U remind me of my grandfather, he rode a bullet 350, a very old bullet, he bought it in 1960s somehow it was still working in 2005 when he sold it, he was born in 1919 and passed away in 2015, he was the coolest and the most gentle man I knew, I got the love of bikes from him, also mechanical watches, and fountain pens. He valued craftsmanship, I do too

The Shotgun looks to me like a 1980's Kawasaki. Something a "biker" would have ridden back in the day. Black leather jacket, waterproof over trousers, strap a tent on the back and head off to a rally or whatever. I love it.

I have a Shotgun, and while a tach would be nice, it's not really needed. The shotgun isn't quite a "push it to the edge" sporty bike because of the extra weight over the Interceptor. I do think they could have integrated the Tripper into a larger clock with a tach though, and that definitely would have been more ideal. I suspect they were going for some artistic asymmetry.

Been riding the interceptor 650 for 5 years now , test rode the Shotgun 650 and it feels completely different especially the engine which feels far more refined more like a Classic 350 in character but with a bigger engine ,I'm sure they have tuned it differently for more low down torque to feel like a Classic, which I'm sure Shotgun 650 is a Classic 650 in making with same frame and underpinning.

Great video as usual 👌🏼 I bought an interceptor after watching your videos 4/5 years ago , I sold it recently as I’ve falling in love again with Royal Enfield, but this was a shock to me with what I’ve chosen , so I test rode the shotgun 650 and the meteor 650 and although lovely motorcycles, the meteor 350 has stolen my heart , I’m sure it has the same vibrations as the universe, you just get lost in your surroundings with your feet slightly forward which is fantastic, the catch here though is I’ve gone with the new Aurora Green , which has some nice upgrades , nice little kick out on the front mudguard , alloy switch gear , tripper , windscreen, touring seats and chrome everywhere !, picking this vintage colour machine up this Saturday 😎 keep up the good work , your videos help a lot of people and I am subscribed 🏍️🏍️🏍️👊🏼🤘🏼

Mark, I know where you're coming from. I'm a pensioner that had an Interceptor, then had a mild attack of common-sense and changed (with some trepidation) to a 350 Meteor. The change was to take away an incentive (due to lack of right-wrist self-control) to do potentially risky car overtakes (speed) in my country lane riding (what if a car driver pulled out without doing a mirror check as I was passing. My old bones wouldn't respond well to being dumped in a roadside ditch !
My Meteor was a revelation. The most comfortable motorcycle I've ever ridden and there was an undefinable 'something' about the 'bikes's character that calmed the spirit. The Meteor handled country lane riding beautifully. It cornered much better than it had a right to. Mark, you may have picked up my change of 'tense'. I regretably had to part company with my Meteor, as my (relatively) local Enfield dealership ceased trading. I tried using the services of the next nearest Enfield dealership, but to put it bluntly, after using them once I wouldn't trust them to butter my toast let alone adjust tappets etc ! (and it was a fairly long motorway type journey away. I want to be riding at least as fast as the traffic around me , which, whilst the Meteor will cope with it's near max. speed for ever and a day, that electronically limited top speed isn't at the same rate as surrounding traffic). For reasons I won't bore you with, it's impractical for me to travel long distances for a dealership to carry out services etc. so I've had to change 'mark'. to a machine with a local outlet (Triumph Bonneville). The Bonnie is a nice 'bike and gives me my two-wheel shot-in-the-arm, but riding it doesn't take me to the same place the Meteor did and isn't as comfortable ! Oh how I wish a R/E dealership would open up within a 20 mile radius of my home. From Stuart's analysis, of the Shotgun, could potentially be a close approximation to a 350 Meteor 🥴.

Hi Stu, I too have had my Interceptor since 2019, and the biggest changes I have made that have changed the character of the bike are the DNA Air Filter and the Enfield Precision exhaust cans. It is now more responsive , sounds much better, and has better fuel economy. Also my tyres are now replaced with Metzlers as the originals are worn out!! Yes, I rode BSA Lightnings and Norton Commandos in the 70's and a Yamaha TX500, twin cam DOHC 4 valve head bike - same HP as the RE Interceptor - but of the three - I much prefer my RE Interceptor. Now I also own an R1200RT, which has upgraded suspension on after 75,000kms, but I still prefer the Interceptor for cornering in the rough, NZ rural roads without any suspension upgrades. I still prefer it now!!

A beautiful looking bike, too. The Super meteor 650 is another nice looking machine and are very comfortable to sit on. The rear shocks are apparently a bit harsh over the bumps. Very diplomatic, young Stuart. Personally, this week after the first time this year using my five-year old Interceptor, I would never consider those abominations of the basic concept, ie: the Shotgun or the Super Meteor. Part of the Interceptor's attraction was as a basis for upgrading, which is especially attractive to those of us who like that sort of thing. But, as you say - everyone's different - those ugly monstrosities may suit lazy types who can't be bothered with customisation.

I took heart in your Interceptor videos, enjoying them and at the same time feeling envious, wondering if I would ever ride again. I'm glad to say I am riding again and my Interceptor has just passed its first MOT. I have no experience of the Shotgun but to me it does not press any pleasure buttons. It look like the crowd, black, dowdy and ordinary. My Interceptor, all polished and gleaming attracts attention wherever I go. I feel privileged and proud of my machine.
I don't think the Shotgun does the business and I am not attracted to buy one. I have not ridden one so maybe I would change tack if I did. but I don't think so, the Interceptor is a classic bike, the Shotgun will be forgotten.

