Chris you're one hell of an authentic and amazing professional teacher....very clean, detailed and informative. Nice to see real beings who love what they do and don't mind teaching others - very admirable 👏👏👊
I've been paying it for many years and I started watching some of your videos and just want to say thank you because I have learned so much and here I thought I was a painter LOL thanks again.
I am a DIY doing my first project. I am painting 1100.00 sq feet. I have watched several of your videos. They are very informative and easy to understand for the first timer. Thank you and God Bless
Great channel! I work at Glacier Factory Finishes here in Montana and we also have issues with the SW ultra deep base. Straining all of our paint has been helpful, so has properly mixing our paints. Scraping the bottoms of 5 gallon buckets with a stir stick, along with drilling the paint with agitators has proved useful! Paint life keep rockin it!
Getting ready to spray interior walls in a house in Venice Beach Florida. Just bought a Wagner 770...I'v always brushed and rolled..This will be my first time ever spraying...Your video is a god send to me .I learned quite a bit....Thank you for making this for me...
That was a really good video been in the trade 33 years in NZ I have my own company and a very good reputation. But lately we are having to spay alot of New homes to stay competitive. We always preferred to brush and roll. I've been watching your videos to get a refresh on spaying and its really helpful 👌 thanks alot .
Thank you so much for your videos. I've been watching for over a year getting up my courage to paint my two story apartment myself. Thanks to your videos I was able to do the prep work prior to starting and to use the sprayer (with the PSI that worked best). Sadly, because I was on top of a 25 foot ladder, I was unable to get clean starts and stops at logical places, but all turned out beautifully. Thanks again.
Hi Chris, Luke Bourne here from Australia. Awesome vid, great content. Very true about the paint brands we have. Have been straining paint for 10yrs +. All suppliers recommend that you water down 5% for spraying. It has got a lot better in the past 5yrs.
Peace be upon you. I consider you one of the best painters in the world .. You have a great style and a true artist in your profession .. I am your follower from Algeria. Greetings and may God help you.
Chris you are rocking this game. Love the channel. You vids are consistently outdoing themselfs as far as video quality is concerned and the delivery of information, and the information itself is top notch. I've been a fan for well over a year and I will continue to watch and enjoy your vids. Thank you so much! Please keep up the great work!
What an amazing video. I love learning from pros. You clearly broke down why and what to look for. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and helping me paint better.
I am a retired city and guilds served painter and decorator. When I served my apprenticeship rollers were not ever used. All ceilings and walls were done with a 9in paint brush from a metal bucket . When rollers came along I was very sectibal although as they improved I took to better licking to them as they made life so much easier and I earnt far more money. I am still called upon to do the odd decorating job now and again although I can be far more choosy. I have never been in the world of spraying although it seems to be the next trend. I have bought myself a Wagner 150m 300w diy airless paint sprayer 230v (UK) as it was less expensive to see if I take to it .So l will watch you with interest Roy Stamp Cambridge United Kingdom
Thank you for putting out these videos. New to the channel , somewhat new to spraying and this channel is teaching me a lot . Also gonna be purchasing that whip you mentioned from you. Again, thanks for these awesome tips.
The sputtering problem you described at the end is common with oil based paints that have been sitting past the manufacture date for a long time. We use oil base all the time in line striping and even the cans that are only a few months old sometimes need 4-5 full cups of toluene, even after been shaken in a commercial machine. Even after all that like you said some paint is just crap and will not spray
Perfect video. To the point tips LOL. I'd like to see the same video with the Graco cordless. Tip size tips spraying certain surfaces with that sprayer.
I sure do appreciate your generosity with your experience and knowledge. If I had known about you years ago, I would have been an even better painter. Thank you.
Thank you for the great tips on using an airless sprayer. I just bought a cheap airless sprayer to start messing around. And with your videos and info I hope to soon get a better quality sprayer.
Im happy that you're straining your paint that is what I've always done when it comes to painting even if they are brand new paint buckets, it goes easier on your pump and even when cut and roll.
You’re so thorough & detailed! I appreciate it so much! About to start using my new paint sprayer watching this video was last and final step before starting lol
Wow! What a great video, you explain very well the spray patterns to look for and how to adjust pressure to correct them. I really learn a lot from you and enjoy watching all of your videos. God Bless, and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
