Have Royal Enfield Hit the target, Or have they missed? This new RE Shotgun 65o takes aim right at Harley Davidson with the gap they left in the market when they discontinued the Evo Sportsters. Those bikes had oodles of character and charm.
Royal Enfield seem to be doing a good job at filling that gap with the super meteor 650, but does the shotgun live up to its brother? In todays video I find out. I go into detail on the power, handling, engine, feel, sense of occasion, stopping power, styling and more...

And of course wrap it up in the way cool Darcy style 😎

Yes sir 👏
True, most reviews didn't really make the shotgun stand out. However, this review made the shotgun appealing. Problably due to his apparent passion, the angles in the shot and the blue paint.
A 650 Scrambler is the bike that in my opinión, will make more sense. If Royal Enfield do it right it can be a best seller
@@manuelabreu8764 I agree ! 👍
I,m 74 and been riding since I was 16. I had 45 years of Harley’s and loved every minute of ownership. A big decision I decided to downsize I went for the RE super meteor 650 and absolutely love it. It does everything I need from a bike and it’s not intimidating for an old timer. Great channel.
The same for me, I was 16 when I got on a Liberator 1942, I am now 77 and stopped Harley a year ago and now ride the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, a great machine!!!!
If you both say it, it s a law. All the experience on the road that you have got it s gurantee. I ll go for the Super Meteor 650👍👏👏 safe road
I went from a Honda nighthawk to the Supper Meteor and I love it. I can't weight to go touring with it this summer.
I'm assuming that's because a Harley Davidson purchase is a major 'family conference' discussion, whereas Royal Enfield have brought back 'impulse purchase' back into existence.
Young at heart Sir, and inspritational I must say.
When even Honda starts copying you, you are doing something utterly cool. Good job RE
What is Honda copying..I'm thinking about getting shadow phantom
@bboyg1 honda is copying RE Himalayan for CB350 and they are also copying RE Scram 411
Have a look at Handa highness cb350 new model.,..
Honda just does everything better. RE is overrated and unnecessarily romanticized.
@ashwindevms That is ur opinion, lol ! See those cb models, they are nothing but clear-cut inspiration(or u can say it copy) from prev. RE bikes . I am not a RE fanboy, though the truth is always the truth❤
Went into my local dealer for a browse, left as the owner of a shotgun, coming from big capacity sports & tourers I wondered if I’d miss them, nope! bags of character, the style & ergo’s great, handling was surprising, smiles for miles, exactly how riding should be, simple & fun, Haven’t had that in years!
Same thing happened to me..came in shop to take a look with zero plans and left the shop with shotgun650...however I came from a maxi scooter, not a sports tourer))
i want to buy every model of Enfield's they all seem to be such a lovely bikes to ride hopefully this spring i'll have one.

I am anticipating the Shotgun coming to the Western United States. I'm particularly enamored with the Stencil White paint option. The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 will be my next bike ;-)

The reason why RE is so good is because they actually have years and years of experience from improving by listening to bike riders and lovers.

