yes i love that one!! it smells kinda plastic-y though. I just wish it had a little bit of coverage. I haven't tried the Milani one, is that one better than the wet n wild one?
if you're on a budget i recommend elf's primer. I have hooded eyes and struggle with everything smudging all over the place but elf's primer works really great for me and is so cheap.
I have very oily eyelids and I've tried many eyeshadow bases but only this combo helps so that my eyeshadow lasts all day: NARS Pro Prime + MAC Paint Pot.
Have you tried wet n Wild photofocus I have oily lids this works well for me I set my eyes with powder before primer and after I apply the base and let it dry you should try that too it could help
+CompassionateCaramel yes $5 I believe I found mine at cvs you only need a small amount and make sure to pat it in gently and apply a light layer of powder on top or else it will remain sticky
my favorite ones are too faced shadow insurance, urban decay primer potion and I use smashbox once in awhile , I have super oily lids and the too faced one works all the time for me
Hi Wayne, Could you please do a video on how to prep super oily eyelids for eyeshadow? I've given up wearing it because I spend ages on my eyes for the shadow to disappear within 3 hours! I've tried not using eye cream, wiping my lids with tissue, blotting with blotting paper.. the smashbox, urban decay, mac, nars primers, powdering over them, topping with a base. Everything I can think of. Please help! Xx
i have dry skin and i can get dry eyes.. sucks yeah. I got the urban decay primer potion original i would say it is alright but not great for my skin type. The too faced primer is great tho! Just a tip for anyone looking for a good one that suffers with dry skin x
A lot of these primers are definitely for people who get oily eyelids, I use the one you mentioned even on no makeup days just so I don't have to wipe the grease off my eyelids every other hour.
I have oily eyelids and hooded eyes and if I don't use an eye primer the eyeshadows just gathers in the crease of my eye and hardly any is left on my lids by the end of the day.. I use the Urban decay ageless eyeshadow primer, and follow it with a light shade of eyeshadow to make other colours easy to blend. I sometimes use the Nars eyeshadow primer, and I have used the NYX one but it creases a little after a while. I have also used the Laura Mercier ones in wheat and flax.
Wayne, I just found your channel a week ago and now you are my go to makeup artist on RUclips. You are "bare bones" in your presentation of your topic and besides giving your opinion on products, you have so many tips for all ages, skin types, and skin tones. I also want to thank you for mentioning Avon in one of your foundation videos... I feel that Avon is under-rated because it is not sold at makeup counters... Many of their products are top quality, especially their Anew products (I have never found a comparable product at that price point). Lot's of love and stay amazing
Nobody ever mentions those Bare Minerals BB shadows and I ADORE them! Especially in the summer time, it's freaking genius to add that SPF and the colors are so beautiful! My favorites are Divine Wine and Delicate Moss! Glad to know they're "Wayne Approved" 😉
no one mentions bare minerals in general because they don't do all t he PR packages to RUclipsrs like most of the other brands....it is and will always be a great brand and i love the fact that they have kept their prices on the lower end compared to other higher end brands.
Great video! This is a classic video that gives, great info and puts people on to new products...regardless of their skin tone! Perfection Wayne! Trish Mcevoy is calling my name!
+kristan L Thanks for the comparison. I've been using the UD primer potion for years, and looking to try something new. I'll try the Smashbox one next time :)
i definitely agree with that. I hadn't really thought of trying it since eye primers are eye primers and they last forever....so im never really on the hunt for new ones but the smashbox one came in the sephora favorites i just bought...it is fricken awesome by the way and is still available (laura mercier plum shadow stick worth $29, UD glitter eyeliner in midnight cowboy worth $20, a nars dual instensity shadow worth $29, a milk eye pigment, huda beauty lashes, marc jacobs mascara, black eyeliner sephora brand, and the smashbox primer... CRAZY value all for $45 Holy Crap i didn't know what i was missing...my shadows went on like a dream and im obsessed now.
The best eye primer that I have ever use is the NYX Proof It! Waterproof Eye Shadow Primer-Just bought it recently and is like magic. It is a stick and you use its sponge to apply it and set with your fingers a little bit and then the shadows and liners stay all day until you take it off with eye makeup remover.
