    The one thing all the people watching should take away from this, is do like you did in the store. READ THE LABELS on your food. See what it is that you're consuming or feeding to your loved ones. If you can't recognize what the ingredient is, it's going to be there for the product's longevity, not yours!
    Thank you for an enjoyable romp through the grocery store.

    The nutritionists views were all correct, regarding health of the eater, but what is not discussed is the environmental cost of Almonds and Cashews. Also, cashew nuts burn the hands of the women who pick them. It has a highly corrosive acid in the fruit...

    • @KateeSackhoffOfficial
      @KateeSackhoffOfficial  3 года назад +10

      Very true. We have really cut back on any almonds in our house. Especially almond milk when there are alternatives that are so much better for the environment. I’ve never heard about the cashew acidity when picked however! I’m going to look into this! Thank you

  • @MsHojat
    @MsHojat 5 лет назад +9

    That holistic "nutritionist" sounds like someone without any actual formal education on the subject, or at least formal education of significance, and probably goes by what they read online on blogs and sensationalist news, rather than well-established scientific consensus.
    "Holisitic" in itself is not a bad word (unlike homeopathic or naturopathic), but it is a red flag, as frequently those who mention holistic do get into other problematic stuff like naturopathy, homeopathy, chiropractic (although not all chiropractic is bad), chi, or Ayurveda.
    The assertion of "garbage in, garbage out" is flat out untrue. Garbage in means you will be unhealthy, but unhealthy people can still excel at what they do as long as it's not something particularly physical.
    The best comedians, engineers, programmers, [professional] gamers, debaters, actors, musicians, singers can get away with eating junk food and still perform great. The junk food makes them end their life sooner; it makes them maybe feel a bit less good. It won't impact their performance much. Potentially, depending on the _degree_ of how unhealthy the stuff they're consuming is it might affect their performance _a bit_ (since it could potentially affect sleep or mood a bit), but that is still separate from the notion of "garbage in, garbage out" which is just a non-science thing that many people believe because it's easy to believe and sounds plausible.
    "Wine has sugar in it" Not really, not usually/mostly, no. Wine _CAN_ (and frequently does) have sugar in it, but it doesn't have to. Most of the time almost all the sugar is completely fermented out; so in one glass you might have one single gram of sugar in it, which is nothing, especially if you're going to make the claim that [sweet] fruits are healthy, when they're just loaded with sugar, and are essentially sugar water mixed with fiber.
    Sulphites are _NOT_ the thing that make you hung over. Simple as that; how do both of them even believe that in the first place? Next thing you're going to tell me that vaccines cause autism?
    "you don't want carageenan" "Why have it?" Yes it's a thickening agent. Why have it? because it thickens things. Is it unhealthy? no? Should you avoid it? not without proof of it being harmful. Where's the proof of it being harmful?
    "There are studies that takes the nutrition- that it sucks the value out of food" no. What studies? If you overcook a food yes it will lose nutritional value, but you can overcook food with any cooking method. Microwave can be one of the best ways to cook vegetables, since you're not letting it soak in a bunch of water that washes away some nutrients, and it cooks much deeper and effectively than frying or oven. Frying can work well too, but it's much more difficult to not overcook. It's best to just use it for thin stuff or stuff that doesn't need much cooking, like [sliced/chopped] onions, chopped/sliced peppers, garlic, zucchini, tofu, mushrooms, snow peas, or other vegetables that are thin or thinly-sliced. Steaming can work fine too, but microwave is an easy way to do steaming/cooking that is healthy. an article published by Harvard Medical School states: “The cooking method that best retains nutrients is one that cooks quickly, heats food for the shortest amount of time, and uses as little liquid as possible. Microwaving meets those criteria.”

    Interesting video but FYI not all yellow cheese has food additives in it. Cheese made from the milk of grass fed cows turns yellow naturally because it contains beta-carotene.
    Also even if the cheese is artificially colored it will most likely be annatto, which is an natural color from the seeds of the achiote tree. Nothing wrong with it.

