Most impressive thing for me was the fact you actually managed to find some dry tarmac while filming...
ALMIGHTY. -: GOD -: KABIR❤😊
No....Optical illusion !🙂
There’s always been so many obstacles on the roads that we have to keep an eye out for, but it’s incredible that we can actually get a good ride these days with so many troughs and potholes greasy muddy flooded, drain covers, lines, fuel, gravel, uneven repairs to work a path through…. That’s why I often drift in interest towards adventure bikes, when I’d really really like something like this
I own my old lady, the Classic 500 stealth black and soon I´m going to buy this very one. A perfect match!
How’s the tappet noise in your 500??
I was in a Royal Enfield dealers and saw one up close, and its as nice to look look at as you say it is to ride!
The design is well balanced and looks complete. It shows, that these bikes are designed and ridden by enthusiasts!
It takes me a good 500 - 1,000 miles to get really comfortable with a new bike. Yes, you can set it up and ride it immediately but, to really get to grips with it takes much longer.
Interesting comments re the rear brake. I have the same problem of the the rear ABS kicking in when coming to a stop at the bottom of a rather steep hill near where I used to live. It is, as you say, due to the weight transfer and, being on a steep hill, that transfer is more pronounced.
Like you, I was taught to see the rear brake like a tool, probably a type of multi-tool. *_If used correctly, skillfully and well_* it does an excellent job. The same can also be said for all the other controls. _Why are people only taught how to pass the driving test and not how to ride and drive correctly?_
Although mentioned before (and I will mention it again in the future as it is of the utmost importance to me), I was taught to ride by a Police Motorcycle Traffic Officer a couple of evenings a week. Me being exceptionally green at the time and having not learnt any bad habits he was able to instill in me the correct way of doing things - using the controls, observation, road position etc. ad infinitum. Over the past 40 years, his "teachings" have proven to be invaluable time and time again.
_"Riding naked into the wind?"_ That brought some "unexpected" images to mind 🤣🤣
"The powers that be" seem to want to take away what few pleasures we have left in life, usually under the false guise of safety. Methinks it's time to invest in cotton wool companies as we will probably need to live our lives wrapped in it...
A thorough and honest review, thanks Stuart.
Centre stands are generally just a matter of technique. Back in the early '80s when Triumph twins were made in Meriden, I rode a Bonneville 750 and my wife rode a Tiger 750. She never had a problem either getting the bike on it's centre stand or kick-starting the bike. Technique, pure and simple.
Plus bonnies are just brilliant! 😁 great all round bikes (although some vibration is apparent at higher speeds).
Hello Stuart, I wanted to thank you from South America, Peru. I have been watching and following your videos for a couple years now and you played an important part on my choice of motorcycle... I ended up buying a 2023 Interceptor and I couldn't be more happy! thank you for your honest reviews and for all the info and opinions that you put on this channel!!!
Glad you trusted Royal Enfield
I love my 2019 Interceptor but would consider chopping it in for this bike if I could afford it. I really like the design and the review confirms my impression of a solidly built, competent and very well designed machine. Thanks for your considered opinion. Extremely useful.
Thank goodness, I’m not over keen on the current paint schemes, otherwise there could also be a change being planned. So for the foreseeable future, my trusty Interceptor is staying put, which I’m not disappointed about.
Why would you want the same specs but 25 kilograms heavier? Not to mention a huge downgrade in the looks department.
You, me, and everyone else waiting on a Classic 650. The one caveat is the Shotgun sounds like it handles better than other Royal Enfield's, which I find quite slow. If a big Classic kept with the same stately rake and trail as older bikes, I could be tempted by the Shotgun.
This is the review standard by which all channels should be judged! way too many Tubers who have only recently passed their tests then giving out expert reviews!
Even the MCN interceptor review was done by someone who'd only just learned to ride. There's far to many pointless reviews, uncle Stu is a rarity.
