I'm surprised by some of the negative comments but it's true if you don't take care of any vehicle it's gonna have issues, and as for design, it's subjective because different people like different things.
Triton has been around since the 1970's and for good reason, it's really tough, it's reliable and has an excellent and unique 4WD system.
I know of someone who's owned the past four generations of Triton and he's about to upgrade to the all new generation and that tells me a lot.
Also my son owns this shown model, and for the past two years he's not had any issues at all, not even with multimedia system, not yet anyway.
Our personal experiences have been very good and the same can be said for our local Mitsubishi dealership.
Those that are threatened are haters, so haters are gonna hate.
    Nothing frightens a ( humble ) Triton
Nothing pretentious here, no tarted up Rangers, or overpriced and very old Hilux's either.

As Triton owner of the last three generations with not an issue, they are a great reliable truck. I drop my oil myself every 6 months and dealer does it at 12 months for warranty purposes regardless of klms money in the bank with Castrol 5w30 C3. Bullet proof drive train. Money was not my issue when buying a ute it was knowing what i was getting.

I work at a dealership that sell Toyota and Mitsubishi!
They sell more Mitsubishi due to the fact that they are much cheaper than the Toyota equivalent but are still a great car/ute and are very capable off road.
Their warranties are better than Toyota also.
Same goes for Mitsubishis smaller cars, the dealership sells more ASX and Outlander than what Toyota sells Yaris and Corolla!
Mitsubishi has always been a good brand.

As an Ex mitsubishi tech. Yeah the infotainment is shit but if you think the SDA2 (as shown) is bad the covid fitted Mi-Display is worse, the sunglasses holder is usually covered by warranty for premature failure and the auto locking can be disabled with a standard scan tool but just ask the dealer nicely. My pick of Tritons is anything post October 2020 when they had the 10/10 warranty, just make sure services have been done on time and mileage by a dealer.

Interesting to hear the issues of cracked heads etc - I work in mining and we started switching to Tritons about 18 months ago as our existing Toyotas have needed replacing, mainly because it was taking much longer and costing too much to get hold of Toyotas (LCs and Prados), while the Triton could be sourced and fitted out to mine spec pretty quickly and cost effectively. Because we operate in a hyper aggressive environment (heat, tropical, mud, coastal, extreme terrain) we don't keep LVs all that long (accelerated corrosion the big killer). So far the reports on the Triton have been solid but will be watching to see if we get any premature mechanical issues emerging before they reach their expected hours cut-off.

Had my 22 GLS since new. I absolutely love it, it’s traction control system is fantastic off road and it’s a nimble mountain goat on the tough tracks. Only negatives are the headlights are definitely shit and it’s a bit laggy down low. It’s solid on road but more impressive off road. I’ve driven most 4x4 Utes and the triton is definitely no disappointment.

I also have a 22 GSR, now with about 60,000km. I have experienced some of the issues highlighted. My sunglass holder has already been replaced under warranty. The paint is not too bad but it does scratch easily. I tow a caravan on road trips. My caravan has a GVM of 2.5t but it was weighed at 2.3t with all our gear in it. The Triton weighed 2.5t with 2 adults on board and all the gear. It tows okay but i wouldn't tow anything heavier despite the 3.1t tow rating. The rear shocks had to be replaced at 45,000km and I am about to fit stronger rear spring despite being well under weight specs. Mechanically, it has been very reliable and Mitsubishi have been great to us. We also have a 2010 Pajero with 370,000km with no issues. We have owned it since new and my wife won't let it go. Hopefully, the Triton will last as long as the Pajero.

Back in 2007 I purchased an ML Triton, basing my decision on price and specifications. I drove all the other brands and the short list was Triton and Hilux. I went with the Triton because I considered it to be almost as good as the Hilux for 75% of the cost. I purchased and fully kitted out my Triton with bar work front and back, canopy, roof rack, suspension and tyres for the same price as purchasing a SR5 Hilux. I Had the Triton for 10 years and had no problems. The ML had the shorter tub so it had much less rear overhang and this was the only reason I never replaced it with another MQ or MR Triton….the wheelbase just looks too short for the tub. The only thing I didn’t like about my ML was steering wheel kickback on rough roads.

I have a 22 GSR and love it. A close friend of mine also bought one at the same time. Love them. I'll agree about the paint and headlights, a bit poor. I disagree about the head unit though, never had a problem. I love the ride. For work (a tradie) in the last 12 months I've had a D max (hated it, and the head unit was so bad I actually backed into something because the screen was so dim I couldn't see behind me), a new Triton (yep. Loved it just like my own), and recently I've started a new job that has given me a Hilux, and I don't hate it, but I'm not really fussed with it either. It's just a ute. But again, the head unit is pretty crap.

I drove one as a work car, wasnt terrible however i found the brakes to be really squeaky and the phone connectivity with a cord was really hit and miss.
The air conditioning in south australias summer, is boderline non existant and the interior space could easilly be used by dominos to bake pizzas for the 45 minutes it takes for the AC to cool the vehicle on 40+ degree day.
The headlights, i swear to god the low beams on a MR triton are the equivalent of the parkers on my BA falcon, just useless, and in the country / rural areas, downright dangerous. You will need spotties added that have a low/high mode, and at least 4 of them.
Do not tow anything over 1.5 tonnes. Their "towing ability" is grossly exaggerated. My car trailer with a car on it, can barely be pulled down a flat 50 zone street with an MR. My Ba falcon will tow it at 90kmh effortlessly (proper big power motor in the falcon, unlike the MRs matchbox 4 cyl with a turbo small enough for a chainsaws engine)

Mitsubushi no longer trade here in the UK, shame because the L200 and shogun/Pajero were well regarded work horses. Do you get the Ssang Yong (KGM) Musso or Rexton in Oz, likely worth a review? These seem good value, and a lot of the few owners in the UK seem to like them, although parts cost can be high with long lead times. They are not common here due to badge snobbery and lack of awareness. Ssang Yong or KGM as they are known now can take the place of Mitsubushi here if they are wise with marketing.

