I’ve thought about buying another Ute but my MQ Triton is so reliable, can’t trade her in when she never misses a beat. I’ve got the 6speed manual, only tow a camper trailer, don’t intend crossing the Simpson or the Canning Stock Route, just up the beach or along a dirt road so my triton is perfect for me.
Mates prado, same age as my pajero, 18 years, similar km, blew his engine, $16000 repair Bill. Pajero, never had an issue. I luv hear hearing Toyota fanboys telling me about their reliability. Too much Toyota koolaid.
What was the cause of the engine to blow? Overheat ? Bearing or piston failure? Was it due to poor service history? Not a common fault even though it's 18 years old
My work went from Prado to Pajero's. We ran 12 of them over 700k. Great drivetrain but shit steering racks and suspension. Also crazy servicing cost but the most bulletproof drivetrain I have come across. We aboused them as much as we could to go back to Prado's but they didn't give up. Mad respect for the old Pag.
In my opinion the 4M41 in the ML Triton and Pajero's is the best 4 cylinder diesel engine ever made. The 4D56 is the only "bad" engine I think Mitsubishi has ever designed
I bought my ML in 2007 and it is still going gangbusters! Love it but I have sold it to my son and I have the new MV which I love even even with that cursed driver vigilance system.
679,800ks on our ml work Ute and still hammering on. The 4d56 have a manufacturing fault with the block surface and Mitsubishi are still replacing them outside of warranty
@@ggbogo935 ok 1996 made 4*4 with over 500,000 on the clock and still running perfect.... And you would change a vehicle after such time. You my friend spent too much money on a vehicle that isn't capable
Have 2017 MQ and 180k now on it, firstly with the manifold it's not that hard to see if it's cracked, mine cracked at about 175k and Mitsubishi replaced it outside of warranty under good faith. Also had gearbox replaced for popping out of 3rd under warranty. I'm sure there are mixed experiences but every car has its issues and such good service from Mitsi goes a long way in my books. The recurring gearbox issues for some owners was because Mitsi's first go at remedy for the issue was new and improved internals and syncros in the same gearbox, problem was, it didn't fix the issue. Later they updated the design of the gearbox which solved the problem (not sure what they did but it seems to have worked). Customers that only had that problem later on got a whole new box under warranty (like myself) and so far (touch wood) going strong.
At least Mitsubishi handles their customers well - that goes far in helping people decide. Unlike Ford that has a history of selling lemons and leaving their customers in the lurch. Toyota Prado also has a lemon model around 2015 that cracks pistons and requires an engine replacement, but Toyota doesn't do it out of warranty.
Well, I've got an ml 07, and it's just clocked over 540000 km. It's still going strong, with the original engine and a gearbox, diff the only thing that is not original are the CVS in the universals and suspension with the Iron Man upgrade. and I'm always dragging my 14 ft trailer with 1600 kilo machine with tools daily. The keys with any vehicle make sure you do oil changes every 5 to 7000 especially if it's a work ute
my 17' MQ is wonderful, not had any issues when bought it second hand off a friend a year ago. truly underrated and half given a bad wrap coz of their history
Had our 2018 Triton since new and really have no complaints. Has done a four month half a lap towing a Dominator camper trailer with no issues and we really spent some time finding some out of the way places on some horrendous 'roads' and we usually take it camping most school holidays. It split the intercooler hose at 80 000 ks but, was no drama as it's a well known issue. Need to upgrade the suspension as it's still stock and very, very tired. Cheers!
I actually really like the Triton. I feel like they are a criminally underrated Ute. And the genuinely minor issues they have can be very easily justified by the price you can get em for. I’ve seen alot of the other utes out there have way more common, expensive issues and fundamental design floors than the triton for almost double the price second hand. I’ll be sticking with my GQ for a long time. But if I ever go to a common rail Ute. It will probably be a triton 🫣
I have had my 2015 MQ GLS since 2019. It has 190k on it. Never an issue with the gearbox. Apparently the main cause of the 3rd gear jumping out is because people drive with their hand on the gear stick and it causes the detent spring to wear prematurely. Had my steering wheel, rear main oil seal and alternator replaced under warranty. Intercooler hose split about 12 months ago and had my front seat fabric repaired as the bolster wore through. Have done heaps of off roading and towing our 2.8t van. Been a great vehicle. I do wish it had a bit more power and not as much of a bumpy steering feedback.
I just bought a second hand 2016 MQ Exceed. Coming from an old Landcruiser, to me the Triton feels like it has plenty of power haha, I know what you mean about the steering feedback though it'd be nice if there was a bit less of it.
Recently borrowed at MQ manual to tow with, towed 2.5 ton with ease up some very challenging hills, and was convinced to buy an MR. Glad I read the comments otherwise I’d be off to buy a DMAX based on his comments re manual.
@tomharding3126 they're great cars but they're exactly as you called it, a work car. They're so barebones that you're paying an extra arm and leg for anything that's considered a creature comfort. @@tomharding3126 only consider the Dmax because every other Isuzu we’ve had at work has easily done over half a mill kms worry free. Shame there’s no manual in the new triton

