Unplugging and plugging the Roku back in worked for me thanks!
Thank you SO MUCH! Just found my Roku remote after almost a year, changed the batteries, and could not activate Roku. So I unplugged my power and replugged and VOILA! Roku alive and well and ready for use. Thanks again! (I know, I know. Unplugging should be the first thing I try on just about ANY electronic device but I didn't, so thanks for the reminder!)

That little button inside the remote fixed my problem. My ear wired buds stopped working. It looked fine on TV as it showed the volume icon when put together but I could hear nothing. Batteries too weak is the most common problem I have had when a Roku remote doesn't work unless Roku freezes. In that case the solution you mentioned of resetting by unplugging the power solves the problem. A new remote needs to be paired as you stated but that is usually a one time thing when it is new.
I have a Roku remote that charges up so no batteries. So I did everything, like unplug and reset but still not working. Then I remembered an old trick with old remotes years ago where you press every button on the remote. It worked! I fixed it!

All remotes use batteries now. Some use rechargeable batteries. The only remote I have ever seen that didn't use batteries was a very early zenith remote that came with a 1970's Zenith TV. It worked by the button striking a tone bar inside the remote to make a tone the tv recognized. This meant the button would have to be pushed once for each channel or volume change so if you wanted to go from channel 5 to channel10 you had to push the channel up button 5 times. volume was the same. Each push would only change the volume a little. Holding the button for changing the volume or channel change worked the same as pushing the button one time. Probably the reason they didn't use that type of remote on very many tv's

It turns out you can do a “reset” more or less on the basic remote (for the rokustick) by pushing the back button and home button at the same time for about five seconds. There will be a little green light right next to the power button that will start flashing. The green light will quick flash 3/4 times when the remote has reconnected.
Unfortunately I had to reset my Roku stick, but it didn’t change much. Because I have more than one Roku tv I was still signed into everything, including the app.

After messing with this for 10 minutes, I unplugged it let it sit for about five seconds, plugged it back in, and it worked. Yay
Do not shake out batteries from your remote like this @1:12! Push the battery, with your nails or any tool, on '+' end toward '-' end and lift the '+' end. There is a spring at '-' end that allows that.

If you look at a single battery you’ll see that there’s one side ( - ) that has a spring and the other side ( + ) doesn’t, push the positive side’s corner down toward the negative side’s spring and the battery should come out fairly easily.

OMG, thanks for this. Was driving me crazy. The App download worked as a last resort, but then I was able to reset the green light, rebooted the stick and it paired up again.

try new batteries and try the reset button on teh roku usb and make sure nothing is blocking the "remote receiver" and that little button on the rear of the remote might help pairing...good luck, nothing was working, so I said, ok new batteries and GD it that was it.

Had to do a factory reset because I've bought 3 remotes now and nothing works. I have a TCL 50S451. I can turn tv on from bottom power button but none of the remotes work. Any suggestions. When zi turn on the screen is waiting fir me to setup like it's a brand new tv, but remotes won't do anything. This model has no therapy buttons except for power.
Ok guys. Remove the power source from Roku device for at least 60 secs. After 60 secs, turn the power on Roku. When the Roku powers on, insert the batteries back in remote. It should start working.

Holy c*&p! A few weeks ago my rechargeable Roku remote began skipping in guide and other similar functions after over a year of seamless functioning. Tried many resolutions offed from the net and other RUclips videos. I tried the first item you advised to do, unplugging the roku power source while TV was off and that simple fix WORKED 😮💨😮💨!

For us that have CHARGER version I tried this:
On the back & lower part of remote there is a button about the size of a small pea. Press on it for at least 20 seconds. I tried it and it worked as it got the green light blinking again!

I have a Roku Ultra in basement and and a Roku Express upstairs. I bought two new premium remotes that are rechargeable. While Using the one remote upstairs I could here sounds from the basement tv. Are the remotes not able to control one Roku box only? Are the boxes taking commands from each remote?

I bought 4 - 4k units. All of the remotes do this! I tried repairing the units and they still don't work. I will be returning the units. Waist of NF time!

You didn't address the rechargeable remote. I've used a paperclip (straightened) to poke in the tiny hole under the red power button. This was a fix for a couple of days but it is back to no longer working. Any suggestions?
The battery coils had some buildup on them. I wonder if that caused my Roku to mess up
No one seems to talk about the problem I am having. I have 2 tvs. Both roku remotes. When I first hooked them up things were fine. Have figured out how to fix most of my problems. We watch Spectrum most of the time. When we pull up the guide, the numbers were in sequence. My husband had hit the wrong buttons. I have tried resetting the remote. I can not get numbers in order.
None of these worked, it wasn't the remote, it was the Roku Stick. For what it costs to replace the remote itself ($29.95), you'll be better off replacing the entire setup for $10 more.....
The back sider of my remote is one piece so how do I get the back off. It has been impossible for me to remove it. It seems like Roku needs to go back to the old remote for changing batteries.

The last update on my old 4630x Oct 18, 2023 Roku seemed to be what killed the remote it was fine before the update. Tried new batteries, tried batteries out and back in, tried unplug all cables to Roku box and wait 5 min then plug in, tried unplug Roku box plus batts out of remote then plug in box and wait then batts in remote, tried pressing remote reset (no light). I hate the remote on my phone it's not as nice as holding a physical remote. I wish I could revert the update on the Roku box it seems likely it somehow killed my remote same day update same day remote dies.
I tried all of these. What worked was unplugging the device and taking the batteries out of the remote. Wait for 15 seconds and it worked😊

How do you adjust the sound on the Roku app.
It's a little hard to take advice from a person who thinks the proper way to remove the battery's is to hold the remote in one hand, and smash it against your other hand until the battery's come flying out or you break the remote.

Ok mine worked fine till I factory reset the TV and now the remote turns the TV on and off that's it. Stuck on pick language screene. I do not have the Roku box, and the remote does not have a pair button. Boy I messed up, this is the work TV. 😅 I have tried everything. I reset the TV because someone's random email was logged to the TV.

All 4 of our Rokus are messed up. Nothing worked. Plug into AC for reset, everything tried. Unplugging the internet router is the only thing left for the 4 TVs. Yes, the App shows 3 devices but you would think remotes would work and not fail out. One TV has an internal Roku and that IS working. Going to a phone app to work a streaming service is insane. Buggy system. No faith in the technology.

Every time I put the batteries in, it works for about 2 clicks. And then it shuts itself off and it won't connect to the TV anymore. Until I take the batteries out, put him back in good for 2 clicks. Then back out back in 2 clicks back out back in pain in the butt. My fingers are getting sore from taking the batteries out

Yep that's what happened to me so all my old apps will no longer available and I had to redownload some of them are non-existent now so they're lost
