      Don’t ebikes like these require registration and insurance in the UK? Since the motor is >250 watts and it has moped-like throttle. Thank goodness don’t need that nonsense in the US (just with the problem of almost non-existent biking infrastructure in the US).

    3:10 This is actually a remarkably wonderful way to show larger riders how the bike can still work for them. By virtue of the life of a bike reviewer, most are rather fit. So when a 250lb man (me) watches those reviews, it does little to tell me how the bike will perform. Whether this was your motivation or not, thank you.

    To show how impressive this bike is to ride, I have a little story. My wife and I have talked about getting ebikes for several years, but she is kind of thrifty(she throws nickels around like they are manhole covers), and we never pulled the trigger on buying them. On labor day, friends came by on their bikes(our back yard abuts a gorgeous 20+ mile paved bike trail in northern Indiana) and one of them had a new Radrunner plus. They insisted that we try it out, so we both rode it up the trail a ways and back. I was amazed, but my wife was totally blown away. After they left, she had me immediately order two!

    I recently purchased this bike. I really like it except for the seat. The seat is fixed with no adjustment to move it forward or backward only up or down. Thus, I am changing the seat post and seat. I'm a short person 5'5" tall. Because there is no adjustment on this fixed seat-, the seat is welded to the Seatpost, it doesn't lean like a regular bike so you have to be very careful turning. Another option is to take the seat out and use the back pad as your seat. This is the problem with not being able to ride a bike before purchase. If you're fortunate to have one of the few shops that carry this bike then realize this can be a problem for those who like to lean into their turns on a bike.

    • @The_real_Y2
      @The_real_Y2 2 года назад +2

      I'm trying to understand what you mean when you say "...it doesn't lean like a regular bike...." Is this due somehow to the seatpost? Or just the design of the bike as a whole?

    I own one, and let me tell you this, you can go up some SERIOUS hills with large gradients on level 5 assist and in 1st gear and not even break a sweat. Easy peazy. However, as the battery begins to wain (two bars left) the bigger grade ones you will have to get off and put it in walk mode. For reference I weigh 155 pounds. After riding a ton of hills in my area it seems the battery never dies. I have only two complaints, it doesn't always find gears 1, 2 and 3 with authority and the seats are like sitting on a rock. Thanks for the review Micah!

    Done 500 miles in 4 months on my rad. Regularly go on canal paths and through Epping forest this winter. Such a fun ride. In the settings you can increase speed to 20mph.
    25miles range max power or 35/40 in eco. Bit slow up hills but it’s heavy. Sometimes I get error code but a prod on the connectors usually sorts it out.
    Still rideable when battery goes but it’s tough especially after doing 40miles. I love my rad. Only one puncture. But now I go everywhere with slime, spare Amazon inner tubes, levers, 15mm wrench and a pump. Funnily enough I fixed the puncture with a slime patch at Halfords and it’s been running fine for the last 350 miles. They (Halfords) thought I may not be able to get home with the patch. 10/10 bike.

    I love this bike and have put about 500 miles on it so far. Stock seat is terrible but for $150 you can swap it out with a good suspension post and saddle. A huge benefit to the suntour post is that you sit a few inches further back making pedaling a lot more comfortable. I still keep the stock seat for my wife since she’s shorter and lowers it flush with the bench.
    Highly recommend this bike!

    • @kenhoward3512

      That the standard seat is terrible, but can easily be replaced with the same size seat post (for another $150) is something that should have been mentioned in the review. Not one single criticism was mentioned, except for the bike being "a little heavy," which it certainly is.

    • @TheYBGOON

      Stock seat is fine. I’ve decided to keep mine. I’m still young and I ride Mtb and bmx so a seat with suspension etc is not needed. I take my rad into the forest about once a month and my bottom never complains. Feet usually get soaked though.

    I have a Rad Rover....for the money it is the best value proposition I have found. Other companies offer "similar" form-factors for a few dollars less (or Much, Much More) But Rad offerings hit that sweet spot between price, performance and durability combined with responsive support and customer service. Add the fact that basic parts, along with "upgrades" are easy to find off-the-shelf or from a growing number of on-line vendors. While you can purchase parts directly from Rad, most items are not strictly proprietary meaning you can anticipate using their bikes for many years to come.

    Where I live is nearly perfect for a bike like this; we have trail systems that connect all the population centers to the city. If we have an issue (aside from weather), it's that trails are still treated as less of a priority to keep open than roads. You'll literally find the trail closed, often for months (even years) because of this.