I never understood how much they bag triton interior, yet love the hilux.... ummm excuse me hilux is bloody dreadful dash display is worse and don't get me started on the screen just smashed into the dash like it was never meant to be there.
Cool that you mentioned the manifold cracking issue. We've seen a few of those. I would still get a 3.2 (4M41) Triton. Stil not sure about auto or manual. If it had a 5 speed auto like the later model 2.5 Challengers I would hands down go for an auto. I prefer a manual, but having driven so many autos as well as experiencing a handful of the manual counter parts... I can say the auto feels better. Doesn't feel like power dips when you change gears. Yes they have their issues, but when they are fixed they last a long time.
The Hilux seems like the last ute in the market, exclusive to an Automaker. The new L209 (Triton) will be a camouflaged Navara. Similar with the Ranger/Amarok, D-Max/BT-50.
Mitsubishi know of the problems with the 2.5ltr diesel and will replace the engine free of charge. As for gearbox, l have a mate whos on his 3rd trans in his Ranger, that not to mention a new engine, engine and trans ecu and flex plate replacement. All this in 3years. I also think your vid title is very biast, we all know you guy are all about nissan and toyota and clearly think everything else is crap.

@@4WD247 Not true. There's countless third or fourth hand MNs copping replacement engines. The thing is manufacturers are still bound by consumer law's reasonable expectations of durability, whether it's owned by the original purchaser or not. But then that's the other thing, the 4D56 is renown as being faulty from the outset requiring an extended "goodwill" warranty, and that alone is enough to keep me away from them.
4:41 You do realize that you can actually get a free manual gearbox replacement from Mitsubishi right? My parents 6 sp manual MQ triton had the same problem popping out of 3rd gear. Car was out of warranty but Mitsubishi still replaced the gearbox for free of charge as it was a very common problem. They installed a 6 sp MR gearbox instead and it's been good since. Even if you purchased the car second hand, or it's out of warranty, Mitsubishi will still swap the transmission for you.
People having trouble with the superselect is because they never use it. Dads MR died after 300000km. Needless to say, Mitsubishi got wind and replaced it free of charge because it lasted so long. That truck has not had an easy life, which is probably why it lasts so long.

I would have got one of these if we had them just because of the warranty. I might when I get a setup in the Philippines just because they are a dime a dozen there. It is unfortunate that you guys have to spend big bucks to get a proper tow pig and maintain a truck license. In the U.S. if you aren't over 11.8kg you are golden. I see why guys here are selling our old rigs and shipping them there. The type of stuff ya'll drive we put on trailers and tow to the trailheads.
The cloth seats in all gens of L200 are absolutely horrible. Aside from looking and feeling cheap, the fabric on driver's seat starts falling apart within few years. The back seats don't fold back. Why ?
The Front Seats are prone to colapse and damage and because of the Airbags aftermarket fixes arent easy. The genuine parts are horrendously expensive to fix.
Budget price to buy at the time so yeah, you'll likely get some quality issues however, I've had my 2017 MQ GLS from new as a tourer and it's been fab!
My mq triton wasnt the best. Bought second hand and ended up dying with 310k…. Some issues were 3rd gear and 5th gear syncro, exhaust manifold, DPF blocked, EGR cooler fail, injector Black Death, excessive oil contamination from failed burns, ended up with a full top end rebuild and a heap of other parts and coin spent fixing it up only to have an injector blow #1 piston. Lots of little issues like seats worn out and steering wheel flaking, paint fade etc… Thrown the whole car in the bin. Couldn’t tow very well even fully unloaded. Would never buy a baby 2.4 again. Upgraded to a Jeep with a Mercedes 3.0 v6 CRD and it’s so much better on so many levels and cost 1/4 of the price of the triton. Taken them both around AUS and the jeep is hands down better. The Triton has its place for softroading and going up the beach and to the shops… but not for towing or anything serious.
The main issue I see with the triton for 4wding is the large rear overhang behind the rear wheels. This is probably an issue and reason to why they bend the chassis.
@FlatBrokeAdventures yeah of course, but the triton is no worse than other dual cabs off road. Slightly longer rear over hang makes a negligible difference lol. Dont want your triton, rangerlux, patrolcruiser, dmax, bt50 etc to bend the chasis? Don't overload and flog it off road lol.
i used to have a triton i mean i still do but the only thing thats mitsi is the shell it now has 700 bhp 1000ftlbs of torque and 4link suspenison trophy truck style
Every 4x4 diesel engine should do 300.000km easily. After that you can compare the brands for reliability. If it didn't make it to 300.000 it is not a well build engine/vehicle
Hi all Looking for some buying advice from V6 Owners. Found what looks to be an awesome deal. 2007 4.0 V6 DC with 278k KM's. Full service history with books. Checked out the vehicle and the body looks very nice, no damage to underside so presumably no heavy off-roading. Drives well too. Brakes are a bit spongy though. One pinch point for me would be that there is a map on the vehicle for better fuel consumption, wanting to know if that will have any adverse effects on the engine? Also a long range tank fitted. Any valuable input would be useful and much appreciated, thanks a ton.