Re isnt good 😂😂.. its quality disaster
Thanks in helping me decide on my new bike - it will be the Shotgun (have to test ride it before, but man - the looks! the price! the ability to customize!)
I have had my Shotgun less than a week, and it just keeps growing on me more and more. It's a "modern retro" done right. All the charm of an old school bike, but with EFI and modern electricals, tubeless wheels and tires instead of spokes and tubes, and a great chassis/suspesion. People probably won't believe me, but having ridden an Interceptor for several days last year, and now my Shotgun, the Shotgun handles/feels better on nice curvy back roads.
I'm an Interceptor owner, but love the look of the Shotgun. And the blue is gorgeous, as you said. Some nice instruments too, which seem like an upgrade to those on my bike.
I think this is the best looking Royal Enfield they have made so for , I really enjoy your real world reviews 👍 so many bike channels think everyone is a racer, and faster is better!? This is a really dangerous way to sell and promote bikes ! Like you say, bikes are about character and how they make you feel ! Great work 👍
In India we have a chrome varient of this and it looks majestic.
There are so many things I love about my RE, one of them is the simplicity and that I can do all the servicing on the bike on my own and still have warranty. I have a GT 650 in a few years I would not be surprised if the Shot Gun would be my next bike. I love the Blue and yellow the bike looks and sounds really nice. love it.
This comes with a center stand … beats HD in that alone … 🎉
I watched because I love the way you and your father review bikes. It helps that your cinematography and backdrop are amazing.
Glad you enjoy it!
Amazing time to be a motorcyclist. I'm 57 and when I was a teenager it was Japanese or something else if you were rich. The choice these days is unbelievable. Never been a cruiser biker but this or a Triumph Bobber just appeals in my cruiser years!
´Cruiser years.´ Yup.
We all get there at some point (If we survive the Crotch Rocket years that is!) @@jackdeniston59
I really love everything Royal Enfield has made so far in the last 6 years. They really offer something for everyone and for a fair price no less.
Am also a big fan of the focus of smaller cc engines as I think the trend has been a bit to much "bigger is better".
I've heard nothing but positive reviews, on this new bike from Royal Enfield. For me it's a lovely bike. The price is unbeatable. They are building attractive styling motorcycles that the people can afford to buy...And the engine on the bike is bullet proof. Quality, finish and value. That's hard to find in the world today. This company is very conscience in building brand loyalty in my opinion and its sales are a result of just that. I would like to try one of these 650 Shotgun motorcycles. I have a good feeling one would be parked in my garage.
Right, They do maintain quality even in their cheapest variants too❤
I've got a Classic 350 and love it so much....
why??? what is it about the bike (I'm trying to choose between a Himmy and a 350) I should have been more specific: I'm looking at doing relaxed touring. What I like about the classic is: it's sweet J series engine......

This is the third vlog I've watched on this new RE and everybody is raving about it. I must agree if I was able to afford one it definitely would be in that shade of blue. Great vlog, well done, ride safe 🤓
I like everything about it except the graphics. Would have preferred a chrome badge on the tank.
They are testing classic 650 seems to have retro look from the spy shots
or brass finish. imagine one in black and brass.
I was initially hesitant, but that bike is growing on me, especially in that blue.
Thanks for a great review.
I applaud what RE have done on putting this bike together.
Listening to the the review bike, it sounds more Superdream than 883 Sportster.
But that's not necessarily bad, as 883s were usually only jumping off points for bigger H-Ds while Honda twins have always sold on their own merits.
All REs have a centre stand. Absolute must for me...........long may they fit them!
Whoops!....Having been corrected by subsequent comments regarding a couple of models that don't come with centre stands, I guess I should prefix my original comment with "Almost". Oh well, " sh*t happens" as they say.
The Scram 411 doesn't have a center stand
My 2019 GT Continental 650 wasn't supplied with one from the factory but they're cheap enough to buy and all the fitting points are still on the bike.
@@veritasvincit2745i think all continentals have one , you should message them about what happened , they will send a spare if they have one
I wish they'd fitted kickstarters too!
I couldnt have told you were 6'1" but as soon as you sat on it you dwarved it :D Also as an Indian Im proud that my country made this beauty and so many more with the 650 engine on it.
Gorgeous! Well done Royal Enfield!
Normally not my style of bike but I truly think this is stunning. I would be super proud to own this. Great chat as always Mr Darcy. Really enjoyed the video
Many thanks 😊
Good review. Couldn’t agree with you more. I really enjoy my Super Meteor, but I will have to try a Shotgun… just because!!
For me that is a truly handsome machine. It should not surprise me how very important colour is in appreciating the appearance of an object but it always does. The blue and black combination is very pleasing to my eye.
Perhaps more importantly, the bike overall seems to be a very sensible design. I think your review was excellent in bringing out some of the design aspects.
I don't own a motorbike but if I did I may be unusual in saying that I don't like noise. So the stock exhaust would be my preference. Even more importantly, in viewing you on the machine it seemed to me that the riding position is quite different to its Super Meteor sibling. I prefer the more rearward position of the foot and lower leg.
Thanks for an excellent review. I am tempted by this beauty!

