I remember having one of those 99-games-in-1 handhelds back in the late 90s that was almost entirely just variations of Breakout, Space Invaders and Asteroids. The pirated fake console business has really improved since then.

I find things like all in 1 consoles/handhelds fascinating. Like there's a company out here making these with employees doing r&d, manufacturing etc.. All on the premise of emulated/pirated games.
It's just really interesting to me how shady some companies can be. A functional "legal" company that's entire business model is not entirely legal. Granted it's China.. but similar things go on in the US.

@beeman4266 I don't know how "shady" it really is to be "pirating" ZX Spectrum, Commodore and NES games in 2023. Risky perhaps in the case of the few companies (Nintendo, Sony) that still exist and care, but portraying retro games as a shady crime is like talking about jaywalking, or not using your signal when turning left from a left-turn-only lane as though it's 'criminal activity.'

You can find these at import shops all over the place, but not usually at this price. I think the highest i've seen was around $500 (in S.E. Michigan). A friend bought one that came with the complete library + Neo Geo CD library. Used a regular Neo Geo Case + 2 of the original huge ass controllers for $200 a few years ago. We never cracked it open but presumed it was using a raspberry pi inside and a sdcard for memory.

Definitely feels like a "hey, we scored a couple cartons of gamer-y looking units from an HTPC company that went under for almost nothing, let's just load them up with illegal software and see how much we can sell them for" situation. Not the worst plan ever, to be fair, and if a couple other content-creators get curious enough to bite then it might even turn a profit if they invested little enough in the packaging and such.

Its 8core CPU with 8GB of RAM and what looks like to be a 1650 mobile chip (not an external VGA card by the looks of box internals) clearly wasn't made specially for it like the chassis and MAYBE some of the ports.
Decent or not, yesterday i was helping a friend that bought one of these chinese streaming boxes only to reporpuse it as a mini linux/android/retroarch console and, need to say, for 50 bucks plus a 128GB good SD card and a good controller (i never tire to recomend 8bitdo BT ones for ANY kind of use), it's pretty impressive what that 100x100x20mm piece of plastic of him can do, but still it can't go much further than Dreamcast... MAYBE some Game Cube that used to have some easyer to code apps than PS2 and OG Xbox that shared the market with it in the 6th gen.
Considering that, if i want to repurpose the PC i'm using right now as one of these "multy system emulation rigs", i would be able to pir... play almost anything, from ATARI to Switch, but at the cost of, don't know, maybe 1000 bucks instead of just ~100 this friend spent since it is a pretty new hardware, so maybe the trick is how far you wanna go with the system.

I was thoroughly entertained by this video. You guys really seemed like you are having fun with no worries.
Also enjoyed checking out the gaming console. For $1000 US it seems like there is pretty good value there. Loved seeing all those retro systems listed. Would loved to have seen some of those Amiga games. They just don't make two player games like these now. My circle of friends used to meet at my place on weekends and we would enjoy taking turns playing double-player games like hockey, Olympic games, split-screen race car games, baseball, soccer and lots of others. It was quite the social setting and everyone had lodes of fun.
Now, everyone stays home and meets online to play games, but there isn't much social interaction anymore. I really can't see purchasing a system for one or two hundred dollars if it's using an i9, even an older one. Love the fact that it's so upgradable for storage as well. No soldered-on bullcrud.
Maybe $1000 Canadian (about $732 USD) would have been a better price, but the system itself is a real hoot.

you can load the software on your existing pc for free. The maximum amount of things you really need to overtop this product, is a long hdmi cable to your tv, a wireless xbox controller and maybe a separate HD, so you can actually boot from it, if you willing to. If you spend 200$ its still a scam and you buy old tech-garbage with pirate software, that wont last long or being a fire hazard. If you are interested in tech (you are here, so you do) you can easily build your own, with a used laptop for way less eighter.

They used to use custom motherboards with actual pcie slots so they could use half-height gpus in the bottom of the case, but they have ~evolved~ thanks to the surplus of older generation laptop parts since they have practically reached EOL.

I have those gamepads, they actually are quite decent as long as you don't play something depending on L2/R2 as those are just pain to use due to their position and angle (they just replaced triggers with digital buttons without redesigning the shell). First one (white) I got for free back when you could get Freebies on Ali. Dpad feel similar to the one in Hori's Pokken controller, it has pivot, diagonals work well and it is lighter than the one in Dual Shock 4. Facebuttons feel similar to Pokken as well (bit cheap, but you forget about it during gameplay). Analogs are accurate, close to DS4, no jitter, but after some heavy use I can feel movement of like the rubber band under my finger during a specific move - not noticeable in gameplay yet, but who knows. The shape is DS4, but there are some adjustments like angle of grip is 1 digree different or something is 1mm shorter - actually feels like improvement, doesn't feel as chunky as DS4 for those who didn't like it going into the direction of Xbox controller. However the second controller (black) I bought for a fishy low price on Shopee... and one of the diagonals on dpad requires you to be specific (quite common issue with a lot of controllers, even some of the Retro-bit's Sega licensed ones have it), and it sometimes just behaves weirdly, like when you connect it to USB it will vibrate. However it was cheap and it does the job fine for most of the games as I wanted it for xinput (it has xinput, direct input and I think PS3 mode) for occasional Retroarch on TV box, as RetroArch for Android doesn't want to work with most of my "less branded" direct input controllers.

Its possible that doing a Tablet installation of WinX actually optimises it so that it installs less bloat, AI device recognition and drivers and uses less system resources. Thats a smart thing to do. I used to install Windows with less RAM and on a base-line hardware computer, configure it for 'mobile' and then port that once complete to a computer with more RAM and faster hardware. It made a huge difference to how the end system performed.

Also, in a similar case to yours, I remember with the ATOM dual core cpu's, if you configured windows to run in 32-bit mode instead of 64 it ran much faster. ...but that was on a budget MSI board, so hey-ho, who knows why to be honest.

11:30 So the kind of interesting thing from an emulation point of view there is they're not using a "clean" romset from one of the more common groups, as that's a rom with an integrated trainer. Pretty common back in the 90's for backup systems, but not so much now, now you'd be more likely to use cheats integrated into the emulator or flash cart itself. So that could be a kind of... interesting collection of roms, anyway.
