I was born without the use of my left arm/hand and someone showed me this to help me be competitive in gaming even thought i lack one arm/hand. I want to order one now. TY for the review
🤣
Not sure if joking, but I like it.
I work an office job on top of a burning desire to play video games with my free time and I’ve started to develop carpal tunnel in my left hand from a traditional keyboard. I’m trying my best with a splint right now and a wrist rest but it’s not helping. Hopefully ordering this with the addition of a small wrist rest will help. I need to do something, games are pretty much the only thing I truly love to do. (As a hobby or just something that makes me happy.) and I need to do something about my issues quickly before it gets worse and I’m out of it permanently.
Great review, I have had my Azeron for a week, controller convert, I love this thing.
Thanks dude! Extremely helpful info on the Azeron. Just bought one now!
Thank you for this review. Ive been looking for something like this for a while and this is awesome. I used 12 button grid mice but those seem to be phasing out or are never the TOP quality. This is definitely something I will look into
same here the new razer naga v2 pro is 133g heavy. The v1 is 116g. I can use 116g but not 133, i send it back . Now i will try this with the G PRO X superlight.
Great review! I particularly like the overlay you did showing how the controller works during gameplay. Seems like a truly great keyboard (I have an ErgoDox and constantly having to take hands off the keyboard to manipulate a mouse feels like a huge waste of time).
Wait.. you still need the mouse. The Azeron is just for the other hand. Why are you putting both hands on the keyboard when you play an FPS, Kannon!?
@@MakeUseOf Not so much for shooters but rather for typing. ;-) Sounds crazy, I know.
Part of why I'm super excited about this is that (IIRC) you said there are both left and right-handed Azerons. So that might mean it's possible to use two Azerons as a full keyboard (a standard Ergodox has 76 keys and super small variants have ~50 keys). Azeron would have less than 50 keys maybe?
You can customize an ErgoDox to control the mouse with any input device, including soldered on joysticks and I assume through the customization options the Azeron can do the same thing with its joystick.
Thanks for the well thought through review👍
Interesting upgrade/update
Thanks for sharing👍😀
Great review. More detailed and great camerawork, better then the other videos I’ve seen. The part about driving in MW if you push the joystick at 45degree angle does it not simulate WD or WA. It’s a bit concerning if some games only let you have one directional movement at a time
Thanks! I wonder if a future firmware update could update that, the joystick is analog so it clearly has diagonals, there's no hardware reason it couldn't be done.
The opening statement is one of the most truthful and logical things in which I have ever heard a human being say in a long time. You’ve earned my sub just from simply exhibiting common sense.
Great review.
Very detailed and articulate.
I personally own two of these. The Classic model (w/ ergonomic palm rest) as well as the Compact version (w/ flat palm rest).
I have long fingers and from my experience the ergonomic palm rest works better for me as I appreciate how it keeps my hand in once place.
It would be nice if they offered some sort of soft or rubberized padding on the flat palm rest which would keep the users wrist from unintentional sliding around during gaming sessions. Overall it’s a genius product with common sense engineering and button placement behind it.
I’ve owned the Logitech G13, Razer Orbweaver Chroma, and the Razer Tartarus. The AZERON Keypad is better by leaps and bounds.
I used the G13 for years (mainly due to it’s analog stick) but the AZERON’s key placement eventually forced me to toss my G13 somewhere into a box and forgotten about.
Hands down, my favorite PC peripheral.
I actually use Splicing Tape for this purpose on mine man. Its super cheap and wont leave a terrible residue on the device. It also form really well around corners and edges. I recommend giving it a look. IT might help you like it did me.
That statement is not true lol just depends what game your playing. I play apex on a controller and destroy kbm players with ease.
This review helped me out ALOT recently hand a hand injury looking to try it out and see if i'm able to be competitive again.
Nice review (as usual). The last review I watched on this product was... adolescent.
This would put my OLD G13 to shame.
I saw one review about this product and immediately purchased one because I've always dreamed of making something just like this. Then I started going around and watching other reviews on this product and im glad I did because so far your review has been one of the most well thought out review I've seen out of like the 6 I've seen so far. You definitely earned a sub from me.
Glad I could help!
Good day. Greetings from Philippines.. Honestly, this is my 2nd time seeing this.. I saw it first with Hardware Canucks youtube channel and still imagining how does it works and mostly how does it feel to use it as new gaming keypad.. Really hoping to experience using it. And for sure, this would be a great demand in the market after few months.. Keep it up.. God bless.
Interesting idea, i just don't get why with this form factor they didn't go with the vertical mouse orientation... perhaps not to make it even more awkward to adapt? In any case, good to see some new ideas still popping up
I think upright would be awkward. With a vertical mouse you're actually grabbing onto it, but with this your fingers are resting , so they would havea tendency to fall down. A slightly angled model might be better though, sort of 45 degrees.
Not gonna lie, I miss my Logitech G13. The aligned keys literally screwed me over to play FPS on a regular keyboard.
Crazy thing is; I seen them go for as high as $400 CAD a couple months ago.
Woe! I am going to treat mine better than gold then. I got mine for like $75 bucks or something (years ago) because of the ergonomic design (busted my arm years ago and it is not ideal to game with regular keyboards. But wow, I cannot believe how expensive my keyboard is now! Also, you're right, I have not used a regular keyboard for gaming in years. Thanks G13!
The thing that makes me hesitate to try this is the lack of analogue stick movement support in conjunction with m&k control scheme in any game. Does it feel weird to have a 360° stick bound to 4 directional keys with no gradual activation?
May I ask what is that little pixel tv in the background?
and can you have custom pixel art?? Also Great Review!!
[Edit]
I have found the pixel tv in one of your videos. currently watching it.
Haha, yeh, love the Tivoo Max! Can do custom art, yes, I just suck at art...
I have used this for months the only ”bad” thing is the switches, they can break much easier than a keyboard. When I sent mine for repair it only took a couple days to get it back. Though its still worth it for sure
Yeah cause it’s like a mouse switch so don’t press to hard
I take it you live in the EU. Im in Canada, a couple days for repair doesn't seem likely, since it'll probbaly take at least a week or two just to get it back there
You kind of mentioned it but I'd like a clarification. I'd plan on using this for an MMO, so I'd be using the joystick to emulate wasd. Does it let you move diagonally when using it like this?
Yes, it sends both keys at once if you're diagonal.
