Haven’t watched many of your vids for a while cos I’m not in the market to change but thought I’d watch this. Nice bike. May I say Andy you are a refreshing change from many RUclipsrs that seem to only want to thrash the arse out of every bike they try and rate them only really in performance terms. Your real world ride in the wet at everyday speed is a lot more relevant. 👍

Yeah, there's a few channels I no longer watch due to poor riding, and thinking power/bhp is what counts.

Well thank you very much - I ride bikes for the thrill yes but I try and keep speed in check, it's all about taking in the countryside for me (I get that some just love "skids and wheelies")....

My respect for riding on those roads in the wet. They looked slick. Well done , you’re a braver man than me. Then again I live in AUS where it never rains in most areas 😁

I test road the Shotgun 650 after I rode the Himalayan 450. I loved the Shotgun, it felt, as you say, a very relaxed ride. Plenty of power, but doesn’t push you to want to use all the power. I can’t imagine the long awaited Classic 650 will be much different to ride, perhaps a few cosmetic changes, instrument cluster differences and likely a different exhaust and respective tone. But all in all, I think this is a modern day Classic. A lot of bike for not a lot of money.

  • @ukvamp
    @ukvamp 4 часа назад +4

    Think you meant 648cc not 548 🙂
I love the Shotgun, I rode a Himalayan, interceptor and a shotgun and the shotgun was by far my fave!
The demo bike i rode had aftermarket pipes and it sounded awesome!
Would love one as a second bike! Hopefully one day!
I never knew 47bhp could be so much fun!
I think every biker should give the royal enfield range a try and ignore the spec sheets.
One thing that never gets mentioned is the service costs. Absolute bargain service costs wise compared to other brands.
My local dealer charges £240 for the big service and about £110 for the intermediate service

I think that was a fair review....im really glad you didn't end it with ''I don't really know what this is and aimed at'', regardless of that they're flying off the shelves...
The day i test rode the shotgun in the northern Welsh Hills i absolutely loved it....but id ridden the 450 Himi...and even though I like traditional looking clocks i missed the Himi clock....
The shotgun is on my top bike want early next year....thank you for such a no nonsense review 👍

Great show again, thank you very much 🙏🏼.
The Shotgun is the very first of Royal Enfield's models that really attracts me. I testrode it some weeks ago, loved it instantly and think it's perfect for a chilling cruise after work or lazy roaming on scenic roads on the weekend.
I'd like to have one, but need to get rid of one of the other bikes for limited garage space. So I'm in the painful process of decision making 🙄

Personally i also like this type of bike, I had a Vulcan 650 year's ago but I never got on with this feet forward lark. Visiting my local Enfield/Kawasaki dealer in Preston i was shown an Eliminator in a rather fetching matt black finish. Its only a 500, infact a 451, but it's way lighter than the Enfield with a low seat, mid pegs and a sporting engine. The clutch is feather light, the suspension is good as are the brakes and tyres, i have to say for under 6 grand i was mightily impressed.

  • @jimmyjam8795
    @jimmyjam8795 Час назад

Someone described acceloration noise as being like a dying bison! They are quite heavy, and just need a good amount of rider input. Rear brake is definitely very strong... intentionally so. Foot pegs can sometimes get in the way when you put your foot down, and other than that seems to be a good bike. Nice review too.

I don’t really know what a “bobber” is but when I see this bike that’s the class I’d see it in. I just googled bobber yesterday and have to admit I’m more confused than ever about what it is!

Nice review. I'd call it a roadster - doesn't realky look anything like a cruiser. Because of the limited bhp I think the Meteor is the better option, you might as well just sit back, cruise, and enjoy the views. If you want a good roadster buy a 20-year-old Suzuki SV1000 (naked) for about £2,500. Fantastic bike, great engine, great handling.

I test rode this bike. Compared to some other cruisers like the Rebel it feels quite different, less-cruiser like. :) The look is very attractive. I agree about the clutch being a bit heavy. The brakes were mediocre and the ABS kicked in very soon, but other than that a very nice bike for the money. Not among the lightest in the category. :) We should be aware that this is not an expensive bike. Nice video, just like always.

Interesting review. It's a nice looking bike & good value too. I don't mind the classic cruiser looks at all but not a fan of the foot forward riding position so glad this doesn't have it personally. Best of both worlds to me. Brakes are an easy enough fix too with a braided line & new pads I imagine.

