The analog issue with switching between left and right strafe is entirely mitigated (and might even be better) if you configure the analog stick to send WASDsignals based on very little travel from center. The spacebar issue reveals (and you admit) that you're a little stuck on stubborn. Space for jump is a highly useless control in a lot of games where you can jump. "Mashing it" is never functionally needed, and many times is often a multiplayer expression. I use a Glove80 split ergo keyboard which has a 6 key thumb cluster. For Call of Duty, I make spacebar the easiest thumb cluster key because jump is quite functional in Call of Duty. In FFXIV, jumping in actually hard fights is never a thing so I actually make spacebar the most difficult key to press in the cluster, and you know what? I can still press it when I need -- which is hardly ever. I never need to press that key in the fury of a fast rotation and intense battle. All that to say, the message of "you have to train yourself" really needs to be followed to completion. I get it though, reviews from a place that touches so many different tools and tech must catch on quickly and move on.
A family member uses this product to achieve full capabilities of gaming when they only have one hand, the opportunities that products like this offer to disabled people are vast and should be supported. When ur raging but ur controller is expensive *silent shaking* But it’s alright just kick/punch a cardboard box I might call them a dic- but that’s just my opinion
As someone who has the ability to casually swap between thought processes, I have a huge tip for you. Don’t think of it as swapping “spacebar” to a different button, that will just confuse you. Ignore the input and set up around effect, so set a button for “jump” a button for “crouch” etc. keep those the same for each game and you’ll be fine, don’t worry about which keyboard button it relates to because that doesn’t matter, it isn’t a keyboard and there isn’t a space or shift key… This is how I’m able to easily ride motorcycles that swap between standard shift, upside down shift, shifting a car, and more with zero issues and I’ve never once missed a gear.. for me the muscle memory comes from the effect I want, not the input I’m using. It can potentially be very confusing to switch between something with built in muscle memory to something new, but don’t try to map your old skill onto the new one, that will never work… just create a new set of muscle memory based on the new inputs. Hope this helps
Its mathematically impossible for a stick to be instantaneous because if you're moving left the stick has to be moved to the middle then to right before you can move compared to keys where on key can be pushed while the other released. Yes adjusting deadzones would make it faster but never instant like keys
@@timerider5147 I had a similar device years ago, it's not noticable in terms of reaction speed once used to it (plus I play on console as well as PC so used to controllers as well) - its all about muscle memory and responding quickly - even a key has a degree of travel to it, it does also have the advantage that movement is analogue so your side movement speed can be varied, you can adjust speed of circle strafing much easier, move slower when peeking out of cover and perform a few other tricks when movement becomes analogue rather than digital. Plus using just your thumb for movement means your fingers are permanently on hotkeys rather than having to move them from the WASD keys to do other things (which can also be a hindrance if your suddenly need to dodge while your finger is over a hotkey rather than the movement keys), if the game has a lot of activated skills that can be a huge bonus - it has its moments with a few fps titles, but for MMO PvP its much more useful. At the end of the day though skills + situational awareness is more crucial than what you game with. Different people will get different mileage out of something like this.
3 days later: "cool now that I have my macros set up, time to play my first match" I love it, it would be cool to get to try one out. Or, get a second one custom built for the opposite hand and feel like a gaming cyborg god.
As someone who uses this for gaming and CAD: I love it! I personally have the low-pro version. The games I use it for are mainly solo games, and non-competitive fps games. It will definitely take some time to "re-learn" how to play, but it is infinity more comfortable. The software is very user friendly, and the discord is so helpful with any questions or issues that you may encounter. CAD is definitely a stretch for this but with playing with macros i can now design and edit a lot faster and much more comfortable! As someone who started out on console (ps1-4) this is a helpful transition piece but way to expensive to justify it for that purpose lol
I suggest a space mouse for CAD. It will improve workflow alot. Not alot of macros options available for it, but its so nice to pan, zoom, and orbit around.
I have played console my whole life and have been trying to get better at PC gaming. This would be a godsend because I hate movement on a standard WASD but I know aiming with a mouse is 1000% more accurate.
I have an Azeron for almost a year and attest that is 1000% superior to arthritis inducing WASD. Gaming keypads in general are superior to WASD, but Azeron is just the very best device out there. You get what you pay for.
Yeah, I did. I've seen someone experiment with this for a very long time, where each bone in your finger actuated a different button, and the whole thing was set up as a chording keyboard (look that one up. ;p) At first glance this looks a lot like that, but... No. XD
@@hanswurst6742 I have one and use it for dota, vastly superior than a keyboard for me... the switches that are hard to reach are not an issue as you have more than enough binds that are VERY easy to reach and faster than moving your finger to hit a different key on a keyboard. @@TheGoatFish It's stated on this video that it can perform macros. You won't gave to give that up, although there will still be a learning curve to using something so drastically different.

