This wasn’t explained enough, the labels show one keyboard, so I’m assuming it shows what keyboard they’re using in every clip, but it doesn’t show what keyboard they’re comparing to, so there’s no real context
Isn't that the entire point of a blind test

@@bruhder5854 Yes, the goal is that the participants do not know what keyboard is using which switch. However, in many clips they are making companions to the other keyboard they have at the desk, and as we as viewers don't know what they are referencing, its hard to follow.

@@cc-000 I hope you know that keyboard is only hotswappable with only the other optical switches
@@cc-000 i mean that is a nice keyboard but for 60 buck's you could have gotten a gmmk from glorious as it is hot swappable and it can be 60% and you can put in any 3 pin switch (if you have a 5 pin you can just cut of the legs). It also has a aluminium top plate so that might be something that you will like.
@@cc-000 It's not a ridiculous budget. Don't know why you were banned. Probably just a mod having a bad day, or it was something else you did. You can appeal the ban if what you say is true, and you will likely be unbanned.
People at r/mk know a lot about keyboards. You just wanna ask the right people. Asking a question like: "what's the best switch" will bring in trolls. And there is no such thing as a best switch either. Ask more specific questions, or narrow it down to two switches (tangerines vs alpacas for example) and then people will give you different aspects of each switch and tell you which one they prefer.
It's been 2 years. Please redo this video with what's in the market today!
Video needed to be re-done after release. The way this was edited together was impossible to follow, nothing was useful apart from the comparison table at the end
@@ajburdett882 The problem is that LTT didn't give us the full amount of information regarding switch types and if they modified the keyboard for the purposes of filming, as these variables affect the way in which the user interacts with the switches. Whether the switches were lubed prior to filming or stock also changes the way in which the user reacts to the keyboard in regards to feel, sound, and responsiveness.
@@yakitatefreak I think it's safe to assume everything is stock. The problem was that when the person was comparing two different switches we were only showing one of the two that they were talking about and weren't shown what they were comparing it to, also they only showed us a handful of the switches for each person we didn't see everyone's opinions on each switch
I don't think it would add anything. It is already clear how uneducated ltt are in regards to custom mechanical keyboards. Sure they are getting better, but that is in large part to one staff member.

Throughout the whole video until the final table, I had no clue what was happening or what keyboards they're comparing. Love the prep and effort that went into this test but it was not clear what was happening at all
This video was edited terribly I was in the same boat
If they just nailed the first clip in each category it would be fine, they didn’t show the 2 keyboards they were comparing from the start so I was confused too. But subsequent clips just (I would assume) comparé the new keyboard to the one they picked before.
Agreed, should have always been "Switch A vs Switch B" in all the clips
Its edited in a way for the participant to only give impressions on the keyboard highlighted its true that they mask what's the keyboard they're comparing it with at that exact moment, but, its actually easy to know, as the winner keyboard should be the one that stays the longest in the table.
I had no idea what half of those keyboards were. I think one was called Zealot or something.

low profile cases like Drop Ctrls usually show the switches
I now understand the editing! It's not in chronological order. Every time someone is talking about a keyboard, they're talking about the one on screen. But there's no way to know what they're comparing against, so having on screen names for these switches would've been a lot of effort, but really appreciated. Most importantly, if the name is revealed, it means that the participants have done all comparisons and that was their final keyboard. I understand this was an editing nightmare and a challenge to present, but I still think having the names of all keyboard on screen ( so above the left or right one), sure would've been more effort but would be a million times better. Still, not understanding comparisons aside, after figuring this out it makes a lot more sense! good vid :D

"This is just the mechanical keyboard version of the Verge PC build."
If LTT ever makes an update on this, please see this:
1. Please please do a better format and table when comparing. As you can see in the comments, people do not know which keyboard you are referring to. The numbers and all that is so confusing.
2. instead of them just spamming randomly on the keyboard, make them do a typing test and test out the spacebar, enter, esc keys esc like most youtubers do. Trust me it is ALOT more better that way
3. Collab with someone like Taeha or any other well known peeps in this hobby so that you can get better information on certain keys and some fun facts and such. I understand that this is a blind test but it seems that too many people do not even know what is what here. Bottom of line of this point is to find a balance of knowledge here.
4. Please have someone to double check your timeline in the video when its done. To my knowledge, it has been Intro, Tactile, Linear and Most Replayed for the longest time when someone in your team could have easily added the Clicky category in.
It’s so needlessly frustrating to watch this video because of the poor editing, I don’t even know what two switches keys they are comparing at one time without assuming!
Yup, testing 22 switches with 16 participants would've needed at least a 40 minute to an hour video. They should've made this a multi-part series or released three separate videos on linear, tactile, and clicky just so that we have more in-depth reaction.