I agree with your review including the brakes and weight factors. My GT seems to lack the feel I would like compared to my BMW R1250RS, but the pricing is 1/4 of it. The weight, even with my Classic, means a lot on a windy day and makes the ride enjoyable. Always wondered what Micky Mouse mirrors were called before "Micky Mouse". LOL.

I'm totally with you when it comes to ergonomics. The feet forward pegs are uncomfortable to me and I just can't get used to them. The up and rear-ward pegs of sports bikes are what I have always used but at my age and physical condition today, they've become difficult to endure. This is why I love that the industry and riders have chosen 'standard' or naked bikes as 'the' category of the day. The mid mount pegs and up(ish) right riding position is where I fit best now. This bike seems to fit the bill near perfectly.

Great review and so helpful to real world riders as always! Can i ask what your thoughts are vs the 450 Himilayan. Appreicate its apples and oranges, but i'm 6ft 3 and though i love the look of the shotgun, I'm drawn to the Himilayan for the height and leg position, just not sure whether that single is going to be as nice to live with as the 650 twin. What's your thoughts, would you find the Himi engine tiresome after a while compared to this Shotgun?

Morning Andy, great review as usual.
I love the look of the Shotgun but the big downside for me is the weight. My Kawasaki Eliminator 500se (similar styling) has similar power and is only 174kg some 66kg lighter) which makes it a lot sportier and more nimble. Its also far easier to move around for me as I have to move the bike sideways on a dolly then pull it backwards out of my bike shed down a 1 foot wide ramp onto a gravel drive and then turn it round. At 62 with a duff knee and tennis elbow, 240kg it’s both hard work and too easy to drop.

It does sound like a lot but honestly my Interceptor feels heavier....I usually struggle with heavy bikes (as I'm a wealking with a dickie shoulder) but this one was OK....much better than the high weight figure would have you believe. Thanks for watching again....

Good review Andy,, When I rode the Shotgun my main complaints about this bike are the weight and the colour options. The weight puts it in the same bracket as a large 900cc capacity andventure bike and the 120cc bonnevilles which have twice the power. I wonder if this is why the single disc setup is as you say not powerful enough due to the weight? Out of all the 650 twins this was the one I enjoyed the most.

18:39 - See I prefer the looks of the Vulcan S personally, though it is ~£7.5k to get a colour worth having. The Rebel I blow very hot and cold over on looks, but it is worth saying the base model is £6399, a good saving over this, and for £6799 you can get the Special Edition which is a very handsome thing, with bronze wheels against black paint, a nice little cowl, and a brown diamond-stitch seat. If people are after a classic-looking cruiser there's not a huge amount of choice in this pricepoint, but in general I do think the Rebel is the biggest competition. If I was buying in this segment I believe I'd take the Rebel SE.

I'm still waiting for RE to produce a 650 Himalayan or scrambler. Maybe they're waiting until they have a new liquid cooled twin cylinder engine? If they "doubled up" the 450 Himalayan engine & had a sensibly priced 900cc twin cylinder bike it could really shake up the adventure & touring market sector. But I don't hold out much hope as manufacturers never take my advice!

I have to say Andy, it is a good looking bike and appreciate you braving the weather. However Black pipes and UK weather?... There'll be mud baked on them already, such that theyll never look new again. At least with chrome you can polish off the grime.

That is true....if they were that shiny enamel type finish they would defo work better in out climate.

Mr MF You may be able to assist...following in the footsteps of your better half who recently got her bike, inspired me to cbt and obtain my very own 125cc....my question is (and I really should have considered this in advance)......the insurance is 1k.!!!!???

I never watch the corporate launches. Your real world tests are far better. What on earth are RE making these out of? It's the same weight as an Africa Twin Adventure Sport!

👍 please try the Kawasaki Vulcan S 650, it's a different kettle of ball games , 60hp , very low , sportyish cruiserish, you'll hate the forward foot controls but they can be adjusted .

If the suspension is the same as the SM650 then it's a no, which is a shame.

Why is it a 650 when it only has 548cc?

It actually has 648cc. Just a little human error, no big deal

The problem with reviewing a genre you don’t like is that it turns out to be a bias review (when u mention cruisers) which is kind of a pointless review…might want to stick with naked and sports bikes

I have a SM650, which I love, but when I saw the initial pictures and press releases for the SG650 I thought wow! When I actually saw it in the flesh I found I didn’t like it at all. I hated those peashooter exhausts, and whichever seat configuration was chosen it just didn’t do it for me. I’m sticking with my Super Meteor for now.