When you walk up to a motorcycle it should make you smile……Royal Enfield makes me smile in all areas. Styling, performance, comfort, color selection and most of all price and value…….Royal Enfield is knocking it out of the park. Great review….thank you
If I would have known this was coming out this year and available in the States this spring I would have not bought a 2023 Himalayan two months ago. Boy am in regretting that purchase for so many reasons.
My only criticism of RE’s choice with this a a few other bikes is they need to ditch that useless tripper system and either replace it with a proper tachometer or just center the speedo and be done with it. I have the tripper on my Himalayan and it’s no substitute for a cell phone and a good mount. It’s just taking up space.
You can't go wrong with a RE. Beautiful Motorcycles.👍
I liked the super meteor when that came out but I think the shotgun with the rear seat pad removes looks better and I would prefer the mid set pegs. These engines can be made to sound brilliant with a new set of pipes. Looking forward to the Continental comparison with the Norton, I must say an amusing potential comparison.
Awesome video! I've been very curious about the Shotgun, really liked the design when the prototype was shown a couple years back. I currently have an Interceptor, which I bought because of you and your dads reviews and high praises and really love it. I'm still trying to decide what kind of bike is for me at the moment. I grew up in Sturgis and still live within an hours drive and everyone I know has Harley's so it's hard not to get one of those myself, I just can't seem to pay 20k or more for a motorcycle, at least not yet. Anyway, thanks for the video and keep up the great work! I'm loving all the RE designs, they're really knocking them out of the park for the middle weight segment.
Looks good. I can definitely see a classic 650 underneath. Fingers crossed it’s out this year.
Is RE really planning on coming out with a Classic 650? That would be great!
😂for sure they will change the rear mud guard and put up classic mirrors and it will become a classic 650 🤡
They may keep the silencers the same if not it will start looking like a super meteor
@@JamEWalshyeah, but a Scrambler 650 prototype has been spotted recently, so I guess they will release that one first.
RE Classic 650 is currently under testing. It is expected to be launched within 2024 or by the first quarter of 2025
The best thing about the price is that you can afford almost to have two. Loads of character, sounds amazing with sports exhaust, actually handles really good, and I feel a perfect replacement for the iron 883, with the price I might be able to get the new 450 Himalayan, it seems RE have kicked the KTM 390 Adventure from top spot
Finally sat on one at the new Salon de la Moto in Douai on Saturday. I wanted to see if the suspension was a little softer than the SM650. As it was on its centre stand, I might as well have sat on a rock!!
I really like those gloss engine cases, nice touch. Another pretty good looking bike from RE.
Love the blue. Perhaps not the graphics so much. Footpegs in the "correct" position sets this apart from the super meteor. Great review as always. Thanks 👍
Great review Darcy 👍.
Now, that awkward sidestand 🤔 you gotta be careful of those 🥳😇
Really impressed with the finish on the engine cases too. They've left the Royal Enfield badge in bare alloy which is great attention to detail as it would likely rub off with your boot anyway.
I bought one yesterday and have done about 50klm today. 14:08
So happy with my purchase!!
Would highly recommend a test ride for anyone.

Solid review mate. Love this and all REs. They are a work of art.
RE Shotgun is very promising and affordable. Love the look.
I guess why royal enfield makes such a good bike is the fact that maximum re are sold in India where one will get every kind of roads like full of potholes to butter smooth to Rocky Himalayan to sandy rajasthan. So the testing is done on these terrain for years . And experience re got could not be matched. 😊

