My 2007 Yamaha V-Star 1300 has no tachometer and a heel/toe shifter. It's great once you get use to it. Use your heel to upshift and use the balls of your feet to downshift.
"IT'S NOT A DIRT BIKE!" (That's what I was told.) Cruiser riders don't stand for bumps. If you want to stand rise on the balls of your feet on your floorboards between both sides of the shifter. That's what I do. NOTE: Floorboards ARE an option for the RE SM 650. I've been watching it pretty closely.

Great review, thanks for making it! Funny though.. The heel-toe shifter is one of my favourite features in my Meteor 350. I found it a bit weird at first but was used to it by the end of my very first ride. Now I find it adds to the relaxed cruiser feeling of the bike, and I actually miss it when I try bikes that don't have it. In terms of speed bumps, it's true you can't stand on the pegs of the 350 as easily as with other bikes as a result of the feet-forward position. I can lift my rear end for just long enough to clear a speed bump, but it's definitely more of a chore than with other bikes that don't have the sitting position. However I don't think I've ever had issues unintentionally shifting gears because of that. I'll have to pay attention when I finally get a chance to test ride the new 650 and see if it's more of a problem on it.
Best 650 Meteor video so far. It shows some idea of the performance, thanks. I don't have an issue with the heal and toe shifter on my 350 Meteor, but then again, the foot controls are a little lower and a little further back on the smaller machine. Also, I rode Guzzis with heal/toe shifters for years. I'm hoping that R.E. comes out with more of a mid shifter option not quite so far forward. If they do, I'm trading in the 350. I love the 350, but it could use a few more ponies out there on the prairie.
First experienced a heel shifter on my Moto Guzzi Ambassador in 1971, strange at first but grew to prefer it on cruisers. Of course it was no stranger then the three on the tank and foot clutch on the first motorcycle I ever rode, a '41 Indian Chief. 🙂
Really hope they don't add cruise control in the future- the allure is the simplicity, no reason to complicate it. More technology just means more things that can break which aren't easily fixed.
In india we definitely need the heel shifter because we like to ride with our slippers or flip flops and without heel shifter it hurts like hell. Wearing shoes while riding in extreme heat is a no no atleast for me .
Depois de subscrever ao canal por 2 anos e ver este video seguido de um outro com yammie noob falando português sobre a mesma mota... é o sinal. Tenho que experimentar esta RE. Amo esse canal cada vez mais. Grande abraço
Looks like an interesting bike and it should sell well in the states at that price. I totally understand the heel shifter deal. I bought a new bike a few years back that had a heel shifter and I took it off before leaving the parking lot.
Nice first impression vid Yam, India is a fun and interesting place. I like that you gave a solid impression of the bike while keeping your usual smart-assery in check : ) and also the minimal dunking on the Vulcan 650, which I own and love. I do plan to get a RE Continental GT to go alongside my Vulcan and my Bonneville T100. Keep up the good work.
I never imagined myself on a RE until I had some sort of epiphany last July and bought an INT650. Must say, I never looked back! Most fun ever. This one will sell big time for sure.
Awesome review Yamm! Seems like a trip to remember?! Going to an ancient city plus getting to ride a newly launched bike. Hope you got to cross at least one thing on your bucket list? RE management just seems smart. I loved the Meteor 350 but didn't feel that it would do well on the highways in my state. I think a set of risers will improve the riding posture. I agree that I hope RE puts ride by wire with cruise control on future enhancements.
Big fan of the RE's, hope the aftermarket booms for them. Since Harley isn't interested in making classic air cooled bikes anymore I'll probably be buying RE.
I purchased a SM 650 about month back in Austin,TX and I love everything about this bike so far. I got the standard Trim and am slowly working on building the after market accessories,. I have always been a RE loyalist, having driven the classic 350 in India. So when this bike was available in the US, there were no questions or doubts. I am planning to take this bike on a long drive once the weather improves a little (winter here in TX). I still feel a slight wobble on the turns ( and this may be because the bike tires are still very new less than 200 miles on the bike so far, as I use this mostly less than 15 miles ).
You were in our Incredible India for this run?! Awesome to see that. Hope you had some time to look around some awesome places while you were in my motherland.
Bro, great review and I really appreciate your thoughts on the RESM650. I noted that other than silliness at the end, there was less clowning around here. Thank you for that! You’ve got so much to offer, it’s good to see knowledge and insight take center stage.
I love these bikes, I’ve ridden my share of the four digit displacement bikes and everything in between, but any 650-ish bike is the best of all worlds. It’s where weight, power, art, science, practicality, experience and balance come together into two wheel perfection. Not just a "beginners bike” but a lifetime bike. The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is a beautiful representation of everything, a perfect motorcycle could ever hope to be.
