    I hope the American Diabetes Society thrives. The world needs the correct information for our health. I have learned to enjoy fat. I no longer fear it. I lived through the low fat era and grew fatter every year eating low fat carbs, less meat eventually I became a vegetarian then a vegan for several years. All my liver enzymes and triglycerides were high and I was told I had fatty liver bit offered no advice on how to reverse it. In fact I was told the opposite. I found my way to liver detox supplements and 16 years later discovered fasting ,keto and now carnivore. Lost weight, reversed fatty liver, no longer have annoying skin tags, Hgb A1c and Blood sugars all normal for years now. I appreciate you spreading the truth about what makes us and keeps us obese, unhealthy and closer to the misery of chronic illnesses. Thank you for what you do to represent " Do no Harm" oath. 🎉

    For years, I felt I needed to avoid fat as much as possible in my diet, because saturated fat supposedly caused high cholesterol and clogged arteries, leading to heart disease. The only fats we should eat, according to the messaging we were hearing, were polyunsaturated fats (the so-called "good" fats). This meant eating margarine instead of butter, drinking skimmed milk instead of whole milk, and cooking with corn oil and assorted vegetable oils instead of butter, beef tallow, bacon grease, or -- horrors-- lard! Believing this advice would help to improve my health, I spent years of misery forcing myself to eat margarine that tasted terrible, and drink skimmed milk that I hated so much it almost made me cry. I read the fat content of everything I bought at the store and always chose the "low fat," "98% fat free" or "fat free" version . I bought fat free yogurt. I even ate fat free ice cream. I avoided eating the skin of chicken and turkey, and dutifully trimmed off the fat from any red meat I ate (which we were also advised to avoid).
    It wasn't until years later that I learned the brutal truth: Not only did this fat elimination campaign fail to improve my health, it completely ignored the most dangerous eating pattern of all: refined carbohydrates and sugar. All of that margarine, vegetable oil, skimmed milk, and fat free everything else didn't save me from high blood pressure, kidney infections, and ultimately the loss of my colon.
    Now, with the Carnivore way of eating, the picture is so much brighter. I'm grateful to understand at last that animal fat is helping me stay healthy. I can eat real butter with confidence -- and it tastes 100,000 times better than horrid margarine! I can enjoy fatty read meat and benefit from its nutritional richness. I can enjoy bacon and eggs any time -- not just at breakfast.
    I can only look back with sadness on how badly we have been misled about animal fat. It's natural, does not clog our arteries, does not cause weight gain, and enhances the taste of the foods we eat. I'm so grateful that you chose this important topic for a video. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    I so enjoy listening to your videos Dr. Tony. I went to a wellness checkup today and was discussing with my new doctor if she was open to me changing my diet to better my health as opposed to medication. While she was, when I explained I had done keto a few years ago and lost a bunch of weight, she immediately said Keto is not sustainable because of the high fat content. She said “We want to make sure you’re not clogging your arteries with too much fat.” I thought great, she’s not informed and still believes the lies about fat. It won’t stop me from following the Keto/Carnvore way of eating.

    Hi Dr Hampton, I like your informative videos and I am currently been doing OMAD Carnivore for at least 115 days.
    I just did extensive blood work and as expected, my cholesterol is high on all markers, including triglycerides... except I have low HDL.
    Now im a bit worried as it mentions I have an increased risk of Coronary Artery Disease... but i feel good while eating Carnivore. I only weigh 75kgs at 38 yrs old at 5'11.
    My last bloodwork would be 2 years ago before doing this diet and i had acceptable levels...

    • @DrTonyHampton
      @DrTonyHampton  19 дней назад

      Low HDL can be concerning, but it’s important to look at the bigger picture. If your triglycerides are low (ideally under 100) and other markers like fasting insulin, HbA1c, and CRP are good, you’re likely in a healthy place. Remember, HDL can take time to improve on carnivore as your body adapts.
      To help boost HDL, focus on eating fatty meats, egg yolks, and fatty fish like salmon. Regular exercise, especially resistance training, can also help. If you’re still worried, consider advanced lipid testing like an NMR profile to get a clearer picture. You’re not alone-this is common, and you’re likely on the right track!

    Two questions, Dr Hampton: 1- Is it possible for you to be my doctor without me traveling from Lexington, KY to Chicago? and 2) where does the extra fat go while you are moving into ketosis? I’ve always been confused about this, because I’ve heard two different things. I mean while you are slowly using it for energy? I have had problems figuring this out as far as biochemistry goes. I know, it’s a silly question that I shouldn’t care about, but Lynn, Carrie, and I have been tripped up with it on multiple occasions. ❤ thanks!😊