We have a 22 GLS. We like the car, but not the service department. This is going to be a long comment. The car is generally fine, suits our needs of moderate off-road, towing a 2.5t van cross country most of the time. Good value for money is the main reason we bought one, then no wait time during COVID the second, super select II 4X4 the third, 10yr warranty is AMAZING (you will see). The performance is a bit down on other Utes, but like I said "it meets our needs most of time". Then there was one time it did not. We had a trip to Jindabyne last summer towing our 2.5t van departed from Melbourne. It struggled going up steep hill towing our 2.5t van, not that there wasn't enough power to pull, but rather the factory cooling system is not adequate to handle prolonged higher revs (3000rpm) at lower speed (40km/h) in hot weather (30C+). You really need to keep an eye on the temp and prepare to pull over and stop at a suitable spot. The temp will go up soon, and once it reads just one notch below the overheating red zone, you need to pull over immediately, at that point the coolant is already at boiling point. We did stop once to let the engine cool down then continued without further problems. To be fair, it is not the car's fault, just it is not designed to continue prolonged heavy usage in harsh conditions. In term of quality, a bit hit and miss, some electrical issues with parking sensors and cameras, they still work, just a bit temperamental some times. In term of dealer service, SHXXXT, that's all I can say (Yep, I'm going to start). We had two annual services so far, done at a dealer in the western subs of Melbourne. First time, leaked diesel over half the engine bay (yes, the diesel filter was changed, but still it shouldn't have diesel over almost half the engine bay, even on the engine cover and firewall, especially the filter is easy to access at top left corner), then I found a forgotten screw driver left next to the engine (0_0), last the service report stated brake flush with new brake fluid which I highly doubted because all four bleeding screw caps appeared to be untouched, still covered in dust and road grime (maybe there is another way of bleeding brakes without touching the bleeding screws?????). Second time, service was ok, but we had a warranty repair on those intercooler hoses (leaking !!!!!! Yeah!) which went bananas. Right after getting car back from dealer, we went for an overnight trip, as I accelerated down a freeway entry ramp, a loud fan blowing noise suddenly appeared. Then car lost power, engine would not accelerate past 1500rpm, put foot down accelerator, big wind blowing noise, engine cut back to idle when hit 1500rpm. Luckly there was an exit not far, and it was down hill, I made a split second decision to get off freeway, cut cross in front of a police bike to get off, limp home (engine could not go pass 1500rpm, can slowly accelerate to about 50km/h). Once home, opened bonnet , straightaway, I can see the post intercooler hose had popped off (0_0), it was not tightened properly. It is scary even to look back at those few seconds. We could had a serious accident, basically we were a sitting duck in 80km/h traffic going down hill. Called dealer to complain, only offered a few hundred dollars store credit (Seriously Mitsubishi? Offer rejected). Now I'm seriously considering to never step inside a Mitsubishi Service centre again. Forget the 10yr warranty, I might not last longer than that if they keep stuffing up.

Very, very strange driving position. I find myself with my left knee kind of scrunched into the transmission tunnel and my body all crooked. Build quality isn't great. Nothing but problems with the infotainment system. Carplay works intermittently. Mitsubishi demands I take video of it failing while I drive somehow. Auto braking system seems to regard steep hills as cars. Pretty crap car. Oh, and the sunglass holder won't close. Car has 30 thou on it.

@@rileyrichards844 Yeah, this car has a ton of little things wrong that add up to failure. There is no space in it. I'm just off 6 feet tall and can't seem to find room for my left leg while driving. Rear seats barely fit my kids. The windscreen fogs up constantly. The rear window demister takes forever. It hasn't locked up the brakes on me yet, but I get warnings from dips in the road, and I've heard a mate of mine almost headbutted the windscreen while driving up a curb. Pretty unimpressed. Spend a bit more and get a good car I reckon.

90% of problems with Triton are caused by the owners attitude towards their cars. It’s a light off-road vehicle. Expecting it to win a drag race at the lights, or do a winch challenge is just dumb. And bolting a heap of shit to it doesn’t make it any better able to do those things.
What it does do is make you look like a flog and gives Mitsubishi the perfect excuse to deny any warranty claims.

Been to the USA they don’t have utilities probably because the drivers found they don’t need fit in them. Oversized and useless trucks. Like most Australians. We have fallen into being pseudo Americans. Buy a VT/VU Holden utility the HQ of this century then you have everything needed in a car and real ‘utility’.

Imma go ahead and say id buy a hilux because i like Toyota and ive seen near every model of fourby even hilux’s break from being a mechanic up in cape York, yes i saw more Toyotas in the workshop over other models but that’s because everyone in town owned a Toyota because they where less likely to have things go wrong over other models and every tourist I’ve seen come in had rangers, bt50s, tritons, d-maxs, Colorados, and an amarok I’ve seen one with a blown up motor so yeah that doesn’t give me much confidence in them. But in saying that I’ve seen the odd hilux, Land Cruiser and Prado come in and less problems then the rest and they where easier to fix over the other models and my own personal experience with Toyotas, it’s easier to stick with what I’m use to and have the most trust in, like I’ll trust a hilux with over half a million kms on the clock to take me around Australia over another model of duel cab with nearly 300,000 kms on the clock, this is of course my opinion others will have different opinions from their own experiences but going off mine I’m a Toyota man though and through