@@drwfrnndo As a builder and a keyboard enthusiast this is completely false, Cherry switches (when unmodified/unlubed) are horribly scratchy compared to the rest of the competition and the weightings are either too light or heavy as hell. Yea its like half a video...
Same I’m so confused wtf is going on
I think they cut the video so that they're mainly commenting about the switches that have their name displayed, but it's definitely confusing when the testers are directly comparing stuff.
Dont forget that they randomized the order people tested boards in to reduce order bias
So for the "MX Brown" section of the video they would have cut things out of order because browns might be James' first board, Riley's third board, etc etc
I'm not sure what a better way to cut the video would have been, given that aspect of the testing. I do wish they had explicitly said "these clips were rearranged to be grouped by board" or something similar
Everyone went in a completely different order, so they took the parts where each person was talking about the keyboard card on the screen so you got all of the information about 1 keyboard at a time.

I love my G512 Gx Brown Tactile switches. It just feels and looks so good.
Me: *spends 150 dollars on high quality quiet fans for pc case*
Also me: *gets blue switch keyboard that can be heard from mars*
Fuck quiet , you need power powwwwwwwaaaaaa
i mean keyboard sounds are satisfying while fans are annoying
Why does everyone make the same fucking comment
I personally like blue switches. I want my keyboard as loud as possible. Idk it feels like typing kn it makes it look like im doing shit but in reality nah
@@sayhowling haha same I love em

This is still a fantastically fun video.
Linus: *clicks keyboard* "You gotta live alone!"
Yvonne: "This one's more clicky and part of me likes that"
🤔
Genius editing
If I lived with Linus is want to live alone too
It's one thing to like typing on it and a whole different thing to listen to someone else grinding that shit for hours :D
@@LazyRASHO Oh believe me, I know. My roommate in freshman year of college had a keyboard with Razer green switches and it drove me nuts. Mostly because he would stay up until 2 in the morning playing League.
The editing is a mess. I have no idea which switches were on the table, what is currently compared with what. There is one switch name there and I have no clue which of the two he currently reviews and what the other keyboard is. And after watching that mess for 15 minutes the results are presented i like 10 seconds and you have to pause the vid.
Agreed. There is enough context to match the sounds to the switches for at least one person out of each switch type, but I can't tell which keyboard they are typing on with them swapping around so much.
Yeah that made this video super unwatchable.
Yeah ZERO idea wtf is going on
I love the content and idea, but yes...all your points are valid here
Yes . I skipped the video halfway through. Even then It took me time to process the final results. Driver 1 and 2? There's a secret participant? There's no overall winner?. Basically MX brown switches is the winner and wins the majority vote... that's what I got out of it, but it took me a while to process. What a shame that LTT is dropping it's standards.
Just switched from mech to wireless Rapoo dome keyboard that has flat notebook keycaps with some kind of mousepad build in, it's not even bad to type without key travel and my desk has so much room now. Only this thing and the screen on the adjustable desk mount, drawing and reading are possible on the desk again! The typing speed did just drop a few wpm.
They should do the test again with some good key caps. Good caps can make a huge difference also.
Everyone: mushy, smooth, clicky.
Riley: these are like oooooooo and these like eeeeeee
One thousand likes? Dafuq
tbh, that kind of information told me quite a lot about the switch
15:24
And then you have luke “it’s like typing on boobs”
Finally someone who’s doesn’t say thanks for 1000 likes and instead react with Dafuq?
Linus: "Stealthy."
Audience: "lttstore.com"
you have been trained well
Make sure you pick up the new AMD 8 core Nvme ssd
*Audience whispers: "lttstore.com"
"You want some ice cream, Ernie?"
"Sure, Bert."
And I still don't know which switches suit me best but the video was definitely helping me in my search ;D
Now imagine being in a discord call, with someone who has a high quality microphone, an mx blue keyboard and can type 180 words per minute
Yeah, I'm that guy you're calling with. I'm very sorry and I regret my keyboard choices because of the loudness. They just feel so nice...
*Insert Obi-Wan meme here* Well, of course, i know him. He's me.
and uses microphone without muting*
mx blue would be like bottom tier in my clicky category lol
@@Mr4Goosey I've been that guy too. Even though they were Browns and I only type 90 WPM.