I'm a woman of caramel color and I love NARS eye primer. Yes it does dry white powdery on my skin, but it's the only one I've tried that completely keeps my eyelids dry...I have very oily lids (You can fry chicken in the oil...seriously). And it doesn't change the color of the eyeshadow. I love Urban Decay but I want my eye shadow color to stay it's true color when I put it on. Love you So much💋💋💋
I'm really surprised about so many people saying they had trouble with the UD one not working, because I find it fantastic! I used it on my friend's wedding day when I literally had my makeup on for 20 hours wll in and my eyeshadow never budged at all. I've got quite oily eyelids so when I don't prime at all it creases after a few hours but I've had no trouble since getting the primer potion (recommended by a friend - I'd probably never have bothered otherwise because I thought it was gimmicky). Also, I can't use Benfefit Roller Lash mascara without priming because it transfers really badly, but with the primer it's totally fine, which is great cause I love that mascara!
My favorite is the Tarte Clean Slate 360 Eyelid Primer. Tried several you mentioned, but this works the best on my (still oily) eyelids. Blessings...MaryEllen
I'm. a makeup artist for bare minerals. I've been using and working for bare for years. thank you thank you for the shout out about the 5in1 BB. I have used most of the primers you mentioned before but I love my bare minerals !! thanks again.
I usually just use whatever I happen to have a sample of. I was using benefit stay don't stray for a while but it wasn't working for me so now I'm using a mac paintpot because youtube made me buy it so I'm determined to give it a good try. But I'd prefer something in a tube that won't dry out. I have samples of UD and Lorac as well.
I'm glad you mentioned LimeCrime. it's an amazing indie brand that deserves praise. The "contoversy" was waaay too over the top, it wasn't their fault... Their products are amazing and they never fail to deliver quality and innovative cosmetics.
I love the urban decay eye shadow primer minor sin. so awesome. Also I use the Mac select cover concealer as my primer even though its concealer. it holds my eye shadows beautifully for hours on end. but under the eye it doesn't last. However, I will still use it
Hi Wayne. I watched your other video on under eye creasing, and you mentioned to put an eye primer under the eye before the liquid concealer. Which one of these eye primers can you recommend that is best for the under eye? The person with most wrinkles....? If there are others other than what you mentioned in this video, I’m keen to know. Also, even if ya more of a transparent colour. Hope you can help. X
My ultimate favorite eye primer is the Benefit Stay don't Stray. It has a concealer look to it that cancels out veins or any color but it doesn't crease. I can promise you it's also great for dry and oily lids because I've been using it for years where my skin has gone though many phases... Not that this makes a difference to me since like I said I've been using it for like ten years, but I've read this is Kylie Jenner's fave too if that matters to anyone lol. I know some people are big fans so I figured I'd mention it.
Nars makes an amazing eye primer. I spent the entire day out in the heat with rain and by that night, my eye makeup looked just as perfect as that morning.
Living in a desert, humid and 85% is summer for a year, gotta say that Urban Decay Primer Potion works pretty well on my oily skin face for more than 10hrs! x
I saw that bate minerals has a few deeper toned colors such as a source one which I'll put on my wish list for Ulta. I still love the Urban Decay Anti-aging primer, but my skin is very dark. I teach and run late for work a lot, so I like eye bases that can stand alone. Thanks!
My HG primer is the Wet 'n Wild one. Costs next to nothing and performs like Urban Decay Primer Potion - it's a devil to wash off but a good dash of micellar water does a good job at cleaning.
Also for cheaper alternatives Jordana has a great eyeshadow primer as well, very matte and long lasting plus Jesse's Girl has a great eyeshadow primer too lastly Wet N Wild is a third great one. I use Jordana and Jesse's girl more than Urban Decay now just to save money.
I love Elizabeth Mott's primer. I have oily eyelids, and after applying it and then applying a powder base, my eyeshadow won't move fit the entire work day.
My absolutely favorite eyeshadow primer is the Smashbox 24h Photo finish eyeshadow primer. Works way better than UDPP and anything else for me. Sometimes I put some MAC paint pot in "soft ochre" on top but it's not necessary. The smashbox one is perfect and one pot goes a looong way! (I have oily eyelids btw)
I've tried drugstore primers but nothing worked.. then I bought the Urban decay primer potion Original, but it wasn't great, then Wayne Goss mentioned Lime Crime... and I loved it!!!! but it was hard to find so I bought Etude House Proof 10 eye primer and it was awful, now I'm using Nars eye primer but... Lime Crime is still better.