Yes, Interesting points on the use of rear brakes for most of the braking, I used to think i was a pretty good rider, until i did my advanced training with Lothian & Borders Police, the diference between what i was and what i morphed into was stunning. In fact i rode and still own a Classic CB900FD which is no match for the likes of VFR1000's and CBR600's, all of a sudden my friends were like ''how the f@@k can you go round corners like that with that thing?, what have you done with Hendo?'' and the thing is i wasnt, or at least didnt feel like i was pushing hard, I was simply enjoying the ride with loads of reserve in hand. and speaking of rear braking, I purchased a fully loaded Versys 650GT in 2022, Brand new custom order, its done 1500 miles [low mileage, due to ill health for a while] and the front disks dont look like they havent been used much while the rear disk is well used, lol. I can honestly say doing the IAM with Lothian was the best thing i ever did MC related, I also found a new respect for Police MC riders too. 😀😀😀😀 The Shotgun is a cracking bike btw.
I have an Interceptor 650 and from the first ride it felt like an old familiar pair of broken-in slippers.
I simply LOVE their products. I have no doubt the Shotgun if bored out to 850 would be an amazing "pocket power cruised"
Amen brother, you nailed it about the youtube reviews. Seems every video on motorcycles is just a review; hardly any rides with just engine sound and no dialog. As a long time rider with more experience than most of the vloggers, I find they have no real insight...they are just parroting what all the other videos discuss. I think they watch their peer videos and create the same content. For example, I have not ridden my motorcycle for a couple of years due to a long running project with long hours, and I just started watching videos again. Everyone is talking about needing cruise control. There is no way statistically that every review draws that particular conclusion on its own. Your review is refreshing...independent thinking!
the other issue with main stands is really obvious - but some people seem to ignore the need for a level surface
Thank you, Stuart, for a well-informed and honest review of the Shotgun. I love the RE brand and currently ride a Meteor 350, which I use mainly for exploring the back roads of New Zealand but find it lacking in power when on the highways. I think the Shotgun 650cc would suit me perfectly and can't wait to test ride one.
Love your reviews, no filler or fluff and from a man who has spent years on two wheels (like many of us). Like a lot things we are interested in from bikes to action cams to photography there are way too many copy n paste review videos out there. Us older riders like a bit of meat n gravy, no nonsense info. Cheers mate.
Honest and practical review Stu. Thank you.
Good Morning Stu , Thank you once again for a belting review of the Shotgun 650 , take care & ride safe
Once again Royal Enfield have bought out a fabulous looking bike, thanks for a great review.
Great review, thank you. I sat on this in showroom today and the fit was very comfortable for 6’5”, really gorgeous looking bike esp in the white.
A masterly review. Thank you, Stu.
Wow. What a beautiful day for riding the Shotgun! Thanks for your sweet work in making this series on the Shotgun. You even teach us how to use a center stand correctly. Still waiting in the U.S. for them ship out of Texas.
Fantastic review. I especially appreciate the commentary on the rear vs. front brake. I grew up riding off road (enduros not motocross) and one quickly learns to stay away from the front brake as it will quickly wash out on you and spill your bike (long before ABS). As an owner of a new Bullet 350, I'm getting use to this weak back brake thing and thought it must be me - glad to hear your insight and explanation. BTW, I was in a motorcycle accident on asphalt in the 1980s, going around 80km/h when someone essentially did a u-turn in front of me. Enduro reflexes had me lock up my rear brake and bring the bike into a full slide. Impact was inevitable. I know there was alot of luck that day, but I walked away, yes, literally walked away. In my heart, I believe it was my rear brake that saved me.
Talking about weak rear brakes, I believe you can buy different compounds in pads now, softer for better friction and feel, the caveat is that the lifespan is shorter, but worth it.
Thanks Stuart for a very informative review. This one I will consider next time I change bike.
Morning uncle Stu. Firstly, hopefully I don’t come under the banner of a poor “first impressions reviewer”, but some of us don’t have enough clout with manufacturer’s marketing departments to be given a bike for a few weeks (yes I have asked RE, but to no avail), so we have to make do with giving an over all first impression based on an hour or so test ride from a dealer. I do try to point this out, and suggest that prospective buyers take one out themselves ! Oh and no danger of reviewing prior to riding, as I am talking whilst riding, so the viewer kind of gets to ride with me on this first ride. My channel is mainly scenic rides on my Classic 350, but if I get the chance to take a new bike out for review, I take it. This wasn’t meant to be a plug by the way, rather trying to explain why we do what we do. This said, as I mentioned in the comments on your first video, we have come to very similar conclusions regarding the Shotgun. That rear brake is awesome, the handling through the bends is sublime, the seat is comfortable, the rear suspension is nice and compliant, the front doesn’t suffer “white lining”, unlike some bikes. I still think the handlebars could do with being a tad higher (for me) though. Oh, and I agree, the Shotgun is the best bike RE have produced to date, and I too am looking forward to the Classic 650. Great review series as usual, thanks for putting them together.
