Give a shout out to your favorite paint 👍
Sherwin Williams resilience, and emerald. And I just finished spraying a house with kelly moore Acryshield. Never sprayed with that before. Really great coverage, and lays down beautifully.
Sherwin Williams now. But in San Diego, I was a big fan of Dunn Edwards and Vista. In Oregon I used and liked Rodda. Dunn Edwards and Vista have the best t-shirts!
@@ajsbrushworksllc8348 Have you applied the Sher-Cryl HPA? I paint at a hydro dam, I use it all the time. It's amazing!
@@jakahl1470 I haven't used it yet, but I do mostly residential work, little to no commercial. I'm a small business paint contractor, hard to get the commercial gigs, and the insurance here in texas isn't worth the cost. I'll keep that in mind though. I've heard of dunn Edwards, not sure there is any place around me that sells it.
Sticking with SW Superpaint in Florida, but I give it two coats.
My father has been a painter for 20 years, I’ve been working with him for the past 3 years and we paint newly constructed residential homes. We both enjoy watching your videos and it gets us motivated to go paint, we appreciate your videos man keep up the good work!!
That is awesome!
I used to be this guy, in San Diego, and for a while in Oregon. This man knows his trade. Painter's lead the way!
thank u
Completely appreciate this seriously good advice. I’ve been following you for years even though I only paint something once every 4 or 5 years. But I go through a crash course on your videos each time I do paint. Thanks. And God bless you brother.
I’ve Been painting for 17 years. Own my own business now. This guy has great tips. No bs 👍🏻 most journeymen painters keep hard earned experience tips to themselves. Not everyone can be a painter. Takes a special breed💪
Right on
@@Idahopainter Same here. I have been painting in Sarasota, Florida for twenty years and am just now getting to the point where I am going to start spraying. Videos like this make me understand what I can do, as a solo artist, if I get handy with a sprayer. Love the tips, it's so generous. Love the biblical references.
Been very much enjoying your videos. I pride myself with cleanliness and efficiency. A sign of a true pro is the cleanest of painting clothes..
Your demonstrations are awesome. I am grateful for someone like yourself who shares. Im unemployed and this is my side jobs to keep my family fed. God Bless
Thank you very much for all your knowledge and professionalism, I've been painting for 22 years now and worked at very reputable painting companies but now paint and drywall for a construction company and they're great to work for, I'm a residential painter by trade, interior and exterior new construction and repaints, we use to paint alot of car lots and for production we'd put in a bigger tip and turn the pressure way down and we'd backroll so we had no over spray because it wasn't being atomized with higher pressures but basically like a garden hose, of course if you're not backrolling you cannot do this but the older journeyman painter's taught us this technique, we didn't do this on any smooth surfaces, just drivet, blocks, cinder blocks. Thank you so much for your channel Idaho painter and I watch and learn more all the time from you all.
Great tips on solo painting house exterior. I learned a bunch and you saved me a lot of time. Thank you!
Really great tip with the lid cutout. Thanks! 👍
Glad it was helpful!
You bring up a good point about the sun shining on the surface and a wet edge. You should see how some of the products in Florida "tiger stripe" because people use cheap products and in many cases, you cant avoid the sun. Evening paint jobs look the best here. Thanks for your channel. You helped this master carpenter get his custom carpentry jobs looking pro!
Glad to help
gm brother, I enjoy watching you videos… I do lawn care and window cleaning in San Antonio and the other day your 7 year old video helped me replace the rope on my extension ladder… ty appreciate what you do sir
Thank you for sharing🤙I am glad it helped!
Wow. Awesome video! Excellent tips and info as always. Thank you Chris. You’re ‘The Man!’ Rock on.
Thank you for sharing and for your support🤙
Hey Chris, wow, right back to basics, one man painting a house, you've come full circle, glad to see you really in the teaching business. Thanks so much you've helped me so much.
Thanks 👍
I use a little plastic to keep my hands clean when straining. Super easy. Even a latex/nitrile glove helps. I also have been using a big plastic shower cap thing from Sherwin Williams with a hole cut into it to cover my five gallon or one gallon buckets. My dad has been cutting those lids like that forever (30+ year pro painter) but i think my way works a lot easier. They also make much easier lids these days so you could even cut or drill out a hole in that.
Thank you Mr.
S.W. Is having their summer sale bucket.! I will follow your advice of buying stuff for future projects and save some money.!
good idea. However some companies like Miller offer those prices daily
I've been a painter for 5 years. Never thought I'd finish that damn house.