@@yolani3454 Judging from some other videos I've seen (I don't own one (yet?)), it works pretty well. Not only does it have the adjustable 0 angle for your preference, but adjustable sensitivity, deadzones, and even the ability to override it into a WASD input for games that don't support 360° movement alongside a mouse and keyboard input type (making up on the joystick act like W, up-right as W+A... etc.). Really the only issue I've seen from any reviews and videos are the learning curve involved and the looseness of the button inputs.
I paid £120 for my Razer Orbweaver Chroma a few years back. All things considered, $150 seems rather reasonable if you're comparing the price to their competition.
I come from console gaming to pc gaming a year ago.. Using a mouse to aim or look around is quite literally the best thing ever. Even if you've never used a mouse before, it still feels natural. But for the life of me I could not get used to using a full keyboard to move, coming from a controller my whole life, where you use one finger to move, to then having to use half of my hand felt like a step backwards. I started using a razer tartarus keypad and now I haven't looked back. It actually shocks a lot of pc veterans when I play competitive fps games and I tell them that I don't actually use WASD.. I feel like keyboards are more designed around typing than anything else, and have largely remained unchanged for at least 2 decades. Obviously if you're a pc gaming veteran, and all you've ever used is a keyboard, why would you change when you've become so used to something and it works well for you. But I think products like this are very clever and innovative, and perhaps a step in the right direction for more advanced gaming peripherals in the future
Gaming keyboards are still the norm because there's just so much massive inertia behind them. People just don't or even can't adapt to something new. And while it has been possible to produce something like this on a small scale profitably for about 15 years (see Belkin etc.), there just hasn't been much force behind it (see Logitech just giving up on the G13). Accessibility to market is much easier now though, through their being more gamers, gamers with more money (now heading well into their 40s+), and the Internet being so ubiquitous that you can sell something to anyone anywhere in the world and they'll get it with a couple of weeks max.
I think going from console to pc this is an incredible piece of technology, personally i would still consider this a beta version so ill keep an eye on it and see what happens 5 years from now

You can negate most of the issues with input problems by using big picture mode in steam. Allows use of just controller to navigate steam and select games.
Harles Bently Seconding Steams Big Picture Mode. You can rebind any Controller to virtually anything, and adding profiling support to a specific game/software is as easy as adding it to your Steam library as “external game”. Have been using it to turn one of my wireless controllers into a PC remote so I don’t have to get up from my couch to navigate Netflix and stuff. You can also set up custom force feedback profiles, to make use of your own vibration feedback when pressing buttons and moving sticks. It completely blows any profiling software I‘ve seen so far out of the water. And Steam is stupidly hiding it in Big Picture Mode, but oh well.
Happy to see something that is built from the ground up for people that game with the mouse in the left hand. I use a Z board Fang for my right hand, it's like 15 years old and I have no idea what to replace it with when it dies. This may be it, though I am into FPS like COD for which you said it didn't work at that well. Thanks for reviewing!
So your only complaints about this is "I'm too used to how I already play games" and "I don't have 2 monitors so reconfiguring keys is annoying". Besides that you have a big stiffy for this thing.
These are very notable complaints though. Having to relearn decades of muscle memory and tedious key mapping is definitely a hard sell for some people.
@@robertct06 but you do need him to tell you how hard the relearning process is. It's a lot more intuitive for example to go from a controller to a joystick than to a keyboard.
I consider this the best thing I got in 2019 I used tartarus/orbweavers for years for any game including FPS and I don't think I'll ever go back to them. Ofc this means I was already used to use my thumb for movement and keymapping. I can see the problem with changing directions and I felt the same. I'd suggest keeping a WASD profile and changing joystick sensitivity to some really high value, so that you can change direction by barely move your thumb. I did some light testing and with the right values it's faster for me than using the keyboard (but then again I am much more used to move with my thumb, so YMMV) I agree this is something that needs to get used to, expecially if you don't use controllers much. But at the same time, it's something that, once you get used to, it's, i'd say, strictly better: depending on the game you may get from no benefits to huge ones. If you only play FPS with no analog support and few keybinds, you can easily skip this. If you play a wide variety of games, it's really something I can't recommend enough. "you need to get used to it" it's something you really need to be aware before, but it should not be a factor in the decision in the long run. Bite the bullet. It'll take you a lot. Took me maybe a month of daily gaming back then. Totally worth it.
idk if this is a joke or not but there are different click sounds in mice, it depends on the specific switch that is used. some sound deeper, others quieter, and a lot of them just high pitched, and people prefer some over others lol

