Since you're talking about Augmented Steam, you should've also talked about Steam Grid DB, which has official or custom artworks, static or animated, for Grids, Heroes and Logos. :)
One thing I hate about the new UI is that it doesn't give me a "total needed HDD space" when I want to install multiple games. It's been removed.

Regarding the age thing, Steam have mentioned it a few times, but they legally have to get you to 'verify' your age every time you attempt to access 'restricted' content.

    • @StandardUserFromEarth
      @StandardUserFromEarth 10 месяцев назад +308

Got to love verifying for an action game that has realitively standard violence that everyone now accepts, but some grotesque horror piece or a porno game doesn't need it, popping straight up without warning in a queue.
(writing this I'm guessing that's because most of those extreme content games aren't rated or released by official orgs, therefore not being eligible for the age verification law, but it's still funny to look at)

Btw, for the downloading while playing setting, you can configure that per game. So if a game is completely offline anyways or _very_ lightweight and not resource straining, you can enable steam downloads in the background of just that game, so you can essentially specify which games you can use as background waiting games.

So much this!! It's such a useful setting that I don't think I've seen in any other launcher yet. I keep the main setting as 'Allow' since I don't think you can customise that for non-steam games added manually, but have every regular game set manually to 'Allow' or if it's multiplayer, 'Dont Allow'. As a Linux user, I just really appreciate them fixing the Linux gaming experience. AMD's drivers helped as well, but Valve is still submitting fixes to even that, they maintain Proton, upstreaming patches to wine, supporting Linux desktop with Steam, and just overall contributing a lot. As somebody who uses a Stream Controller every day to control my PC from my living room, part of this unifying process has made the Steam Controller almost completely unusable for text entry. Also, they removed the ability to use RB as Space and LB and Backspace, which were gamechanging.

One of the hidden feature of Steam that I didn't realize at first but noticed it accidentally, is if you have the same Steam account logged in on two different PCs with same OS, and one of which doesn't have, let's say, Dota installed and the other one have, when you press install, Steam actually uses local connection to transfer the game data from one PC to the other rather than redownloading from the Steam server. It's useful if the internet is sensitive to jitter (like when you're playing an FPS or racing game)

Steam really needs to update their "hide game" function. While you can hide it in your library, friends can still see your game list, playtime and achievements on the profile so you can't hide anything really unless you set the whole profile to private which is kind of the nuclear option.

The big picture changes has been annoying me quite a bit too. If you think the controller controls are weird and inconsistent, I would recommend you to try out the phone remote play with steam link app and the mouse and keyboard experience too, both locally and through steam link remote play.
Also, for the "remote desktop hack" I used it in the past too, but there's a much easier way to do it, there's a desktop version of the steam link app that allowed you to directly remote into the computer that brings you directly into the big picture interface, and you can just minimize that one and do whatever you want.

    2. Add nonsteam games
Controller Support - No need to download third-party software, just enable it in the controller setting for the specific controller (ie. switch pro controller) and boom u can use it for *STEAM* games. They also provide various customization options with gyro detection (it the controller has gyro) as well as support for controllers that aren’t the usual but can be detected by the pc as a type of controller (ie. wheel, gamecube cube controller)
Add Non-Steam Game - Allows u to keep all your games into one specific library for ease of use instead of opening their specific launcher.
BONUS: Steam controller support works for added non-steam games. May require some tweaking for it to work as intended.

Tip for unRaid USB boot drives...
Use a metal one that isnt super small, the metal helps dissipate any excess heat and a larger metal surface effectively is a larger heatsink for the drive.
The boot drive is only accessed when booting, changing system settings, backing it up or when manually accessing it via command line... otherwise it sits there not being written to or read from, but being constantly on isnt great heat wise.
Also, I got a USB 2.0 internal header to USB port adapter and run my boot USB drove inside the case to avoid possible damage or accidentally removal.
Lastly, SpaceInvader One did a bunch of tests on USB drives to use as boot drives and last I know the Samsung BAR drive was his recommendation. Ive been running one for a couple years now (since my tiny one failed) without issue, but still have a cold spare one next to the server in case of another failure.

By the way, you can actually view what computers you have authorized from within the steam client. it doesn't count mobile or web logins, but the phone app does log all recent logins which includes mobile and web sources.
Unintuitive, but this will be under the Family section in the steam settings by clicking manage under Family Library Sharing. It will list all computers that

Yeah, I am pretty sure they are primarily marketing their "Maker's" edition to compete with the alternatives of Fusion 360 and OnShape.
I also don't see that many SolidWorks ads, but they don't really need it since Dassault Systemes makes two of the industry standard CAD solutions. They probably just want more exposure to the hobbyist market.

@9:03 I don't know if it is different for iPhone, but for Android You do not need to add any random Programs like notepad to Steam to use Steam link to Remotely Control your PC
When you have your PC paired to your Steam Link App,
Launch Steam link on your mobile device and Open Steam link's settings by pressing the gear in the top right,
    Press Streaming,
    Press Customize,
Then press the Right arrow at the top right of the screen,
Then change Launch Mode to "Desktop" instead of "Big Picture",
Now everytime you press "Start Playing" instead of pressing a game at the bottom, Steam Link will load your Desktop instead of starting up Big Picture

I have recently started working on a script that makes all your steam games DRM free (the ones that allow this "feature") it also pulls a full list of your games and automate the installation of all of them 1 by one, the fastest way to do so to date.

the best feature of the new steam client is the removal of all the features that made the steam controller great to use.
EDIT: The fkn keyboard oh my god. The steam controller keyboard was great, enough space to hit every button using the trackpads, didn't take up 80% of the screen and now there's multiple buttons that can't be pressed with the steam controller touchpads

In case anyone doesn't know, Valve has no managers or bosses - everyone can work on whatever they choose to. This is why some features aren't fully fleshed out, like the authorized devices. Here's a great video on what it's like to work there: ruclips.net/video/s9aCwCKgkLo/видео.html

Honestly Steam is great as it is at the moment although there are two things I would like to see still:
1: Let me control the new In-Game Overlay with my controller when I started it from Desktop mode like it used to be possible
2: Get us some theming-options! I know there's mods like CSS Loader but some official support would be great

The only complaint I have during my experiences are:
    Steam can't start up minimized
And sometimes when I'm in game and use steam overlay to chat my friends, when I double click their profile it minimizes the whole game and opens their profile instead of the old where it opens messages window

steam has so much untapped potential when it comes to... everything. they have pretty much the equivalents of discord, twitch, other social media platforms etc, and theyre all built in to steam itself; all they need is a better way of displaying it, maybe even a way of monetizing it.

1 thing I absolutely hate, is the way Steam started doing notifications.
Get an achievement = Steam plays a sound.
You can disable this, but it disables all sounds (for new messages and such as well), which is just straight up dumb.
We've got 4 options for Toast and Sound - yet achievements isn't part of that - but it really should be.

A note about the age verification --
The ESRB *requires* Steam to verify your age every time without remembering it. They've acknowledged this before and there's not much they can do about it.
That's what Valve says, anyway. Don't @ me about other markets who do things differently, I'm just relaying what Valve has said.

Hey linus, I don't know what kind of deal you guys have with steam, but it always irks me that your group is so quick do bash DRM, but NEVER shout out GOG where almost all games are DRM free. You guys could bring so much more people their way, and it would help the games industry as a whole to respect customers how they do.
Please bring awareness to them, they really deserve it
