I ran a commercial painting company for 35 years. Had as many as 25 man crew at a time. We were pioneering many of the spray techniques in the early 80's. Today I would require every one of my painters to watch these videos. This guy is good. I'll never forget the first time we field sprayed metal door frames for a big commercial job. As they were pulling them off the truck we lined them up in rows so you could walk through the opening. A three man crew sprayed over 500 door frames that day. No one had seen anything like it. I bid the job at $30 a frame. All we had to do was a little touch up after they were installed. I banked some coin that day boys. Like he says "get an automobile finish". I learned fast to hire guys that had done auto painting. They could switch to airless easy.
I used to paint fighter aircraft in the Air Force some years back. I can sling some paint but never used an airless system. I'm now a disabled Combat Vet and on a fixed income. Gotta do stuff myself if I want it done cheap. I gotta finish painting the inside of my home and I'm thinking about buying an airless system. Bit of a learning curve but the techniques are about the same. Looking forward to playing around with one. I've rolled most of the house already...it sucks. I can do it, but if spraying is easier, I'll spend the coin. Might be able to pick up some side money too.

God bless you all and thank you, I'm getting my house ready to sell and wasn't going to pay $12,000 for someone to paint it for me. I will be watching this several times before everything arrives to make sure I've got it all right and will be checking out more of your videos. Again God bless you for your help.

What a great video, just in time for me. I never used an airless sprayer before or masked anything, but after watching you teach the girl and then watching her do it, I believe I can do this now. @@MSteitz468ify I've been painting 40 years and these days most of the good paints are paint & primer, all in one. But there's many different types of surfaces where that just won't cut it. The Idaho painter and his crews are so good and so experienced, I've been painting and drywalling for over 22 years now and work for an amazing painting company myself, I live in Washington in kitsap county and work for sablehaus west painting, we use the same tips to, sometimes on our big interiors we'll have doors set up in different areas in rooms with the trim and window wraps in the rooms, I'll use the 310 for my trim and window wraps then will have a 410 in my pocket and just switch my tip for my doors, the orifice is the same, just an 8 inch pattern so don't have to go back to the pump to adjust pressure, I always check my pattern also on a piece of floor paper tacked to the wall, you always want to check your pressure, tip wear, pattern on paper first , never not do these things and just start spraying, if someone just starts spraying and things aren't right you'll see everything underneath your finish and it's a huge mistake. Listen to the Idaho painter, he knows what he's talking about without question.
Noticed a problem when you were shooting doors against the walls. Had a problem years ago where the paint contractor sprayed all the doors in the house in the laundry room, against one wall. That ended up with a major snafu. The wall was a mess of lacquer build up. Entire wall had to be floated and re-textured. Don't suggest spraying against existing walls without protection before you start shooting multiple coats of new finish.

Great video. I was an apprentice painter in the Bay Area in 1988 thru 91. And we never sprayed baseboards or door casings. In fact we barely sprayed inside a home unless it was a popcorn ceiling. And with exteriors we’d spray and always either back roll or back brush. It’s amazing how things have changed. I have a handyman business today where I do many different types of trades because I’ve worked construction most of my life, but I’m always battling the internal conflict of masking time and prep for spraying interiors vs just using a bucket and screen and a brush. So many times it seems like a wash when it comes to cost of masking materials and time spent on all the masking vs just rolling out or brushing. It’s just me working out in the field too. I think it would definitely be easier masking if I had an assistant tho. How say you??
I was a painter in the 70's and 80's in the high end Bay Area. Never did we spray inside. Trained by my pop, an Italian housepainter. Forearms like Rocky Marciano! We were are still are the best!

main thing with spraying is don't stop moving while trigger is pressed.....some in their first few times freeze on a spot, never stop moving the gun when paint is coming out.....rest just takes time and experience but its not too bad, obviously some stuff is harder to spray than others (like clear laquer)…..a lot of cabinets and trim out here is primer ( color of your choice) and clear laquer over it ( sheen of your choice)…..primer sticks really well and laquer gives it protection and sheen