Back when I started painted with the sprayer you were my go to thanks for the videos...I got a question that maybe you or anyone else can answer...why does my spray gun throw a stream of material when I release the trigger?! I've been having that problem recently
thank you so much for your tips. very important info. I had issues with spraying doors with the purple tip 3/10. kept clogging within a few seconds. I think it was the paint? new Titan sprayer, gun, tip and screened my paint. I used Kellymore exterior semi gloss waterbase paint. I will try changing gun and manifold screens?? Very grateful, J.M. Construction
Nice video, thanks. Have been using airless for the first time today, and even if the walls and ceilings look ok, i used 3 times more paints than expected... I guess tomorrow will start with a test to adjust the pressure !
I love your videos I'm getting into learning how to spray paint and your videos are helping massively, its alot to when you look into it. Do you have any recommendations for hea tip size for a kitchen matt emulsion and best tape for masking off freshly painted coving and skirting.
I had a heck of a time (1st time ever using gun) getting a even spray pattern today on a 18’ plywood wall , I just watched this video again , was using a 517 tip that came with new 440 on 50’ hose.. I kept getting heavy lines on each sides of Fan so i would turn pressure up and No help ,ended up putting different tip and got nice even pattern ,Im wondering if the paint isn’t meant for spray-gun, Very Informative Video’s
I have an older model graco ultimate airless paint sprayer. I can get it to prime and spray but it continuously runs and sprays zigzag lines. It also builds a lot of paint in front over primer shaft. The pump will slow down when adjusted but will not stop until it too low to spray.
Hey Chris really appreciate the videos!! We have just added painting for all of the surfaces that we blast and your videos have been a great help!! I am trying to find a way to organize my airless sprayer tips, and I was just wondering where you got the tip saver from? I couldn't locate it on Google or on your website. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Hi. Thanks for this great video. I'm currently wall painting. Paint consumption is very high. Is that related to the pressure? Should I delute the pain and reduce the pressure? Or is this due to the nozzle size? I paint with a 517. Thanks
Why do you put your tip in paint thinner? I use water when using latex paints. Also why do you use an extension for something you can hold the gun onto by itself without the extension? Thx for the video
Most paints are strained very good at the factory. However, if it left outside for a certain amount of time the sun can dry the material on the inside the bucket. In which you have to strain. It all depends on how the material was stored until you brought it. Every paint should be strain but ….. Bird cages are also good on some jobs.
Hi there boss. First i wanted to thank you for always sharing the best tips with us. Incredibly helpful. I have a question related to the business part of painting. Any tips for a young entrepreneur who just started a local painting business? How to escalate the business? Is it better to hire people or to subcontract? Thank you in advance
The reasons for the paint being dirty is because the easiest way for paint companies to meet all of the new VOC restrictions they removed all of the things that keep paint from drying inside the bucket. If you remember the old gallons used to have a semi-clear liquid at the top when they were left out, unshaken for a few days. I cant remember what it is called but removing it was the easiest way for them to meet the compliance without having to reformulate all of the colors per product. If you think about adding emulsabond, the paint color doesnt change. Same concept. They removed the additive that wouldnt change the color. I used to work for SW and it was explained to me by one of my reps. Basically they took the good stuff out of the paint, because it was cheaper.
You mentioned Sherwin Williams ProBlock (oil-based) primer. Can this be sprayed? Does it need to be strained prior to use? Thank you, excellent tutorials!
Awesome video this was very helpful, I've googling haven't found any answers to my questions about why my sprayer does tails when I spray and use up paint like crazy. I end up having more paint on myself then the ceilings. (Lol) Great thanks perfect clip. KEEP IT UP.
@paints life tv I'm in Australia just starting to use an airless . How much do I thin the paint down ... I heard maybe 10 to 15 % . Secondly . In order of spraying. 1. Ceilings 2. Door and window frames 3. Walls.. ????? Cheers Bill..
Thank you for the video...I'm new to this and in the process of painting my houses exterior. I'm using a 515 tip with SW super paint I seem to be using a lot of paint, Its not running and seem to be covering well but I do have a tail and a lot of over spray . Do you have any suggestions thank you
I've been watching your videos a lot but my first spray indoor wall didn't work well. I am novice in spray painting. I am changing color from glossy green to white. Questions: 1) should I have sand and prime glossy paint first? 2) my tip is 515, should i still need to add water to thin the paint? 3) during spray time, I noticed some paint thrown into the wall like rain drops, thoughts? Thank you. I like your channel and how you explain things.