@@qm3ster I come from using cherry switches on my keyboard and I have no problem with it. It's kind of apples and oranges, but no issues here. The build quality is decent. I have no worries about that. If anything the switches are what I would expect to go first.
@@qm3ster 2 weeks of heavy usage and my switches are still good. I do with they were a bit harder of a click, some of them at least. But it starts feeling comfort quickly. And the fact I can replace my own switches means this thing is better than an elite controller
The "extra movement " is not a real issue. As anyone who has experience with consoles knows, most high level gamers train themselves to play with the look sensitivity high as heck to get the most movement with the least movement. Simply adjust the sensitivity, or dead zones, of the analog to require less movement and avoid pressing the joystick all the way to one side. Takes getting used to but it's worth it.
I guess maybe? I use wacom remote for work in photoshop, it has 17 customizable buttons, and its really great, but I still ocasionally put it down and use keyboard.
Your intro reminds me of playing Boneworks in vr for the first time. The wacky music, the unusual atmosphere, and the carelessness as you open the package. Feels magical. Thanks
It looks like those top switches are meant to be hit by your knuckles, instead of lifting up your entire finger and tapping them with the tip of your finger.
This reminds me when I transitioned from consoles to PC. I was such a noob at using mouse and keyboard. Now it's so easy. I believe the same muscle memory can be learnt with such a peripheral.
I have one of these and I love it. But at the same time, before I had one I used a Logitech G13 for a long time. So I was used to this style of control. I suggest if you are unsure how to map one of these, you use the "squeeze" buttons for the most used functions. Those are the buttons that press towards you. The most used button of all is space, and I have that mapped for my pointer finger. The next 3 I map to the most used buttons like reload, crouch and sprint. The buttons at the way top I like to use for Esc and I mapped the other top for a button combo of alt+esc for a fast game minimize to check on things in the background. It definitely takes getting used to for first timmers. But once you are, you'll wonder how you were ever able to play games without it. And using a normal keyboard will be what lesser people do. You know, the common folk.
Thanks for this. I'm still using the G13 and was dreading the day it stops working as there seemed to be nothing like it available. I'll probably switch to this and will just miss the screen.
@Reni4kill yes. People allways see rgb as a bad thing, but they miss the point. Rgb is not meant for turning your setup in a rainbow (which is quite nice but gets distracting quite quickly), but for beeing able to customize your lighting to any style or mood you like.
I can see this working really well with creative programs. I use Sibelius a lot for composition and notation and not having to use the numpad would be wild.
I own 2. For me the Compact is a much better option as the front keys are much easier to reach quickly. I use it mainly for Destiny 2 and it is amazing! Definitely can't strafe as quick as a K&M but I much prefer it now I have muscle memory down and I am not playing fingers gymnastics like I was on a keyboard! You can set the range of the stick to reach maximum speed without having to physically move the stick to the boundaries..that is a mistake a lot of people initially make. The reason Assassins Creed only worked with one or the other is because some games don't allow an analog input and mouse input at the same time. Destiny 2 is another example. You need you use "keyboard" mode on the software instead of "analog" mode. It is completely down to the game maker to decide whether to implement functionality for both at the same time..unfortunately some don't and you are limited to a WASD type movement in certain games. Fortnite lets you use both and by the looks of it RDR2 & Witcher 3. Takes a while to develop muscle memory, but for me personally it is the best of both worlds and an absolute joy to use!
Mikey Yeah! Took me some time to get my muscle memory down and find the bindings I was happy with but I don’t regret the purchase.. best controller I have ever used!
Don't get the compact version. (My logic was to be able to pack it for travel.) Those top buttons feel horrible and are too out of the way to be used quickly. Returned mine, also, the customer support was a pain to deal with.
Can you remove them? Like if you want to use wasd you could bind A and D with no extra buttons and make S as button but remove the upper key pad and then use pinkie as three abilities for Overwatch while using thump to do rest? :3 or you could set movement as joistick and forget AD spam lol and I want this
@@stickinthedirt892 You could set it up as a chording keyboard. Takes a lot of work to get used to using one of those. But the upshot of it is the number of output characters you can generate is the binary power of the number of buttons you are capable of pressing at once. so if you can physically manage to press any combination of 6 buttons, you could type one of 64 characters... With 8 buttons you can create 256 characters directly. Of course, trying to press arbitrary combinations of 8 buttons with one hand is tricky. (though in theory if you place the buttons properly you could actuate one with each section of your finger, which means 4 fingers can actuate 12 buttons...)

