- Video on the Diagnostic P0449 with or without accompanying P0455, If vehicle does not pass this test after going through described steps you will want to look for a open in the circuit , short to ground or short to power. If no problems are found with circuit concern could lie in ECM. Please like and subscribe, I will be putting up more of these videos under the tag Angry Technician. Thanks and go fix something.
Excellent: been fighting my 2004 chev new 4.8 crate motor, with PO449, changed solenoid, checked all other system circuits, took lines off blown out with air, cancel code only to return after 3-6th start up then PO449, watched your video, all I can say is THANK YOU!
That's a good way to trick the ECM. Proves the circuit is good, and because it is, the ECM now believes the system is okay. ECM has read the light and it works so all is well.also proves the part is bad. Thanks for insight.
Mine had a broken power wire about a foot and half back from the 2 wire plug that went to the evap valve
Haven’t needed it yet but will be my go to video if I see this code, great test for those of us without bi directional scanner, thanks for posting
I replaces selinoed a new evap canister and a new gas cap on my Saturn vue xe 2.4l 2009 and I still get a p0449 I dnt know what to do I been driving it for month does the my car has a egr valve
great job. No fumbling with holding camera and good advice quickly without BS
+Robert Barnidge Thanks for watching hope it helps.
+He Who Angers You I just replaced the 50$ + solenoid and still have the same fault code po449, I did this before I found this article- any ideas
Steve Harper what year make and model vehicle do you have?
So could you pass smog if you just hooked up a light as you did in the video?
so if the problem still happens it means u have a bad circuit? does that mean i would have to replace the circuit wire from the car
Many thanks, very simple to follow.
youre welcome glad I could help
Where can you find a test light with the male end that plugs in? All the ones I'm seeing have probes on the end like a multimeter
First and foremost, thank you very much for the video.
I have a follow up question. Would fixing the cause for a P0455 code, ever clear the P0449 code?
As a little background, I first received the P0455 code along with a warning to check the gas cap, (with a P0650 code, malfunctioning indicator lamp, that has since gone away) and then a within two weeks, received the P0449 code. I have since got a new GM gas cap and I am waiting on the P0455 to clear, which I am very hopeful for as the check gas cap warning has finally turned off.
Thanks again for the video.
i hope this works, changed everything already and didn't go away
Great Information! I have a 2007 Avalanche. I have a similar problem, I have no problems starting the truck UNTIL I add gas (quantity does not matter) then it takes a few start cycles before it will start. Runs and starts fine until I need to refuel. I am throwing a Evap Code. I have replaced gas cap, purge valve and canister vent solenoid. Please Help!! I lost and so is the Dealer
Thanks Brent
Hi Brent, first off do you know the specific code that your vehicle is throwing?
Fuel pump maybe 🤔
Never sees the ground to rear vent does it share the same one as purge. Jerry
Hi im having the same code on my 2007 tahoe not only is the check engine light turn on but my fuel gauge is not working is that something that is related?
Did you ever figure it out??
Bro same thing I can’t find anything
if the solenoid is bad, will the ohm test across the solinoid terminals (when disconnected) show open circuit?
never checked it that way but next one I see, at least one a week I will check.
Yes
I’m fighting the P0449 and I replaced all the canisters and I tried the blow test to my hose and everything seemed fine. What could I do if the code keeps coming on on the second start up?
I just watched one that the guy did the blow test and then traced the wire back to the engine fuse box and the fuse was not making good contact. On an 07 Silverado, had the same diagram as I have on mine, it was the 4ws fuse on the left hand side.
Thanks for the tip trying it on a mine work truck
Hi Hello, I'm having the same problem with my Chevrolet Avalanche 2006, I already changed the Vent Valve Solenoid and the light engine went off but the code still appearing ( Power train P0449 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit ) I checked all fusses in my car but still can't find the problem.
Clear the code with the scan tool, or disconnect the battery for 5-10 mins.
EnergyZ6m Thanks a lot! The code went off after a couple of hours. I re-scan it again just to make sure and was clear of codes.