Hi Wayne, if you have mentioned it, could you please do a video on how to use eye primers exactly...? Because I keep trying on new ones, which are told to be good and still they doesn't work for me. So I'm curious if I'm doing it wrong.
The best eye shadow primer I've ever used is the Lorac behind the scenes eye primer, it's so underrated and so good I like it so much better then the urban decay ones
Hey Wayne. Can you do a video showing HOW you use RCMA foundation and the powder for your bridal and also how MUCH is 'enough'. I feel like I'm using too much maybe. Like it won't last me long..... When it should.
I've been using the Fergie Wet n Wild one and sometimes one from Lorac or Mac Paint pot. But this was like the most perfect timing for you to do this because I've been looking for something new.
Hi. Big fan here. Thanks Wondering why u never mention Lancome products? I use their concealer as my eyelid primer. Very opaque and long wearing. Love definicile mascara too.
if you can get ahold of the etude house eye primer, do it!! Its equal or better than the urban decay primer, and its only $7 USD (5-6,000 ₩ in Korea) it is soooo amazing. I bought 2 backups when I moved back from Korea...
The best combination I've tried for oily eye lids is the Urban Decay Primer Potion and the Lime Crime Eyeshadow Primer together. My eyeshadow looked the same from the morning I've put it on until midnight. They've discontinued the Lime Crime primer though :(
i like to use Maybelline age rewind dark spot treatment concealer.. for an eye primer. It didn't work so well for a dark spot treatment so i tried it for an eye primer and it lasts at least 10 hours. Got it at the lowly drug store.. .
The primer potion from urban decay in my opinion is really overrated.. My shadows always creased with it. but seriously, not talking about the Milani eye primer is almost a crime if you're bragging about UD. I love UD and I buy plenty of high end makeup but I will never buy a different eye primer as long as Milani still makes this one.
I agree! It's the worst I ever used, you might as well use any concealer instead of their primer potion. I use too faced shadow insurance and nyx jumbo pencil which are both far more better.
I wasted so much money on high end products, and the oil on my eyelids was always like, "Haha, what primer?" An hour later my shadow would be creased and horrible. I tried Milani out on a resigned whim, and OMG. I'm glad to see it mentioned in the comments here because I was starting to feel like a crazy person. All the beauty blogs/videos talk up the mediocre UD and nary a peep about the miracle stuff that Milani makes.
+Cleromanticon haha same i tried the primer potion and another high end and everything would become oily and crease (and I don't have oily skin). Since starting using the Milani primer, everything stays perfectly in place in amazed. And it's cheaper -_-'
I love your videos! They're so informative and you're so confident in what you say and I just love how you present yourself.💕 Thank you for all of the wonderful videos!
you have to put the eyeshadow while the primer still a little bit kind of fresh before it start to become kind of powdery & dry. That way your eyeshadow sticks better to your eyelid.
Hi Wayne. I used to own the trish McEvoy primer and I hated it. I can't believe it did this but I used it, put MACs Romp eyeshadow on top the eyeshadow became completely dull and lifeless. I chucked it after that. Have that ever happened to you ?
I would also add the Smashbox 24 hr photo finish shadow primer! I love that stuff, my eyeshadow doesn't budge all day! I like it better than the urban decay primer potions.
I remember he's said quite a few times in his older videos that he uses Bare Minerals' loose mineral powder foundation whenever he films. Seems like he still uses it.
Not 1 drug store recommendation? Well, here's one. NYX dark circle corrector. Didn't do a flip for correcting my luggage (worse than bags), but makes a darn good ES primer. Smoothies!
I like your video's but I have a favor to ask....can you address mature skin too? Which primers are good for the little bit of crepey skin? ( maybe keep us in mind on all those good videos you do!).
Set with a little powder after applied. LM has a great secret eye brightening powder & elf has a pretty good under eye setting powder. Both are formulated for the eye area. It helps to lock in the primer on the lids & it helps to make eye shadow blend easier. I've tried the Nars one & it's good but I always go back to my MAC.
+Amy Ernst Have you tried Urban Decay? I get really oily lids but that stuff has my eye makeup looking freshly done the next morning even! Lol! Y'know, those naughty nights where you physically can't manage to take your face off?!
