It's relevant that you should be on the stable release of Steam before installing Decky Loader. That is your highest chance of success. Decky Loader quite often needs to be changed subtly with each release of Steam. So unless you want to do version troubleshooting everytime something changes, stay on stable. That may change in the future as I'm sure the devs are trying to make stable APIs for these softwares to use. It will take a little time to get there.

You should seriously use Fantastic to set a custom fan curve. Play around with it to find out at what RPM your fans get loud enough to hear, then try to place a node on the graph at that RPM (Y axis) at around 75C (X axis). There's a bit of guesswork because the graph isn't labeled, but just a single node in the general area I described will ensure your fan will not become audible until you reach about 75c.
This is a nice middle ground between the old and new official fan curves, because the old curve ramps up the fans too early, and the new one too late, which causes the fans to constantly be audible all the time (old curve) or alternate between being silent or going into overdrive instantly (new curve). To play it extra safe, place another node after the first to make the line steeper, so the fans ramp up higher and faster after passing 75c
You shouldn't ever really pass 90c during max wattage when pushing the handheld to the limit, and you'll never hear the fans when playing less demanding indie games. Yeah, 90c sounds toasty by desktop standards, but the deck is a compact device, so temps are higher by default, and its APU is built to handle temps up to 100c before thermal throttling and the system shuts off at 105c as a fail-safe to to protect its components.

is there any negative factors by using those plugins? battery,performance or maybe hardware impact?
I did notice that when I was on preview instead of stable the plug in wouldn't show up. As soon as I switched and it restarted the plug in popped right up

So I’ve been using the dev mode stuff for prolly 3/4 days now. There was an update today and it wouldn’t start? I walked away from my deck and came back and the plug icon isn’t there anymore?
The Animation Changer never works for me. It lists out all the animations but it's extremely laggy and I can't ever actually preview or download the files themselves

Hi deckers, I've got problem Animation Changer plug-in, I can see all animations and can easily download but when I download it didnt comes installed animations ... Any idea how can I fix that problem

There should be the uninstall command in the GitHub. There is always a risk that it could mess up your ux or cause a crash if you install things like the system plugins.

Does the vibrant deck color mod have any negative side effects like 1) drains the bettery faster or 2) cause the screen to burn out faster?

Once I set my SU password I go back to Konsole window where it says [sudo] password for deck and pressed R2 (ENTER) button the Konsole window says sorry try again. What am I doing wrong?

I'm curious if the Saturation plugin can work on external monitors. I use an Nreal Air HMD, which is basically a small OLED screen as it is. That being said, I've actually found some colors to be too saturated. Would I be able to adjust the saturation levels for the Nreal Air while it's plugged in through the USB-C port?

I'm Just wondering, is it true that the [POWERTOOLS] and the [FANTASTIC] Plug ins can cause heavy crashes and intense stutters on the Steam Deck's OS? Or does it depend only on the settings you place it in? For example:Very low wattage,Fan Curve, GPU Settings, ETC.
I think it depends on the settings you use. I tend not to mess with those plugins, I don’t have them installed and I haven’t had any issues.
Powertools is more must have than everything here.
Only thing worth touching is cpu smt. Disabling hyperthtreading can give huge performance gains.
Stutters & heavy crashes are a load of shit for this.
I wouldnt mess with fan control because if your cpu/gpu get too hot your deck will auto shut down. So fantastic = (useless) for the most part. My fan never gets loud anyway.