Your not alone
I have a 2010 Cadillac SRX with code P0449 and I purchased the vent canister and I have nowhere idea where it goes.Any ideas
Hey John thanks for watching buddy on that one the vent valve should be on the canister on the bottom of the vehicle. However I work in a Cadillac dealership I can not remember ever replacing a vent valve on an SRX. The more likely culprit on your SRX will be a purge valve which I have a video for if you search my videos and an easy way to check it to make sure that that is correct. Search for hard to start after filling p0446, p0442. May also throw a p0455. Good luck on the repair.
To the point..easy to follow..good quality...Great job! BTW...04 Avalanche 238k has never thrown a code than yesterday both P0449 and PO455 codes showed up. No driving or activity out of the daily grind. Do you think they are related or just coincidence? Thanks
His Largeness related to the p0449
Ok...So the 455 "IS" connected to the 449. Gotcha..thanks so much!
His Largeness related
HWAY, my 2010 Camaro started throwing codes P0446 and P0449. They aren't covered under the extended warranty. Do you have any ideas of what the issue might be with both the codes coming up?
+RocknRollInsomniac P0446 This DTC tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a restricted or blocked EVAP vent path that would cause excess amounts of vacuum to be developed in the EVAP system. With the purge valve open and the vent valve open, if the EVAP system vacuum goes above a calibrated threshold, the test will fail.An intermittent condition could be caused by a damaged EVAP vent housing, a temporary blockage at the EVAP vent solenoid valve inlet, or a pinched vent hose. A blockage in the vent system will also cause a poor fuel fill condition. An EVAP canister filter that is restricted can cause this DTC to set.on the P0449 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent Solenoid Valve Control Circuit. 95 percent of the time this is a canister vent valve concern and on the Camaro thats a job. replace the vent solenoid and check the vent hose to make sure a spider or a dirt daubber has not made a home in there.
+RocknRollInsomniac if its a GMPP extended warranty I would not see why not
+He Who Angers You The dealership called MPP, the extended warranty company, and they said it's not covered.
I have the same code p0499 tryin to location it on my dodge magnum 06 can tell me were it located on that car
I replaced the vent valve but the check engine light doesn't come off is there anything else that can be the problem.
I used one on my acadia changed out the starter, trottle, and 3 sensors and its still dors not want to start
Go the part store and let them clear the codes
I have a GMC Acadia with a P0449 code. Is it true that you have to drop the whole fuel tank to get to the vent valve? If so I'm screwed.
If it's a GMC Acadia it looks to be on top of the fuel tank you would be correct
I need help or a better explanation I guess.
What was the reason for installing the fancy test light jumper? You never referred back to it.
Was it just acting as a jumper wire?? Sorry if this is a stupid question. - I'm not familiar with troubleshooting?
it acts like the solenoid in the circuit. represents a load and will keep the light off and code clear if in fact you have a faulty vent solenoid. if you have a tech2 you can command the solenoid on and off and the bulb will turn on and off as commanded if circuit is good.
+He Who Angers You
I had the exact same question as Rich Geer. Thanks for answering!
Very informative video
Can you jump the wire and clear the code and bypass the canister completely? Would that cause a different problem or just trick the computer and work ok.
no circuit has to have the resistance (load) to represent the vent valve
Oh, ok. I'm just going to change it out. Thank you for the come back.
I have the same problem p0449 code for my 06 dodge magnum can’t seem to locate it can u help me out in tell me we’re it located at on them cars
Hi... I am ford diesel tech and in need of your assistance. I have a 2002 Duramax with a crank no start concern. It has only a crank sensor circuit dtc. No fuel leaks and I did perform the air bleed procedure several times to be sure of myself. The crank sensor was replaced and all crank circuit wiring was inspected for concerns. Any further tests I can perform without a scan tool?
I been fighting with p0448
thanks man ths work on impala...
Good shyyyyyyyyyyt my man
So the test light is just completing the circuit?
that is correct, acts as the load in the circuit
He Who Angers You What is the resistance value of your test jig?
would any test light work?
what is the style of test lamp you are using
thanks...bob...anything on toyotas?
If you have this problem your remote start will not work. On a 2008 Saturn Outlook is the purge valve solenoid in the motor compartment?
If you have any check engine light on in that car the remote start will not work
hip hip and all that rot. cherio!
Not a good explanation
I changed mine also but still have engine code P0449!?Could it be the solenoid on the engine? If so, how can I check it before replacing?Awesome video thanks.
Neil Williams where is the one located on the fuel line under the car 05 lecrosse csx 3.6
