This is so beautiful but hard to listen to. Your heartfelt reaction just shows how deeply you feel the loss of your fellow servicemen and women. And it just reconnects all of us to feeling the losses in our lives. I can't get through this song without crying. Again, thank you for your service. Honest, heart felt reaction.

It’s a good one. The video was rough with the “older” man and his grandson. Hard not to cry. I loved the Amazing Grace in the middle. Good reactions SD. 😪

I really can't decide who I love better singing this song, Vince Gill or HomeFree. All I know is I cry every time I hear it. My mom lost her brother in WWII so I remember how scared she was sending my oldest brother off to Vietnam. Lucky for him and us he ended up in Okinawa. Such a beautiful rendition of an emotional song. 😢 Sorry for your loss.

I completely agree. The version at George Jones funeral is my favorite.it also makes me cry because we played this at my grandmother funeral

Excellent reaction. Vince's original version was played at my little brother's funeral, I couldn't listen to again for almost 20 years, until this one came out, such a beautiful song.

Never be embarrassed by being emotional - it's what makes us all human. This song (along with Brothers in Arms) always gets to me. It makes me sad for relatives I never knew (they died in WWI and WWII). Home Free's harmonies & Rob's sweet, soulful tenor make it so powerful.

Know that one was/is tough for anyone who has been in or lost anyone in the military. HF is especially good at evoking all the various emotions from joy and laughter to sadness, loss and pain.
While we may not enjoy experiencing the emotions, esp as men, we can appreciate the power of them.
    Thanks much!

Never apologize for a genuine reaction. HF's harmonies are unbeatable in this. There is a video of this song that does not have the distraction of the story - it is the 'Church Sessions'. If you feel you want to hear the song again, check that one out.

I feel your pain brother. I don't think many understand but I 100% understand what you are thinking and feeling. They will stay with us for the rest of our lives. As you know, we will never forget them. Our heart breaks everytime anything reminds us of them. It is tough but all we can do is tell everyone about them so they are never forgotten. Love ya brother.

Vince Gill started writing this song after Keith Whitley died in '89. The lyric "you were no stranger to the rain" was for him. (one of Keith Whitley's songs is "I'm no stranger to the rain")
He didn't finish the song until a few years later when his older brother died of a heart attack.
When he sang this at George Jones' funeral, Patty Loveless was singing backup/harmony with him and there were certain parts where he broke down and Patty took over lead and he added in as-libs when he could. He collected himself during the guitar solo and finished on lead. Wasn't a dry eye in the place.

Think I saw somewhere that Pattie is Vinces sister, do I remember correctly?

    • @Brirend
      @Brirend 7 месяцев назад

@@brucebannerman6848 No, Vince has described her in the past as his "little sister" but, they are not related. Patty is distantly related to Crystal Gayle and Loretta Lynn though.

I have listened to their rendition numerous times and tear up everytime. This is a highly emotional presentation that evokes ties to someone we have encountered in life and one can't help but become extraordinarily overwhelmed with a sense of sentimental and intense feelings. Home Free arrangement and presentation is spot on with this vocal and video performance!! ❣

I like Vince and Home Free's version. But Rob's voice touches me every time. There is so much soul and emotion in it. Sung so beautifully. Also the part of Tim Foust. And then that harmony, unmatchable. The video is also great, but even without this video, a tear rolls down my cheek.

I understand your feelings and allot of us have demons that haunt us but I find this song helps make sense of my feelings and lets me grieve a little. If this song don't touch you, you have no soul, From one vet to another hold your head high and know you made a difference.

Love Home Free, but this doesn’t come close to the original song as performed by Vince Gill.