I haven’t been able to find good painters around me. They turds that painted my house did all the stuff that your not supposed to. It looks like they painted right over dirt on my base boards.
I want to Thank You for sharing your knowledge, thru your video 's.They are very informative and helpful.I also appreciate the pop-up Verses. Thanks again God Bless You.( Romans 8:28)
The first guy spraying doors when you get to the bottom of the door on your motion don't shoot at an angle keep the gun straight on I tell my guys what can happen is angled application normally isn't as strong a layoff as straight on I learned that when I used to shoot cars. I have my guys watch your videos they have learned a lot thanks.
If you spray doors and base boards before the walls will the gloss paint not effect the wall paint you put on walls if not covered? Will it effect the finish of the wall paint?
Do you caulk the bottom of the skirting boards after masking the floor with frighted tape? Also it blows my mind that you don't get runs on the trim work when spraying. Awesome work mate.
I think some caulk it because the space at the buttom isn't even and looks weird. Another reason may be to stop water from getting in there and swelling up the trims
Thanks for the instructional videos. Your format is probably aimed more for the professional side of the trade. As a DIY, I am always willing to learn. There are umpteen videos on RUclips on how to select a spray tip, but hardly any on the model of the sprayer. My newbie question is: isn't selecting a spray tip putting the cart before the horse. Some DIY level airless paint sprayers, do not support all spray tips and paints. and their various combinations. I purchased a Graco Painters Plus and so far so good, however, I am realizing now that it's limited on selections of paints and tips (I am just a homeowner). Anyway thanks.
A real painter knows all of this. But I learn something everyday, and usually learn something from every painter I work with! Whether they're a rookie or with 26 years experience like myself
@@mtbrdude try the graco DIY for around $250 . I have one and it can handle a 517 tip doing ceilings, no problem . It will probably start losing pressure after a couple hundred gallons. It surprised me!

