Thank you for the post. My 3 year old C270 failed a few days ago, and after somewhat extensive troubleshooting, I gave up and thanks to your post, i just ordered a C920 from Amazon for $60.

Your review hits all of the important points. May I point out a couple more things? First, my room is somewhat similar to yours with light colored walls and a window to one side of where I sit. My C920 does not show any extra red tint. Maybe the cameras vary a little or maybe it's something to do with the computer or camera software you're using, who can say? Logitech has free downloadable software called Logitech Capture which offers a good number of adjustments so you can "tune" the color a little, among other things. Second, it's worth mentioning that if you're streaming or on a 4-way conference call then your image on screen is quite small, like a quarter of the screen or less. In that case you don't need high resolution. The C270 looks crisp and clear at that size so you can save money there if need be. By the way, sitting closer to the camera and speaking softly will improve the sound from the built-in microphone on all of these webcams.
You have a good idea of the specifics you want in a webcam, so that's excellent. I should clarify a few things in case someone comes across this. I use OBS for my manual settings since it gives you access to the UVC controls. These have more customization options than Logi Capture. Logitech Capture does not have any exposure (shutter speed) or ISO (gain) controls. As for the the red tint, it's possible there is variation, but more likely it's visible on the C920 more in this video because it's juxtaposed with the C270 and C310. In isolation, you can't really tell. The same is true with the more expensive Logitech webcams like the Brio and Streamcam. The sharpness of the C270 could definitely be to your needs, and if so that's good. For me since I have a 4K monitor, even 1/4th of the screen is 1080p so all the imperfections of sharpness show. The mic quality is a similar situation where they might be completely sufficient for your needs. I'm just used to using more expensive USB mics. (Though my oldest videos had really bad audio and it's a night and day difference.) Just remember that getting closer to the C270 and C310 will make your face take up pretty much the whole screen because they have such a narrow FOV.

I'm impressed by the C310 which I might recommend to friends, agree with you on color and sound. Now I might upgrade to a C9X0 (probably the C930 as per your comparison video, sounds specially seems good) for some informal video shorts in youtube and such (and eventually a cheap microphone)

Yeah, the C920 will still look better. Zoom downscales resolution, but the quality of the initial image will still be better. Also, if you use a much more expensive 4K device like the Logitech Brio or DSLR even when downscaled, they will look a lot sharper than the C270 or C310.
