The Eagles' version was the most famous but it wasn't the original. Steve Young wrote and recorded it in '69 on his Rock Salt and Nails album. His unique voice made the song special, imo. "Kenny's Song" from the same album is also worth a listen. Too bad Steve Young isn't more widely known.

Every voice in this group is unique and distinguishable, yet when they sing together, they sound so phenomenal. Each voice is in perfect balance with all the others.
I've loved them for years and stuck with them when Chris was replaced by Chance. However, with the newest guy, plus the fact that they actually did a lot of (as in overdoing it where it wasn't needed at all) pitch correction on a few songs on their more recent albums right before Austin left, I've stopped listening to them.

The original song was written and recorded in the late 60’s. The Eagles recorded and released it in 1980 and is the most iconic version of the song, in my opinion😁
Love Home Free. I’ve seen them live 3 times now and they are so good live too. The redhead (Austin) will be leaving the group in July. He is newly married and wants to stay home. He will be replaced by Adam Bastien. Beatboxer (Adam also) is an incredible beatboxer. You don’t miss instruments when you have Adam!😍😄
This song was first written & recorded by Steve Young in 1969 who was living in Montgomery,Alabama when he was inspired by a real road that crossed, you guessed it, seven bridges. Steve plays his original 1969 version with an acoustic band with a string orchestra on it, & it is slower, it never was intended to be an a cappella song. In 1973, on Ian Matthew’s album”Valley Hi” he did his version of this song with the opening first 50 seconds of the song done a cappella, which gave the Eagles the idea to do the beginning of the song a cappella. Many people have covered this song since 1969, but the Eagles version is by far the best version. Home Free’s is arguably a close second.
So the guys you are referring to are Adam Rupp (beat boxer beast), bass singer Tim Foust (tall drink of water) and Austin Brown (skinny guy with reddish long hair). Then Rob Lundquist (glasses and beard) and Chris Rupp (Adams brother and co founder of the group)! Home Fry for life! More Home Free please! BTW Austin Brown is leaving the group and they announced his replacement a few days ago! Check it out! 🤠
These men are the best thing to happen in music for the last 25 years, Re-makes - Yes...... but taking an original to a whole different level never ever hear before. Chills up your back and arms - PERFECT HARMONY unmatched by any group ever in modern history..... THEY ARE 1 OF A KIND !!!
Just in case artists don't think that your reactions spark sales; I'd never heard of Home Free, but after hearing this reaction, I just spent $70 on Amazon ordering their CDs. Word!
They have a huge number of videos on youtube. Not just videos like this but videos of this live show recorded by them and by audience members. They also have a lot of behind the scenes and non music recordings, like series called Home Away From Home, Home Free Eats 6 video where they tour favorite restaurants in the Nashville, Minneapolis, and southeast Texas areas, and From the Vault (26 behind the scenes of filming their music videos).
I love this song and they did a great job on this song. Home Free is my favorite group and I love to hear them sing. The harmonies are great. Adam the beatboxer is great 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
Actually, the Eagle's version is a cover. Steve Young, the songwriter, initially recorded it in 1969. It was recorded around 1974 by British singer Ian Matthews (of Fairport Convention and Matthews' Southern Comfort.) That album was produced by Mike Nesmith and may be where the harmony rich version originated. Young's original version is a spare folky arrangement.
This was so beautiful and epic! You definitely need to start reacting to Home Free more often. Any song sung by them is amazing, but the ones you, especially, need to react to are “Jump Right In” (their cover of a Zach Brown Band song) because it sounds absolutely amazing and beautiful, is one of my favorites, and is perfect for summer and “End of the Road” (their cover of a Boys II Men song) because it sounds absolutely amazing and is, probably, my favorite song sung by them. I'd love to go to a Home Free concert as well! I have no doubt that it'd be so amazing and epic!
Hey y’all! You gotta check out the newest Home Free video “Something to Talk About” introducing Adam Bastein as the newest member…great job! He will be their tenor as Austin (the red haired guy) left the group to spend more time at home with his wife and, hopefully, future family.
