  • Nothing can frighten a Triton! I take you through Mitsubishi's best selling Ute, and the ML / MN Tritons in particular. What to look out for buying used in Australia, what upgrades and mods you can perform etc.
For offroad bound utes, I highly recommend a Lift kit, a Locker, plus an Oil catch can and EGR Blanking plate for the Mitsi diesels. Exhaust and Chip / Tune is also a good mod if you can afford it.

I found this surprisingly accurate. I've had my MN for 2 years now. Throttle controller helps a lot, but I only use it when I need to as it does suck a lot more fuel. Only thing to watchout for with the MNs is head gasket failure and overheating. Mitz does replace them under goodwill warranty, (even for a car like mine at 10 years old) as it was a manufacturing failure. downside is looks to be a somewhat common issue with them. Otherwise amazing car.

Is that the 4D56 without the upgraded cooling system? coz I heard that some of the older MN models had that issue but from 2011 onwards, which is what I have, had an upgraded cooling system

@JyWalker1603 I have a 2011 GLXR and the head cracked at 60,000. After a battle with mits they replaced it. Cars at 225,000 now still running good!

I love the Triton, but bloody hell those MNs have got to be the most hideous utes ever created. The MRs really do look great with some bar work.

Stock I agree, but I reckon once done up a bit with a decent bullbar and big fat muddies the MN is one of the meanest looking rigs out there.

Do away with the tailshaft centre bearing all together by having 1 piece tailshaft instead

heard of water leaks in the seam of the roof gutters where it rolls down at the back? had a fingernail width crack in the sealant?

Yeah definitely pays to check that one, and if in doubt, use some sikaflex to seal up any cracks