Well said. I think (much as I love most of his videos) Stu is prone to the occasional sweeping disparaging generalisation about other motorcycle RUclipsrs and their approaches to reviews, etc. I watch a lot and find that most (like you) frame their thoughts carefully based on their time with the bike in question and don’t pretend to be offering definitive reviews - beyond their own impressions.
Brilliant review, thank you. I was thinking about getting back into biking after a 20 year break and initially considering a classic 350.
Thank you, Stuart; another informative and considered video. In the 64 years that I've been riding, I've always used the rear brake, but in conjunction with the front. Indeed, back in the days of drum brakes, it was the only way to get the bike stopped! These days, I use the rear to steady and slow the bike, particularly into low speed urban corners. On my Guzzi Breva 750 this technique works very well.
Re centre stands, the only bike that I've struggled (unsuccessfully) with was the Honda CTX700; everything else over the years has been easy.
That is hands down, best edited and professionally done review i have seen on a bike. So good, i would buy one! But i dont want it! But my uncle tells me its great. I must get one! 😂 wonderful review, have a great easter weekend as i hope family is well!
Thanks for that excellent review Stuart. Another very good looking and well designed bike from RE. I can identify and agree with your comments on motorcycle braking. When I learned to ride, about 45 years ago, I was instructed to use both brakes as a matter of normal stopping procedure , which I have always done and continue to do today. The bike has 2 brakes, so use them. I find it gives much smoother and effective stopping with much less front suspension dive. I ride mostly vintage bike with no doubt less sophisticated geometry than modern machines, but I still think using both brakes is good practice. Cheers, Dan. ✌️🏍🇨🇦
Fantastic review Uncle Stu as always. 👊😎👍
Great video - looking forward to seeing the RE 650 classic in the near future.
I think this is my favorite royal enfield yet. The looks and the performance is amazing. Thanks for the review.
outstanding review from someone who actually knows what he's talking about. Keep up the reviews , most of the technical information would have gone over the new generations' heads.
Think a CEO passionate about his product, riding them. this is paying off in new bike development. Well done.
great review great sound track.fantastic.
Thx for the very fine review.I own a GT since 21.Still am in love with it and use it for everything.I have a neck injury and should not be able to drive a sporty bike. But the GT is no problem. This bike will stay home and will get a sister. The 650 Classic will come, but in fact the shotgun reminds me very much the bikes of the 1930’s - 1950’s. It will be between those 2 bikes I’ll choose.
I am glad that you tested the Shotgun thoroughly. Your word means a lot. 😊Thank you.
Thank you for the review, update and more pondering on which biker will actually spend my money on later in the year….. so many good options…. I always wanted to get another 650, the last being an A65 thunderbolt, which was very unique with all the updates and modifications I had made to that engine, making it a bombproof powerhouse, was so sad to let it go in the 90s
Excellent and objective review, thank you.
Hi Stuart, nice review, well detailed as always. I saw a shotgun in a dealer's schowroom nearby in France, indeed it is very nice bike, very well finished, with some classy components. For me this is RE's take on a modern style custom bike that may also appeal to younger riders. Concerning test riding a motorcycle, this becomes more and more difficult in general as often dealers do not anymore get demo-bikes from the factory, but have to pay directly their stock bikes, and small dealerships (which the most RE dealers are in my region) do not always have the financial resources to have a big stock of motorcycles. That is also a reason why serious reviews, like yours , among others, are very helpful for potentiel buyers. That said, i am also a fan of classic motorcycles, and so i bought, two weeks ago, an Interceptor 650 Mark 2, brand new stock bike but model year 2022, so i got the entire lightning edition kit for free. And yes the finish is not as good as on the new bikes, without being bad at all, but for me it contributes to the rough early 70's style bikes i admired when i was a young man😀. After all the heart of the machine remains the same, other parts can be upgraded easily........
Brilliant video as always Stuart and a fantastic review of a superb Royal Enfield 650 😃👍🏻
Thanks for the info Stuart.
