Thanks for featuring the Savage MK II again. The Savage MK II BV that I have is an inherited rifle so it wasn't something that I sought out, however I am finding that this thing shoots very well and is certainly growing on me. It really gives me pleasure when I can get groups under 1/2" at 50 yards. Doing this just makes it fun to shoot and I'm becoming a fan of the Savage MK II. In addition to a nice light and smooth trigger as well as a good barrel and stock I've personally found that having an optic with the magnification really helps me in seeing and getting the shots.
@RimfireSS I recently shot my new Savage MK 2 for the first time . Mine is in a standard wooden stock , fitted with an Accutrigger , iron sights , and has a single shot ramp without the ability to accept a magazine . I was shooting garbage ammo about twenty years old at a brown paper box at about forty yards distance with no point of aim reference . I grouped eight shots on the top of the paper , nearly cutting the string holding the target a couple of times . At fifty yards I brellieve I could make head shots on squirrels and rabbits without a scope with this model of rifle .
Next to my buddies anshutz it prints better than most I've fired. The anshutz had a 1" barrell stead of 3/4" and great peep sights along with a barrell harmonizer or stabilizer. But next in line is the savage. And Glen's anshutz cost $1000s plus. Never got an exact price. Got it 'cheap' because it was supposedly shot out. It's a 22lr. Not a .220 swift. Don't know what it'd take to shoot out a .22. Have had a marlin mod 60 microgroove barrelled rifle since childhood that gas eaten plenty of stingers and velocitors and it looks like it did on day 1.
Thanks for shooting the Lapua through the Savage. It would be interesting to compare what the Savage did to your other rifles. Maybe use a less expensive round.
I’ll probably put them against each other. It’s so hard to do that and get a good actual comparison. These ammunitions are so inconsistent anymore. What once shot good in one rifle, then when you run out of that ammunition and buy more half the time it don’t shoot the same. I’ve been getting a lot of bad ammunition as of late. Last brick of SK long range Match shot like shit.
I was going too but Honestly there’s so many good lapping videos on RUclips I didn’t feel mine would have anymore information then the ones already posted. Thanks for watching.
I have the Mk2 TR with only mods being bottom metal and Apache trigger spring kit. Will consistently shoot .3-.6 groups at 100 yards with SK standard plus. Keep up the awesome videos!
Do you remember what height rings you are using? I have the same rifle and just bought the same scope. I need to buy rings and will probably purchase the Arken rings since I can use my points and take $40 off the price. I'd like to get the lowest height that will clear the barrel. BTW I do like the zombie green stock. I will probably upgrade the stock on mine and none of the other colors are really doing it for me. I'm gonna feel like a total copy-cat if I go with the same color lol.
Copy it! It’s awesome. I have low rings on the rifle and the scope with the sunshade it just fits. It’s tight! But not touching. I’ve used a few different low rings with no problems.
I actually had guys mad at me for sending that barrel back. Funny how when people own a certain product they’ll defend it to the end. Maybe they got a good barrel but mine was not. When I bought that barrel there wasn’t much available at a decent cost. And my RPR barrel was decent so I bought one. There are so many good barrels out there like KIDD there more money but there a great product so there worth it. And when you add all the extra stuff like lapping I’d rather pay alittle more and get a lot more barrel.
Don’t get me wrong I like Arken rings just fine, I was just trying some cheaper options to see how they hold up. And the Monstrum rings are hard to beat at $35. Most of there other products not so much. But the rings are pretty good on a rifle that only sees a bench.
Forgive me for being a doubting Thomas but it's hard for me to believe that you are getting that good of a group at 200 yards with a 22 rim fire. I have shot 22's for many many years and never got that good out of any rifle or ammo. I would have to see it with my own eyes.
😂😂😂 Really? Do you shoot ARA or NRL22? Do you use decent ammo? Do you use good technique? If he’s able to hold 0.3” - 0.4” at 50 yards, why do you think 1.6” - 2.0” groups using long range ammo at 200 yards is not possible?
Do you weigh out your ammo no matter how Superior it is I was having the same results until I started weighing and measuring the bullets then I stopped getting those weird flyers
Odds are better then with a decked out 10/22 that’s for sure. Been shooting quite abit this weekend with my “ precision” style 10/22 and at 200 yards that Savage kicks the crap out of every expensive decked out 10/22 I have. Sub MOA at 100 but falls apart at 200. Frustrating.
Hey buddy recommend me a nice quality and good functioning bipod for my new Savage MKII FVSR .. there are so many to choose from i am confused. Was going to buy a Harris 1A2-BR2 cause i watched a video and guy said it was a great pick, then i go to other videos and people comment not that good ??? Confusing .. i dont have the funds to buy several bipods to find a good one
I have watched your channel for a number of years and have been interested in the number of rifles you have tested with various ammunition, however this comment may offend you ,the rifle is described as a MK 2 when I think it should be refered to as a Mark 2. Thanks
@@RimfireSS I am just busting your hump. Speaking of everyone else, have you ever noticed that some of the RUclips shooters are so proud of their hardware that they will blame themselves for every flyer they get? Sometimes they will say I pulled that one, then for some reason the whole rest of the group forms around the shot claimed to be pulled?
@@Strutingeagle I have noticed that. Hell I’ll call a pulled shot from time to time. I do it more then I’d like. Seems to happen most often when I’ve got 4 in one hole and I choke on the fifth shot. But just the fact that shooting a group got me feeling excited like that is why I do it. It’s just damn fun!
Very good, I also do a lot of Is long range shooting at our gun club. By engage S t e e l Targets A t, 216yards It's always fun to stretch the legs on 22lr. P s I like your rifle it's just not my cup of tea.
A lot of people won’t like the green, or the fact that it’s a Savage. I get that. But I don’t get hung up on how much things cost or brand names. I go by how it performs. To each his own.
@RimfireSS I do t either. It's not that I can't afford to though. I'm an old Marine that still likes sending rounds down range. Now days it's for more the pleasure and satisfaction of it. Still keeping my skills honed. Lol. Anyway I happened across a Walmart version of ur build. It's almost identical and I love the Zombie green. It is my first savage gun period. Shoots amazing outta the box ! Ant wait to start accurising it now after seeing your channel. Keep up the great work. I'm a big fan ! 😂