Such a cool little thing. I think gamepads like this are not suited for fps games in general. They certainly seem tempting for 3rd person and especially mmos that have a lot of buttons to use. The question of what replaces the spacebar is the only thing that has me on the fence!
Hi, on the off chance that you will see this and are still looking into this, the newest versions of this product have the joystick able to click inward. That could be your space bar
Been using the Tartarus V2 for a year now, definitely a lot easier to get used to, only wish the thumbstick was analog and the software didn't require a login.
Analog thumbsticks are honestly superior for movement in 90% of games, the problem is that many gaming keypads use a stick that's actually a disguised arrow cluster...which entirely defeats the point.
These guy’s who made this are from my small hometown in Latvia - Ventspils. Awesome to see it Dmitry review it. So far we could only read like some articles about this keyboard in the local newspaper.

I have used a razor or weaver for years. I also use the thumb stick for movement on that as well. It is designed in a more traditional layout and seems like a better fit for most right handed people. If this product interests you check out the orbweaver and the g13 from Logitech before you get this, they might be more in line with your needs and comfort. Good video.
I had a Logitech Keypad with a none-analog stick on it. I used it mostly for WoW. I really liked it, but you are right that the stick travel time really slows down back any forth motion making fast games a pain. A possible solution here might be to greatly increase the sensitivity on the joystick, so that it does not need to be moved much to reach max input. A physical guide that you could put on the device to limit the movement on the stick would help with that too.

If i could only play with one hand i would buy an mmo mouse (those that have like 20 buttons) to bind there every action except moving, and to move i would use my feets, pressing 4 big buttons on the floor, like if i was using one of those "dance carpets" but while sitting.
First world problems lol
As someone who has the ability to casually swap between thought processes, I have a huge tip for you.
Don’t think of it as swapping “spacebar” to a different button, that will just confuse you. Ignore the input and set up around effect, so set a button for “jump” a button for “crouch” etc. keep those the same for each game and you’ll be fine, don’t worry about which keyboard button it relates to because that doesn’t matter, it isn’t a keyboard and there isn’t a space or shift key…
This is how I’m able to easily ride motorcycles that swap between standard shift, upside down shift, shifting a car, and more with zero issues and I’ve never once missed a gear.. for me the muscle memory comes from the effect I want, not the input I’m using. It can potentially be very confusing to switch between something with built in muscle memory to something new, but don’t try to map your old skill onto the new one, that will never work… just create a new set of muscle memory based on the new inputs.
Hope this helps
We see this in a similar way.