First thing I thought of was Sportster due to the way the rear finder looked but overall it's a nice looking bike, hopefully I find one to try out this summer and at 5'11" I think that 29" seat hight will feel nice, having a Electra Glide, Softail and KLR650 in my garage the Royal Enfield 650 would be a good fit being I just sold my 1200 sportster this last fall.
My 2007 Yamaha V-Star 1300 has no tachometer and a heel/toe shifter. It's great once you get use to it. Use your heel to upshift and use the balls of your feet to downshift.
Yammie in India, reviewing a relatively new RE twin? That’s a pleasant surprise. Be careful on Indian roads though, they do bite. Hope you have a good time in India. Safe travels (rides), Cheers!
I've got the Meteor 350 which has also got the heal shifter & I find it's very good once you get used to it-you don't really need to change the position of your foot depending on whether you're going up or down through the gears-your foot position doesn't change. I've also ridden mine off road quite a bit & had no isssues although generally off road you're not changing gear a lot anyway-usually 2nd or 3rd gear is suffice. Yes they are popular in the indian market simply because it's hot over their so they often wear jandals or such like so easier for them to use. Of coarse if you go back in time the early commuter bikes all had heal shifters.
What I really admire about RE is that it's using many locally produced parts (for example CEAT tyres) for even export models which generally would have been Pirelli or Michelin but yea truly standing for Make In India, Made by India slogan.
I have the CEAT tires on my Meteor 350, and they do a good job. I understand that RE changed to the CEAT tires because of taxes or tariffs. Regardless of why they use them, I like them. They do the job well on my Meteor 350. When it comes time to replace them, I just might stick with them. Unfortunately, I have to order them through my dealer, as CEAT doesn't have much distribution here in the US.
@@vivekanandan5093 I'm happy with them on my Meteor 350. I don't know if they make good, high performance sport tires like Bridgestone, Michelin, Dunlop, or Continental, but my Meteor 350 doesn't need high performance rubber like that; it's not a high performance bike. Anyway, I'm happy with the CEAT Zoom Plus tires on my bike... :)
@@markymarknj even I'm satisfied. Sadly Continental bike tyres in India are on of the worst you can get 🤣 0 grip on wet roads .... Honda CB 150R and CB250R used to come with continental tyres... Almost all users had same complaint of worst grip on wet and gravel conditions
@@vivekanandan5093 I had Conti Road Attacks on my old Kawasaki ZRX1100, a high performance naked bike. That was years ago though. The tires I had gripped well on both wet and dry surfaces. They broke loose ever so gently if you took a turn too fast; they didn't dump you all at once. The Meteor 350 doesn't need name brand tires, as it's not a high performance bike. I haven't tested the CEAT Zoom Plus tires on wet surfaces. I like them so far, and I'm inclined to continue using them after I wear out the original set.

I have the meteor 350 which has the heel shifter on it and I absolutely love it no problem whatsoever accidentally downshifting it but then I was used to Moto Guzzi that had that type of shit mechanism once I get used to you don’t wanna go back
I didn't know you were coming to India. Would have loved to meet you. Thanks for the honest review. RE is one of the few brands left that capture the soul of motorcycling well.
I really hope the durability and quality is there because the other high priced bike makers need to be taught a lesson. It will take time for RE to prove themselves.
I rode several different bikes from 1981 to 2015. Then I was bikeless😥(but searching) until last spring, when I read about the Meteor 350 and HAD to buy one. Not much was said about heel shifter. Let's just say that after I made it home from the dealer (somehow😵💫😵💫), I almost trailered it back to try to get my money back. Luckily, pride wouldn't let me admit to my boyfriend that I made a mistake. After a quick learning curve in more relaxed riding situations, I actually came to LOVE the heel shifter. Feels more solid and is much more comfortable. With the 650 having an even lower seat height than the 350, I might just be making another "1st ride on new bike" from dealer again soon. This time I won't piss off other drivers so much. The Super Meteor seems like it was made for me special order.
This looks to be a great bike which will sell worldwide great but not well in America. It has many competitors. One is the Kawasaki W800 which is now selling brand new for $2,350 off manufacturer's suggested retail ($6849). These kinds of bikes have a particular buyer who is an older one. Unless Royal Enfield can make them 'cool' in America again, I don't see them doing well.

Wow RE invited Yammie to India to ride this at launch? RE is going all out and the results are showing globally.
You called it a "beginner bike". I think that it is more than that! I think it is a Masters bike!
I would buy this motorcycle over the Interceptor 650 mainly like the cast wheels and of course the overall looks of the bike.
In india we definitely need the heel shifter because we like to ride with our slippers or flip flops and without heel shifter it hurts like hell. Wearing shoes while riding in extreme heat is a no no atleast for me .
You will get chaallan (fine) if u ride on slipper
The "highlighted" reply is a scam. DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR INFO!!!!!
I appreciate your Objective Review. Putting all personal opinions aside.