@@streettuff2623 I need to replace it. The barrel gets choked up with lead even after all the work I did to it. I should send it in for warranty
Love that Boyd’s stock. Very nice budget build. Winds really do impact 22 easily. Still good shooting.
Loving the content Don, keep up the good work
between yesterday and today you have one moa average. That is outstanding for 200 yards !!

I would have stopped at the first three shots. 😄 Great groups! I wouldn't have thought it possible after seeing the original bore.
I know it’s crazy.
There is nothing wrong with just watching you shoot so keep it up compare and share the info.
Don, love the channel, thank you! Do you have problems with the magazine distorting the bullet as I've heard others complain about?
Nope, not at all.
Mine shoots that good at 50 yards with inexpensive Aguila super extra 40 grain believe it or not.
Nice shooting mate be prepared to be horrified and surprised at RWS R PLUS long range.
Wish I could get some. Not available here yet that I’ve found.
Hoy shit that's good, wonder if my old MKll with a normal 19 inch barrel is capable of the same with better ammo and lapping
Won’t hurt to try.
Lapping most beneficial on new unfired barrels. Clean, clean, clean and borescope on older guns before lapping.

Nothing.

I’ve tried several times with no real success. I did get better results but it really wasn’t enough for all the extra work.
Interesting to note the number of 2 shots going in the same hole? What are the odds-a 22 LR has a huge drop (arch) at 200 yards.

@@RimfireSS I've got the MDT Oryx on order. Went back and forth between that and the Boyd's AT one.

I like the Atlas. There not cheap but not over the top either. What attachments will you be using? Pic rail, Mlok?
That gun shoots dang good for a cheap gun.
I think I like the fact that this cheap rifle shoots so good and just as good as some of the rifles I have 4 times the money into. It’s just cool.
What chronograph are you using?
I don’t recommend the one in the video, been nothing but problems. I’m using the Garmin Zero now. I love it!
Real similar to the accuracy I get with my air rifles at 200 yards.
Only difference is my airguns cost 10x more. 😂