Sir Stuart, thank you so so much for this great video, as always amazing details and honest feedback. Your advice on how to get the bike on the middle stand is priceless 🙏🏻 I was struggling to get my bike on this for a very long time! Thank you Sir ❤
I have a Stencil White Shotgun 650 on order, and I couldn't be more pleased to hear such a positive review from you. My only quandary is that I still have to wait for my bike to arrive at the dealership ;-)
Nice… can I ask how long the delivery is?
@@moog247 When I put down my $200 retainer they said 'in a couple months' which would mean around late May, but I don't expect to see it until sometime in June ;-)
Another good report Stu. Re centre stand. If one has ever had a bike with centre stand only and I've had a few of them , MZ , Ducati and Aprilia possibly more , ctr stand technique is rapidly learned and applied to all . The main thing to consider is to make sure both legs of the stand are firmly planted and the bike is as perpendicular as possible before your leavering action is applied.
Thanks Stuart good informative video as always
Hi Stuart thanks for a fabulous review one of your best 👌
Good review Stu, will check one out when I get a chance. Like the music at the start. 😊
Extremely well put together review loved my Hunter 350 the shotgun for me looks like the next step up 👍
Once again, absolutely brilliant video, and I must be totally honest with you, I support you 100% in your findings in this review, plus I'm also waiting the Classic 650, yes I'm also an old person of questionable parentage😂, 70 now but busing around like a 35 year old.😅
As always Stuart, very interesting and informative and very easy watch. I wonder with the amount of bikes Royal Enfield are releasing these days how long we should wait before taking the plunge.
Bareing in mind what's coming out way with environmental issues.
Keep up the good work Stuart.
This review was very revealing and entertaining. It is a very handsome motorcycle. It looks like it's built like a tank... While watching the video, your narrative found me reaching for the handlebars and getting comfortable in the saddle. For me this is quality, value and then some...Royal Enfield has shown their concern by fitting the bike with a proper size oil cooler to protect the engine and give it long lasting longevity. A very conscientious company, building brand loyalty. Thanks for the ride. I like this bike and would have no problem purchasing it.
Your demonstration of how to use the center stand was brilliant! Your shrug at the end made me laugh out loud. Wheel done, sir.
Stu, a good review with you able to say the rider is part of the bike, and admit that changes in how the rider rides improves the bike. You are honest to say that you could change and make the bike better.
This is the real quality review love it
That looks a beautiful bike on screen just have to see it in the flesh now it’s a toss up between the meteor and shotgun sometime this year I think great video and as your saying it takes longer than a test ride from dealer to really decide it’s right for you great video I’m honestly thinking about one of these 2 I mentioned by the end of 24 bye for now ride safe
A good informative review thanks.👍
Thank you Stuart, that's one of the best, if not THE best review I've seen on these bikes! Difficult to rationalize getting one though, since Her Ladyship won't tour longer distances. We trailer our bikes to a destination, then do day rides around. I truly don't like the foot position on the Super Meteor, but that Meteor 350 might be something to look at. My position on my Himalayan isn't optimal, which is why I'm exploring other options.
This looks good in the gray, but like you, I think I’m waiting for the Classic 650.
Effective rear wheel braking......! as you mentioned that was a thing of the past, I think I will be trying one of these asap. Good review Stuart!
When new, my Guzzi V7 clutch was almost all of the way out and felt "loose." I made a big adjustment on the top and bottom near the engine and now it is perfect! I like a tighter feel for control about 25% of the way out as you mention. Much better feeling bike now. 13:34
Great info as normal, thanks
Pay extra for hills where you live, great summing up Stuart. Credit indeed if you'd consider buying one., thanks and have a great bh weekend 😄 x
Interesting vid and a bit of a fresh perspective on vehicle perceptions! Ps where on earth did you find all those dry roads I’m currently underwater 🐳
Good afternoon Stu. Another good video. I didn’t comment on the previous video as I wanted to see what you thought of the bike after getting used to it. I must admit from your experience, it looks to be a very nice bike. R E are certainly trying to to provide what riders want rather than producing bikes that everyone else makes. I much prefer polished engine cases and a bit of bling, so a classic 650 would probably suit me too.