What kind of incentives do you provide your employees to keep them motivated and producing. Also how do you train people. Do you hire already experienced?
Hello, I'm spraying industry enamel oil base for some carports , do you have any recommendations for this material is really hard to work with , this was a customer choice is giving me I little hard time spraying. Thank you in advance you are the most knowledgeable painter on RUclips.
I’m just a home owner non professional painter if I want to paint my house should I rent a good sprayer or is there a good less expensive sprayer you would suggest I purchase? Thanks great videos very informative 👍🏼
3:48 great video, you didn't mention it but I assume running the pressure higher than needed will also put undue wear and tear on the tip nozzle (shortening life)
Thanks for the video. I have a Graco X7 that does not come with a pressure gauge. I get a lot of advise about what pressures to run but I can't see what psi I'm spraying. Should I put a gauge on it?
This is a great video and I enjoy all of your content. QUESTION: I have embarked on my own project of spraying my kitchen cabinets. I am using a Graco X5 and a 313 FFT (I’ve also tried 415). I am spraying Kilz original as I am using BM advanced. I’ve tried all I feel I can try and still getting tails. Cleaned filter, cleaned inflow and outflow valves. I’ve even thinned to primer 4oz of mineral spirits for 1 gal. I’ve just sprayed the first coat. Help would be much appreciated.
First time using my Graco project painter plus today and the tip kept jamming up. I was spraying Magnolia Home cabinet paint in the color Loyalty Blue by Sherwin Williams. I wanted to use emerald urethane or the Valspar equivalent but I couldn’t find any of it. Once I cleared it it would spray fine for about 30 seconds and then jam up again. I didn’t strain the paint so I wonder if that’s what it is.
I've learned a ton from your videos over the years, thank you. I want to paint my wood crank out casement windows but I am unsure how to go about this. I cannot find any videos on this from anyone. Do you spray the window when its closed and open it, then roll the rest of the sash or do you take off the sash and spray it separately? I would love to know the process you would do for this and what materials you would use. I've got an Airless and an HVLP available to use. God Bless Brother.
Do you recommend thinning latex paint? We are painting thick stucco and it just seems like the result would be better if we thinned the paint. I am using a titan 440 airless sprayer.
I have a grace 495 spray machine and use the green 312 fine finish tips for trim and like how to covers and never clogs. When I use a 310 tip my gun keeps getting clog or the gun isn’t able to spray the paint. I use a 60 filter on the gun and manifold. Do you know what the problem would be? If I use the 60-80 filter on the manifold and 100 filter on the gun will that make the paint go threw while using the 310 tips or even a 208 tip.
So I just purchased a graco ultra 395 airless sprayer, I have not used it yet because I was curious if I had to clean the airless sprayer right after it being used at the job site or if I would be able to clean the airless sprayer when I got home from a job? What is the proper procedure. Thank you
i bought a wagner pro130 1600psi set no adjustment. i have to paint a whole house including ceilings, the house was all wall paper. i am using kilz original primer oil. I could not get the fingering to go away, so i back rolled which worked fine but when its only you that is a lot of work n running lol. what pressure should i be spraying it, i would like to try again this ti,e with a little more info
Hey @PaintLifeTV - why don't you use the "clean shot" attachment from Graco? It stops the spitting when using a wand. When I paid $180 for it, I nearly died. Then doing my first new build set of interior doors, it paid for itself on the first door (of 22 doors)
Can you talk about the rubber/metal washer inside the nozzle that cradles the tip. I have one nozzle where this washer just falls out. Other nozzles seem to hold it in firm. Are they a universal size? Thanks
Can I get the whip in the UK? I sprayed 1900 sq foot 5 bed house today and I think the whip would help me with tight spaces and less fatigue on my wrist
Chris I got the nova ultimate 395 we are spraying interior walls with pro mar 200 eggshell spray pattern is weird I got it to no railing but heavy in the middle , so far 15 gallons, you think it’s the tip or pressure
What would you recommend for a small spray rig and tip for spraying water based polyurethane concrete sealers? I'm sick of getting roller lines showing in cured sealer and want to try spraying for a fine even finish
I am looking for a good sprayer for multiple purposes, very interested in the Titan 440 since watching a bunch of your videos. I want to be able to spray cabinets and an exterior of a house when needed. Would you use this to spray cabinets with the right setup (tips, gun, pressure)?
Hey Chris, where did you get your spray test paper holder and paper? I’m looking for something a little smaller that I can take with me to my jobs, thanks!
Have a question? Leave it in the comments and if we answer it in our next video you will get a Paint Life Hat.
What is the best paint you can recommend a (non oil) that is can use to paint my interior Doors and Trim, in my house?
Paint life hat I want one

