    Rex,
    I have been pulling my hair out trying to get Zmr Bullet Feeder to work with 55 grain 223 bullets. I have removed that microswitch a hundred times, bending the metal actuator every way imaginable and sometimes it works better, sometimes worse. I finally put a piers of painters tape on the actuator to hold it out of the bullet channel far enough that the momentum of the bullets will squeeze them past and when the tube is full the last bullet trips the microswitch. It seems to work but a piece of painters tape will only last short term.
    I am a design engineer, now retired, and recently called a buddy of mine that I used to work with. He is a EE! We started looking at optical sensors to solve the problem. We were just in the discussion phase when I searched for aftermarket designs to fix this problem. I came across your two videos related to proximity sensors. I was impressed at how far you took your idea all the way to 3D printing a couple prototypes.
    Today I stumble on this video of using an optical sensor, Bravo! This is exactly the solution I need. I reload currently on a pair of Dillon RL1100’s. One for small primed calibers and the other for large primed calibers. The only issues I have with Mr Bullet Feeder is the 223 bullets..I would love to purchase one of your optical sensor set ups to solve my issue. Please let me know if one is available and the cost and I’ll be happy to order one.
    Thank You
    Dan Henderson

    Hi Rex: What a great knowledge-based video. Even for a non-engineer and non-loader, I now understand how you put the device together and its value for its intended use. Thanks a million! Lew

    Fantastic add on to the bullet feeder. Ill be contacting you as soon as I get set up. Im curious. How about one unit, with inserts that slide inside, to support different calibers ??????

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  2 года назад +1

      I suppose that would work. I only needed the optical sensing system for .224 bullets because their light weight made operation of the micro switch erratic. Bullets above 80 grains or so seem to work fine with the switch.

  • @freerange4979
    @freerange4979 3 года назад

    The new Mr Bulletfeeder doesn't use that mounting system anymore. It has a clamp (a U shape) with a single bolt at the center of the U that goes to a hanger that hooks on the case feeder. So the adjustments you describe are not possible.

    Very well designed. Too bad I spent a full weekend figuring out the wiring on the previous iteration.... Which by the way works flawlessly as well.

      No, no, no! It's not wasted time. The proximity sensor version works every bit as well. This new design just makes it simpler. Congratulations on getting yours working "flawlessly." I love to hear that.

    Is it possible to get material list and drawings for this fantastic optical sensor relay Rex - ?
    Think it will be too expensive to ship it over the Atlantic Ocean...
    Dońt you make more reloading videos or have you changed channel... Rumble i.e...
    Yours sincerely

      Lars-Erik, I haven't made any videos of any kind in a year or so. I stopped shooting back when Covid was rampant and never started back. That pretty much eliminated my need for reloading and thus, the reloading videos.
      I have, however, redesigned the Optical Sensor for MBF, mostly to make it a lot easier to 3D print and to improve its appearance slightly. I have virtually removed the need for supports. It takes about two or three minutes to get one ready for assembly after it comes off the printer bed. Functionally there was no problem with the first version and the new one works all the time as well, but now it's a lot easier and quicker to build one.
      I don't know anything about shipping internationally, but I can look into it. I always provide a 12v "wall wart" power supply when I sell a unit, but if you leave that out of the package, it reduces the weight a good bit which is probably important for international shipping. I sell these for $100 which includes the power unit and U.S. postage.
      As to materials, the circuit board with the sensor and relay comes from Amazon and the specific model is frequently replaced by another virtually identical model. I bought a bag of 30 or so in case the future models change the location of the mounting holes and/or the sensor position. Search Amazon for light sensor relay and you'll probably find it. I'm now using a marvelous little LED that is super tiny and super bright. It comes with long, slender and somewhat flexible leads and I feed it through a "tunnel" in the plastic body then hot glue it in place. This eliminated the back compartment with its cover and hardware, and made it possible to eliminate most of the printing support material.
      You'd still have the problem of designing and printing the main housing. I've spent a lot of time and money getting it fine tuned and at this point would rather not share the design files. I'm sure you can understand that.
      Let me know if you'd like to pursue purchasing one and having it shipped to Denmark.

      Hi again Rex.
      Sorry for my late answer. Some times things change...
      Now I´ve got my own Prusa 3D-printer and will be happy to make - just a single one for my own use... Can we find out anything.
      Shipment is simply too crazy expensive. Have to pay etra tax plus customs plus shipmend plus fees for customs papers. Just cause it has to pass the Atlantic price is going totally crazy and weird insane..
      I´ll happily pay you just for a description and the STL-file - and absolutely only for my own private use. I´m not intending to go commercial in any way. I do´nt have energy or want to be dishonest to you, Pay-Pal is my possibility to pay you.
      Can we find out anything...?
      The very best greetings
      Lars-Erik

    So, Please tell me why this is needed? Do the .22 projectiles not feed wellin the standard MBF mechanism?

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  8 месяцев назад +1

      Exactly. People often inquire about one of my devices for 9mm or .30cal bullets. I tell them there’s no point because the MrBulletFeeder works perfectly with everything except small, lightweight .22 bullets. The small bullets often will not trip the micro switch and get stuck which leads to an overflow and bullet spillage. Believe me, I would never have spent a lot of time and effort to solve a non-existent problem.
