Great video! Another way to protect the cement without using paper is to simply put a drop cloth down so that it covers about 2 feet into the garage and the rest outside. Once the door is closed, a tight seal is formed and no overspray goes onto the driveway. Easy, cheap and super fast!
Thank you. Was always wondering what other painters do about painting behind the weather stripping. I’ve had white doors that were painted black that shift slightly when lifted to the up position, revealing the paint line. Typically I don’t paint behind the weather strip either, but sometimes you have to. If the overhead door has a large arc as it opens, you can lift the door while spraying and it reveals the hidden part of the surface behind the weather strip.
We have a smaller sprayer like that, it just wont keep up pressure wise. We keep it around and use it to spray on solutions on decks and fences etc when were power washing…it comes in handy for things like that for sure.
I painted mine with a 4 inch wall brush and Kelly moore epic in Antique White. I think mine came out better than if it had been sprayed personally. Yes each coat took an hour but still. Homeowners request. I also caulked around the window panes amd replaced the weatherstripping on the bottom. Attention to detail i think is crucial.
I didn't realize you were only painting vertically and getting enough coverage! I tried that and I could see a square pattern so I needed to do a second pass horizontally to make to paint job look even.
I get caught in between the choice of doing all the prep and sprayer setup vs just brushing it. Spraying it def looks better. Also, it actually took you less than 2 minutes. :)
I need to patch up some scratches on my metal garage door like the one you sprayed/worked on in this video. Did you use the gloss white paint or semi gloss?
You rock Chris! When painting a new metal insulated garage door would SW Duration paint be okay are is there a better/special paint to use? If I remove the side seals for painting would they run off or bridge to the paint in the summer heat once reinstalled?
Don’t move the door after painting. Activating the automatic opener will knock dirt from the tracks, etc. The door will also pick up more debris in a horizontal position than vertical. To keep the side weatherstripping from touching the door use a large foam backer rod under it. This will give you a space for paint to go under the weatherstripping and keep it from sticking to it.
Good tips about opening the door as it’s drying to prevent the Wx seal from welding itself to the paint. I bet that was a painful lesson 😞 Good lesson learned for people trying to cheap out on inferior equip. also; Buy once cry once!!
Good Job Buddy, with much respect I would’ve of Done 2 coats (mist) fog coats. but got respect 🫡 for the Goat 🐐. Also Buddy with spraying with 5-17 Tip and 2200 psi that will get downfall (overspray) on cement. 2 seconds to put a drop cloth!
I'm with ya! Two thin coats dries better and you know you're gonna catch any missed spots. But yeah he's hot his own way and seems to be working put for him. Lol
Normaly there is no need to remove your tape from the Tough Gaf when needed. You can pull your tape directly out of the hip and youse your Tough Gaf as a Tape Dispenser. Way faster as remove the tape every time.
I also tape 'tight' on the verticals as needed, and follow with the drop cloth because most driveway surface situations, the tape will not stay 'stuck' due to mother nature's dust, dirt, and so on. Just a reminder.
@@Painfulwhale360 of course not you have to release the door then at the point where the door starts to bend to go up to can paint with brush or rattle can ..looks cleaner on a colored door so that you don't see factory color or primer when the door raises and closes
Why the (in between sections) didn’t get painted? I always mask anything that’s inside the garage including the floor to be able to spray that area. Because everytime you open the garage door you can see how bad the garage looks from the previous color
When painting and it's hot, do you ever thin your latex, or hit it early when it's cooler? I have a titan 440i and was spraying the other day and the tip kept clogging. I was wondering if you had any tips for me? Thanks.
I would check with manufacturers before spraying, many recommend not to spray. Great video nonetheless and you obviously know what you're doing but as a door man for many years I've seen so many doors get ruined from being sprayed.
1.5" tape on weather strip then lower it onto a runner tarp. You have to cut in the edges anyways so why bother masking around the bottom? Up and down is the way though. I understand why you open it at the end but raising it over a nice car is a bit sketchy.
I sprayed a Garage door one time. it had a small hole in it. I sprayed it and didn't realize there was a car in there. Hopefully it didn't overspray onto the car. That's what insurance is for right? Lol
I think a good way to prevent this is go on the inside of the garage when the door is closed and turn the lights off. wherever you see light coming through just put masking tape over it :)
I like how the guy at the paint life supply company counter, just shoves stuff at the customer and the customer doesn’t even ask how much it is and it’s all supposed to be bro this and cool that and put it all in my account dude so it’s not like money…
I wonder how long time you be a painter I can’t see someone using any equipment wrong! Extension pole on a hand gun? And not using a clean shot valve? Hurts my feelings Don’t tell me you spray a duration That would be the end

💯 agree with this
He definitely already said that in the video
Hahahahahahaha
His guy is funny
Yes that paper laying of 1 min took too long thanks for the tip
Another tip is to make sure the drop cloth is heavy enough because it can lift up from air pressure
i bought a Graco pro magnum x17 recently, pressure for days. love it

I've used those harbor freight sprayers for a lot of years. They're good to you if you're good to them.

Prep also counts so much more then 2 min lol it takes more then that to clean the sprayer
What paint do you use, or suggest for painting garage doors and soffit/facia?
For a gurage door that has never been sprayed what type of paint do you need to use and does it have to be sanded? Thanks in advance.
Thanks Chris 🇺🇸👍
Very helpful. Thank you
The Harbour freight sprayer is great with stains but with un-diluted paint gives the same tailing issue.
Super awesome.
Great video Chris! Quick question how do you like the orange frog tape?
Do you ever sand or pressure wash for prep or no its not needed? Thanks in advance +
Good tips
I need to patch up some scratches on my metal garage door like the one you sprayed/worked on in this video. Did you use the gloss white paint or semi gloss?
I use an x5 sometimes and it works fine especially inside.

Great video as always, I'm pretty sure that license plate you have taped off is public information lol
You are correct
Wich sprayer and tip did you use for that job?
Do you have to clean the garage door first before painting it? If so what’s the processes for that
Power wash it

hello how are you hey A question where I can buy the pants that you wear
2inch tape on the weather strip .drops .And make sure you paint between the panels on the leading edge
could you paint between the panels while the garage door is fully closes and there panels aren't opened up?

Yea u can add a bit of water or u can buy flutrol from the store
Also the pressure might be too low or your paint/ machine could be dirty
What sheen do you use for metal garage doors ?
Satin
Mind sharing what paint brand+line, or simply type, you prefer to use?
BM Aura
What boots are you wearing?
What do you think of a Graco ProX19.
For a DIY sprayer it is good enough to paint your house
No cleaning or prep sanding?
What type of paint did you use on your garage door.
Same as house. Aura
you only pressure wash the garage door before painting? we have to scotch bright, deglosse and acetone then we prime the door before painting it
that seems for a certain situation, i only pressure wash as well and have never had problems
I also only pressure wash the door. I paint garage doors all summer and I've never had a problem. The key is excellent quality paint.

Sure, 2 minutes. Can do all day painting if someone do prep work
