Sup! Just came across this. Y'all reaction is awesome and comments afterwards made me smile. I am the original bass player for Hurt, and I remember writing this song back in 2003. Y'all can look me up on Wikipedia. And ma'am please don't cry. And Vin, I like how you thought we would be soft... Haha! I can't tell y'all the background of the meaning of the song, out of respect for J but I will say I'm GLAD y'all could make a positive message from it. Thank y'all for the love!!
Damn, I have been listening to this song for a while now. I love the absolute terror in this song. I had lost my baby girl to a mother that snapped and well.... Nothing good happened. I am not saying this is what this song is about. But it makes me think of the life that was taken too soon. I cry everytime I hear this song. It is cool to see you coming on here and giving props to Sori and Vin! I know I am 2 years behind the comment. But I just wanted to say thank you to you for such an amazing song. (I know it wasn't just you writing it, but you're the one here)
Shawn...met you guys years ago at a show in Portland. You guys were a special band. One of my girl and I all time faves. J is a special talent. Hope all is well man.
VinAnd Sori theres a few songs where the band/singer adresses disillusion of faith, such as "talking to god", but "how we end up alone" is a powerful song, its pretty raw in depiction of self reflection. Especially the music video cuz it deals with through the eyes of someone with dementia
Vin, Sori, you guys really get into the meat of a song and there are a lot of good ones from this band. Abuse, Addiction, Faith(lack there of), "bad" Love, these are all really common themes. The music video for "How we end up alone" can give more insight into "Rapture". I know since these are the underground series, you probably want to keep introducing new bands. But this group is one hell of an experience, and I can recommend quiet a few amazing songs: Personal Favorite, that got me through my childhood friend's death: "Alone with the Sea". Heavy songs: "When it's Cold", "Another Time", "That(such a thing)", "Aftermath", "Loded", "Abuse of SID" **(I realize expecting them all to be recorded is insane, but do look them up on your own time.)**
@@VinAndSori I would love to see more Hurt from you guys! Summers Lost, Talking to God, Got Jealous, Abuse of SID, House Carpenter, there are too many good ones that I know you guys would have a party trying to figure out and I'd love to hear your opinions. Much love!
I'm not gonna lie, several of this bands songs make me cry. J has the rare ability/talent to make you feel the emotions he had when he wrote these songs, especially when you see them live. Seeing this band for the first time was life changing, and I'll be forever greatful to them for doing what they've done for music in general. So many bands these days could learn so much from hurt, and maybe pull the music industry out of the toilet.
The child was brought into the world. One more thing it looked like me back when it breathed. Rest in peace. Look up the history all of the singer. He hated religion and it was because of his upbringing.. this is a very tough song to get through and if you follow to the next album with ten-ton brick you might get some more. You guys are doing great. You have a long way to go before you get really messed up people and how they operate and think. God bless you both
Poor Sori, your just singing along and digging the song. Then bam the end line. You can just see the horror in your face. Great song!!! Great reaction!!!
J. Loren from the band HURT posted this on the HURT Facebook page Someone sent me this. Over a decade later, all of the sacrifices so many have made on behalf of the music can only be justified by folks like this that are willing to feel AND they, live on camera, willingly undertook the uncomfortable process of thinking about it too. For 5 minutes I was together in mind with someone. Through this I felt alive again. A moment of being "normal" and not alone. I hope you stay true and never callous and keep showing art that you find to be of substance to the world. You make it worth it. Thank you for listening. (edit) if you stop by their channel, give them my thanks.
Hurt got me through two very difficult times! They are highly underrated! I cry still to this day when I hear this particular song! But hurt is my all time favorite band!!!
The first verse hints to an affair. The second they conceived and the woman kept the baby tho it was not her husband's. Third the guilt drives her to try to fix the mistake justifying it as it was a sin. And the final parts are him reacting to the loss of a child. Because he cannot do anything about the woman doing that to the child that was his without outing his and her discretions. If you watch their live performances of this song you can see the incredible very personal connection the singer has to this song.
Also this first abum from this band is one of my all time favorites. So many good songs like Rapture, Overdose, Falls Apart, Unkind, House Carpenter... Just so powerful and amazing
Vol 1 and Vol 2 from Hurt are still to this day some of the deepest albums i have ever heard, i got to see him live and the passion he puts into his performance was insane!