The Terminator want his hand back.
First thing that I thought too hahah
Talk to the hand

The strafing part, you can adjust the deadzone for instant strafing.
Its mathematically impossible for a stick to be instantaneous because if you're moving left the stick has to be moved to the middle then to right before you can move compared to keys where on key can be pushed while the other released. Yes adjusting deadzones would make it faster but never instant like keys
Straddling speed is not that much of a deference to being able to free up fingers to perform other actions faster
Isnt being able to move at slight angles useful in FPS games too?
Zadamanim this thing was made for fortnite players, i don’t think he knows

I consider this the best thing I got in 2019
I used tartarus/orbweavers for years for any game including FPS and I don't think I'll ever go back to them. Ofc this means I was already used to use my thumb for movement and keymapping.
I can see the problem with changing directions and I felt the same. I'd suggest keeping a WASD profile and changing joystick sensitivity to some really high value, so that you can change direction by barely move your thumb. I did some light testing and with the right values it's faster for me than using the keyboard (but then again I am much more used to move with my thumb, so YMMV)
I agree this is something that needs to get used to, expecially if you don't use controllers much.

With 8 buttons you can create 256 characters directly.

@@guillaumejoop6437 I'm a racing game fan lmao. Use a steering wheel for racing games.
This is a great review, especially as an FPS player who might have the exact same reaction to this gamepad.
These guy’s who made this are from my small hometown in Latvia - Ventspils. Awesome to see it Dmitry review it. So far we could only read like some articles about this keyboard in the local newspaper.
I've always played on console, so I've always used controllers, I think this is a dope keypad I feel like controller players would be able to put some serious work in with it. I can see myself using one of these 👍🏼
I have used a razor or weaver for years. I also use the thumb stick for movement on that as well. It is designed in a more traditional layout and seems like a better fit for most right handed people. If this product interests you check out the orbweaver and the g13 from Logitech before you get this, they might be more in line with your needs and comfort. Good video.
I was actually watching this as a possible replacement for my g13 due to the number of kbs i have so I appreciate your insight.
Omfg this might be the ONLY gamepad in the whole entire world that have for left handed!! 😮 I don't care how awkward it is to use, i think i'll be getting this.
Almost all gamepads are for the left hand... Because then the right hand can be dedicated to the mouse (most mice are made for right handed use)
could be fun trying one for the right hand so you can have wasd+gamepad or gamepad+gamepad. lefthand gamepad+ arrow/numpad isn't very interesting.
This looks like it would be a neat accessory for something like Elite Dangerous
Yeah, even alongside a Hotas
Nah it won't work for space sims
I was thinking about Elita also.
@@lockin222 hows so? I use razer tartarus + vkb gladiator + trackIR 5 and they work like charm... Both in flying sims(il2 BOS/BOM and DCS), In war thunder and in elite dangerous.
Agreed. One of the main reasons that I got it
I ordered one the day this video came out. it came less than a month later. They have updated their packaging and the firmware was already updated, as well the software has been improved. I have loved every second of using it. the analog joystick has been a game changer. So far, I haven't changed any keybinds in the games I play, but I put the normal keybinds that are used in a majority of games that use kb+m to comfortable locations on the pad; admittedly I use my pinky a lot. The games I've used it with have been Halo:MCC, FFXIV, Surviving mars, CS:GO (anecdotally I think I've gotten better, but I admit I'm a terrible player at it), Apex Legend, Dark Souls 3, RE2r and 3r, as well as, some dabbling with emulators in retroarch. Thank you for this video, I have found my favorite pc gaming peripheral that happily compliments my razer naga (atleast until a similar mouse is made with a vertical mouse form factor).
It took me 2 weeks to get used to a gaming keypad. 4 years in and I never game without one.
ShallowDepression do you use the joystick or ”WASD” for movement?
@@jackenilsson5543 I do on the Tartarus V2. It's better than using three fingers just for movement. The Tartarus itself is not very good, though. Logitech discontinued the best pad for this a couple years ago, sadly.
@@jackenilsson5543 The joystick was the trickiest part to adapt to, but its 8 way directional movement, versus the usual 4 way (WASD) is much more fluid. It just needs a little time to build up the muscle memory.