MR GLX+ here with 6 spd manual and _factory_ rear diff lock. Only issue I've had is noisy rear spring shackles. Lubed them up and no more noise.
wheres the lemon model, i didnt see a ranger.

@Flying_GC everyone I know who has the new ranger has had dramas with it, legit lol.

Great mate!
Still running my MN, just clocked over 210km and going strong. No problems as of yet
Same here just clocked 370,000 and still no Major issues

@@billmccarthy5920 luckily..you don't want 1... under powdered and 0 spare parts 4 them...
100% mate, one of the best diesel engines ever put in a passenger vehicle...
Absolutely bulletproof..
I bought my ML in 2007 and it is still going gangbusters! Love it but I have sold it to my son and I have the new MV which I love even even with that cursed driver vigilance system.
The common rail one yes, mechanical one is bulletproof
Best common rail diesel ever made, my 2006 ML 3.2 has 468,000km and no signs of slowing down
679,800ks on our ml work Ute and still hammering on. The 4d56 have a manufacturing fault with the block surface and Mitsubishi are still replacing them outside of warranty
I will never give up my MJ Triton.. 😊 over 500000 km from the clock and still running
I've got an MJ too. It's a tough old ute 💪
yeah but you have to tell people you drive a triton. that alone would make me want to switch to a real mans truck
It's still going strong, with the original engine and a gearbox, diff
the only thing that is not original are the CVS in the universals and suspension with the Iron Man upgrade.
and I'm always dragging my 14 ft trailer with 1600 kilo machine with tools daily. The keys with any vehicle make sure you do oil changes every 5 to 7000 especially if it's a work ute
my 17' MQ is wonderful, not had any issues when bought it second hand off a friend a year ago. truly underrated and half given a bad wrap coz of their history
Had 2 tritons now, and yeah, just pick your year and model right and can't beat the value for money.
Mr triton is the priest model and become the Thailand extreme off-road endurance champion
Got one with 3.2 diesel 2007 , it goes good .at 293kays , it’s goes fine , it’s just a Ute , it works
MR Triton GLS delux, the best vehicle i have ever owned, and cheap enough to not need a house deposit to buy it and kit it out.
Yeah I got the GLS standard as I dont like leather seats sticky in the heat. Never missed a beat never got bogged as a first time 4wding
Mr GLS also has a rear locker not just the GSR
Yep, same with the GLX+

I don’t get the D-Max love I’ve had 2 as company cars neither have been great🤷♂️
@tomharding3126 they're great cars but they're exactly as you called it, a work car. They're so barebones that you're paying an extra arm and leg for anything that's considered a creature comfort. I have a 2023 bt-50 for comparison since they're near the same car and I just don't get how Isuzu are charging as much as they are for a mid range when the Mazda is a lot further on in bits and bobs for cheaper.
@@tomharding3126 only consider the Dmax because every other Isuzu we’ve had at work has easily done over half a mill kms worry free. Shame there’s no manual in the new triton

The manual third gear issue is usually covered under warranty
It's not as bad as you maķe out
It's when it's out of warranty & second hand when you don't get dealership swaps like that!
@@4WD247 Incorrect. Even out of warranty or second hand, Mitsubishi will still swap the transmission. Parents had it happen on their 6 sp MQ. Car was years out of warranty. Mitsubishi still replaced the transmission completely free due to being a common known problem with MQ manual transmissions.

The 4m41 3.2 found in ML model was the best engine thats been in a Triton
They won't replace it if it's second hand though mate - a lot of warranty is voided after that & after some time.
We might drive a lot of Nissan and Toyota's but you'd be surprised how many of us drive other rigs too! We love a lot of other brands, we just haven't had the opportunity to show them yet.
@@4WD247 Perhaps you should change your name channel name to Toyota/Nissan fangirls until you do actually start showing a few others. At least Jock had the balls to try a Landie, even if it was just for a money making raffle.
@@4WD247you do seem to bag everyday 4x4’s a lot. The Nissan and Toyota love is getting ridiculous.
I hope you're not thinking it's good that Mitsubishi was prepared to fix the issue that they created. Wish that was the case in the nineties.
100,000 km on my MR Triton manual- not a single issue. Just a bulletproof car. User experiences speak for themselves…

2014 MN, did blow a head gasket but mitz replaced engine free of charge. Ute is amazing otherwise

Our 2018 MQ Triton Blackline had third gear slip(pain in the ass)And leaks in hoses ...Now have a Toyota and its soo good....
@@FlatBrokeAdventures neh, not a thing mate
@@CarbonEternity having the back fully loaded and having most of it behind the rear axle is certainly an issue

Hi all
Looking for some buying advice from V6 Owners.
