Vince gill started writing the song following the death of country music singer Keith Whitley in 1989. He did not finish the song until a few years later following the death of his older brother Bob of a heart attack in 1993. Typically played at funerals.... hits me in the gut every time i hear this song!

He wrote an additional verse last year.
The lyrics to the new verse are as follows: "You're safely home in the arms of Jesus / Eternal life, my brother's found / The day will come I know I'll see him / In that sacred place, on that holy ground."

I can’t even listen to that song without crying my heart out. It was my father’s favorite. He had an incredible tenor voice and he’d sing it in church. Dad was a professional musician so in my view, no one could sing it better than he. I’m so happy to know that people are still enjoying this incredibly moving, uplifting song. ❤️

I have been in the Canadian Military going on for 20+ years, and like many others, I have had to bury more friends that I have served with than I thought I would ever have to. Stunning performance. Surprising how much Rob(the guy singing lead on this) sounds like Vince Gill. Vince did indeed start this for his close friend and Country singer Keith Whitley and couldn't finish it. Several years later when Vince's brother passed he was inspired to finish it and this is the ultimate result. An idea for something lighter for you! There is an old song from years ago by a group called Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs called "Little Red Riding Hood". Listen to the original then to a recent video from Tim Foust (the guy with the deep voice from Home Free) singing that song at his birthday celebration with his wife and a couple friends. Just search Tim Foust Little Red Riding Hood to find it. I would listen to the original first. It will make you appreciate Tim's version even more. Enjoy!!!

Home Free and Pentatonix both appeared on different seasons of the show "The Sing Off" and each won their respective seasons. Since you are already familiar with "Imagine" by John Lennon, you should react to their version. I also highly recommend "Mary, Did You Know?".

Try “ Can’t stop the feeling “. You can’t help but dance when you hear it.
“My Church” is a good one too
“ Home Free has an extensive catalog but it’s a fun rabbit hole to go down.Note. Head phones are needed for a better Home free experience

Watching the video of Vince singing this song at the funeral of his dear friend country legend George Jones, and breaking down and having to finish with a guitar solo because he was too broken up to sing...just devastating. Nive reaction, guys!

Home Free is one of the best acapella groups! You should review their version of Ring of Fire... it's amazing! Also their cover of "How Great Thou Art" will give you chills.

Every song is the best, but throw in some comedy.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer.
    Champagne taste.

This was my daddys favorite song. He made me promise to play it at his funeral. Its a beautiful song, it always makes me think of him.

If you're liking the acapella, then you should try out Voiceplay. Either "Boy Bands in 5 Minutes" or the Little Mermaid Medley.