Wayne I love love love your videos. Especially since you demonstrate everything on yourself. You have gorgeous skin!! What do you think about ELF products??
Urban Decay Primer Potion is my HG eye primer. Love the stuff! Can you do face/foundation primers next? I find it so hard to find one that doesn't have a siliconey feel!
Being from Malaysia, I can't get some of these primers and if they are sold here, they're so expensive. I'm using one from Elianto and it works well on a day to day basis, but I love the UD Primer Potion. I got a mini one when I got my Naked palette, so I save it for special occasions
just wanted to say I love all your videos. you cover every aspect of the makeup trends and your own ways of doing things are amazing. I also love you give tips for woc. the fresh flowers are clutch to ;)
I can't wait to try those primers. Have you ever tried the following primers? - bh Studio Pro Foundation Primer ( $20, on sale $ 9) - Costal Scent Step One Eye Primer ( ( $12.95, sale $9.95) - Costal Scent Beginnings Face Primer ( $9.95 ) If yes, what are your thoughts on them? Currently, I have the bh cosmetic primer and I thinks it's a good primer. The thing is, I'm new to using makeup and I've never used any other primer. I'm now planning to try other great, reasonable priced brands ( I don't mind paying for a high end makeup is it's extremely good because I know makeup lasts a long time).
"This is a great option if you want to... Burn money." Lol! That's exactly how I feel about Tom Ford in general.
A really cheap alternative for my oily eyelids is the eyeshadow primer from wet n wild!
I was gonna say this I like the Milani one too but I have minimal creasing on that one
yes i love that one!! it smells kinda plastic-y though. I just wish it had a little bit of coverage. I haven't tried the Milani one, is that one better than the wet n wild one?
i think the milani one really reaches up in that high end quality place.
Oh yes! It performs as well as the UD
i LOVEEE that primer so much
You always remember us women of color. 💞
Thank you for the timely video. I have oily lids and it eats my shadow!
what do u use for oily lids
Right timely. No 10 min intros.
if you're on a budget i recommend elf's primer. I have hooded eyes and struggle with everything smudging all over the place but elf's primer works really great for me and is so cheap.
Thank you for recommendation! I am reeally low on the budget and can't affor all the primers mentioned on the video.
I have very oily eyelids and I've tried many eyeshadow bases but only this combo helps so that my eyeshadow lasts all day: NARS Pro Prime + MAC Paint Pot.
I thought I was the only one that discovered this. lol.
Try smash on or MAC 24hr primer I have oily too. My eyeshadow will last all day with no creasing
Have you tried wet n Wild photofocus I have oily lids this works well for me I set my eyes with powder before primer and after I apply the base and let it dry you should try that too it could help
+eyerus I will try it. Is it a primer?
+CompassionateCaramel yes $5 I believe I found mine at cvs you only need a small amount and make sure to pat it in gently and apply a light layer of powder on top or else it will remain sticky
my favorite ones are too faced shadow insurance, urban decay primer potion and I use smashbox once in awhile , I have super oily lids and the too faced one works all the time for me
Hi Wayne,
Could you please do a video on how to prep super oily eyelids for eyeshadow?
Good to know! I def have dry skin!
A lot of these primers are definitely for people who get oily eyelids, I use the one you mentioned even on no makeup days just so I don't have to wipe the grease off my eyelids every other hour.
I have extremely oily eyelids and the Too Faced Shadow Insurance is HG for me, too :)
Y'all can try The Balm's eye primer, it's super hydrating!
Oh thanks will do! :D
My holy grail product is the NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow base. The one and only product that makes sure that my Eyeshadow doesn't crease ❤️
I love how you just get straight to the point!
Wayne, I just found your channel a week ago and now you are my go to makeup artist on RUclips.
Do they set up or staysort of moveable/creamy?
Great video! This is a classic video that gives, great info and puts people on to new products...regardless of their skin tone! Perfection Wayne! Trish Mcevoy is calling my name!
I have oily eyelids and I usually tap a small amount of Milk of Magnesia on my lid then put E.L.F $2 primer on over it....seems to work fine
the only make up artists who gets to the point of the video directly
You are amazing! I love watching you share techniques. Please, continue to help us feel good about ourselves.
my recent fav has been the Concrete Minerals Electric Eye Primer. don't need much and my eyeshadow has yet to ever crease with it.