      Becoming My Patient:
      I truly appreciate your interest in becoming my patient! Unfortunately, my practice is based in Illinois, and current state regulations require that all patients reside in Illinois. This restriction also means I am unable to conduct visits across state lines, even via telemedicine. However, if you're looking for a metabolic health practitioner in Kentucky, I recommend checking out the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners' directory. It’s a great resource for finding like-minded professionals near you!
      What Happens to Extra Fat in Ketosis?
      Great question!
      When you're in ketosis, your body primarily uses fat for energy. Extra dietary fat, if not immediately burned, follows these pathways:
      Beta-Oxidation: Fatty acids are broken down in the mitochondria through beta-oxidation, generating acetyl-CoA, which can then enter the citric acid cycle or be used to produce ketone bodies.
      Storage: If you're eating more fat than your body needs for energy, the excess can be stored as triglycerides in adipose tissue.
      Heat Generation: Some of the energy from fat metabolism is dissipated as heat, which explains why many people feel warm or even sweat more when adapting to ketosis.
      Ketone Excretion: If your body produces more ketones than it uses, the surplus can be excreted via urine or breath (hence the use of urine strips or breath meters to measure ketone levels).
      From a metabolic perspective, the body efficiently prioritizes energy needs while minimizing waste. However, consuming too much fat can exceed what your body requires, potentially leading to weight gain if intake consistently surpasses expenditure-even in ketosis.
      I hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions-your curiosity and engagement mean so much to me

    Can you give your take concerning the argument that people should eat only alkaline foods versus acidic foods like meats. They also argue meats are the cause of all maladies. Gets confusing as to who to believe! However, empirically the one friend I have who eats primarily meat visibly looks better than the vegan/vegetarian friends. A few of the latter have even died prematurely. Nevertheless they keep espousing that meat eating is deleterious to one's health.

    • @DrTonyHampton
      @DrTonyHampton  20 дней назад +6

      The idea that acidic foods like meat harm the body is based on a misunderstanding of how our body regulates pH. Our blood pH is tightly controlled and doesn’t change based on what we eat. Meat is nutrient-dense and provides essential amino acids that support health. Focusing on real, whole foods like meat is far more important than worrying about the acid-alkaline myth, which has no solid scientific backing.

    • @Nursekimberlylane
      @Nursekimberlylane 20 дней назад

      @@calvindixon4416 yes, and it is literally impossible for you to change the ph of your body by eating foods. Your kidneys and your lungs tightly regulate your body’s ph. Your stomach acid is so acidic that it will instantly change any “alkaline water” that you drink (which is a scam because of this reason). People in that community also constantly talk about increased mucus. You know what gives me out of control mucus? Wheat and corn! It increases in response to inflammation. Meat is the least inflammatory food I’ve ever eaten. I have zero inflammation with meat.

    • @DrTonyHampton
      @DrTonyHampton  20 дней назад +2

      Using honey in tea while on keto depends on your goals and how strict you are with your carb intake. Honey does have some antimicrobial properties and can soothe a sore throat, but it’s also high in sugar and can spike blood glucose, which isn’t ideal for someone aiming to stay in ketosis. If you’re strict keto, alternatives like lemon, ginger, or a pinch of salt in warm water may provide relief without the sugar. If you’re less strict and a small amount of honey helps you feel better, it’s a personal choice-but keep it minimal to avoid disrupting your progress.

  • @bb_lars2711

    How do you get more fat into your diet? I have followed the carnivore diet for several years (3+ yrs) with the last several months being off but starting today back on. My problem is even if I eat 3 meals a day of meat, eggs, butter I still have times where I am hungry and I never get rid of midsection (belly, butt and thigh) weight which is so discouraging. This is the only way I feel my best but went through a rough patch the last few months and finally feeling better. Is fat the answer?

    • @DrTonyHampton
      @DrTonyHampton  7 дней назад +1

      1. Check Macronutrient Ratios: Aim for a higher fat-to-protein ratio (e.g., 70-80% fat) to promote ketosis, which can enhance fat burning.
      2. Optimize Meal Timing: Consider intermittent fasting (e.g., 16:8 or OMAD) to help reduce insulin levels and tap into fat stores.
      3. Focus on Quality Fats: Use healthy animal fats like tallow, butter, and fatty cuts of meat instead of processed fats.
      4. Limit Dairy: Dairy can be inflammatory and may hinder fat loss for some people, so try reducing or eliminating it.
      5. Reduce Stress and Improve Sleep: High cortisol levels from stress or poor sleep can lead to fat storage around the belly.
      6. Monitor Total Calories: While not typically necessary on carnivore, if fat loss is stalled, tracking intake for a short period can provide clarity.
      7. Increase Movement: Add resistance training or daily walks to support overall fat loss.
      8. Address Hormonal Imbalances: If there’s a history of metabolic or hormonal issues (e.g., menopause, thyroid), addressing these with a healthcare provider might be necessary.

    At what point could you reduce your dietary fat intake so that your body fat was being used instead?

    • @DrTonyHampton
      @DrTonyHampton  20 дней назад +3

      Great question! If your goal is to start burning your body’s fat for energy, it’s important to first ensure you’re fully fat-adapted, which can take several weeks to a few months on a keto or carnivore diet. Once you’re there, you can gradually reduce dietary fat, allowing your body to rely more on its own fat stores. However, don’t cut fat too drastically-your body still needs enough fat for essential functions and to keep you satiated. Listen to your energy levels, hunger cues, and track progress to find the balance that works for you!

      How does consuming fructose which is metabolized by the liver just like alchohol, help insulin resistance? The body cannot use fructose for anything so the liver has to deal with it. It turns it into fat which much be stored in the liver leading to fatty liver.