Exquisite unison with fabulous harmonies too!!!! Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is amazing, but hearing him sing is a great treat too❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ #HomeFree #AdamRuppSinging
Great selection y’all! You absolutely need to start doing Home Free reactions every month. Your next reaction should be “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” by Peter Hollens feat. Home Free. It is a U2 cover featuring their Patreon fans as the choir. It is a very unique music video that was filmed during the peak lockdown of the COVID pandemic. They did it as way to give back to their fanbase and help inspire people during that tough time. It will absolutely bring a smile to your face and introduce you to a new artist with an amazing voice that rivals Austin’s vocals. Can’t wait to see y’all’s reaction.
Another group who does some a cappella, swing, jazz, etc, is Manhattan Transfer, who've also been around for a few decades. Songs of theirs to check out include - operator, twilight zone, birdland, trickle, trickle, spice of life, chanson d’amour, the boy from new York city (a cover the Ad Libs song from the 60s)
Home Free is always a treat. If you haven't heard the Eagles perform this song, you have to check it out, even if just for yourselves. The Eagles are amazing.
The answer is yes, everyone does smile when they hear them, which is why we want you to do more of them. You should do MAYDAY, TAKE ME HOME COUNTRY ROADS, and GOD BLESS THE USA with Lee Greenwood and the US Airforce band.
Great reaction, guys. Definitely keep the #homefree coming. I don't think you've seen their recent version of Stand by Me. Austin And Rob deliver incredible solos and there's an amazing breakdown in their signature organ-like harmony that's quite an invention.
Glad you're getting to more of the acapella stuff! Home Free and Voiceplay are simply amazing. And those incredible deep bass lines from Geoff and Tim, OMG!!! Plus both beatboxers, wow!
Even with a new group singing it, I still can’t listen to this song without getting sad. 2 weeks before my HS graduation 38 years ago, a friend died in a motorcycle crash, and they played this song at his funeral
If you like acapella, you will love the trippy and timeless After The Gold Rush by Prelude. It’s a 1974 hit that was written by Neil Young. Beautiful haunting vocals.
@@StevenPyles Yes, They reacted to "Hotel California" and it was the first of their video's to reach 1 million views. They had to remove it long ago. But other reactors have reviewed the song and their reactions have stayed. Hmmmm! Makes me think there is more to this.
Agreed. The rich depth of the Eagles' harmonies is missing here. I usually love Home Free's arrangements, but I found the percussion distracting this time.
For Independence Day you should do Home Free's "Land of the Free". It's a great song. The video makes you wish you could hang out with them. And it's an original so the haters can't gripe in the comments about covers and original artists.
The Eagles version of this song, was released on their Live album from 1980. It was an acapella song that was a hit. But, at that time, the Eagles could do no wrong…
That's Austin with the reddish hair. He just left HF. They have his replacement, who I know from 7th Ave (Adam Bastien), another group Chris Rupp founded. Home Free is currently on tour. I've seen them in concert once, and they are just as amazing live.
The guy with the red long hair is Austin Brown he is a phenomenal singer. The deep voice is Tim foust I love his voice please please please please please check out the butts remix.
Tim Foust is their bass singer. He has a 5 octave range, so he can sing VERY low and VERY high. The singer you mentioned is Austin Brown who, unfortunately, is leaving Home Free, possibly as early as next month. No hard feelings, he's just tired of constantly being on the road and wants to start a family with his wife. Adam Rupp is the amazing beat boxer, he does all of the "sound effects" as well as vocal drumming.
Wait, wait, wait. This is news. I wish All the Best for Austin and his Family. He’s enriched our lives with sound and I’m sure we’ve enriched him in some ways too. So? Who is stepping in to grow more potatoes or is Chris gonna make a re-appearance? Ya know, ‘cause I ‘know them’ but don’t wanna be all up in their busyness like that but . . . Howdy neighbor, overhead you through the fence.
As many have already commented, this is an Eagles cover by Home Free. Also, Austin Brown (the long red haired guy) recently left the group to spend more time at home with his wife/family. He has some solo stuff. I highly recommend "At Last". He sings it in the same key as the original version by Etta James.
His originals give much more of a sense of what he's about, like If I met You Now and Love Me Like That. His solo career has really taken off, mostly country (eg Hers Aint Mine and Everything) but also more serious stuff, like Everlasting Ground and my favourite, She Loves Me. His version of Bring Him Home is pretty much the industry standard for the song. Austin is looking forward to life off the road but also to develop as a solo vocalist, which he couldn't do in the band.