Another great video and demonstration of how to put a motorcycle onto its centre stand. I’m pleased that you mentioned ruts in roads being an issue and not just pot holes, as this issue is pretty bad across most of rural and coastal Lincolnshire. Gone are the days of proper road repairs. I don’t believe the safety aspect of these ruts/road defects for motorcyclists are mentioned enough. Perhaps the state of our roads is one reason speed limits are being lowered. Anyhow, your review of the Shotgun is excellent, thanks.
Took one out today for a test run here in Chester at our local dealership……I really liked it.
Great review......thanks!
Shotgun: good name for a bike. Fitting intro music. You almost expect Clint to show up. I like the footpeg position on this bike. Good-looking bike, as well. Nick
I wish all reviews were done this way! Theres a certain channel whose main reviewer only actually passed his test last year and reviews the bikes as though hes been riding 30 years, comes out with some real twaddle!
That's a proper review 👏
Good review and some well made points. One thing I wonder tho is if the pillion seat is comfortable? Happy Easter to you and have a good weekend.
Sir, thank you for this magneficient review. ⚓️
Great vidio.lots of common sense. Look forward to your future videos
Thorough review Stuart, thank you. Is it possible to fit the Shotgun rear brake system to my Interceptor?
Great video yet again. Made me laugh at the start as I went out and bought a guzzi v7 stone without test riding ha. I’m tempted to get a hunter and now I’ve watched this, the shot gun looks amazing. 👍🏼
Ha ha. You sound exactly the same as me. Many cars and motorbikes and never test ride or drive anything lol. Just buy them 😂
Hear-hear to the use of the rear brake. I also used it heavily for manoeuvring at low speed. I am buying a Shotgun tomorrow.😊
Stu, thanks for the thoughtful review; thanks to your review, you have me wanting to get one of these when they hit my local dealer here in the US. The problem is that all of Royal Enfield's bikes are cool; they're also good machines. Hence, I want one of EVERY model they make; I would SO LOVE to have one of every RE bike! Unfortunately, I have neither the space or the funds for that. I would like to get another RE machine, but I have the same problem as you: which one do I get? You're waiting for the Classic 650, while I"m torn between the Interceptor, The Hunter 350, the Classic 350, the Super Meteor, and the Shotgun 650. They're all great looking bikes! They're all good machines too. Which one do I get? I feel you, Stu!
As for your first impression reviews, they're good. I used your first impression review of the Meteor 350 as research for buying mine. The only thing I found off was your remarks the gearbox; the fifth gear is more of an overdrive gear vs. for marketing purposes. That is to say that the fifth gear is necessary on the Meteor 350, and that it's good to have. Other than that, you sussed out the bike quite well, as your observations about the Meteor 350 pretty much confirm mine, and I've lived with the bike for over 2.5 years now and have over 3,300 miles on it; that is to say that I've gotten to know my Meteor 350 well, and your first impression review of the bike was spot-on, save for the gearbox. IOW, I expect that a Shotgun 650 owner would observe the same if he based his buying decision off your first impression review.
Now, concerning windscreens, if I get the Shotgun 650 (something I'm SORELY TEMPTED to do!), I'd put a fly screen on it. The fly screen would keep bugs off the instrument cluster. Plus, fly screens look cool! I have one on my Meteor 350, and I like it for both of those reasons. The black fly screen, along with the Fireball Yellow and blacked out paint scheme, really add something to my bike's aesthetics; it really looks cool! I like having it on my bike. I think that a fly screen would look good on the Shotgun 650 as well.
Great review 👌
I love my interceptor, so I think I’ll be still waiting to the classic 650 🤷♂️
Top review 👌 Love the all black. I'll stick with the SM650. Totally agree with the rear break comment proper old school. Also have to agree with you on the screen. My last bike with a fairing was an R80RT but I wouldn't put one on the SM. I've done 9k on mine and a few 2hr motorway trips and any conditions it ticks the boxes. Keep up the good work
Thanks Stu, looks like a cracking bike. The only thing I don't like (also with the Meteor/Super Meteor) is the asymetric dials. If only there was an option to fit a matching tacho to the right, and move the tracker between and ahead of the two dials...
Looking at the Shotgun
Thx Stuart, great review but I’ll try to hold out for a classic 650 too, hoping that RE quality will just escalate 🙏
Thanks, I bought one,
N I am enjoying it.
