@Mark Hammond You're a fucking idiot you know that? Christ man get a clue, you realize they are pure shock value, Tom is catholic, and Kerry King/Jeff Hanneman were atheists. they don't believe in the fucking devil lmfao.
VinAnd Sori your welcome !!! Its a shame because slayer reaction vids usually bring in huge amounts of views , which turn into subs. Heres hoping that your channel grows and grows . Peace !!!
Seriously, though. I don't think any Slayer fan has dissected their lyrics in such depth. Well i certainly haven't and i have a Slayer tattoo and named my 1st born Araya. I think yalls right, this is the most brutal pro life song of all time.
I absolutely love this song.....from an era when Slayer was simply eerie, heavy-as-f*ck, and just totally dominant. No one could touch slayer in the 80s.
LOL The look on your faces were priceless...Slayer minces no words. Its the harsh truth in all its brutal madness. Great breakdown. I was going to tell you he is a pretty devout Catholic but I see others have mentioned it. Great Job guys.
I kinda laughed at your demeanor change. went from rocking out to speechless awe. the knd of reactions I think people want to see in reaction videos, especially of metal.
You both rocking out, then coming to the realization of what you were hearing. You began to truly listen and not just hear, and seeing the transformation of shock upon your faces was truly priceless. I enjoyed your analysis of what the song made you feel. You have my sub.
Missed the whole concept by a fuking mile plus...... uneducated ,terrified children... Please go back to school and get a basic logic, critical thinking education... Reality is hard fact , superstitions are disgusting basterdised fantasy's.! Open mind means proof=proven logical thinking imperical evidence!
Slayer has been misunderstood ever since they began. They've always talked about very controversial subjects in a very blunt manner. Because of that they have actually been accused of truly believing that way and even promoting it. And while there are a couple of members that have been in Slayer that do lean a little darker in thoughts, Tom Araya is Catholic and has always tried to put his spin in their Style lyrically. Makes for a very interesting listen.
@Joe Black it's not trendy to do so but it shouldn't be hard to admit that they do have satanic songs... Altar of Sacrifice is literally a satanic worship song
Tom Araya started writing lyrics with the songwriting for South of Heaven. He always dealt with the more lighter side of life using a slayer fitting language.
I chuckled when you mentioned "this song is the most aggressively pro-life song of all time" because that's what I was thinking of when I heard the song the first time.
I'm totally surprised you didn't run in the other direction like your hair was on fire. Or even for releasing your reaction which was more genuine and shocking than a regular song would draw. Respect for looking for the deeper meaning. Aggressive expression isn't always born of hate. It can be born of pain and loss.
Thanks guys!!! Warned you it is a brutal and powerful song...glad you appreciated it. Given your Christianity I hoped it would be impactful...thanks for the deep breakdown! Araya was raised Catholic...Slayer has always been about an afront to the senses...to offend, to scare, to shock, this song is some of their best work and very underrated. Amazing that the “Evil Slayer” writes the most pro-life song ever...your reaction was great and hopefully gives others a new appreciation for Slayer.
I love seeing reactions to the music I grew up with. I've been a Slayer fan since I was about 16. I'm 48 years old now, and am pretty distraught with their retirement. Can't wait to see what Kerry comes up with next, as he's not ready to retire.
I love how y'all breakdown these lyrics. Slayers lyrics are deceptively deep and complex, OK some songs are just pretty straight forward (Necrophobic). Would love to hear more lyric breakdowns.
This is Dave Lombardo at his peak, his drum playing is top notch in this album, although South Of Heaven is less straightforward than Reign in Blood (in fact is way more progressive) i prefer Dave's playing here, it's absolutely spectacular!
I respectfully disagree. Lombardo is not a technician. But he has feeling and "swings it" which is a gift in drumming and not exclusive to even great drummers of the mainstream. His solo material is sub par at best but his vinyl is exceptional. But i agree that this is his best work but more technical than Hell Awaits and Reign in Tomato Sauce. @@JuanIparraguirre
King and Hanneman were the lyricists, with Jeff's input being more geared around war and Kerry being more inclined towards religious and societal issues. Killer review guys, this was one of my all time favorite Slayer songs and you absolutely nailed it.