Chance does solo stuff. He hadn't joined the group when this video was made. They recently started performing this on their live shows with their newest member.
I am going to be seeing them live for the 3rd time in October. To get a feel of the live concert watch "Sea Shanty Medley Live". You will love it! They are even better live.
Speaking of a cappella groups, on the gospel/jazz side, check out Take 6. They've been around since the 80s. Some of their songs are Moody's Mood for Love (I'm In the Mood for Love), Spread Love, I L-O-V-E U, A Quiet Place, Sailing.
Amber I DARE you to react to Joe Bonamassas Double crossing time in aThe British Blues Explosion 😅 If you ever do you might want to have the paddles ready to shock you back after your heart runs away with you 😅. It's absolutely beyond what anyone's mind can comprehend to see how he plays or shreddss in that song. It's not possible that anybody can play a Blues song and it's a slow song but his lead is playing so fast that you can't keep up with watching him.
I have seen them live 6 times! It is truely an amazing experience! So if ya get the chance to see them live grab it. You wont regret it. Luv the reaction! 🤙
Thats an old Eagles favorite and I was happy to see Home Free do it so well. Great reaction! Since you like their more country stuff, you should really check out their Moonshine video. I think its great but have only seen one or two folks react to it, and it features your guy Austin.
I grew up listening to the Eagles music & had their albums. They were known for their harmonies. I absolutely love this cover by Home Free. Their harmonies are so tight & the best in the business. And Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is awesome as usual. Also like the video showing 7 different bridges in Minneapolis. I can't believe all the negative trolling comments made. Home Free do awesome covers. But they also do a lot of original songs as 3 of them are songwriters.
Tim's bass gets me every time. It is sick! (Also love Ari's, when he used to be in Pentatonix. I haven't been as excited about what I have heard from him since he left.)
Austin Brown is my favorite in the group also. Breaks my heart a bit that he's leaving the group after about 11 years with them and more than 15 years on the road and sea (they found him on a cruise ship). At least I got to congratulate him on his marriage. The new guy coming in is Adam Bell-Bastien who is not really new to the group at all. He was with Home Free in their early days and may have been one of the original members, although I'm not sure about that last part. When Chris Rupp (the guy in the center with the cap on, the beatboxer's brother) left the group in 2016 he formed a group with his sister Tristin, Adam Bastien, and another young lady named Kelley Jakle, called 7th Ave (see their great video for Uptown Funk). Chris also did a video called Drinkin' With Me with Adam Bastien so I am somewhat familiar with him. I'm looking forward to seeing Home Free with the new guy this October. He's Adam (damn! That makes 3 Adams in the group now!) Bell-Bastien now and I'm gonna tell him I think his husband's a real cutie.
IMHO, Home Free is the best band working today in any genre. Their singing, harmonies & Adam's crazy beatboxing are incomparable. There's also a live video of them singing this song. BTW, they have around 300 videos - not including the live videos, solos, collaborations, side projects, "From the Vault" & "Home Away from Home" series. Umm - you're gonna need a lotta years at a few a month . . .
Another acapella group you need to react to is Pentatonix. Their range and variety are amazing. Their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody is the best I’ve ever heard. Their Christmas album is amazing too. Mary Did You Know, and Hallelujah are amazing. Sending love from sunny SoCal.
One that you HAVE to check out is one they did with Kenny Rogers before his passing, "Children, Go Where I Send Thee". And yes, it is billed as a Christmas song, but my goodness you will be toe tapping. IMO, it doesn't have to be Christmas to listen to it.
Still waiting for you folks to react to Clutch. You've been cheating yourselves for years if you're not listening to Clutch! If you like acapella, check out The Vinyls from the 80s. Amazing group! This is the type of music you play at a family cookout cranked at 11! Having a bad day, listen to Home Free and other Acapella groups. But Clutch is a must listen!
They announced that Austin ( long reddish hair ) is leaving the group in July and Adam Bastien will be taking his place. Adam B’s first concert with the group is July 31 at The Grand Ol Opry. Adam B is not new to Home Free he subbed for another tenor when Home Free first started and also he was a member of Chris Rupp’s group ( guy in the middle ) 7th Ave.