LOL
The John Cena of painting
😅
Great job. Great video. We use ladders and planks a lot which helps get across those wide high areas.
Cool, thanks
Your technique is mesmerizing... so pro!
thank you
This guy is the best.
HANDS DOWN THE BEST REFERENCE/HELPFUL ADVICE FOR ANY ONE OF YOU THAT WANTS A QUALITY PAINT JOB DONE RIGHT🤜🏻
you have to get your hands dirty BEFORE YOU EVEN START HAHA that make me laugh!!!
again, very inspiring Sir!
regular viewer, South London, U.K👍
Thank you kindly
It’s spitting because its the glidden. I used glidden on Exterior HomeDepot I use to spray all of them on longisland one thing I notice about glidden is the color fades extremely fast within 2 years the paint job looks very very dull the worst fading paint by far it looses it sheen after a year and Becomes very spotty then starts loosing its color, I paint high risers in NYC love the channel brings me back when I painted homes, favorite paint I keep it simple Regal everything to be safe superspec is the lowest I’ll go lol
I agree
Damn! You are wealth of information! And like the idea of laying out three ladders in a row before spraying. I'm glad I found your channel before my cabin solo paint job. Do you a video on boom lifts? My place is super tall (12:12 pitch) on a grade and has lots of glass so ladders may be precarious.
2, 5/15s. Good idea. I typically use a 6/21 for exterior.
I received the Sprayer Saver from your shop a few weeks ago and I love it! It really helped to get the last bit of paint out of the bucket.
oooh i need this!!
Glad you like it
So much appreciation for you and your vids!! Curious what you charged for this job? Just getting started and doing a friend’s house for an hourly rate plus supplies and small tools to keep for myself.
Hey Chris! Always appreciate your videos, man! Is there a rule of thumb on when it's necessary to primer the entire exterior prior to painting?
Awsome stuff man..thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thanks for the knowledge you are the best 💪🏻
Good job... Im painter from Indonesian...
thank u
Great video Chris, I really appreciate the info and detail you always provide. My question is around the number of coats of paint to use and do you often put a second coat on the jobs you're working or do you dial up the settings and dump more paint on the target so you're finished in one pass?
Thanks,
Tom
One coat dial it up but I'm not an experienced that a good spraying back row is the best way to pennecrate the wood outside or inside
Ahh I like the bucket tipper thing. I used a lid today for one. I should make a vid of the job I am on tomorrow for ya. And I hear ya on th neck pain thing. My whole neck is fused front and back and I have occipital neuralgia for life :-(
But see some of my recent videos for some COOOOOOL tips :-)
Thanks for all the vids. Binge watching them all. A question about pausing. What to do with the sprayer when waiting the dry time for second coat?
Great tips, just wanted to know is there faster way to paint the trim
Just found your channel and thanks for all the good advice. I have an older graco PT2500 I'm trying to find a obsolete part for 218-727 and called graco, they said I'm not going to find it. Don't think I'll be buying graco anymore. What would you recommend for a diy home painter? Thanks again.
Great video, what did you think of the glidden premium exterior paint... Thinking of using it soon.
When I'm in a ladder and I need to have a starting point in the middle of a bord I make a fast loop instead of a square stop to have a random ''zipper''' overlap.
I've never seen it explained if 2 traditional coats are ever done with a sprayer (like a cross hatch) or if the 50% overlap is considered 2-coats. Thoughts?
i suggest you use a fine filter on your spray gun , that will solve the issue , just a tip to consider
Unfortunately I am based in South Africa and most of the products you use I cannot find in this Country and if I have to import the products it is very princely with our exchange rate but I love watching your videos they are very informative thanks
Chris, looks like you're OK with not back brushing on this job. Are there times when you would back brush behind your sprayer?
Every time you do stucco you should back roll the stucco to make sure all the little crevices are filled and nothing flashes
Love your channel! Should I thin latex for spraying? Do you have a video on paint recommendations?
Questions: I’m using a graco x19 pro with a 50’ hose and a 515 tip and spraying walls and ceilings with SW Duration Matte. Do I have the right tip for the job? How much should I thin the paint? I’m going to be using a want too but not sure what size yet (I’m short, so I was thinking 40”)
This is like super troopers where they pull the people over and say rabbit fer
Appreciate all the informative videos bro. I always catch something new and very useful in your videos. Keep up the good informative work. And liking the merch.
I appreciate that!