Araya wrote the lyrics for this song and did much of the lyrics from South of Heaven on (maybe half)...even a lot of the Hanneman lyric credits early were collaboration with Araya but not credited.
@VinAnd Sori one of your first reactions and still one of your best. A song that truly shocked and caught you off guard. Your lyric breakdown was on point and it really feels like this song was the beginning of what your channel has matured into - taking on tough subjects. I am upgrading this song to a 10 or at least your reaction gets a 10.
a very Nice analasys. Been a slayer fan for almost 30 years, never seen such an open hearted view ever. Kudos to you- and you are right. Slayer isn't evil, just provocative
What’s funny is I learned to play this song on guitar a decade ago but this is the first time I’ve analyzed the lyrics. It just jumped up on my list of favorite Slayer songs. I would like to recommend Hatebreed - Supremacy of Self. It helped me get through some tough times when I was younger.
So now you are in shock! I loved your faces. I thought for a sec that Sori was about to cry. What were you expecting? It's Slayer! LOL It was so hilarious. LONG LIVE SLAYER!
Awesome reaction, loved the analysis. Keep up the great videos and the motivation. :) Suggestion: Never too late - three days grace I usually don’t like three days grace, but the one x album is great and I think it would be interesting if y’all did a breakdown on that song.
my take on " sanctify lives of scorn " back in the " good ol days" when unwed pregnancy was taboo... peopel would secretly get abortions, so as to avoid the " scorn " of an illegitimate child being born... the " sanctify" is sort of a " removal of the problem" and hiding the " sin"
New subscriber. Love how you guys break down the lyrics. Very open minded review...it's this non judgemental approach that has brought me back to Christ. I'm stoked to find more and more people who follow Christ and still appreciate metal thank you for your intelligent reaction and breakdown.
Nice to finally see proper assessment into Slayer. From a fan who saw them in 1986 headlining for Overkill and Motorhead. Most Slayer songs are written this deeply and well about said subject. Great video, thanks. Keep listening to Slayer!
People just think its all noise...no one ever really listens to what metal musicians are saying..and if they did they would understand the world a lot better...this song is brutal...yes, but its a brutal truth....but people hear the name SLayer and minds close. Take a listen to what they are saying...you would understand your children more and understand some of the pain in this world
I mean, it's clearly a song about abortion. Paints a picture in lyric of child, mothers ans societies points of view. True it is that good art often times poses questions and scenarios and doesn't answer them. It leaves that up to the viewer. And then viewers discuss what they get from it. And here we are.
You should revise your titles to "BREAKDOWNS". Reaction doesn't cut it. Very nice lyric breakdown. Top notch. People don't usually dig in to lyrics like you do. Props to you two!

At 2:15 it hits them what the song is about. I love the reaction. Some of the lyrics are more poetic than on topic, but they get the point through very well.
Gotta agree with most of the comments here and the look on your faces was worth it. Great breakdown of the lyrics. They would be lynched today if they brought this out now. Am enjoying the channel.
This was a great reaction. Slayer definitely challenges the casual listener. Give them a listen and most will find the brilliance in their lyrical storytelling, as dark and evil as it may be. Or, you just rock your brains out and have your face melted by hot ass solos. Well done. Great job.
slayer never holds back, i love these guys so much, my great regret is not seeing them live before Tommy packed it in and of course before Jeff died, MFIn slayer forever...
Vin and Sori, I'm a newbie to your videos, but I love your appreciation to this video. As much as I am a lover of Metallica, I love this band even more. South of Heaven was a breakthru album for me when it comes to Slayer. I was still a teenager when this came out but this album was their best because it was different from their first couple albums. If you get a chance please review Testament, especially Practice what you Preach album
And I am an atheist but I appreciate other views. In my opinion we should be a pluralistic religious society and not specific to Christianity. No offense intended but that may offend some, but too bad.
