    Hey man, just wanted to say I love your channel.
    I was renovating my first house, trying to get it ready for renters. As soon as I spent 2 days prepping the house for spraying, I got a 4 day notice deployment overseas. When I came back, I got orders to leave the area. I ended up paying painters to come and get it ready for the renters.
    I don’t regret the hours and hours of your content I consumed learning tips or the equipment I bought but didn’t use. The house looks great, it’s producing income, and now I have two houses in my old city making income, while I’m renting in my new city.
    You’re providing great information and your content has gotten better and better. I don’t watch that much anymore, but stay subbed out of principle. Keep it up, Dude. Glad you’re prospering.

    Hey man, watch your stuff all the time. I started painting for myself back in Feb(2019). I do all interiors, decks, and a lot of cabinets, so watching your spraying videos makes me want to start spraying everything I can. Where I’m located I can’t make the kind of money you guys can, people just won’t pay what it’s actually worth, and I’d love some advise on everything I need to spray. Like what type of sprayer, gun, tip, hoses, etc that I could buy, without breaking the bank, to make my work somewhat easier.

    Since chb is hard to find these days, I've found valspar ultra ceiling covers great, its pretty thick, but it dries basically deas flat and is around 125 a 5gal bucket. I actually like the valspar wall paints as well. Ultra and signature are both affordable paint options that i prefer to cashmere in many cases

    Glidden all the way. Their Diamond paint is awesome. They are ppg now( uugghhh) but the Glidden name still means quality. I painted professionally for over 40 years. I used to get Ultra Hide from the Glidden store for $9 a gallon. I would box the paints if more than a gallon, adding a small amount of water and about half a pint of Floetrol. It would never spatter, and always dried slowly so cut and roll were flawless and blended as if sprayed even when there was a lot of cutting in

    Hi Chris, love your channel very informative. Have an unrelated question to this video. I want to paint my cabinets and from what I've researched, Sherwin William's precat lacquer is a really good option. I stopped by my local Sherwin William's product finishes store and was a bit surprised at their take in my situation. I was told I needed to sand my cabinets bare before applying their precat primer. Thought I could get away with a deglosser or just scuffing. Any input would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance and keep up the good work

      My SOP is to seal the area knock the dust out with a blower let it settle then vacuum everything including the surfaces I am painting. Dust and dirt are often a big problem in basements. Then I spray shellack and double coat with the body coat. If your using a color have your paint store tint the primer to half the value of the color. That way your double coat will cover for sure.

    Still learning how to spray.. I stain blocked the ceiling and bankrolled. Sprayed a surfacer on the ceiling which made everything smooth. Then swapped to ceiling paint.. Benjamin Moores ceiling paint. Sprayed first coat. With a 514 fflp tip and came back next day and you could see what looked like ripples all the way down the ceiling... I swear I had the pressure dialed in... I was test shooting on a wall behind cabinets.. Sprayed it... everything looked good wet. Looked terrible dry lol... uuugh. So I Sprayed and quickly bankrolled a second coat on... but could see flashing.. so waited and then cut and rolled the whole ceiling and left for the day... the ceiling is about 8ft high. Runs front of house to back of house with windows on either side... I swear even an "ultra flat paint" the Benamin moore ceiling paint seems to have a slight luster to it... maybe it's because I can practically look down the ceiling because of it being low and a long run.. there almost seems to be a slight Lustre to the supposed flat ceiling paint.. I can't figure it out. Hopefully it looks good in the morning.. I wonder if maybe not letting off the trigger was changing the spray pattern on my first pass... from the flashing I could see it looked like maybe the spray pattern was heavier in the center and not even all the way to the feathered edges... so the thicker paint made lines and flashed from being slightly shinier.. it was like waves running the width of the ceiling front to back lol... just bad...

    I have watched a lot of your videos. I just helped my son paint the entire interior of the house. I followed your techniques and they worked well. What I found missing from you videos was clean up. We sprayed about 50 gallons of paint and the amount of over spray was significant. Every floor had lots of paint dust. I am sure every wall and ceiling also has it. Of course we did all this before the flooring and cabinets were installed. What is your advice with doing a job like this with respect to cleanup? Is it ok to leave the pray gun (Grayco X5) over night in the paint? We did. Just put the gun in a bucket of watch and plastic over the paint. Finally, we painted about 40 doors inside by standing them up and linking them with boards across the top. We did mark where the door went on the top of the door but the over spray covered it. UGH. Could not do it out side to to weather, bugs, the number of doors, .... Doing it side caused even more over spray. Can you comment?