Great Videos always , Is it possible to utilize an airless electric sprayer, with furniture and rugs in the rooms. Shall I spray walls before ceilings. Thnx
For home diy, which airless sprayer do you recommend? We interior paint our home every 3 to 5 years. The brush and roll business is getting old. Looking for a decent sprayer that won't break the bank. Awesome content. Thanks for posting. Looking forward to the next episode.
Wrong respirator cartridges @ 23:30. You have HEPA (magenta) cartridges which is for dust not vapor. John is wearing the right ones with pre-filters to catch any vapor droplets.
One little trick I use when I'm orbital sanding the faces of baseboard to protect the tape that's down just have a 2 or 3 ft section of roll flooring and just kind of keep it moving along with you as you're sanding so you don't burn your tape it's a nice little added layer of protection I knew a guy that would cut the 16th of an inch off of his sanding disc for his orbital and that would keep the edge of the paper disk from ripping the tape that works good too
Love the video! When you use the sponge for cleaning your finger while caulking how do you clean the sponge or is it single use? Also, how do you keep your equipment so clean? I've only run 10-12 gallons through my machine and it's covered in overspray.
unless you're using silicone (which you wouldn't, because it can't be painted) you can clean the sponge in a bucket of water. The point is just to keep a clean wet finger to tool the caulk. There's other methods (like a silicone "rib" used for pottery) that work as well.
When you spray the trim. Do you have to sand the overspray off the wall before you paint the walls? Can you see the difference if you paint over the excess trim paint on the wall?
What if the wall paint is already finished and baseboards are painted last? What tape do you prefer to use on the wall ? Also what’s the best way to sand 2” baseboard that has extra grooves and not necessarily flat for a sander? Sanding sponge?
At the end where the doors and door trim was changed with a lacquer and toner to change the colors; do you just paint over the lacquer on the walls with your latex paint? did you have to sand the wall area around the door trim?
I'd love to see you do a review on the harbor freight professional avanti max 821 paint sprayer run it through the paces and give a honest review...awesome videos by the way
I love all your videos, gives me allot of good tips..when I need to know something I go to your videos.can you give me some advice as far as Draws, what’s the best way to start out .material draws.Etc.
I LOVE your vids! Where I get confused tho is distance of gun from surface..at about 48ish minutes in you indicated to stay approx 12” away from surface but m eyes & brain bought you were approx 3-6” away - max. 😓 and, it seems in other places of vid guns were that close as well. will you please provide some clear context on this? 🤗 (editing to add: I’m a beginner & why I’m hoping you’ll answer with more insight for me & others)
Great video with awesome advice. However I noticed the door handles were taped. Usually it's just two screws on interior doors. I find it faster to unscrew them. Its also more thorough and saves material. I understand taping some hardware like windows or more complex smart security devices. Each thier own I guess.
Nice video I’m using a Wagner sprayer with hea 311 tip for trim but can’t get a good finish without runs, watching you guys you seem to be putting way more paint on how do u avoid runs?
Great compilation. Question- I want to change the wall color in a finished room that has a white ceiling. Any masking tips so that no overspray gets on the ceiling? Thanks.
Sure, do not spray it, cut it in twice then roll it twice letting it dry to the touch between coats and on the second coat roll in one direction. Take your time because why not you have to look at it everyday.
He use to tattoo I can tell because he had all them mainly on one arm . Plus I do the same thing and I'm a o.k painter lol a modest professional I am . Love the videos
I haven't watched the whole video yet. I do have a comment about New Construction which I'm about to get in to. In my construction laborer days we would have to scrape windows cause they mostly all had windows before they get cased then we paint. Maybe it's our way if doing it in Michigan but we always have windows installed as soon as the rough framing gets finished and passed
Chris your videos are great. I been a painter for a long time. What is you opinion on what is the best material to give a new rough sawn wood patio a white was look? It must be able to withstand the elements outside. I look forward to future vidios
We always take hardware off ... And never spray against walls ...Ghosting later on finished walls.. We put doors on sticks in biggest rooms away from walls... I can see lots of places where you would get misses (around door furniture... ) I have been painting for 55 years... first airless spraying 40 years ago...
So I am new to woodworking and paint sprayers. In your video at the 1:55 mark you were spraying inside and outside, why would you not need to have everything covered or in a confined area? Would you not have particals going every where else creating a mess elsewhere in the house, etc?