Smashbox 24 hour primer is also fantastic! I like it better than the urban decay primer potion
Yes it is.
I agree. Best that I've tried for oily lids and perfect for darker skin tones.
+kristan L Thanks for the comparison. I've been using the UD primer potion for years, and looking to try something new. I'll try the Smashbox one next time :)
This is my favourite! It kept my eye makeup on through a concert where I was GA, it's amaaaaazing
i definitely agree with that. CRAZY value all for $45
Holy Crap i didn't know what i was missing...my shadows went on like a dream and im obsessed now.
"This is a great option, if you want to burn money." 😂😂
The best eye primer that I have ever use is the NYX Proof It! Waterproof Eye Shadow Primer-Just bought it recently and is like magic. It is a stick and you use its sponge to apply it and set with your fingers a little bit and then the shadows and liners stay all day until you take it off with eye makeup remover.
I'm a woman of caramel color and I love NARS eye primer. Yes it does dry white powdery on my skin, but it's the only one I've tried that completely keeps my eyelids dry...I have very oily lids (You can fry chicken in the oil...seriously). "...if you want to burn money." 😂
My favorite is the Tarte Clean Slate 360 Eyelid Primer. Tried several you mentioned, but this works the best on my (still oily) eyelids. Blessings...MaryEllen
Have you ever tried NARS Pro Prime and Wet n Wild ?
Yes, I've tried the W n W, and it is my 2nd favorite.
Okay. Thanks for your feedback
I'm. a makeup artist for bare minerals. I've been using and working for bare for years. thank you thank you for the shout out about the 5in1 BB. I have used most of the primers you mentioned before but I love my bare minerals !! thanks again.
What about the Mac paint pots? What do you think of those as primers?
What is your opinion on Juvia's Place eyeshadows?
i actually just got the nyx eye shadow base in skintone and I love it!!
I usually just use whatever I happen to have a sample of. But I'd prefer something in a tube that won't dry out. I have samples of UD and Lorac as well.
My holy grail is Thank Me Later by Elizabeth Mott. My eyeshadow doesn't fade and stays on forever.
I like Mac paint pots simple and my shadow lasts pretty much all day.
I'm glad you mentioned LimeCrime. it's an amazing indie brand that deserves praise. The "contoversy" was waaay too over the top, it wasn't their fault... Their products are amazing and they never fail to deliver quality and innovative cosmetics.
Love the bareMinerals ones. I love everything (well, nearly everything) they do!
Those roses in the background are incredible!!
I love the UD eyeshadow P primer potions!! Currently I'm using the NYX eyeshadow base in 03 and I like it a lot too but the UD ones are my holy Grail!
I love the urban decay eye shadow primer minor sin. so awesome. Also I use the Mac select cover concealer as my primer even though its concealer. it holds my eye shadows beautifully for hours on end. but under the eye it doesn't last. However, I will still use it
I actually like the elf brand eyelid primer in white.
essence I heart stage eye primer is my holy grail (inexpensive)
Didn't they discontinue them? I can't find them anymore...
Me too! works well for me
luuvnich i dont think so?
www.ulta.com/i-love-stage-eyeshadow-base?productId=xlsImpprod4710077&sku=2243160
+luuvnich I don't think so, I just bought the essence i heart stage primer recently at target
OMG Wayne .. every time I watch you I have to whip out my makeup and play, lol.
Hi Wayne,
I have a question, before putting on makeup, what skincare products should we layer on our complexion. HELP!!!!
Love Trish McEvoy's!! Always go back to it.
You're the best Wayne Goss! Thank you for all of your helpful videos!!
My ultimate favorite eye primer is the Benefit Stay don't Stray. It has a concealer look to it that cancels out veins or any color but it doesn't crease. I can promise you it's also great for dry and oily lids because I've been using it for years where my skin has gone though many phases...

Love the video but please do drugstore eye primers. Please & Thank you 😊
wats ur take on mac paint pot
I have the oily-est eyelids ever!!! I've tried many primers and the only one that does ok for me is the one by NARS
I find UD Eye Primer Potions work well but I also love the Smashbox 24 hr eye primer. They're my go to products.
Benefit's Stay don't Stray. works excellent on my oily lids!