    I cringe when people say carbs are bad. Our bodies absolutely need carbs, and our brains run exclusively on carbs. The key is to watch your intake of them, not to cut them. I've got friends that walk around in a brain fog because they think they have to eliminate carbs.
    And just another tidbit: Your body looks for carbs to burn as fuel first and foremost. When it can't find them, it looks for protein to burn for fuel. The problem is that your body expends twice as much energy trying to convert protein into fuel because it's not the preferred fuel. Find a good source of complex carbs and look up the amount you need daily for your gender, body weight and life style (active people need more than sedentary people). You're welcome. Peace and love.

    • @MsHojat
      @MsHojat 5 лет назад

      The body expending twice as much energy converting protein into fuel isn't a problem when a person is trying to be mindful of their weight. Effiency of food is something someone would want if their goal was getting fat. There hasn't been anything that I'm aware of that proves minimizing carbs is unhealthy - particularly for people who aren't doing a lot of physical activity. I also haven't really heard of anyone saying that they should be avoided entirely; even the diets like Atkins(and similar) have merely significantly reduced numbers of carbs not outright removal (or maybe that's what you mean by "cut"?)

    • @fastzebrazoom4454
      @fastzebrazoom4454 5 лет назад

      @@MsHojat I'm not sure what you're getting at. The body works the way it works. Simple. And it prefers carbs over protein to run. No philosophical constructs required. And I already said one has to consider how active or sedentary they are when determining carb intake. Now, whether active or sedentary, the body's requirement for carbs doesn't disappear- it need only be adjusted.

    Katee, I love your channel and I enjoy seeing you act. There was one line in here that is disappointing. “If you eat crap food you put crap out into the world.” I will be the first to say that my diet is rubbish. That, however, does not negate who I am. I’m an ICU and ER RN. I have devoted my life to helping people. I don’t put “crap” out into the world. To negate someone for their diet is ridiculous. You can be a good person and do good things even if you make mistakes somewhere in your life. It is just offensive to say so.

    • @KateeSackhoffOfficial
      @KateeSackhoffOfficial  3 года назад +14

      I’m so sorry you were offended. I love that you’ve been enjoying the channel. My goal is to make people smile and I’m sorry that this was your reaction.
      If I may?....Let me use myself as an example here. When I eat crappy food I don’t perform as well as I usually do. My memory and brain don’t function as best they can. I’m short tempered and easily frustrated throughout the day. My skin doesn’t glow the way it should, my digestion gets put into a knot and I’m not motivated to workout. There are so many things that get thrown off from me eating bad food. When I do so I don’t put my best self out into the world.
      It doesn’t mean I’m a bad person only that if I’d chosen better food I could’ve maybe put a better version of me out into the world that day.
      Again I’m sorry you were triggered by this. I wish you nothing but the best and many years of joy and health. 👍🏻

    Love the video! What I am curious about is what exactly the interplay between the list of the top 10 items and people’s budget (both time and money) might be.
    My guess is that the reason those items are the top 10 (excluding the wine, beer, and cigarettes) has to do with a combination of affordability, convenience, and longevity. When you have very limited funds to make ends meet and even more limited time outside of work and responsibilities, you might prioritize items that at cheaper, easier, and longer lasting even if they aren’t as healthy.

    What the nutritionist said was not correct. Whisky is not more pure than wine, not at all. Vodka is quite pure, that’s why it doesn’t have much flavour. Whisky does, and it contains a lot of congeners, which are toxic chemicals. Red and white wine probably do have slightly different effects. Red grapes contain resveratrol, white grapes don’t. It’s said to be good for your heart, although anything without alcohol is probably better as it’s linked to somany different types of cancer, like breast, mouth and bowel cancer.
    Other than that, she suggests glutenfree is healthier. Unless you are a celiac, there’s nothing wrong with it. We do tend to eat the same grains and variety is better, also millet is underappreciated, but gluten are not dangerous. (Actually, many people have problems digesting bread because of certain carbohydrates that are difficult to digest. I have that problem myself. I’m on a low fodmap diet, I don’t eat wheat, rye, barley or spelt, but I can eat pure wheat gluten.)