Thank you for your support🤙
@@Idahopainter I got my whip early and got to use it yesterday. Helped me so much in the hallways and closets. Now I'm buying a paintlife shirt 😁✌️
I’m buying the green hose extension, it’s a real pain the mobility of the spray gun with the regular hose
If you would plz let me know what you think ab it I have problems with mine to swivels that don’t want to turn an such an will it covert from a triton gun to a graco gun
Stayed until the end and saw the toner trim. Thanks for the compilation. Buying a Graco sprayer and this gives me good confidence
Great video Chris. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You have helped so many people. Rock on!
one of my favorite painters
Thanks for the help and for your time.
So i want to make sure here, lower the pressure when it is being over sprayed? I am going to use a 619. Doing a hotel. Biggest size I ever done. 2nd time doing interior. But w a hole new machine! X5!!!! Very excited to use!
Very informative, practical: great to sit down with a "soda" with a insightful Teacher....
I am glad you spelled out the tips! the first time I heard you say "HEA", it sounded like, ATA no matter how many times I played it back. just say'en sorry...
Glad to help
Jazz I would love to have these guys paint my house. They are probably real expensive, however they deserve it. I’m currently trying to learn this stuff so I can paint my house correctly. I haven’t been able to find good painters around me. They turds that painted my house did all the stuff that your not supposed to. It looks like they painted right over dirt on my base boards.
New builds are alot of fun with sprayers
So, my guess is you gave her a fresh pair of your painter pants and logo T shirt. You guys are rockin it
I want to Thank You for sharing your knowledge, thru your video 's.They are very informative and helpful.I also appreciate the pop-up Verses. Thanks again God Bless You.( Romans 8:28)
Your doing well educating people on this skill set. Keep it up.
Thanks for showing your pro tips!!
If you spray doors and base boards before the walls will the gloss paint not effect the wall paint you put on walls if not covered? Will it effect the finish of the wall paint?
Thank for always making everything so clear an easy !
That's right, they don't last.
I appreciate your video, a lot of things to learn !!! could you explain more about which kind of paint (water based or oil based) to apply for wall ( bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, room for kid....) , for cabinets , for inside & outside door, ........etc .
Thanks very much, Sir !
Hello from Vancouver, Canada. Great teaching videos. Just subscribed your channel. Thanks for your videos my brother in Christ
I enjoyed your video I'm a maintenance technician supervisor I manage 450 double wild mobile homes in Florida I paint everyone home with rollers and brushes but it seemed to take me to long.I recently purchased a paint sprayer but don't have any clue of how to use it do you have any videos for paint sprayer beginners.
I liked the idea with the paint stick to hold door off the wall.
By the way if you are just doing some basic molding or baseboard in a small room you can totally use an aerosol spray can as well
You guys using emerald urethane on those interior trims? Recently been using the pro industrial urethane for trim inside of a restaurant good stuff interior exterior
So it is?
This is a fantastic video!! Subscribed!
Love your videos and you are an inspiration I can tell you love what you do. Just got my HEA valve and its awsome.
Thanks for sharing your videos, I really like them, thanks to you I got my first Titan Airless sprayer, I haven't used it yet, I'watching videos on ... Now, please I'd like to know where I can get the extention pole, and brand to look for it... Thanks a lot for your help...
Great Upload! Learned a ton and ready to spray.
Great Videos always , Is it possible to utilize an airless electric sprayer, with furniture and rugs in the rooms. Shall I spray walls before ceilings. Thnx
Thanks
Very good video and thanks for sharing.
Curious how you deal with punch and repair.
Thanks 👍
Collossians 3:16. Thank you brother!
You are welcome
For home diy, which airless sprayer do you recommend?
We interior paint our home every 3 to 5 years. The brush and roll business is getting old.
Looking for a decent sprayer that won't break the bank.
Awesome content. Thanks for posting. Looking forward to the next episode.
I just bought the Avanti airless spray painter for my home. I just stained the fence which was a big job! It worked great !
Love the content. I've learned so many things from these video. Everything is explained really well and it makes sense. Thank You!
Thank you for sharing and watching!
35:50 ... repairing 'Knicks "... they need a point guard and maybe a small forward...
Just busting your chops... great video, very informative.
I do painting myself and you do make sense to me on your videos
thanks
you can also use extender additive with a brush or roller if you don't have a sprayer!
Thanks!, never knew about it. I learnt a soft new brush work best for wall paint to minimize sreaks.
When you spray the trim. Do you have to sand the overspray off the wall before you paint the walls? Can you see the difference if you paint over the excess trim paint on the wall?
if u get an answer! i would like to know the same thing ^^ :)
I am thrilled to see the scriptures you add into your videos.
Not sure what your question is?
Cool
Free learning the best learning 👍 thank you for the video
Glad you enjoyed it
Good video, thanks. I miss Sun Valley ,
Chris your videos are great.
I can see lots of places where you would get misses (around door furniture... ) I have been painting for 55 years... first airless spraying 40 years ago...
correct you must be a real painter
What about the low pressure fine finish tips? 310 or 410 at 1000 to 1500 psi, or do you still prefer the purple fine finish tips?
Awesome guys, do you like to use the battery-operated handheld sprayers on the baseboards or are they inadequate in some situations???
Learning a lot he is inspiring.
So I am new to woodworking and paint sprayers. In your video at the 1:55 mark you were spraying inside and outside, why would you not need to have everything covered or in a confined area? Would you not have particals going every where else creating a mess elsewhere in the house, etc?
What is that tool youre using to roll the rosin paper like that? That is beautiful!
Gracias por su contenido saludos desde Barcelona 🇪🇸
nice
Thank you! Amazing. 🚀
Your videos are great and very informative
Can you spray when there's carpet in the rooms? Is the prep process similar? Also, do you prefer Titan over Graco?
We spray around carpet all the time.