      Carpet - Carpet film
      Flooring - Rosin paper
      Buy a hand masker to avoid overspray on trim, walls ceilings or windows.
      Leave gun & tips in thinner, run thinner through machine after you’re done.
      Power wash exterior before painting, bug repellent.
      Use that 9’by400’ plastic and hang it down with tape from the edges of the ceilings and you won’t have overspray on walls.

      I wouldn’t use FFLP tips for ceilings unless they are very very clean and already painted about the same color. Use the blue tips 510+ save the fine finish for trim

    • @pjmisley
      @pjmisley Год назад +1

      Graco makes a green LP tip now (not FFLP)... it's very similar to titan's hea tips. Low pressure and very soft edges on spray pattern, but not designed for fine finish like FFLP. You prob have to order online or specifically request that your paint store orders them for you. You can't spray quite as fast as a high production graco tips ( regular black or blue) but the patterm is amazing if you have clean gun and pump filters, strained your paint and have toyed around with getting correct pressure. I like 619 or 517 for ceilings

    • @ryeweskey
      @ryeweskey Год назад

      I used a fflp 514 on a ceiling with the graco 395 (sprayed benjamin moore ceiling paint) and I swear the first coat came out looking wavy.. low ceiling... long run so you can practically look down the drywall ceiling and there's windows at the front of the house and back of house so light runs right down it... having troubles not making flashing... sprayed once... came out wavy looking... flashing lines side to side... front to back of house and I was even test shooting the pattern... thought I nailed it...looked good wet.. looked terrible dry..
      So sprayed and bankrolled at the same time... made some texture difference lines... thinking I wasn't putting enough paint on ceiling and the roller would pull some back off where I was overlapping (sprayed 4 feet deep by width of ceiling then back rolled it (10 mil nap), repeat whole length of ceiling..) so that didn't look good. Waited and just cut and rolled the whole ceiling and left for the day... hope it looks good in the morning. If I still see crap I might try the blue 517 tip I used with the surfacer... maybe I'm not saturating the ceiling enough... even with all that light I'm having a hard time seeing the paint I'm spraying on..

      I'm working on a huge residential building right now using promar ceiling paint for prime and ceilings. It dries dead flat and it touches up really well. Gone through about 1000 gallons so far...

      I use pro mar 400 flat for ceilings and as long as there is a good coat of primer on the ceilings the pro mar works great!!!! And also I've used ultra hide which is a glidden product amd works just as good as pro mar 400 from sherwin williams

      Dont purchase the Blue tips anymore, Use the green fine finish tips, less overspray and reduces the chances of a rookie having dwell markings, remember wet on wet and you could also basket weave the spray on a second coat

    Man I've been painting for like 8 years now and been working towards starting a company...got a sprayer last week (440 titan) i have all the gear I need to do this (everything). Going to be doing new Construction for most part.
    Been watching your videos and there great...but.... i have a question.
    How do you clean overspray off of drop sheets. Sometime I have to use them instead of plastic and theybsuck afterwards because they just make a mess but i dont want to throw them out that will get expensive...so how do you clean drop sheets????

    I love your videos but the problem I see with you spraying the ceiling first is now you have to tape the ceiling when you spray the wall. And because of the texture of the ceiling it's going to be harder for you to get a good tape connection with the ceiling and the paper or plastic will want to fall down. It seems better to spray your ceilings last and lay plastic or paper on the walls.

    I know when it comes to painting there's a lot of different paint products and but when it comes up to the best ones to use you spend out at that extra cash with a better brand name that's been around for a while with a good track record.

    Wow your spraying direction is the opposite of what I was taught many years ago. It also goes against basics of light and texture. If you shine a light this case the window against an edge this case the edge of your spray it will show the texture more than if you shine a light along the direction or greater length of your texture. Basically to show texture you light against the grain and to hide texture you shine a light along the grain. I was taught you always role a ceiling in the direction the light comes in the window most. You say how you enter a room. I've worked with an other painter who always rolls not sprays a ceiling in both directions on way on each coat. And I have heard and used on a low ceiling the "italian" way of rolling a ceiling in all directions at once so that there are no patterns in role marks. When rolling flat paints on large ceilings I always add a paint extender/thinner so it doesn't dry to quickly leaving texture overlap. do you ever add extender when you are spraying? I am wondering if you can talk about different techniques you have seen or used and why you choose the one you showed?