However, people on a budget can’t afford the healthy stuff and buy what they can afford. You should try this again but keep the price under say $50 or $100. I _love_ pigging out on cherry tomatoes too, although I can't afford eating them like that. She talks about how wine is pricey but that little container of tomatoes was probably like 5$+ on it's own (at east where I live) and which gives much less calories (granted, its relatively filling). Many veggies are not at all cheap (they're almost entirely water in weight very low in calories). In fact almost all of them are, with the exception of like carrots, potatoes, and onions, which are great choices for those of you who think _ALL_ veggies are expensive. Cook it up with some spices (either fresh or powered) and it's great.

    Yellow cheese is not bad. Processed American cheese is bad - both white and yellow. A good quality cheddar is yellow from annatto seeds, not artificial additives. (Exception, if you have a dairy problem, then you should probably avoid most cheeses.)

      Actually most people have a dairy problem. Adult humans, like other mammals, are not meant to consume breast milk, and their bodies stop producing the enzyme needed to digest lactose. That’s what dairy is, breast milk meant for calves. What Katee describes, the mucus, is very common. Many people just assume they have chronic colds, which would probably go away when they stop consuming baby food. On top of the lactose (sugar) it contains a lot of fat and salt, so I’d consider it a snack, not food.

    Katee, you need to look at going Keto. I lot of what you think you know about "healthy" food is wrong. Navy Seals are put on Keto diet when they start training. Huge health benefits, better stamina, less hunger, less weight, lower sugar levels and much lower insulin levels. I have lost 46 lbs in 6 months and gone off all blood pressure meds.

    Hilarious. We are lucky we don’t tend to buy anything on that list! We do eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Carrageenan is horrid. I’m allergic to it. It doesn’t belong in our milk! Sad there’s no real food on the list! You should buy one fruit since you’re not buying the cigs!

    There's also economical reasons for a lot of your items. You can afford the healthier options of these items. Fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs and meat are absolutely very expensive for many people living below the poverty line. Carbs are filling. This also speaks to generational poverty.
    Sorry to mention. This is also a reality, and you touched on this, by purchasing the cheapest wine. When we look at diets, you absolutely have to take into consideration what can the average person making less than $20 000/year.

    Reduced fat cheese is worse due to the fact that they add oil to make up for the fat and Almonds don’t produce milk! Lol

    • @Jay-ux3rl
      @Jay-ux3rl 5 лет назад

      Almond milk is made by blending almonds with water, so obviously it doesn't produce milk like an animal, but we've created a milk substitute using almonds that we just call milk, get over it.

    One of the biggest problems with our culture is that sugar, sweets, etc... are offered as 'treats' when we are children. Sugar's reaction in the body is more like a poison than a food. Gluten isn't always bad - especially if the source is a natural risen by a natural culture as that helps break things down which makes them more digestible. It's a little inaccurate for people to say 'gluten is bad' as it is more complicated than that and not always true. Real bread that is organic and naturally made likely won't give you the same sort of problems. (Obviously it's carbs ....)
    Our food industry needs a revamp and the only way that will happen is with more aware consumers who change the demand in the market.

    Very good info! I’m a carb addict and that’s my biggest struggle. Thankfully I’ve been making some small changes and working towards the bigger ones. I don’t think we should totally deprive ourselves of the “bad” things that we love. Like the nutritionist said, moderation is very important. I learned some new things today, so thank you! ❤️

    This is a very good practical guide. Thankfully the lockdown has eliminated diet cola and Snickers bars as unnecessary tram commuting snacks. So I'm soda and candy bar free from now on - perfect ! ( and btw, that alone I think already moved 2kg off this 81kg pre lockdown frame )