Hey I like your info on the tech of spraying,, I am doing a stucco paint job Solo,, for a friend of a friend.. he saw the job I did for his buddies garage and just said I want you to paint my house.. so that's what I'm in progress doing now this week.. I have a small Graco 390 with the pro gun and 12" extension.. I didn't want to use the gun that came with and got the Pro gun. That was a smart move on my part cause they don't tell you it's a pos gun to use if your doing multiple Jobs.. now I'm going to use the 521 tip for the stucco job cause I just happened to find it hiding in my tool,, lol I know the 515 is a great tip. But I'm worried that the elastomeric paint will be to thick for it to push thru the 390.. is that going to be a issue with the product that I have? And what would the overlap be on a tip like that being Solo and backrolling with a big fluffy 1" nap,, or should I find a helper to come behind me and hit it..and I see that you strain your paint the way I was taught many moons ago. I've learned a less Messer way and been doing that ever since. I just take the 1 gallon strainer and wrap it around the feeder hose and boom it strains as I go.. it works great and I have gotten used to do it that way,, I just recently found your channel when I was looking for some good advice or techniques I can use on this job.. my lil sprayer is a decent one so I'm used to that.. I just had to dust off the cobwebs and clean it up for the garage job and it is still pushing the flow of regular latex. But I haven't pushed any elastomeric thru it yet so I'll find out fairly quick if it can. Or have to barrow a commercial one..I think it's the next size up from the 390st..
Well,, hey Brave!? I didn't get a chance to find out about how the elastomeric paint flowed thru my 390.. the customer had the wrong color mixed and ended up with 10gal of the wrong color. Lol..so he went back to get the correct color and brought back some midgrade HD paint that was the primer and finish in one..so he forgot to get elastomeric paint and the same color that was on the house to begin with... That was the 3rd mistake he made and all I could do at that point was to just repaint the whole house in a slightly darker color and the trim paint was the darker shade of gray and he wanted me to just use the elastomeric for that.. the sample he took was misunderstood at the store for being the color he already had..lol.so I will give that to the employee mixing the paint..an not listening to the customer and not paying attention to what he wanted..so I completed the job and it looks like a decent paint job.. no overspray , drips or runs,,and it took every drop on his house cause it was so dry.. I still did the. Backroll thing and it drank the whole 10gls.like it was Beer!!. Then I sheerocked the inside of his garage and ended up with the left over elastomeric paint he didn't want witch I'm going to spray my house with this weekend..lol
I am just getting into spraying and was wondering if you have to thin down all paint do you have a certain guideline you go by. Thanks and God bless brother
I never thin my paints
As everyone has said thanks for your videos. I noticed when you had the two heads on you were doing about a 75% over spray. You didnt seem to be moving any faster using the dual head as you do with the single head. So was that intentional for proper coverage? I noticed this when you were doing the porch ceiling . Thanks Again
Great video , how were you not getting spits when using a long extension
I have a video on the subject
Hey Chris, bang up job on the video as always. Question: When can you and when can't you get away with NOT back rolling after spraying? My guys always tell me spraying without back rolling is bad.
I just watched your video on back rolling, I'm good now, thanks!
thank you for your help
Straining it also aerates the paint so it’ll flow smoother.
interesting
I am currently using a Chinese product called rongpeng. I must say I do not have a problem with it but I wish I could get hold of the products you are using
Is it bad to start painting the side of a house from the bottom up? I wanted to start before the cardboard shield holder I ordered from your store comes.
Hi, Chris. Quick question, maybe it shows in your masking video, but I see you’re running the paint onto the white trim and from the video it looks like the tape is only set to cover the windows. And as I’m typing this I saw the shot of you on the roof with a brush. Is it just that much easier to hand paint and touch up the trim with the brush just so you can rock through the big surface area stuff with the sprayer without having to waste much time taping up the trim? Or what is your process with that/your idea behind that? Thank you in advance. I appreciate the time you put into these videos. They’ve helped me avoid so much of the trial and error phase when I bought my sprayer and was able to start painting with lots of veteran know how even as a novice
Just watched the masking video. My questions is answered. Not use to people being so thorough. I’ll be sure to check out all parts first next time. Thanks again for the content.
When painting a door or gutters you recommend a 310 tip. Is this using the same exterior paint, like Superpaint, that recommends .15-.19 or are you choosing a different paint in the same color with different specs?
Shot SuperPaint with a 310 for 12 years on doors. Works fine. The can is only guidelines written by lawyers for the most part.
Glidden? I guess if the customer asked for it, other than that I would never touch that paint
It actually performed well
Benji quality 👍🏻
To be honest with you the Glidden now in days a lot better then your top quality paint at lowes or home depot brands.