Damn, I was gonna suggest this song. It's such a powerful and emotionally "heavy" song and I knew if you heard it you would feel the same way too. Again, a great discussion afterwards. This video and song stands alone and separate from all your other videos as being immensely moving. Great work.
Vin and Sori please do more Hurt reactions, they need more exposure. Hurt volume 1 is arguably the greatest album in the history of mankind. It’s a shame the world is missing out on such powerful artistic music. Hurt vol.1 Overdose, falls apart, losing, or house carpenter. Rapture is good but you guys are missing out.
Thank you so much for this video. It was also the first song that I heard from this band. I fell in love with the sound and the stories that were told. I was overjoyed when I spent time with the band to find out J. Loren, the singer, is as humble and emotional as he portays himself to be through his music. He doesn't have the alter ego that some musicians do off-stage. This song, and many others of theirs, show how real and raw love and devotion can be.
I added this song to my phone, because it’s so good. I enjoy the vids, because they’re usually 20-30 minutes long. Most reaction channels spend 10 minutes on each video, just so they can put ads on the vid. I can tell you guys really enjoy what you’re doing, because you put effort in the vids. Keep up the good work! If you have time, listen to Death Blooms by Mudvayne.
Same story! Saw them live in MN like 5 times in 3-4 years and even with all the line-up changes the oldest to the most recent songs are just amazing. Majorly underrated band.
This is the very video that got me hooked to your channel. J. Loren from hurt shared this video when you first released it. Is there any chance you guys will make a trip back down to this band sometime, although of you don't I understand fully. Several songs dive in to dark places. Would love if you guys did, I absolutely love this band, but it isn't for everybody. I would suggest Vin do a preliminary listen to some of the other songs
I knew as soon as Sori heard the lyrics, she felt exactly what this song meant. That’s kinda how this song is. It slams into you at the end. This is actually my first time viewing your channel. It was posted on Hurt’s page. He sends his thanks for not only listening, but feeling his music. ❤️❤️❤️
This song grabs you hard. I remember the first time I heard it and was blown away. It's really amazing how music can emote even the darkest reflections of society
I've been watching your channel for one or two years. But I followed for your reaction only to Metallica or Tool. Recently my phone suggests me to listen to this song by Hurt. I listened to it and I had no air to breathe! Such heavy lyrics make me goosebumps. And I still can't watch your reaction till the end. What a great song and impressive reaction. My respect
I've loved, loved, loved this band for so many years. They are so underrated. Their songs always make you think and feel deeply, no matter the subject. We need more HURT!!! Thank you for this video; I hope you'll listen to more HURT (please).
I've been a huge fan of Hurt (and a devout follow of Christ) and this is the most insightful interpretation of this song I've ever heard. This is amazing insight and actually brought me to tears. Great job guys!
I actually think this is a first hand account of what happened to J. Loren Wince, the lead singer. They had an unapproved relationship and she gave birth then killed their baby because of her demented religious views. It's a story of before birth and after.
Please please do more Hurt. You two were so great to listen to. I think you did J Loren proud with your analysis and it broke my heart to watch the song sink with you both.
I just found your channel and I have loved this band and this song for years. Your real and honest reaction was incredible to see and the knowledge and true faith you both bring to light on the subject was truly touching. I hit that subscribe button fast. Thank you for showing a rational side of the Christian faith. And a loving one. Thumbs Up.
I have seen Hurt live and met the guys many times, they are one of my favorite bands and a great bunch of musicians. The first time I really listened to "Rapture" and processed the lyrics, it sent shivers down my spine. It is morbid, and it means what it means. The verse "so she walked in the baby's room, knowing what she would do, leaves me in absolute horror, she put her hands on it's lips and gave it one last kiss" is brutal. We all know what that means. I just hope it's not a true story from J's life. Great discussion, and what reactions our hosts had when they were putting it together! WOW!
