Was in San Diego a few weeks ago. I was surprised at dinner when my Marine brothers started talking about RE. These dudes are hardcore Adventure Bike dudes who've been all over the world. I guess I'm not the only one interested...
I do have one and I love it!! Got it because I wanted some kind of cruiser bike but still wanted to sit aggressive enough to get around corners without any problems. And that's exactly what this bike is!! I love to cruise it and just let the World around me appear like a good place but if I want to go fast and ride a little more sporty I CAN. Overall that thing just leads to me not being able to stop smilling while I'm having a ride. AND IT LOOKS AMAZING TO!
On Nov 4th I test rode the Super Meteor here in San Diego and put a deposit on one even though the rear shocks almost killed my back. After a few weeks of thinking about it I changed my mind and put a deposit on the blacked-out Int 650 and should be here sometime next month (February) God willing. As far as the Shotgun it is really a strange looking bike, they should have put a Tach instead of the tripper. Thanks for sharing. 😎
Enfield is doing a great service for riders by introducing solid bikes at a reasonably price point. I think this is how we get more people into the sport, especially young people who can't afford to drop 10 or 20 thousand bucks on a bike
Ridden both the interceptor and continental, neither really had what I want. Love the engine though. Predictable, lovely sound. This one has potential. Hopefully has that something I am looking for. Certainly has the looks,
Out of curiosity, what was in about the INT650 you didn't like? I currently have an INT650 and I kind of feel the same. I've added grips, motone up and back bar risers and a better RE Touring seat and it's definitely better but still doesn't hit that spot for me that feels perfect. It's kind of a starter bike for me, and I'm not sure what to get next. I really like the Triumph Bobbers looks and feels great to sit on as well but I want to be able to ride for a couple hours without being too uncomfortable. I recently rode my friends Kawasaki Klr650 adv bike and love the overall comfort but don't really like adv looks. It does have me looking at the yamaha tenere 700 though.
wat I would do is get it looking like the concept shown. That muscular and angled silver head, bold wheel covers, custom paint job matching the concept. As far as I see, this bike's a blank canvas.
This vs the Honda CL 500? I realize the CL 500 is more scrambler-ish but I get similar vibes... Granted the Shotgun is a far prettier bike but I get the feeling I would be happy on both.
I am pushing 68, I rode in my 20’s (Honda Hawk 400 and BMW R65) then got married, had kids, the bikes went away. Divorced, retired and moved to Mexico, second childhood kicked in, and now have a Royal Enfield Himalayan, ideal around town and in the country, but looking for something with more horsepower for the highway. I test road an Interceptor (it was not a good fit for me) and then a Shotgun 650. The SG 650 fit quite well, I was impressed, the suspension is a little stiff for the roads here in Mexico and we have “topes” or speed bumps all over the place that you have to deal with. I am not sure how much adjustment the rear suspension has in it, or what can be done to soften it. That is something I need to look into. I agree with what another guy said, " they should have put a Tach instead of the tripper".
Nice practical review. I was curious about handling and ride quality when riding aggressively. You nailed it. It seems RE struggles with suspension. They solved the front by using another manufacturer, but rear remains a thorn in their side on most models. I'm still on the fence, but am looking forward to the upcoming season with my 2021 fireball 350. Cheers 😎
If you need to change out the rear suspension, I'm sure Hitchcock's Motorcycles in the UK can help! They have everything RE, and they carry a nice line of Hagon shocks. I was thinking of getting a pair for my Meteor 350. I like my bike, but the rear shocks could use some improvement. Maybe a pair of Hagons from Hitchcocks' will help... :)
I have a meteor 350. It’s my first bike and I love it. The shotgun could very well be my next in some time! I think it’s a better evolution (to the meteor) than the super meteor

If the rear suspension is on the lowest preload it does pogo, even if you are a light rider. Both the Super Meteor and the Shotgun need 2 clicks of preload on the rear shocks as a base point for any rider. The stock 0 preload setting would only work for skeletons... its an odd choice.
I think my used, often maligned or praised (depending who you are), Suzuki S40 Boulevard was a better buy ($1500) for my first bike than paying over $6K (with dealer fees, etc.) for a new Royal Enfield Meteor several years ago. I think the guy in front of this rider is Sarge ! Sagar Sheldekar
A downside for me is the colour / graphics. They're honkin'.
I recently test drove the INT 650 and realized why you guys said royal enfields are “bad bikes”. Had pretty bad feel on clutch, brakes, gearbox and ergos like the foot pegs. 😢I was quite disappointed
Try reviewing the TVS Apache RTR 310. It is based on the BMW G310 R. I had a chance to test drive it. It was pretty good.
As an Indian expat Im so dissapointed in this bike. I agree to all of what you said about it... Its plain boring, with an identity crisis . I thought id get this one cuz of the concept but have changed my mind time to wait for the next pos RE ig.. .What actually surprised me is that it looked small while you riding it. not a good look tbh
Still a good starter option for ppl that don't want a Rebel and don't have the $$ for fancier bikes imo
Agree with the slightly uninspiring looks
Remember the time when YammieNoob was a hardcore RE hater?!😂
It will definitely be under super meteor (price) as rumours say.
basically a bobberfied sm 650
Eh, Ive had my Continental for over a year and I’m ready for an upgrade. As weird as it is, I’ve gotten quite a bit of grief for modding my RE. I wish they’d put a bigger engine in these form factors. Great entry level bike for sure.
Yeah I wish they'd have a bigger engine option.
The home market at present is not that favorable for 800 or higher cc models for RE to justify the expense.
So they will not do it in near future.