For some reason they arranged with Austin that he would tour with the band until the fall, then told him he was no longer wanted after July, then abruptly cancelled all his appearances without notice, so Bastien started in June. Very odd behaviour by their management. Austin loved the fans and got no chance to say goodbye.
I wanted to see Home Free live before Austin Brown (the redhead) left the group this summer. I traveled to Huntsville, Alabama in April and the show was terrific! If you love the Adam Rupp’s beat boxing, he did a solo that was like 10 minutes long. It was a bit long for my taste, but it was amazing.
I love the Eagles, and as much as I appreciate Home Free as an acapella singer myself, this time I prefer that version.
Me to just anit the same!

He hasn’t left yet he is leaving in July and Adam is taking his place. Adam’s first concert with Home Free is July 31
yes i know very soon, Adam Bell-Bastian is taking his place.
@@laurafoote214....yes...by all accounts Austin's last appearance with them will be in 6 days. June 25.
More HOME FREE!
Love this Eagles song! Ya’ll gotta check it out, even if you have to on your own! And of course Home Free is great! 🩶🤎🙂👍✌️
The Eagles version was a cover . Not actually writen by them
@@robertgreen6433 thx for the info 👍🏼 Still my favorite
Thats an old Eagles favorite and I was happy to see Home Free do it so well. Great reaction!
Since you like their more country stuff, you should really check out their Moonshine video. I think its great but have only seen one or two folks react to it, and it features your guy Austin.
Austin also arranged the song, as he has done with several of their songs. I love Moonshine, recorded in lockdown with all the guys at home.
While The Eagles had the best known version, it was Iain Matthews who did the vocal arrangement on his 1973 version of the song.
I'm for #HomeFree every month ❤❤
Every week!
@@justkaron 😆 I definitely agree with that!!
This song was also done by the Eagles
And The Oak Ridge Boys.
Yes. "Also done" is nearly an insult.
@@mikematusek4233 And my favorite version was done by "Ricochet". It's a good song to show off a groups great harmony!
Steve Young originally.
I loved seeing the Minneapolis bridges too! Couldn’t believe it when I recognized the Hennepin Avenue Bridge 😳😳
Tim's bass gets me every time. It is sick! (Also love Ari's, when he used to be in Pentatonix. I haven't been as excited about what I have heard from him since he left.)
Surprising, since Avi has been producing wonderful stuff. I prefer his voice to Tim's - less bullfrog.
Beautiful Minneapolis in the background....❤❤
That makes 3 Adams in the group now!) Bell-Bastien now and I'm gonna tell him I think his husband's a real cutie.
his wife, i refer her as Yoko Ono now
@@thorzzz1z Who are you talking about? Certainly not Amberly or Jerome.
I was referring to Jerome Bell-Bastien. I already got to praise Amberly to Austin.
I saw them and they are amazing.
Check out the live version of The Sea Shanty Medley. ❤
Love some more Home Free. Some song suggestions are Mayday, End of the Road and The Butts Remix.
The butts remix, for when you need some belly laughs!
Umm - you're gonna need a lotta years at a few a month . . .
Their version of Helplessly Hoping is pretty amazing.
What a great cover of the Eagles song.
The Eagles version was a cover too. But theirs is definitely the definitive and best version.
The lead singer of When a Man Loves a Woman was Austin Brown who's leaving the group
You have to check out end of the road
Their version of do u hear what I hear is my fav Xmas song
Stellar, amazing, magnificent.
It is so strange that they each seem they would skyrocket alone in very different genres but together they can tackle pretty much all of them.
They are awesome in concert!
Beautiful!!
The Original by the Eagles is A Must Listen!! This is good, the original is Amazing!!!
Mm. At this rate they'll have to rename HF as The Adams Family...
@@stevetournay6103 That’s what I said when Adam B was first announced 😂
For some reason they arranged with Austin that he would tour with the band until the fall, then told him he was no longer wanted after July, then abruptly cancelled all his appearances without notice, so Bastien started in June. Very odd behaviour by their management. Austin loved the fans and got no chance to say goodbye.
@@patriciamcl54it was Austin’s choice to leave please stop giving false information
The "red head" is Austin Brown. A couple of Home Free songs you might like are Mayday & Helplessly Hoping.