Sori you have become one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. I've listened to HURT since the first song I heard almost 20 years ago. J Loren is a musical genius, his word play is beyond comparison...but EVEN WITH ALL OF THAT; it's the EMOTION that he rings from you, just gut wrenching, visceral, true emotion! Whether it's anguish, or disdain or whimsy or love...THIS MUSIC MAKES YOU FEEL!! I asked another person to react to this and she halfass listened, didn't even pay attention to the song, was busy reading live stream comments, then she and her buddies poo pooed and negated the song in one fell swoop! She lost my respect, because THIS SONG is one that just has to be absorbed! Sori, your emotion, I wanted to hug you and say "maybe you can explain to me why I'd EVER believe in the whole 'God' thing?"
I'm digging this song! They are new to me though. I really think "Hurt" is an understatement to the pain this song describes. So sad yet such a beautifully retold story.
Been listening to this song a Lot. Great genuine review, It goes down with songs like Judith by APC as you mentioned. Love both and love this review. Great advice at the end and walking through this with logic. People struggle on the world and it’s great to use logic not just faith to guide your life.
Understandably how difficult this song is to swallow based on the subject matter. I agree with an earlier comment that someone stated it would be a hard one to regurgitate; however, from a musical stand point, I really enjoyed the composition. It had nice change ups with some metal flare. I agree Vin, it has that 90s nu-metal feel to it for sure. I am going to reach into their song bag a little deeper on my own and see what more they have to offer. Have a great Saturday Vin and Sori!
You should watch their acoustic version of this track, it's incredible. This band is so very underrated, just like this song many of their tracks are stories that often tug at the heart strings and so full of imagery.
Highly reccomend listening to talking to god, alone with the sea, or pandora. this band is so underrated, some beautiful violin work from the singer aswell
So, that was my Christmas video 2019! Haven't seen it before. This song is tough man and (almost) every time either one of you cries I cry too. One day he will wipe away all our tears... Love you guys, too.
I'm a bit late to the party on this one! I was listening to this song today and was going to suggest it for you then saw you already had a reaction to it. Great review. I can see that Sori really felt this one
Great react video. Like a lot of the other comments, J's post brought me here. Gotta check out the rest of their songs, one of my all time favorite bands. Awesome guys too, always take time to talk with fans after a show.
You both did such a great job analyzing/evaluating this song. I'm a long-time Hurt fan, and this was one of the first songs by them that I heard. I heard it in a noisy environment, so I didn't grasp it, but I liked the drums and screams and guitar that I heard. Fast-forward to when I really "heard it" for the first time... and then yes, it hits a different way. Fast forward even further than that, to this week, when I've been rediscovering my collection of Hurt discography (which you should definitely have a listen to if you haven't already!) and the proud father of a 6-month old baby girl. This time, I felt the song. I feel that I've experienced this song three different times, three different ways, that have mimicked my own lifes' outlook and situation at the time. You two, though, hit all three of those realizations just on the one listen. I appreciate your insight Vin and I really empathized with how you felt this song Sori. Well done both of you, truely. New subscriber!
As much as you two were blown away buy this.. How in the actual fuck have you not done more Hurt videos!? Get your shit together you two.. LOVE THE CHANNEL!
This song was about a teenager in the Carolinas who killed her baby because she believed Jesus told her to. Her pentecostal church was extremely critical of unwed teen mothers as well so she killed the baby. Wish I could remember more about it but I do remember it was in the news. I was obsessed with this album when it came out.
Vin And Sori, it's the first video I watch from you and I liked it so much that you have a new subscriber, Amazing words from an amazing song. The 1st time I heard this song I understood nothing of english and I loved the song, now a decade later and fluent in english I find it again here and wow! I am christian, and at 1st I admite I was shocked with him talking about "destroying God", but giving real attention to these lyrics just WOW, I think just as you fellows do. I loved the song before, now I love it even more! it's in fact true how fanatism, fear and some other things can damage so much a family, and... I mean, if the girl of the song stayed with him from the bigining why to step back for a baby?? Thats Crazy! and is something that really happens! so yeah, that kind of people is crazy. And the man depicted in the song is really amazing... and taking the shoes on a non believer, I would say that kind of things! but after all that to keep talking about "us"... just WOOW!! for me this song has 20/10 points now. "Judith" from "A Perfect Circle" is a good song too, of course I don't agree with the perspective, but these are true feelings of true people, a great song, I don't know if you've reacted to that song but is really good too. I know you may not know even bit of spanish, but you can translate, look for the song "Angel" From the band "Helker" 100% recommended!