Linus: "You gotta live alone! I'm sorry!"
Yvonne, his wife of almost 10 years: "This one's definitely more clicky and part of me really likes that."
Or: Clicky switches are more satisfying and enjoyable to use, and have the _bonus_ of making it so that your time on the home office computer is more likely to be uninterrupted.
@@Thalanox It was a joke. Personally my favorite switch of all time are the Kailh Box White switches
NSFW
That's being married.
would it be possible to revisit this video with current switches?
Temping as a word processor in the 90s, I was put in front of my first original IBM Model M keyboard. After a couple of days, my hands just ACHED from the high force required for keypresses.
"This is like you want your coworkers to hate you"
Well, last time I used a blue at work, my coworkers hid my keyboard while I was in the restroom.
True story.
In my office I control the music being played so when somebody annoys me I just put on some nice annoying music that they don't like to drive them out. >:D
I used Cherry Blues at work for a while, until my boss offered to buy me a new keyboard, lol! I got a Corsair K70 with Cherry Browns out of that exchange!
@@andmicbro1 ooff compare blue and brown what would you prefer?
@@EndomouEnd well it's a subjective topic soo he won't prefer what you do...anycase it depends on usecase and your preference
I went from membrane to MX speeds to MX brown (Corsair k95 rgb platinum)
Definitely prefer the Browns as the ideal inbetween typing and gaming
Well... i use a Model M at work and kailh box navy's at home... they are just to damn nice to type on. :)
Luke: "I feel like typing on boobs."
Jono: "Oh, God no, NO!"
Taran: "Ugh!"
David: "UHHH!!! I REALLY LIKE THIS!!!"
It's so fun put together, but was very interesting at the same time! 😄
Simon Andreassen the ones saying no are the ones not liking boobs lmao
Cherry MX Browns are my daily typing and gaming key switch on my Filco Majestouch 2, I love them.
I would've had everyone do a round-robin of all the keyboards within a category and let them score the better keyboard in each matchup between 1-3 based on how much better those switches were than on the other board. Then tally up all the points each board got.
Linus: "If I was trying to piss off my room mate"
Yvonne: "What do you mean trying"
I never refer to my wife as "my room mate." Interesting choice of words Linus.
The editor messed up though. The audience definitely needs to know what switches were being compared, not just the ones that won.
Edit: Also James, Linear keyboards do not require you to press the keys all the way down. If you had actually spent some time really researching about different types of key switches, you wouldn't have gotten so many things wrong in this video. You guys need to go back and learn about key switches again.
Ok i wasnt just this one with the problem 😂
they basically did that at the end
Wouldn't it be best if they didn't know at all what they were using while the test is not complete...
why bring in the risk of subjectiveness at all
@@Desterothx I think they just got their final choice of the category revealed
Riley is like a child, i love it 😂
He’s just constantly playing and being silly hahah
I bought Cherry reds for gaming like 6yrs now. The Cherry reds is so good when gaming, but it's not the best for typing text only. So, I recommend test the key switches under different working conditions, the results would be very different.
6:06 actually you don’t have to press a linear switch all the way down, there’s just no bump
I had to to a literal double-take on that one. Surely, I thought, LTT wouldn't get such a basic thing wrong? And it's so easy to disprove by putting whoever in front of a linear keyboard and just.. I dunno, *test* it?
I think one factor they did not take into account is a reponsive factor
I mean like literally a typing test
Everyone type a quick brown fox in each kb or something
I use linear switches and the best thing about them is when you learn how to "feather-step" type on them by only pressing them down a third or a quarter of the way down. It's great!
I smash down on my linear switches.
Horrible keyboards for typing, so many accidental double key presses. Horrible for gaming for similar reasons. Threw away a keyboard with cherry reds as it pissed me off so much, went to cherry brown and not looked back.
13:37 "It just makes you feel .. like .. you're getting into the main frame"
I agree 1000%
Perfect timestamp too lmao
Hacking the gibson!
it is funny how your taste changes as you age, as a kid i loved clicky keyboards but as ive gotten older i bought a blue like switch keyboard and hate it coming from a brown like one
I have to say I think riley is one of my favorite presenters, he's so goofy and just lightens things up I love it