Cheers Stuart I've been looking at the Super Meteor and now the Shotgun and cannot make my mind up which one .I need to try them out first but still waiting for the main dealer to open in our area after listening to your first review was heading for the meteor now I'm back to undecided .I think it maybe better to head down country and test ride them both before forking the cash out 🤣
Thanks for the review! I'm thinking about replacing my Meteor 350 with either Interceptor or Shotgun, still not decided but I've reserved demo ride on both and hopefully shall see the difference. Quite a good point you had on making any valid conclusions after riding a bike for several days not minutes.
Thankyou uncle Stu,(even though im much older than you) love your video`s mate, what would we do without you?
I used to put RE 350 electra on its main stand without getting off the bike,so yes, technique plays a big role.
Good educated review.👍
I’ve had a 40 year gap between owning bikes, when I looked to buy my new one last year i was nervous about which bike to get, I watched all of the bike reviews for the one I liked I could find,
but it was the one where the RUclipsr had the bike for several weeks on loan that convince me this was the one I wanted.
I'm happy to see RE using the killswitch design from the classic reborn. The dial makes it so much harder to accidentally cut the engine
tried today the hntr 350 interceptor 650 and the shotgun. to keep it short: the hntr 350 was a little nice machine with lots of power for its cc but the exit from the turns came with some pulls that really made me frown, the interceptor 650 was like sailing on a cloud with its seating really comfortable and a good manouvrability, the shotgun was the best of the 3 when it went to manouvrability BUT i was feeling every single rock that was on the road a feeling i didn't have with the other 2 bikes. to keep it short i probably will buy the Interceptor. cheers
I have an Interceptor of probably similar weight to the Shot gun and am able able to put it on its center stand in bare feet using exactly the method you demonstrated , if a little guy like me can manage that surely others can manage it wearing riding boots. ( and , No , I don’t ride in bare feet ! This came about when I was cleaning the bike in my garage on a particularly hot day and needed to move it around .)
RE confusing buyers with rapidly launching a one scale up vehicle every year or two. Just exited as you, I'm also waiting for new Avatar of the legendary classic. Many thought that classic era was over but siddhartha lal had other idea's in mind. I think he knows what people want 😅. Btw loved the dedication and hardwork you put in reviewing these machines and telling us the things otherwise we wouldn't have known and i think others should take a note❤❤
I cannot but think that this bike will be issued in other colors and some chrome pipes in the future. I am not into blacked out motorcycles, And don't want to customize a motorcycle. I do think Enfield needs to address the metal engine casing rather than leave the bare metal for constant polishing, clear coat maybe, but black paint is not my choice. Very complete review, listened to it twice while cooking. Some of your best work.
A quality review as usual Stuart. As you say initial impressions can be somewhat misleading as you adapt to a new machine. It seems Royal Enfield has got the development of this motorcycle just right. Perhaps this is because the roads now in Britain are similar to India in terms of quality and maintenance.
Morning Stewart. I've watched all of these vids, and I was interested to see where you went on this? Well I think you about covered everything. Nicely presented sir 👍. Regarding my RE650SM I'd say this. Two up 60 to 70mph the rear break could be better. Especially when I'm forced to break really hard coz some dweeb almost overshoots his or her turn off on a motorway! Solo riding the rear break is adequate... Safe cruising till next time sir 👍😊...
Nice one Stuart.....
Excellent review. I have the SM 650. Excellent bike. I’d like to compare the forward controls to the more medium controls but the dealership I bought the bike from doesn’t allow test rides. Thank you for the demonstration using the center stand. It’s awkward for me. I’ve managed to do it twice. Me approaching my mid 70s might have something to do with it. …When you gas up do you use the center stand? Be safe…Beautiful scenery where you live…Peace..
Hi, nice review. One thing which isn't easy to find from tech specs, what is the real world fuel consumption ? For example, your riding seems typical mixture of roads and speeds - do you know what your fuel consumption was ?
One of the most important features of the shotgun for me is it's low seat height which makes it easy to get on for me and especially for my wife.
You enjoyed that !! Is it black ? Didn't think they did a all black one. Looks brilliant
I am back in the market for a road oriented bike (I've had a Bonnie and Int 650 in the past) and I gotta say, this looks like a very nice option. Get some leather saddle bag on there, take off for a 3-4 day road trip.