I'll never forget how I got into Hurt. My young son hearing it on the tv and loved this song. Then I was hooked. All of their albums and I would kill to see them live. They are so underrated and need to do a world tour
I had the same :0 reaction to the song. I first saw HURT, live, opening for AiC. It was like crack for my soul. I've been addicted to them since. I hope you enjoy the rest of their library. J. Loren is truly gifted. Thanks for the video and exposing your emotions. It was truthful. D
thank you for reacting to this band, their music is amazing but they don't seem to get much exposure unfortunately. you should check out another song by them called adonai from their album the crux that came out in 2012, it was the last album they released. the lyrics of the song would probably give you guys plenty to talk about
Hurt is amazing and versatile as a band and live all of it is dope but I will forever love how differently awesome something like Danse Russe to Forever to ten ton brick to another time just something for every emotion
glad to see yall do hurt very under rated but very diverse band many different sounds on every album but all good much like blue october whose music is very raw and honest
i think (your born again untill your worn again) means you claim christianity untill life hands you your ass and you fall back into your (sinner) ways then wash and repeate
MESHUGGAH - Clockworks , it’s time for you two beautiful souls to get into this Mind blowing band, they are pioneers, it’s like nothing you have heard before!!! that song is off their latest album released in 2017.
I listened to this alot in Afghanistan when things were calm for a second. Brings back alot of memories good and bad. Feels kind of eerie almost now, or maybe just too surreal. Never really considered them metal, but I enjoyed some of their songs. Wish I didn't associate it with those memories. That's life I guess.
Oh and a third thing that I don't think you Vin and Sori would know about but maybe other Hurt fans can concur with me about is the thing that tugged on my heart the most about this album and set it apart form anything I've ever hear was just that repeated strange woman's voice of "I love you so much" thoughout the album..
George Bedrin dude, no lie. I remember listening to this album through headphones while I went to sleep. The end of House Carpenter, once the false ending came and started back, I snapped awake just as the "I love you so much" hit and I was terrified. Lol. But yes, the repeating nature of it adds to the cryptic nature of that whole album.
Haha! this song gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it, so thank you for being so talented!
Damn, I have been listening to this song for a while now. I love the absolute terror in this song. I had lost my baby girl to a mother that snapped and well.... Nothing good happened. I second Death Blooms and anything else by Mudvayne. Mercy Severity and Nothing to Gein are my personal favorites.
Such an underrated band, their 4 albums are great, the guitar and violin trading places during the solo in Adonai is still one of my favorite moments.
J. Loren (Hurt Lead Singer) shared this video for the "Hurt" FB page which brought me here. This song hooked me for life. Great review of the tune.

It had nice change ups with some metal flare. I agree Vin, it has that 90s nu-metal feel to it for sure. I am going to reach into their song bag a little deeper on my own and see what more they have to offer. Have a great Saturday Vin and Sori!
You guys are wonderful! Thanks a lot for these videos!
Underrated
You should watch their acoustic version of this track, it's incredible. This band is so very underrated, just like this song many of their tracks are stories that often tug at the heart strings and so full of imagery.
Highly reccomend listening to talking to god, alone with the sea, or pandora. this band is so underrated, some beautiful violin work from the singer aswell
Love the honesty. Beautiful. Give Sori a hug for us all.
Thanks!!! Needed that! Tough song for sure! -Sori🤟🏻
I’m glad she was brought to tears by thinking about this song, because when I first heard it years ago I was too
So, that was my Christmas video 2019! Haven't seen it before.
This song is tough man and (almost) every time either one of you cries I cry too. One day he will wipe away all our tears...
Love you guys, too.
You guys are so smart!!!!! Keep it going 🙏🙏🌹🌹
I'm a bit late to the party on this one! I was listening to this song today and was going to suggest it for you then saw you already had a reaction to it. Great review. I can see that Sori really felt this one
Yup!