Have been using the Bare Minerals BB eye creams for years, really good
I've been using the Fergie Wet n Wild one and sometimes one from Lorac or Mac Paint pot. But this was like the most perfect timing for you to do this because I've been looking for something new.
I appreciate how you show products for deeper skin tones. 💋
Hi. Big fan here. Thanks
Wondering why u never mention Lancome products? I use their concealer as my eyelid primer. Very opaque and long wearing. Love definicile mascara too.
Always look forward to your videos Wayne! UD anti-aging primer potion is my go-to. Love from across the pond! 💋
I love your videos because they're extremely informative and get straight to the point!

I agree! It's the worst I ever used, you might as well use any concealer instead of their primer potion. I use too faced shadow insurance and nyx jumbo pencil which are both far more better.
Yes I have it and after awhile the UD start to kinda clump and looked terrible on the eyes. In general it isn't worth the money
And it's cheaper -_-'
love that your videos are quick and to the point!!
Urban decay is my holy grail for eye primers. Glad to see we are on the same page!
Milani's one is amazing! Works on really oily eyelids ✨
The Lime Crime one was discontinued a few years back with their new one. I miss their original pot prime, it was magical how good it worked.
What would you suggest for oily lids? Not to fussed on colour but more staying power :)
I have not tried some of those, but will in the near future 😊
I have really oily eyelids. I'm going to try the bareminerals and see if it works for me.
Mine are too and the BM primer did not work for me - NARS does ok but I'm going to try MAC next
I LOVE that Trish primer!
I love your videos! They're so informative and you're so confident in what you say and I just love how you present yourself.💕 Thank you for all of the wonderful videos!
wait youre NOT supposed to put eyeshadow on right after primer? have i been doing it wrong all along? 😨
you have to put the eyeshadow while the primer still a little bit kind of fresh before it start to become kind of powdery & dry. That way your eyeshadow sticks better to your eyelid.
Carine Yezn yeah i have been doing that but he said you have to put powder or something on it after the primer and then eyeshadow?
+Hellen Lam you want to set the primer in place with a light shade. it makes it easier to blend your other shadows

The only eye primers that get me 12hrs of no creasing are MAC 24 hrs and smash box. I still get creasing with urban decay and paint pots.
Your skin looks amazing....flawless to me! what foundation do you have on? love you and your videos Wayne! x
I remember he's said quite a few times in his older videos that he uses Bare Minerals' loose mineral powder foundation whenever he films. Seems like he still uses it.
Great! thank you! :)
Not 1 drug store recommendation? Well, here's one. NYX dark circle corrector. Didn't do a flip for correcting my luggage (worse than bags), but makes a darn good ES primer. Smoothies!
I like nyx eyeshadow base i have dry eyelids tho😂
I want to try it!
I like your video's but I have a favor to ask....can you address mature skin too? Which primers are good for the little bit of crepey skin? ( maybe keep us in mind on all those good videos you do!).
Try the Bare Minerals ones. I love them and now got my 60 year old mom hooked too.
I swear by the MAC P+P 24 hr. And oh boy it is, nothing will flipping move.
Will have to try it for I've tried so many primers for my damn oily lids and only the NARS one does ok
I've read a lot of people like urban decay are they blendable for the eyeshadow on top and do you have a particular colour you like from UD ?
I actually love the nars one. It's great!
Wayne I love love love your videos. Especially since you demonstrate everything on yourself. You have gorgeous skin!! What do you think about ELF products??
Thanks for posting 😊 could you please do a video on the proper technique for color correcting?
You're awesome XO
Urban Decay Primer Potion is my HG eye primer. Love the stuff! Can you do face/foundation primers next? I find it so hard to find one that doesn't have a siliconey feel!
i'm using the makeup forever primer, pretty good one!
- bh Studio Pro Foundation Primer ( $20, on sale $ 9)
- Costal Scent Step One Eye Primer ( ( $12.95, sale $9.95)
- Costal Scent Beginnings Face Primer ( $9.95 )
If yes, what are your thoughts on them? Currently, I have the bh cosmetic primer and I thinks it's a good primer. The thing is, I'm new to using makeup and I've never used any other primer. I'm now planning to try other great, reasonable priced brands ( I don't mind paying for a high end makeup is it's extremely good because I know makeup lasts a long time).
