    Hello Rex, thanks for the video. I appreciate that YT seem to not like certain subjects related to reloading but I always enjoy your reloading equipment videos & hope to see more - whether they be hints & tips or reviews of new or old presses etc. Your presentation is about the most pleasant to listen to on YT. Failure to feed doesn't ALWAYS mean a short stroke in the cycling action. If the spring is still too heavy, it won't allow the slide to pause at the rear, long enough to allow a new round to rise up out of the magazine, and be stripped off the top. But, a lighter spring should fix either issue.

    I just contacted Canik, and they sent me a lighter recoil spring free of charge, to use with lighter loads. My TP9 SFx runs GREAT as it is, but I've got a feeling that the lighter spring will control the muzzle even better, plus will help it function with lighter loads, also. Win, win.

      You know, I've never tried contacting FN about a lighter spring. I've **heard** they don't support anything except the 17 lb original spring, but it might be worth trying to get through and just see what they say. Good for Canik for working with you.

    Hey there Rex, I know this is an old video but I am having failure to eject issues with my FNX-45T while using subsonic ammo with my Osprey 45 suppressor on it. You mentioned there were 3 different springs in this kit you bought. Where did you pick up this Glock 17 guide rod and spring kit? Did the kit come with all 3 springs or did you buy them all separate? Also did you buy them online and if so could you share the link? Thanks!

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  Год назад

      Whoa! I don't remember what I had for lunch (it's 1:30 now) and you expect me to remember a few years ago! Actually I do remember. I believe I got the parts from Brownell's, but when I checked them just now, I didn't find what I thought I'd find. Instead, you can get everything you need from Wolff Springs. BE SURE to get the guide rod as you cannot use the springs with the factory FN guide rod/spring combo. You'll get one spring with the rod and you can order a couple more. Stick with parts for the G17 and it will work.
      I can't remember if I pointed out in the video you will probably have to use a grinder to remove some of the diameter of the rod guide to get it to sit down properly. Trial and error until the rod installs easily and the slide operates back and forth without hesitation.

    I have an FNX 45t. I just bought underwood extreme defender +p 120gr. Do you think the light round is going to be an issue? I haven't fired it yet.

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  4 года назад

      Probably not since it's a +P load. The pressure will be higher than "normal" and that will provide plenty of head thrust of the case against the breech face. I may be wrong, but recoil impulse of the gun and slide operation are not caused by precisely the same factors. Recoil is a function of the bullet and charge weight, and their velocity. Slide movement is a function of case head pressure (thrust) against the breech face. So the recoil will be lower, but the impulse will be sharper and the slide action should be quite lively. Compare how far the brass is ejected by this load vs. a standard 830 fps 230 gr hard ball load.
      That would be a good question to post with some of the real experts on the High Road, Brian Enos, or Cast Boolits forums. If I omitted your favorite forum, just ask them as well and please accept my apologies for the oversight

  • @BRatigan
    @BRatigan 2 года назад

    I found Berrys need a good bell on the mouth of the case otherwise you will get odd shaving and misalignment issues with the round.

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  2 года назад

      That's absolutely correct. In fact, if reloaders will treat any plated bullet just like a cast or swaged bullet, life will be good.

    When I add a sound suppressor to my 9mm, I get failure-to-feed or failure-to-eject. For proper feeding and ejection, do I need a heavier recoil spring or a lighter recoil spring?

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  2 года назад +1

      Suppressors for semi-auto handguns usually have an internal spring system that allows the gun to function normally. If your suppressor doesn't have that, or wasn't designed for handguns, that might be the problem. You should not have to change the recoil spring in the gun. That's my 2¢ worth and it's probably not worth that much.

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  3 года назад

      It would batter the heck out of your pistol. The slide would slam against the frame part which stops its movement. Something would sooner than later break, most likely the slide would crack. Suffice to say, nothing good would happen. It’s all a balancing act.

      @@RexRoach Does this mean it is best to use light weight spring with light load and heavy weight spring for heavy loads and hot rodded cartridges?

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  2 года назад

      @@redjoker8640 I would use the factory spring all the time unless I had a pip-squeak load like this "Geezer" load. FN makes guns for the military, so they're not really concerned with real light loads. They make guns that are 100% reliable with military grade ammo and whatever else happens, just happens.
      My whole point here was that you can often "customize" a gun to work outside of its original intent (and comfort zone).

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  4 года назад

      @@CosmicDog91 Pretty sure it's the early 1-3 generations. You can get the Wolff springs from Brownells. As I recall, I had to grind down the diameter of the large end of the spring guide rod, the part which goes under the barrel "lug" area. I put the rod in my drill press and used a file and some sandpaper to reduce the diameter. It's a trial and error sort of thing. Not a lot to take off, but creep up on it. You'll probably get good results from 13 lb springs, but YMMV.

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  4 года назад

      Let me quickly add that the grinding was on the replacement rod, NOT THE ORIGINAL. The original can't be used with the new springs as it is permanently fixed for that spring.

      @@CosmicDog91 You're welcome. Take your time with the fitting. At some point it will all go together. For whatever reason, I can only assemble the gun with the "new" spring when it is upside down. Obviously not a perfect fit, but it works just fine once together and with light loads only.