@@narendrairengbam112 i do own and many of friends own this junk metal 🤓..an we know how much quality issue RE has ..fanboys who watch REs only in videos boast about RE
It’s a lovely looking bike. Being used to bigger engines, I have a bit of an issue with the 650cc. I’ll have to test one to see how justified that issue is.
Not a fan of Royal Enfield but all in all i think you made a valid point here. Royal Enfield has filled a gap in the market quite brilliantly. Even the color of that bike is similar to the paint on my 2019 Street Bob 124 Big Bore Club Style. Hats off to Royal Enfield and as always, great episode Mr Darcy.
Beatiful bike....More beautiful than most of the Harley models....Only thing i didn' t like is double exhaust....i prefer it was single and on the right side as usual....
You talk with the same cadence and intonation as your dad. How cool is that.
I heard myself talk not long ago on a recording. OMG. It was as if I heard my father-who has been gone for m any years- talk.
We sing like our parents taught us. Just like birds.
if they release some different paint styling, id definitely consider getting one. not a fan of the more modern take on the detailing if that makes sense. In saying that, the bike probably isn’t marketed for my taste so not even a complaint. Its intended as a nice modern cruiser with older styling.
The inevitable classic 650 is probably what im after :)
For me the new Shotgun fixes all the little problems with the other 650s: It's got the best footrest position of the bunch, the seat looks miles more comfortable than the others and the colour scheme is more consistent than the interceptor and Conti. The black finish on the engine cases and wheels is a lot more practical than the polished finish on the others and cast wheels allows for tubeless tyres; a big plus in my opinion.
What do you mean best footrest position, that depends on the type of motorcycle, different genre of motorcycles have different foot rest position. This is a cruiser so foot rest is front set. So you mean to say you like cruisers. Say like that.
Also, chrome parts and blacked out are subjective. One may like chrome and one may like black. And seats comfort wise, I think the larger single broad and long seat of an interceptor should be more comfortable then this single butt shape seats of cruisers. Anyways I am really confused by your comments, nothing seems to make sense.
@@narendrairengbam112 which is why I prefaced what I said with "For me" 😉
I don't see this as anything like a Sportster tbh I see it more as a cheap imitation of the Triumph Bobber. Good value for money but just lacks something for me. I really don't get RE keep sticking the tripper on everything. We all have personal preferences for nav options so why not offer it as an extra? I would much rather have a central speedo without that thing I'm never going to use stuck on the side.
@@deltabluesdavidraye Do they ? where do you get that information? I hear far more complaints about RE relays and speedos fogging etc. than I do about Triumphs and my own Triumph has been absolutely faultless and still looks fantastic at 6 years old.
RE makes motorcycles primarily for India and Indians want tripper navigation
@@deltabluesdavidraye nope Triumph is better

A very appealing bike! I am (almost) a senior biker who downsized to a 411 Scram which I love. I the bought an aircooled Sportster 1200 as a second (!) bike. Now seeing this Shot Gun I begin wondering if that was the right choice..? 😁
Awesome! I think I’d have the sportster personally. The character is so cool 😎
I booked a shotgun and waited for it, on the day of pick up i did a test ride, it was good. Then i asked for the test ride on Interceptor. It took just few seconds to change my mind and I took home Interceptor with chrome tank. Shotgun is good but Interceptor just felt like at home, you got to try it to know it. Great review, thanks!
the shocks "kinda gives you a bit of jolt" ...yep.
I saw this bike in the flesh today and was impressed . Seemed smaller than the Super Meteor somehow.
Chrome exhaust with fishtail mufflers would be nice.
Iridium plugs or split fire will make a bit of difference. Did this on my 883 and 1200 harley sportster
Like the Triumph, those motors have no character so I bought the last Sportster 1200 with a carburetor which oozes character (look, sound and feel). I know because I also own a Triumph America.
Just loving everything RE is doing lately! I just wish they had models with more powerrr haha
Good review. I just rode it this past weekend and came off of it very surprised. A bit taken, actually.
After 40 years and dozens of bikes - this is the perfect one for me. It resembles the Classic 350 in looks, handles like a UJM, Bonneville or Interceptor, but feels lighter and swifter. I think it has lines inherent from pre 1940’s but with a modern take. I own a Continental GT, a Classic 350 and a 2015 Triumph Bonneville - the Shotgun will replace them all in my garage.😊
Awesome to hear!
Fantastic engine/exaust sound
I love the look and always love Royal Enfield. Though I wonder if my skinny frame can hold it up at a stop.
Harley could never sell the Shotgun without selling it for an extra $10,000
In America Lack of dealerships is why I haven't bought yet
I visited an RE dealer last week in Plano Texas. Though I love the sound of the twin 650 engine, I do believe I prefer the 350 Bullet because it is much lighter. I liked the seat and riding position just a little more than the Meteor and Classic 350. Your review of the 650 hit all of the points that interested me.
Bullet in 650 cc variant will be announced soon