I've been a Slayer fan from the beginning, literally. I'm the same age and grew up in the South Bay between the guys in Slayer and Hetfield. Thrash was the music we were waiting for after the hair band fiasco of the early 80's. It's interesting to see younger people discover and appreciate music I have known for so long.
It was Dave Mustain from Megadeth who became Christian. Tom Arya was born and still identifies Catholic. Kerry King is a main lyric writer as well. Most of their lyrics are more social commentary than anything else ( all be it they talk about the darker aspects of humanity) .Some of Kerry's lyrics get anti Christian (without being pro Satan if you know what I mean).
Brilliant assessment As I was 15 when this came out i couldn’t grasp the meaning at all. Of course being a 45 year old dad now it’s obvious. But think about Tom stays in his 20’s. Very astute analysis of the song's lyrics and meaning! I assumed that the line, "Crucify bastard son", would immediately turn y'all (I'm from the mountains of Alabama lol) off; my hats off for probing deeper despite the harsh wording...something that a lot of people are unable, or unwilling, to do (and not just as it pertains to music). I really enjoy your channel and find myself reliving those "first listen" moments vicariously through the two of you. You both seem to be pretty level-headed, honest, and open...refreshing traits for this day and age. Keep up the good work! I would like to suggest the band, Overkill...specifically anything from the Years Of Decay and/or Horrorscope albums. Both are absolute masterpieces of thrash metal from a group that's highly underrated (and are still tearin' it up to this day). Long live metal \m/
Is this a "thing"? Reaction videos? Seems like it and stumbling upon this video made me very happy to find likeminded reasonable folks like you guys. I'm gonna check out your channel. This is my favorite slayer song, and it's for the lyrics... I made a playlist with my favorite Slayer songs with the lyrics as the focus. Some selections... ***Angel of Death*** Silent Scream Ghost of War Hallowed Point War Ensemble Killing Fields Bitter Peace In the name of God I love that most of the songs just present the gory truth and leave the preachin to a minimum. BTW another extreme song in this vein is "From Womb to Waste" by Dying Fetus...would love to see a reaction! Peace!
I was 14 in 1988, and I had the same reaction as you two. The lyrics are brutal. I went to my mother, asking her about these lyrics, she helped me out.
The song is about abortions. Watch some Tom Araya interviews and you'll see he's one of the nicest and coolest guys in the metal community. Check out Slayer - Circle of Beliefs or New Fatih.
the difference between slayer and other band is that slayer holds a mirror to humanity better than anyone else.

Megadeth- holy wars..the punishment due.
great analysis. this is one of the most crude and tough songs of slayer, slayer tells about the dark side of humanity
Fun fact: Tom Araya is actually a catholic.
beardmachine no he was raised catholic bitch
@@Hinglemcringleberrys he IS A CATHOLIC.
Im an Atheist than enjoys Satanic Metal...but facts are fuckin facts kid.
You've got problems hahaha
Hit the nail on the head!!! Good job guys. Earned a subscriber.
***Angel of Death***
Silent Scream
Ghost of War
Hallowed Point
War Ensemble
Killing Fields
Bitter Peace
In the name of God
I love that most of the songs just present the gory truth and leave the preachin to a minimum.
BTW another extreme song in this vein is "From Womb to Waste" by Dying Fetus...would love to see a reaction! Peace!
I was 14 in 1988, and I had the same reaction as you two. The lyrics are brutal. I went to my mother, asking her about these lyrics, she helped me out.
fleshofdanny oh shit I wonder how she reacted to the lyrics
No one did this yet?............ SSSSSSLLLAAYYYERRRRRR
Suffer the children condemned.. Great observation.. Thank you for this
The song is about abortions. Watch some Tom Araya interviews and you'll see he's one of the nicest and coolest guys in the metal community. Check out Slayer - Circle of Beliefs or New Fatih.
Ya it was pretty clear
He’s a good dude
VinAnd Sori He really is. You said your fan of Metallica, but what about Megadeth and Anthrax
It’ll all be new once we start listening
I've always personally thought it was a sick song about child abuse, lyrics fit better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
