I would absolutely love for Jordan and Amber to react to Dan Fogelberg’s “Same Old Lang Syne”. What a masterful storyteller and songwriter he was. Remember “Leader of the Band” and “Longer” and “Make Love Stay”? He died too young at 56 of prostate cancer in 2007.

    • @laziojohnny79

It's been sung in Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany as well. And I believe in some parts of France.
PS the melody is also the foundation for THE most popular song of Dutch fans supporting their national teams ('Wij Houden Van Oranje').

This song is from a poem written by Robert Burns in 1788, then based on a Scottish song from ten years later. Translated into our English it means old times, times long ago, for the sake of times gone by, etc. so we sing it to send off the old year and ring in the new year. 😁

On the deepest parts of the harmony, they are so thick because the baritone Chance is hovering just above bass territory to fill out the chords... with Tim's bass under it, the thickness of the low end with those two working together is amazing.

I really like the fact this group sang more of the verses as in most cases you only hear the first two being sung. The direct translation from the Old Scottish Language is “Old Long Since”. Over the years since the late 17 hundreds when this version started to appear Amber is correct in thinking it has come to generally mean “For Old Times Sake”. There are dozens of versions of the lyrics used and the original Scottish versions contains a lot more Old Scottish words.

Great reaction, and wonderful way to end the year! Home Free is excellent as are Pentatonix but I am urging you not to sleep on Voiceplay! Try "Valhalla Calling" for an unforgettable start to this amazing group!! Trust me, you have not heard deep yet . . . . . . .

Enjoy the ride of raising your children, because they will be grown and out on their own before you know it. From my experience time seems to fly by the older I get. I’m 72. Now I get to watch my grandchildren mature and grow. Auld Lang Syne speaks to the nostalgia of days gone by

The song is based on a poem by Scotland’s Robert Burns (17th Century? ). It has become a world wide New Year anthem. It loosely means “days of long ago” , and is about forgetting old grievances and offering a hand of friendship via a cup of kindness (a drink) .My Love is Like a Red Red Rose, is another poem which was later set to song and is really beautiful.

Happy New Year again, fae Andrew Erroch in Paisley, Scotland. This is of course a song everybody in Scotland knows very well, considering it was written by our very own Rabbie Burns of Ayrshire. I've never heard this version before though or anything from this band. Even though, it's probably not the worst version... they do go with the commonly misrepresented lyrics. It's almost there, but not quite. If you like this song and want to hear a proper version, you really should hear it from somebody Scottish. There's an interesting fact about this song that I discovered after meeting my wife from Thailand. Over there in South East Asia, they are very familiar with this tune, but they completely changed the lyrics and they use it for the end of term at school, after a long session or pretty much whenever there is a break up of a large gathering of some kind. I believe it was adopted by the Japanese, who took it from Scotland... and it spread from there. Æx 🙏

Thank you for doing this one. I really needed it. One of my best friends partner went to the ER right before Christmas. He hung on to ring in the new year with his love. Then he quietly passed away at 2 AM this morning. As one of the original listeners - before Amber - I thank you so much. It's been great watching you grow. Much love and happy new year 🎊