I'm really impressed by your review. I absolutely love the looks. And that sound man!! 😌😌🥰 Beautiful sound. Almost identical to the GT 650, But with a heavier bassy sound. Sounds like a shotgun! ❤ I think if we change the stock exhaust to a sporty one, I'm sure we're gonna get some crackling shots coming out. 💥💥

I am the biggest fan of RE. never thought about Harley.
Not only is it a "Shotgun" it's also a "Double barrel" and it's sibling is a "Bullet". Good old Enfield. Did you know another name for a Bullet is "Slug"... Doesn't have a good ring about it though:))
I do like this bike a lot! And for me the standard exhaust is fine, louder than my t120 I believe. I am an old guy at 72 years and understand your point of view.
Videos like this are making it really hard to decide on if I want a Royal Enfield or a CB650 for my third motorcycle. The RE might not be as self-delete fast as an inline four, but man are the Shotgun and GT650 absolutely gorgeous motorcycles that speak to me as loudly as screaming down the freeway at mach 3 does.
If they speak to you,Go check them out! I did & bought an Interceptor 2yrs ago And Never Regretted It I Love It I’ve done the usual upgrades & MADE IT MY OWN! Oh & I still get people asking me about the bike!👍🏻
It would be nice if they considered the American market a little more as we don't have any news on either this or the Himalayan 450 whatsoever up to this point with riding season only weeks away. Very nice review of course! Always here for the honesty.

I wish RE would make something around the Japanese level of power in the 650CC class (94 hp), in the classic RE look.
47HP is just too little for my area, where crusing at 80 to 90 mph on the highway is the norm.
RE is not meant for speed man
It's for that slow speed cruising while you feel that cool breeze hit your nostril.
And then you reach a solitary point where there are no humans; only that engine of yours emitting a little heat.

We’ll have to see what the sales figures are like, some of these fashions are on the wain, cafe racers for example are less popular than a couple of years ago, in fact Triumph have stopped making the 1200 Thruxton due to falling sales.

The blue is very pleasing- and I like the yellow but not so much the text. I would choose the sheet metal grey.
Those 650's are screaming pure british muscle, like Triumphs. Best sounding bikes ever, pure bliss.
It's a cool bike, I prefer it over the Super Meteor, but I think it's a shame that Royal Enfield hasn't gone all the way and given it a belt drive like the Sportster, which is clearly the inspiration for it. It's about time, to put it mildly, that belt drive spreads further than just Harley and Indian. It has been around for more than 40 years as a clean, maintenance free alternative to all those miserable chains, what are we waiting for? But thumbs up to RE for the center stand, they are just about the only manufacturer who still fit them to their bikes.
Check out Teacher Thailand for info on the belt drive kit and his review of it.
I look under the pretty pieces to see what the welds, and infrastructure looks like. RE has surpassed Kawasakis welds, not quite there with Honda yet, which is one the very best, but being that it is not a premium brand, they are impressively compatible with more “exclusive” marques. Solid and durable.
Had the 350 to get back to biking after many years almost bought a super 650 but fell for a v7850.Shot gun looks brilliant would be nice with a belt drive
Is it me, or are all the colour/scheme options a bit wonky? Surely this blue would look better with black/grey/silver replacing the yellow? Some of the Redditch 350 options of tank colours on this, with black mudguards, would improve it no end.
Not the best colour schemes, that’s true
Interceptor/gt 650 ,super meteor 650, Hunter 650 , Shotgun650, Classic 650 !!!

Great vid as always! RE sure do have some cool bikes these days. We don't have a dealer in the country I live, so I never managed to get myself on one. I would probably have had an Interceptor by now if they imported them! A local dealer has just started getting the BSA's in, so that may tempt me away from my beloved Kawasaki.
My favorite bike . On indian roads 650cc is way more than what is needed , 400 cc are more than enough so 650 cc is the best for India .
