    Dude; I love you. You’re a real salt-of-the-earth sounding, no nonsense, real man type who probably isn’t fussy about what kind of beer you drink while you are yelling at kids to get off of your lawn. And here you are encouraging people to think about the future and their health by making an informative video about an excellent ebike. We need more of you in the world.

      @@kippywylie Right? The first thing I thought when I saw this bike in person was “oh man, it’s so weird looking that I actually kind of like it. But…will people think I’m riding a GIRL’s bike??”. Such a dumb mentality but it’s engrained in us. I guess that’s why I like the video so much…the vibe very much suggests that we should look past that.

    Thanks for the great review! I’ve been researching ebikes and 2 weeks ago ordered the R&M Homage… I had looked at the Nevo3, but decided to go with the full-suspension. I’m also getting the enviolo like you have, and I’m glad to hear it works well. Since I live in Colorado, and there are a lot of unpaved trails, I opted for the GX option with knobby tires, and a dropper seatpost. My bike will provide assistance only up to 20mph, since many trails here are limited to Class 1, which can legally go on any trail a “regular” ebike can. I want to be able to go on rides with my son and grandson who live only a mile from us. I’m only a couple years younger than you, so I know the exhilaration of being able to use a bike and “ride like a kid again!”

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  2 года назад

      That is so wonderful to hear, **Ludwig**. The Homage is an incredibly nice bike but I could not justify the extra cost for the rear suspension since I don't do any true off-road riding. I have ridden on some gravel roads and they were tremendous fun and no problem for the Nevo3 with the "city" tires, but real mountain bike terrain is beyond me. Mostly I'm excited for you to enjoy riding with your son and grandson. Your choice of "exhilaration" is a perfect word to describe getting back on a bike after many years away.
      If ever there were a do-it-all bicycle, the Homage is it. I predict a lot of happiness for you ahead.
      I will let you know I had a problem with the enviolo system initially because of an assembly error. However, Propel (my dealer) stepped up to the plate and we got the issue resolved quickly and it's been a dream to use ever since. When you're shifting to a lower gear as in starting up a hill, you can shift with only a minimal amount of letup on the pedal pressure. When you're shifting to a higher gear, you need to put a little more "hesitation" in your pedal pressure when you shift. It quickly becomes second nature and the joy of being able to downshift into a low "gear" while you're sitting still at a traffic light or busy intersection is absolute heaven.
      It's also been a revelation to be able to shift without moving your hands from the handlebars. I find myself constantly tweaking the "gear" setting to match the road, something I never did with my six derailleur bikes. I believe nowadays the road bikes shift with the brake levers (??) so the rider maintains a grip on the bars and can adjust easily, but this is all new to me. Love it!

    • @lvonbeethoven
      @lvonbeethoven 2 года назад +1

      @@RexRoach I’m glad to hear about your satisfaction with the enviolo… the rohloff seemed like overkill for me, too. I’m fortunate in that the Denver area has 2 R&M dealers, and one of them is only 8 miles from my house! When the bike is ready, I plan to ride it home from there… Thanks again for the review, and also for your reply!

    • @RexRoach

      It's wonderful to be young and/or fit enough to navigate hills and ten or twenty mile rides on a "regular" bicycle. My hat is off to those who can and do. However, for many of us, age and inactivity have made us unable to travel very far on a regular bike. My e-bike has opened vast horizons for me. Let me emphasize it does NOT power the bike for me. This is not an electric scooter. I MUST PEDAL for it to work. However, I don't have pedal as hard as I would with a regular bike.
      But it boils down to a choice of riding a mile or two and being stopped by the moderate hills in our town, or getting some help and riding anywhere I wish and much, much farther to boot. As I got older, I had to start wearing glasses to read. Comes with age. Not one person has ever accused me of cheating with my reading glasses. I think the same should apply to my e-bike.

Also, I wanted to mention that I enjoyed watching your ride around video of your home town and did notice the topic of the monument and I would agree with your sentiments! Happy cycling!!!

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  2 года назад +1

      Thanks, Carl. The bags on the bike in the video are from my local Trek bike store and are the Bontrager brand. Sorry, I don't know the model #s. However, I have since purchased a pair of Ortlieb brand panniers for my shopping needs. I'm impressed with these bags for their ease of coming on and off the bike and their large capacity. These are extremely well made and are priced accordingly. The model I bought is the Back-Roller Pro Classic, their largest bag. Even though they are, as far as I know, the largest bags you can readily find for your bike, I find them easy to ride with and to manipulate through doors into my house, etc.
      The small bag under the seat was intended to be a tire and tool bag, but it's too small for that purpose and I have removed it. I carry my spare tire, pump, tools, etc. in the Bontrager bag on the front which has a rollover top. I keep my keys, wallet, glasses, etc. in a small zippered compartment in the front of that same bag.

    Being a speed motor do you need to register it with your local driving authority and attach number plate when on the road?

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  5 месяцев назад

      Alabama doesn't require anything special if the bike has a standard 1,2, or 3 classification. In the little town where I grew up, I often took the bike there to ride and they required a $2 sticker tag that had been implemented to curb a rash of bike thefts. That's the only thing I've ever had to spend on the bike with the government.

    Ta for the video, Mr. Roach.
    When you mentioned the kick stand, I thought there might be an explanation as to why there are wooden blocks under it.
    Perhaps you need to adjust the stand down a few clicks? It looks as though it's possibly adjustable from the video footage.

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  2 года назад +1

      Good observation and I failed to fully explain in the video. The blocks were to get the bike as vertical as I could for the video. At that point, it was far too close to a "tip over" point. The stand normally positions the bike in a stable tilt where it is secure and not liable to fall with a bump or whatnot.

    • @onenexia
      @onenexia 2 года назад

      @@RexRoach ah, I see.
      Keep in mind that once you start carrying heavier loads you may want the bike to be more vertical on the stand.

      This is off the top of my head, Kip, bug should be pretty much complete. It's the Nevo3 Speed Model with nuvinci rear end and Gates belt drive. I added the front carrier rack, side mirror and bell. The Speed Model itself has a few extras like the very bright light, horn, bigger brakes and more powerful motor. I also bought the 625 (watt-hr??) battery instead of the standard 500. It's plenty of battery for my needs and I only charge it every three rides or so. Oh, I also upgraded to the Bosch Nyon control and I'm VERY glad I paid the extra. I believe the shock-mount for the seat is included. If not, be sure to add it. The rear rack is included and wonderful.
      FYI, I''m a big guy at 6' 1" and 240 lbs. The bike has absolutely no problem with my size. I got the 51cm frame and it's more than big enough. I also got the Tannus tire liners.
      That's all I can think of. Oh, almost forgot-the kitchen sink.
      Also, FWIW, I bought mine from Propel and I am so very happy with them. I've had some follow-up purchases and it's been first class all the way. My Propel person is Alexis. She is great.

      @@RexRoach Thank You for taking the time to respond on this. I'm on the fence with the 28mph Speed version of this bike but I think you're saying for your riding it's a plus for the added torque at lower speeds. I once rode carbon bikes and anything over 18 or so makes me nervous. My terrain here in Tacoma Washington looks about like the video ride along I'm watching of yours. Some hills, but not San Francisco style.
