    Nice job. Mine has no screws, too. Remote always accumulate crude over the years and button contacts can get dirty, too. This is the way to give your remote a tune-up!

    Thank you!!!! Ugh... my 5 year old daughter thought it was a good idea to stick the end of the controller in her mouth while she had a mouth full of juice..... then wondered why the tv kept pausing and playing over and over.... just got the controller open and yeah the board was all wet.... going to clean it with alcohol, let it dry and hope for the best. Thanks for the video!! I subscribed to you!! Much love from a mom in Canada👍

    Thanks helped out, There is actually an open slot at the bottom end of the battery compartment , its easier if you start there and pry your way up towards the front of the front. Much easier.

    Hello, thanks for this, I just spilled a bottled water on my Roku remote! This may help, I just watched a video where the guy sprayed the contacts ( where the batteries go ) with WD40, this allowed him to take the outside shell apart in seconds. He then used a short handed flathead to pry it open.

    I found an even easier way to open it up that has less potential to damage the printed circuit board. Use a flat head screw driver to wedge it starting from the bottom of the remote inside where the batteries were. Once the screw driver is wedged in, you can start wedging around the board from the bottom up, but keep your wedging symmetrical, such that if you wedge the left side, wedge the right side also before going up further. This will reduce the likelihood of breaking anything. Another thing to keep in mind when doing this is that you don't want the screw driver to go too deep into the remote because you risk dislodging parts that shouldn't be.
    I used this method and cleaned the grease off my remote with dish soap, a toothbrush and water. Then dried it all with paper towel and air. And now its back to new working order. Remember not to get water on the side that has the electrical components (resistors, capacitors, chips, etc), because the chips could trap moisture for a long time.
    P.s. I'm an electrical engineer

    • @vernthejackofalltrades228
      @vernthejackofalltrades228  Год назад +1

      Yes, very important not to damage any internal parts. I agree with the procedure.

    Thank you for doing this video it was very helpful for my rechargeable remote that was apparently dead on arrival. A couple months after getting the remote I needed to charge it but it never charged. I think the battery inside is dead so with your handy tutorial I was able to get inside my remote but I'm still not sure what's wrong with it. Anyone else know info about the Roku voice remote pro dead battery inside them? I've seen many users say their remote will not charge either. I would love to salvage the remote because the shortcut buttons for netflix, hulu, and Disney I actually have so I would love five shortcut buttons with the two programmable as well perhaps I actually use but the remote will not charge.
    If anyone has any good info on The voice remote pro rechargeable battery not charging and how I can easily replace it or if I even can please let me know. I'm trying to find research on this but Roku is such a popular brand name it's hard to find accurate information about this specific problem. It was hard enough just to find this video. The main problem of getting inside of it when it has no screws has been solved but what do I do from here to change or replace this dead battery. Please help if anyone can.
    EDIT/UPDATE:
    An hour after seeing this video I cracked my remote open, had to look around, all the connections seem to be fine but it still will not charge. The battery seems to be stuck with adhesive, padding etc to the board of the remote. Not exactly sure what kind of battery it is. My completely remove whatever adhesive it is taking the risk open to pinpoint what exact battery type is needed. Not sure if it's proprietary or one that can be replaced from Amazon or something. I would still love to know what exact battery type it is if anybody has this information. At the moment it's looking like no hope but in the next few days I will probably get around too investigating its battery more at the risk of irreplaceably damaging the board. It's a coin flip at this point whether I'll be able to acquire enough info about the correct replacement battery needed. Hopefully it's printed somewhere on the actual battery if I can get it unstuck from the board.
    I saw a lot of people posting that the battery would not charge and was dead completely. I know many others have had the same problem. Apparently they had a bad batch of batteries but I've not seen anyone post if there's a way to fix this. Most people probably give up scene no visible way to open the remote cover. People like Us however and figured out a way, still need more info on that battery though.