You guys would have a f!ckin heyday with the entirety of Vol.1 and Vol. 2 if this tripped you out. Incredible ablums, incredible artist.
I loved this review... Great job guys
Keep Hurt alive. J Loren is a great storyteller
Love the oh f&&k faces on you both, your reaction was priceless. Listen to the rest of their work, you won’t be disappointed
Thank you for picking this song. Your reaction was exactly like mine the first time I heard it. Good job guys 👍
Great react video. Like a lot of the other comments, J's post brought me here. Gotta check out the rest of their songs, one of my all time favorite bands. Awesome guys too, always take time to talk with fans after a show.
Love this band, highly underrated.
Whoa you guys did Hurt, love all their songs. Not many I come across know of them...
I met Hurt twice, This is AWESOME you guys did this!!!
I loved this song back when I was 16 still impactful
Some of lyrics had me in shock, I can't believe she actually killed the baby. But it's a very good song. I love this reaction ❤️🙏🏾
Heavy song great reaction loved the analysis...mad I missed this initially
finally something interesting for me from ur underground show
Glad u enjoyed! -Sori✌🏻
Somehow I missed this one until just now. Not listened to this song in ages. Time to watch!
Edit: Forgot how sad it was. :(
I'll never forget how I got into Hurt. My young son hearing it on the tv and loved this song. Then I was hooked. All of their albums and I would kill to see them live. They are so underrated and need to do a world tour
Hurt shout-out brought me here, good stuff, subscribed.
Never heard of hurt but really liked this song
Check out their other stuff. Ten Ton Brick, House Carpenter, Eden, Wars. They are an awesome band that needs more recognition.
Ya it was beautifully done! -Sori✌🏻
Shane carter dude their first album volume one is absolutely amazing
Definitely check out House Carpenter, Losing, and How We End Up Alone. I also highly recommend UnClean and House of Cards. Hurt is so underrated.
Need. More. Hurt. How has it been 4 months without one other Hurt song?
Seen this performed live in like 06 07 and it was badass. The lead singers violin solo was epic
Ahhh ha ha...with a name like Hurt, it'll be soft. Vin is Awesome! Never heard this band before but I'm impressed with this song.
Ya me too !
Hurt is amazing. Love all their music.
J. says thank you for listening.
This song still makes me well up. Been a long time.. how about some more hurt, vin an sori? Falls apart.. overdose.. danse russe acoustic version.. 💙
I can say coming from a guy that has had this happen to him, this is not an easy song to listen.
D
Hadn't heard of this band before but thought this song was great. I'll have to check out more. Tough subject matter though. Love you guys.
i love yer reaction to this song......i am christian i believe in the Bible and Jesus but i also love rock
You two are great.
Thanks!! -Sori🤟🏻
thank you for reacting to this band, their music is amazing but they don't seem to get much exposure unfortunately. you should check out another song by them called adonai from their album the crux that came out in 2012, it was the last album they released. the lyrics of the song would probably give you guys plenty to talk about
My favorite Hurt song is overdose
Hurt is amazing and versatile as a band and live all of it is dope but I will forever love how differently awesome something like Danse Russe to Forever to ten ton brick to another time just something for every emotion
I know I'm a few months late, but there is an AMAZING live acoustic version of this song on youtube.
Damn that song was so awesome. Thanks
Vol.1 is an underrated classic
Ne obliviscaris - and plague flowers the kaleidoscope. Australian progressive metal band.
Noted! -Sori🤟🏻
glad to see yall do hurt very under rated but very diverse band many different sounds on every album but all good much like blue october whose music is very raw and honest
i think (your born again untill your worn again) means you claim christianity untill life hands you your ass and you fall back into your (sinner) ways then wash and repeate
MESHUGGAH - Clockworks , it’s time for you two beautiful souls to get into this Mind blowing band, they are pioneers, it’s like nothing you have heard before!!! that song is off their latest album released in 2017.
I was just telling Vin last might we need to to some meshuggah. We have gotten a bunch of requests! -Sori🤘🏻
Hell yes on Meshuggah. I suggest Bleed or Rational Gaze. Bleed might be the heaviest song I’ve ever heard but it’s also incredibly cool and groovy.
Very intriguing !