I just ordered the compact version a few days ago. As I cannot use my right arm due to a motorcycle accident, I feel as though this will be perfect for me. With that being said I feel like it would be easier for me to get used too since I’m coming from Console. I purchased the Xbox adaptive controller to make it easier to key bin everything together with adding extra buttons if needed so I can play Cod, R6, etc...
Interesting - so you'll be aiming on this too? That's not an angle I'd considered, but makes makes perfect sense!
MakeUseOf Well, I’ll be aiming with it yes but to make things easy for me I will be using the 3dRudder for wasd since I can not use a mouse for right hand and the 3dRudder seems pretty amazing. But if you know a better way I’m all ears lol. I just want to get back into gaming.
The main reason for me to have ordered one is simply ergonomics and the long term medical health of my hand.
A keyboard is great like my 'Corsair k95', which is absolutely the best keyboard I've ever owned (replacing the 'Razer Black Widow 2013' with ease) but ... it's still a keyboard based on the unchanged design since it's conception in the 20th century and I notice that my hand, even with good support, is not in the most optimal position due to the way a keyboard is build.
I have no current issues with my hand and would very much like to keep it that way ... if this product is as hoped ... I can see it replacing traditional gaming keyboards for most types of games if not all of them.
A keyboard was never made with the intention of commanding a moving character on screen for many hours at a time ... so why stick with that?
It's due to arrive early May ^^
How is it?
I also ordered one, not sure when it will arrive, but I'm starting to develop RSI in my keyboard hand and I'm hoping for something a bit more ergonomic.
@@tmoore121 Ayy this is the exact reason I ordered one too :') Mine should be here within two weeks! Super stoked to have it.
my only problem with this product is the price, i find that a dactyl manuform would be more useful.
What's the learning curve on using it? And can you use two of the at the same time for the left and right hand.
Looking to make a lay down set up in a specialized chairpod to lay down
Two at once?! That's madness. But I don't see why not - it'd be like having two keyboards plugged into your machine. No drivers, but I think the software to program it might have issues not knowing which one to write commands to, so you may need to unplug one while you program the other, then close down the app and plug both in. I would suggest reaching out to Azeron for specifics though, that's probably not a common use case! Learning curve - a week or two of daily use, for gaming anyway. It sounds like you want to replace an entire keyboard though, which is a whole other level of difficulty.
@@MakeUseOf it's not difficult setting it up might be difficult just because it'll be hard to recognize both devices but nineteen Keys is still not too many looking to have it set up to where I have both hands on each one of them laying down with a headset VR laying down in a rotating reclining chair that for extreme comfort and even thinking about biking some type of pedal for my feet at the bottom of the recliner. Trying to make kind of like a pod set up where all you do is lay down and everything is operational from your fingertips to your feet and through voice control cool LED setup soundproofing around in a confined space and a good pair of earphones for complete immersion complete comfort and laziness. Calling the setup lethargy
@@DWSP101 Sounds amazing. Send pics or video when done pls!
Dark World Story's BlankFace Productions For me it took one week, but Im fairly young though
So wait...the flat palm rest is better for people who tend to get hand cramps because the curved variant forces you into a claw grip? Am I understanding this correctly?
Yes. The flat palm rest is a little more forgiving in terms of hand placement, so you can move it around and get comfy more.
the question is why are they not using sla. ordering one but seems like a no brainer
Actually, the opening statement is false. In games like Destiny 2 and Apex Legends (games that are designed for console), controller is better due to the massive amounts of aim assist given to controller input. All the top destiny 2 scrim players are controller mains. I only listed 2 games but there are many more.
Great vid (even though I know have Against all odds looping non stop in my head) and I have just treated myself to one as my Zboard Merc Stealth is about to die and they are as rare as hens teeth to replace
Is there an option to order both curved and flat palm bases so as to interchange if desired/needed? With developing/progressing carpel tunnel syndrome the best rest for me would be in the "To Be Determined" category.
Yes, you can order with the standard flat handrest and buy the curved one from the optional parts page.
@@MakeUseOf TY
i missing space bar button under thumb
I wonder why is the shipping so expensive.... I live in Lithuania (next door to latvia) and the shipping costs 20Eur (not including custom fees)
Ours was Fedex, and I assume that's the same for all and they avoid standard ground mail because it's possible it would break and not be insured.
Is there an update video??
That definitely seems more efficient and useful than using WASD, thank you !
Great review, James. Stay safe, brother.
Thanks, you too!
Does the 5 way directional switch work for WASD?. I heard on another review that the joystick was not as precise as WASD
It can be used like that, but having just had a go, it doesn't feel good. I've not had any movement issues with emulating WASD on the thumbstick, but I'm not exactly a pro so take that with guidance...
You can also switch the joystick to keyboard inputs like WASD for certain games.
Though I generally only use it for fortnite where side strafing isnt as important as say csgo, and also has better movement than kbm
3d printing doesn't put me off just the price tag doesn't reflect that it's 3d printed...For the price I would expect premium materials. Also it isn't custom made...it's a one size fits all but is custom adjustable. No need to 3d print it in that case. If it was made per user spec then you could justify the 3d print and maybe a premium price.
I wonder how good this would be for SC2
I mean some mice have buttons :/
also you can get a smaller keyboard if its so big you cant press another key without holding down w.
I mean its great... for people with disabilities
How you can use IN COD Warzone, analog Movement AND MOUSE ?
You can't. You set the joystick on this to emulate WASD, works well enough.
@@MakeUseOf Why cant the wasd emulation input diagonal movement though? If the stick is between a diagonal zone the keypad should be able to send two key inputs at the same time no? Seems something that can be easily be done with software.
Or you pull the Razer move just went "Okay people, so what do you need improved over the Tartarus V2?"
"Can we have an analog stick?"
"Yes, you may have all keys analog. Except the stick, that one really didn't make sense to have analog."
It's comical.
Thank you awesome video
Are you still using the keypad
Yes I am!
dang, with my dissability I can go back to play with a K+M again!!! I will get one :')
i don't understand how to use the upper keys on the classic and non compact version ?
Everything can be keymapped to whatever you want. You mean your fingers can't physically go up that high? They're easy enough to press for me, though everyone's hand is different I guess.
Just find this today and I'm about to get one for FFXIV I think this would be perfect