Excellent round-up of the RE bloodlines and the inevitable comparison of Interceptor vs Shotgun. I really enjoy your pieces to camera Stu.
Now get inside, get dry and get warm before you catch your death 👍
Edit: I'll just add that the Shotgun might just be the "gateway" motorbike to get people ready for the introduction of a Classic 650 without it being too much of a shock for those who insist the Classic must always be a single cylinder machine. The Classic 500 based on the J series platform might not have been technically possible which is probably why we haven't seen it. The presence of the Shotgun allows for a market test before the Classic 650 appears? In the meantime they've kind of created a motorcycle which sits very much between the traditional genres and I like it very much. RE are doing a brilliant job of appeasing their home market whilst also providing very relevant bikes for the wider world too. Some of the Indian motorcycle channels including the excellent "MotorInc" have hinted for a time that their domestic market is changing and larger capacity bikes are now very much in demand too.

Hi Stuart, thanks for yet another great video.
I was wondering how foot positioning differs from the interceptor?
I've had my interceptor for nearly 5 years and absolutely love it. I just rode it to Venice and back home ( Béziers) 8 days, mainly B roads and found it uncomfortable for my legs ( probably just getting old) hence my question.
Love your work keep em coming.

I've been away for a bit Stuart but it looks like you're trimming down a bit. Looking good!
Being a huge fan of mint/chocolate chip must be why I LOVE this Shotgun 650. I like the foot peg placement, not true forward assist and not far back like the Interceptor........kind of a "mid-peg" placement. Good Stuff Uncle Stu....Thanks!

Quite like the overall look of the Shotgun, but some of the tank graphics on other colours, just look cheap & spoil it.

Hi Stuart, great content and honesty in everything you release 👍 simplicity and reliability are key in a motorcycle for me and ease of servicing a huge plus point. The interceptor ticks all the boxes 👍 life and motorcycles dont need to be so complicated 🤣 safe riding and keep up the good work 👍🏍⛽ (subscribed)🥇

To be perfectly frank, what more than you need beyond a tacho and Speedo, Interceptor does a great job without overcomplicated unnessary gadgets, done 10K on my 2020 bike with no issues 🙄

What a great comparison ! You touched on everything I would have asked about. My conclusion is exactly what I thought it would be ...I am an Interceptor guy!! Mine has never been short of brilliant and is here for the duration, I rate it as the one bike I will never sell. The Shotgun only really stumbles on one issue - it looks like a big Chinese budget 125 to my ancient eyes! Long live The Inter 650 my forever companion!

I like the look of the bare alloy cases on the interceptor, but having owned one for years now i know how much effort it takes to keep them looking half decent. If i had my motorbike buying time agsjn i think I'd be very tempted to go with the black cases.

I agree that the Shotgun is indeed an evolved Bullet. From the side it has even kept the same shaped side panels.
Your Interceptor is looking impeccable (although I would prefer a clear fly screen ,-) Orange crush is the perfect colour!
Wish the Classic 350 Reborn had the brilliant pillion seat becomes rack feature.

Lovely video. I see the passion you have to both bikes and great personal input. As for notifications on YT, it seems they are spending money on " fun" things while watching videos, like making buttons glow when words are said. Switching comment box's to the side of the video rather then below as it was. I very much dislike how they are changing the viewer layout. I use to get a notification of your video when you posted a video, now it's something I have to look for. Still have the bell activated, but I can see YT has made useless changes to what has decreased likes on videos because of the layout they have changed. I come from, if it works, don't fix it! Happy hump day Sir

I had the opportunity to test ride both the Shotgun and the Continental GT last Saturday. The suspension comfort was better on the Continental GT, reacted less harsh on bumps. But more enthusiastic cornering was less precise: it felt like the front wheel tyre was giving away whe pressed. The seating position is active, but not so comfortable in the long run. It had a super fine engine sound! The best there is: silent, well tuned and very enjoyable to ride without earplugs. The Shotgun had a too upright seating position for my taste, all bumps could easily trasfer through the spine. There was a false neutral between the 5th and 6th gear, which was very annoying. Last year I tried a Classic 350 that had several false neutrals between gears. However, I tried another Classic that worked perfectly, like the Continental GT did. The latter had no gear indicator, but the very beautiful rev counter is a treat! However, having experienced false neutrals on two different REs makes me doubt the longevity of the gearbox...

Nice one, Stu. I think you made a good comparison with the new Shotgun being a more "complete" bike. I still would not trade in my Interceptor - I think it appeals more to tinkerers like myself who love the old British styling. I have been modding (like the usual suspension upgrade) the bike to push it's retro look at bit further, resulting it in being a reflection of my personal taste. In my mind, the Interceptor has it's iconic value as the "turning point" for RE while still being the "old" RE in terms of being a motorcycle design that quickly can turn into something unique and personal, just as it is with the old Bullets. The Shotgun will definitely appeal to those who just want to ride out "out of the box" and enjoy that rock solid engine - although I would expect the aftermarket to be able to scratch the customisation itch. I think the big difference in tinkering is with the Interceptor - it appeals more to retro minded motorcyclist - the garden mechanic type that likes a platform that invites customisation.

I think what you said before, the Shotgun is the new "BULLET" however my only reservation is they don't offer it with polished cases, I love the polished finish, I see black engine and think 80s Kawasaki, maybe that's just me. Another brilliant honest reveiw thank you Stuart.

Thanks for the review Stuart. These happen to be the two 650’s that appeal to me most for a second bike, due in large part to the controls. I’m just not a fan of foot forward controls. Trouble is though that I absolutely love the looks of them both, so maybe both??? And do I have room???

I started watching this channel in 2019 and ended up buying my Interceptor the same year. I still have the bike and still love it. It's relaxed, has character and has been totally reliable. Would I swap it for the Shotgun? Yes I would but I'm still happy with what I have. I also have a Kawasaki Z900rs which looks retro too, albeit a different era. The Kawasaki has been reflashed etc and can certainly be the hooligan bike the Interceptor can never be, I love them both.