Also I noticed that certain games that are not even AAA begin to stutter up and for some other players, it just suddenly crashes along with the OS itself. Sounds scary.
@@robertesparza4684 Not sure what games your talking about. Ive had Steam OS crashes but that is because the OS is new, it happens its expected more than scary.
Only stutters I really get are due to shaders being compiled & they go away after they have been created for the first time.
Most of what the plugins & deck can offer is already on the table for improveing graphic demanding gameplay. For games that require a lot of assets to be loaded increasing the default size of the swap file included on the deck might help. Idk if a plugin could be made to easily increase/decrease swapfile size to add memory/VRAM.
Off topic but when do you think Valve will release an updated APU driver for windows?
They will. They are slow to update them as I don’t think it’s priority
Hey, for some reason it doesnt work for me, it installs it no problem but the decky tab in the three point menu wont show up
This is currently broken if you are using the Beta steam deck software. Using the developer release of decky loader in place of the standard may fix it, but the fix isnt 100% yet.

i install it and it all works but when i switch back to desktop then back to steam it doesnt show the plugin option anymore and i have to reinstall is this normal ?
This is the issue I'm having. The install looks to go through fine, but both times I've done it, it simple doesn't show the Decky plug-in.
Followed along the whole installation procedure but the Decky Loader does not show up when I press the ... button on my Deck while in normal mode. Any ideas why? I'm on the Beta channel.

Great video! Is there a way to make a backup of the steam deck before applying plugins? I worry about crashing the deck and having to reinstall the games.
Not a full backup, but the plugins shouldn't break anything that badly that you wouldn't be able to uninstall it to go back to normal

What am I doing wrong? -in developer mode, clicked the icon needed to restart, then I go into desktop, copy/paste the command line into konsole. I plug my password in and it installs. Returning to desktop mode there is no icon. I've tried soo many times. The pre release will work, but if I try and update it literally deletes the decky loader icon. WTH? Help pleaseee 🙏

After installation vibrant plugin and set saturation to 150 from 100 in game , it was not working at all....I have the same colors no matter what I will set f.ex.: 150,200,300...just not difference at all...what am I doing wrong???

It's broken on the preview channel.
You have to install the preview version of decky due to some changes in the preview channel if you are staying there.

A risk I'm not willing to take. But it's dope. I have a desktop and I use my Deck for the old games and whatever games that works on the OS.

Can’t make the Deck look like an OLED. The main benefit of OLED is an infinite contrast ratio resulting in much better black levels and overall presentation, OLEDs being more vibrant is a misconception because of Samsung phones coming with highly over saturated default profiles. I have two OLED TVs and a phone and they don’t look more saturated than my other screens, just the contrast is way better.
There is a percentage of users where they prefer the over saturation of colors. Personally, I agree with you and much prefer the dynamic range of OLED. Pretty much can't fake that.

a small chance of some games not working, but not the entire system, Decky will break before it does any damage usually

Crankshaft still isn’t working as far as we know. Unless they finally fixed it. I never got around to using it but decky has what I need :)

Is something that will break/wipe on official SteamOS updates? I feel like with the speed that Valve kicks those out, this would become annoying to deal with very fast (and if it catches on, they will probably implement themselves).

It sometimes breaks with steamOS updates, but it is usually fixed before changes reach the stable branch of steamOS. Won't get wiped by steamOS updates, as all files are installed in userspace, like any apps downloaded from discover in desktop mode.
Mine literally dissapeared was working perfect then i launched into desktop to do somethign then back to gaming mode and now its completely gone.

@@SteamDeckGaming yes I even tried switching to the other releases and it makes it come back for a small while. Probably just something deck to deck hopefully future updates fix it I love the plugin, without it gamecube and Wii are very hatd on battery and performance.
Normal behavior. You have to restart the Deck and it works again.
@@MarkusFFFF sometimes. It's gone again I restarted and it's still gone. Reinstalled and it's back i lost all my profiles though, I just re restarted it to see if it stays. It did not so I reinstalled it again. In sure it will be fixed soon

Yes you do. But it’s not a profile lock password.

You do not need to turn on developer mode to install Decky. I just installed it and installed 3 plugins without doing that.

@@DriveCancelDC True. I found that statement odd as well. OLED look more rich and "saturated" because of their perfect black levels and usually higher color volume, not because of any actual increase in saturation.
Exactly. My monitor has saturation controls obviously, but it's not set to 100 to "make it look like an OLED"... Overblown colors are pretty yucky IMHO.

Yeah it looks terrible. The screen is the only thing keeping me from getting one. Well, that and you have to run everything in low settings basically.