Very cool!
Thanks my Brother for this short but very important lesson!!! Keep strong u deserve it!!!
Thanks, I just spent 5 bills on your website. But can't keep watching your videos my wife is getting jealous!
Oh no!
Have you ever attached some filter material over your rock filter instead of pouring it through a filter? It works pretty good for smaller jobs.
I absolutely love the scripture. What a great medium you have to get His good news out. Keep honoring Him and training/serving His people. PEACE

Hi there, can you do a demonstration video on how to paint the walls and ceiling consistently when it’s 11-12ft tall?
Most paints are strained very good at the factory. However, if it left outside for a certain amount of time the sun can dry the material on the inside the bucket. In which you have to strain. It all depends on how the material was stored until you brought it. Every paint should be strain but …..

I would never sub myself. Just me though. Did it in the past and had horrible experience doing so.

Thank you man wish I saw this video before I finished the house first job on my own on a 2400 house
Thanks for the information on different spray patterns and recognizing the adjustments to the pressure.
Thanks Idaho painter. What’s the rule of thumb on how much coverage you get per gallon. Planning on doing a house with mostly flat walls. Thanks.
Chris I am a very big fan of yours. I run the Titian 400 commercial sprayer. Can you tell me what Titian Gun you would use for the 400

You mentioned Sherwin Williams ProBlock (oil-based) primer. Can this be sprayed? Does it need to be strained prior to use? Thank you, excellent tutorials!

I didn’t strain the paint so I wonder if that’s what it is.
Good video. With the green 515 Titan tip is the amount of paint used less than would be on a red 515 because of the lower pressure?
I've learned a ton from your videos over the years, thank you. I want to paint my wood crank out casement windows but I am unsure how to go about this. I cannot find any videos on this from anyone. Do you spray the window when its closed and open it, then roll the rest of the sash or do you take off the sash and spray it separately? I would love to know the process you would do for this and what materials you would use. I've got an Airless and an HVLP available to use. God Bless Brother.
Wow! There’s a lot of good information in this video! I work in a paint store and run The sprayer section including rentals! This is spot on!
Could you please upload a video about proper thinning of paint for airless sprayer? Thanks!
Thank you
Alex Matra totally fine to take it home and clean it
I had a client insist on "Back-Rolling"? Should I? Do I skip out on job for not doing it? Is back rolling necessary
i bought a wagner pro130 1600psi set no adjustment. i have to paint a whole house including ceilings, the house was all wall paper. i am using kilz original primer oil.
I was wondering the same thing.
Is Sherwin Williams perhaps the large paint company that has slipped and now has less QC? Just wondering who to watch out for. Thx
Super useful information brother. Thank you
Can you talk about the rubber/metal washer inside the nozzle that cradles the tip. I have one nozzle where this washer just falls out. Other nozzles seem to hold it in firm. Are they a universal size? Thanks
Would you highly recommend a gage at the gun ?
Can I get the whip in the UK? I sprayed 1900 sq foot 5 bed house today and I think the whip would help me with tight spaces and less fatigue on my wrist
Did you mix the 5 gallon with water at all? Or 5 gallons of stain was more then enough?
No water
Chris I got the nova ultimate 395 we are spraying interior walls with pro mar 200 eggshell spray pattern is weird I got it to no railing but heavy in the middle , so far 15 gallons, you think it’s the tip or pressure
Question on straining paint . Does it have too be strained or could you have a straining net around suction tube ?? Thanks
This is awesome! God bless you brother
What would you recommend for a small spray rig and tip for spraying water based polyurethane concrete sealers? I'm sick of getting roller lines showing in cured sealer and want to try spraying for a fine even finish
Good job am new hear and want to know the best tip for a ceiling spray and wall

I’m a DIY’er and I’m starting to get into the spray game. Do you leave your tips in thinner at all times when you’re not using them?
TS-99 i sell it in my store
I am looking for a good sprayer for multiple purposes, very interested in the Titan 440 since watching a bunch of your videos. I want to be able to spray cabinets and an exterior of a house when needed. Would you use this to spray cabinets with the right setup (tips, gun, pressure)?
yes
Does it matter which direction you spray? Left-right? Up -down?
Hey Chris, where did you get your spray test paper holder and paper? I’m looking for something a little smaller that I can take with me to my jobs, thanks!