Godspeed Yammie
Welcome to India Yammie, Great to See you review the Super Meteor 650 on Indian Roads....
Damn Yammie!!!! You came to India for testing the bike!!!! Seems you were quite interested in the bike.❤️
I swearrr I love you for coming to India non the less Rajasthan to enjoy an Enfield… Talk about a 360 No Scope! Noob it!
I’m buying one to make it a club style bike haha tbars blacked out road warrior fairing, 2into1 pipe…
Big fan of the RE's, hope the aftermarket booms for them. Since Harley isn't interested in making classic air cooled bikes anymore I'll probably be buying RE.
Brilliant, going all the way to Indian for fantastic content. I think I’ll be taking a test run on one when they become available.
beautiful honest review from a beautiful india... very enjoyable to watch! good work
Sounds like I need to add one of these to my garage. I really like what RE did with the Continental.
Omg Yamie in India.
.
Welcome to India brother.
Hope you had a blast.
It's interesting to watch how much he's changed this trying RE. I guess it can only be a testament to the quality of product they make
I’ve been eyeing the INT650 and the Meteor for years and I feel REALLY ATTRACTED to this bike. I really want this.
That's dank. Much love from the Land of REs.
My 2007 Yamaha V-Star 1300 has no tachometer and a heel/toe shifter. It's great once you get use to it. Use your heel to upshift and use the balls of your feet to downshift.
Good to see you here in India! A big surprise!
When I was a lad(I’m 62!) 650 was a big bike!&people still cruised the whole country on em!🥴👍
Yeah, they're almost making it sound like this would be good for children in the US! It sounds a little crazy to me.
I’ve been waiting for this bike since i saw the first pictures of it I’m glad your as excited as I am
Não sabia que você fala português, foi uma feliz surpresa descobrir isso! Parabéns pelo seu trabalho!
I will be aiming for one very soon. Your review helped to make my mind.
Yammie in India, reviewing a relatively new RE twin? That’s a pleasant surprise.
Be careful on Indian roads though, they do bite.
Hope you have a good time in India. Safe travels (rides), Cheers!
Great review! Love the transitions you have on video 7:01
It’s the old air-cooled Triumph Bonneville America reborn. That’s a good thing in my book.
I love the heel shifter.
@@markymarknj my Yamaha Fz16 (153cc) has Ceat Zoom XL, very decent tyres and economical here in India.
I ride a '98 Honda Shadow Aero, love my heel shifter. Wouldn't want it any other way.
I really, really, really want those black engine covers for my Interceptor.
Why not paint it ?
I'm rubbing and adjusting my eyes a thousand times again and again ..can't believe to see yammienoob riding a RE bike in India
So happy to see you in India. Do some more long distance runs through hill sides , nature in general. Watch out for people jumping in front of coming sang opposite to you on the wrong side as a matter of habit. And ya we hate traffic signals 🙍♂️for some reason
The heel shifter is infact the most useful once you get used to it.
Cruise control!!!!!!! `nononono ... `BIG NONO. As you said this is a an honest cruiser bike. I, myself, and I don't think I am in the minority, we want less electronics and computers and better frame, engines, seats, bars, etc. instead ... Just 2 analogue clocks are enough to give all your information ... honest, simple motoring.
Never thought yam would ride a tn board motorcycle
Really loved to see you in India 🔥🤙
Yam, just do street riding in peak traffic in India and post your opinion video, as an International rider you will feel like you are in a whole new world. Cheers 🎉
Stay tuned for tomorrows Video!!
@Tele_gramMe_OfficialYammie yo Yam, great video yesterday, riding in Jaisalmar. I would recommend you drive from Delhi onto Yamuna Express way. It will be positive for both worlds, you get to experience the peak traffic of Delhi as well as Express way of India. Cheers mate 🎉😊
I'm really looking forward to this bike at my local dealer. Thanks for the test rides and insight. I agree that the touring pack is the way to go!
I finally got rid of the heel-toe shifter and installed a toe only shifter from TEC bike parts USA, wonderful no more false shifting. Now if I could replace the Tripper for a TACH, it would be much more betterer.
I am pretty sure there will be an option to not have the heel shifter for the overseas models. They may never offer a heel shifter overseas.
Yammie riding an RE in India!! now that's a sight!!!😅😅😅, kudos and thanks for sharing!!!👏👏👏👏
welcome to inida, Happy to see this being a huge fan of you guys
Let’s hope they create a decent aftermarket exhaust!
I'm sure Hitchcock's Motorcycles in the UK will have something soon enough... :)
No pls... It's irritating as hell
This will be a perfect add on to my Himmy for the hi-way stuff.
Fucking aye, i thought i saw you out there. That helmet looked familiar.
I love the Heel shifter ,it is popular in Asia , Middle East and Europe but Americans don't know what they are missing...
So happy to see you in India, Hope you had a good time...