Paint Life TV i’m sure it sprays on fine and looks decent when it’s dry but any paint you can get for $10 a gallon at Home Depot is not something I would use personally on a customers house. but like I said if they have no problem with it, and you like it, then to each their own.
edgar romero . The only reason I don’t prefer it I have used Benjamin Moore paint for almost 25 years, I personally don’t buy any paint from Home Depot or Lowe’s but I do know this brand I’ve seen gallons for as low as $10 apiece. But I do know there are inexpensive paints that work pretty well. But my company personally would not use this stuff on any of our Jobs. But to each.....👍🏼
Do you ever show how you organize your van or paint vehicle?
I have a couple videos on it
Sherwin Williams said their Super Paint doesn't need straining. Your thoughts?
I've never seen you back brush or roll? how do you touch up if you dont back roll or brush?
I would be very interested to see a video on how to paint an Ombre wall with an airless paint sprayer.
Some day
What’s a good brand of paint/stain that you would recommend for painting interior brick?
H&C
I noticed on your first pass you did vertical passes on the horizontal siding, then came back and did it with the "grain" horizontally on your second coat, is that your standard procedure?
To eliminate flashing
Which airless paint sprayer do you recommend for inside and outside if that make a difference
Im looking to buy a nice used paint sprayer, where is a good place to look?
What is the smallest job you would use a typical commercial airless sprayer on? Like half a gallon? 5 gallons? I don't have experience yet with my sprayer. I'm thinking about how much paint waste, cleanup, etc vs time saved and quality of finish. I have some cabinets I would like to paint. I ended up painting them with a brush and small roller, but it took a long time, and I didn't like the finish quality. I'm a homeowner, with no plans to be a pro painter. I do plan to paint my home's exterior sometime soon as well. This is probably a no-brainer for using the airless sprayer.
I would spray a shed
How do you control the spray mist when there is no wind blowing from affecting other completed parts of the walls/ceiling ?
Just curious, how many gallons of paint went on that house? Single coat?
Can you use that T5 with SW Duration? Thanks for video!
Either you haven’t a lot of videos on this one house, or all Idaho homes look the same! Lol.
Can you do a video on painting tall vaulted ceilings from a scaffold with a sprayer
Will do
Do you always spray the soffit above the same colour as your wall?
is it bad that next paycheck i’m probably gonna buy all 5 pairs of eye protection 😅🤩
After watching many of your videos, I just noticed your almost stealth “yo” that you say quite often. Interesting. They’re not verbal pauses, just random yo’s here and there. What part of the country did you grow up in?
So Cal
I'm changing a dark trim to white. If the base color is lighter, will it "prime" the dark trim enough when you spray the base coat or do you need to officially prime the trim with a tinted primer before changing it to white? Thanks for the series.
it will with quality paint
Why do you strain the paint
A skin starts to form on the exposed paint surface. Lumps up & clogges the line & the gun.
Chris, if it was a complete color change would you have sprayed two coats? What your practice on that?
i sprayed two coats on this house
You should do a review on Glidden paints
Its coming
You’re the best
Thanks
How long do you have to paint to get that bicep vein?
On those stop points in the middle of the field is it a good idea to get in the practice of lifting up or backing off as you approach those points to lighten the paint application there?
Yes, exactly
@@Idahopainter feather it bro, feather the edge
Do you remember your bid for this house. I just bid a two story house( 2,300 s.f.) and two car garage for labor only 6,000. Any thoughts? With little prep.
Sorry I do not
I have a question for you have you noticed a difference between the Glidden paint from Home Depot and the actual Glidden paint?
I have not compared but I am sure there is a difference
How many coats of spray paint is needed on the exterior of a house (I do get snow)
? Second question - Do you need to back roll immediately behind spraying?
Two coats
👍
🤙
How do I know if I need to thin my paint before using my airless sprayer?
any recommendations for 2 gentlemen wanting to start a painting business? Located here in San Antonio TX!

Hi Chris which tool pack u wearing?
How would you go about painting a good size home that has a eggshell latex but has stained trim, fascia, shutters, doors? I want to spray but seems like it will be more work to cover everything.
Tape off all the areas not to be sprayed
any tips on spraying block primer?
When to use paint primer mix or just paint
I have a question. I just painted all of my walls semi gloss white. I hate it lol...Do I need to sand them to put another semi gloss color on top of that or can I just paint over it with another semi gloss color? They are currently white and I want to go light grey
Just paint over, as long as it was latex and youre putting latex on top again
what kind of strainer do you use
hi