I bought it 4 months ago and now they have released better color designs: ((

What colour did you order?
These are no longer 3D printed. I purchased one three months ago and I am very pleased with it.

19 buttons at your fingertips. I have more than that within the same distance of reach on my standard keyboard.
How long does it take to ship I saw some one said 2 months on another video and anther is 2 weeks
Another*
And I live in florida
Ours took two weeks, but that was Fedex, and we're in Europe. Given the current global pandemic has shattered delivery times, and youre in a different continent, it's possible two months is more likely.

thats cool thing i get one and its great
This guy's awesome!
Looks like Freddies claw.
How much this keybord?
The answer is in the video or in google. Lazy comment
As soon as I discovered the weakness of My flesh it disgusted me
The problem is one the quality is still shaky two the price is way too expensive for it still being in beta so to speak. And also the adjustability may cramp your hand
It is up for debate. Consoles have much lower speed limits set by the software, and that's the ONLY reason the hardware is slower.
I ordered a half keyboard for $10
Then I realize I've been killing players for 2 decades since Doom to Apex Legends.
Now i just enjoying relaxing a bit on Diablo 2 clones using primarily the mouse xD
This, but it's a hotas throttle.
8:28 Not sure that's accurate, in WASD mode, diagonal joystick movements will emulate pressing both appropriate WASD buttons simultaneously.

You're right, this is either because it was updated after my review, or because I just suck at driving and needed to blame it on my controller ;)
I dont understand why this channel doesnt have more views
I KNOW RIGHT??
@@MakeUseOf I been subscribed since when you did a lot of giveaways but never won any lol
sorry, but the controller vs mouse this you said is the start is totaly up for debate.
give gyro aiming a quick google and learn.
Very interesting, never heard of that before and most controllers don't have that capability of course, but sounds like the next gen controllers may present viable competition to mouse and keyboard then.
@@MakeUseOf yup.
Playstation controllers have had it since ds3.
The Nintendo controllers for the switch has it too, also the pro controller

Good lord, look at how expensive this monstrosity is. And the pictures on the website has that shitty 3D printed texture on it.
Just so you know a pro just destroyed everyone on apex legends with a controller during one of the biggest tournaments in the world. He is one of the top players in the world.
Haha, I'm surprised it took this long for the fight to start from that comment ;)
Ok, but can it work for Minecraft?
It's completely configurable, so as long as minecraft has a keyboard option, then yes, this will also work.
Ya but can it play doom?
Yes..it matters that it is 3D printed. Sorry

Thanks! ... but why do you think it's pointless?

This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. Just buy a blackwidow elite
Well most people like it because it frees up four key that would be used for movement, and it provides 360 movement.