I do trail riding, road riding, urban touring...I mean, this is one capable eBike. I've climbed hills, ran through flooded trails, lots of off road riding in dirt, sand, mud, gravel...it's really like a small motorcycle more so than a bicycle. I can't recommend it enough. I prefer the RadRunner single speed to this. It hits the sweet spot, imo. Gears aren't all that beneficial to this runabout and the added complexity is a big turn-off over the single speed. Same goes for the front suspension vs a rigid fork. It's just not that beneficial for the type of riding that this bike is intended for. The balloon tires make the rigid fork ok for pavement and light trails. The base RadRunner hits KISS just right. Keep It Simple Stupid. As a bonus, it's cheaper too!

    My wife and I own and ride the base model radrunner and we love it. We are pretty healthy slim people so it's able to get us up hills with a bit of heavy pedaling.
    The only thing I don't like about the plus model is the large back seat. It's such a wasted space to have a seat that big in the back when you can attach a large size basket like we did.
    So behind the rider's seat, we have a beanbag seat that I made for my wife and a basket. This way, we don't have to carry any gear, groceries or even backpacks while we're out on a day trip.
    On our longest single trip, we covered around 55-60 km with about 15% of the battery left.
    I would love to have the 7 speed option on the base model but it's only necessary if you're hauling 300 pounds up a steep hill.

      The last S73 I came across was on a walk/bike path. A young idiot coming around a blind corner so fast he had to panic ditch into the weeds to avoid crashing into pedestrians with pets. I've seen too many S73 video's depicting young men/boys showing off on streets weaving in and out of traffic on wheelies. One of our local beach cities is cracking down on ebikes because of that kind of behavior. For a second ebike, maybe a S73. Probably not, but I would like something to throw around on trails more aggressively than my Cheetah. So I gotta ask, is the S73 is better for mall hopping than this? Is it better to take lunch for two to a park? Better at... oh I don't know, think of something. "better in every way" for you I'm sure. But unquestionably the S73 could hardly be considered a good utility bike without significant changes. Having just completed a bathroom remodel and using my Cheetah for numerous trips to/from Home Depot and Lowes, I am certain the S73 is unsuitable for what I need/want out of an ebike. This Radrunner Plus checks all the boxes for what I need for the 2nd ebike in the family. So for me, the bike in this review is better in every way than the S73. Recommend you check your own bias and be honest with yourself before attacking the reviewers character. In fact, you actually of owe the guy an apology based on my book of "how to respectfully coexist with other humans".

  • @geraldscott4302

    The Radrunner is an eMoped. NOT a bicycle. You are not supposed to pedal it just like you weren't supposed to pedal the 2 stroke gas powered mopeds of the '70s. I'm 6' 240, with a 34" inseam. So I put the front part of the seat down all the way, even with the back part of the seat, and sit right in the middle of the back part of the seat. When ridden as it should be (NO pedaling) it has a range of about 22 miles, IF ridden around 10-12 mph. If you go full throttle, you are going to seriously decrease that range. I use it for riding on residential streets and bike paths for a slow relaxing ride. Going fast actually takes all the fun out of it. Slow down and enjoy life. I could have saved a lot of money if they hadn't put all those unnecessary and completely worthless "bicycle" parts on it.

They even get mad when the have to pass someone on a Walmart pedal bike because they "got in their way" They believe bike lanes are intended exclusively for them. They consider riding a bike as an Olympic sport, and if you are not riding at least a $5K bike and wearing at least $500 worth of "gear", and going at least 20 mph, you have no right to use the bike lanes. I ran into that way back while riding my Huffy in the bike lane. I even got one of those little bicycle license plates made for kids, put HUFFY on it, and put it on the back of my bike. But other than those types, nobody else seems to care.

Speaking of which, I recently stumbled upon this new crowdfunding project called freebeat's Morph 2-in-1 e-Bike. The outstanding feature that caught my attention is the ability to charge the bike when using it indoors. That's game-changing! The brushless 750W motor and 80Nm torque also offer impressive speed and power. The 80mm front suspension and puncture-resistant fat tires ensure a smooth ride on all terrains. It's a very nice bike. I've had it since December and it's a joy to ride. On packed snow, it was slippery so i switched for Kenda Krusades which helped a bit. Unfortunately, because of salt and the fact i can't rinse it off without freezing everything, rust is a big issue on everything that's made of steel but since it's only the gears, the chain and some other small components, it shouldn't be too expensive to replace those in the future. Next winter, i'll have to find a solution for that though.

    I live in the SF Bay Area. This seems useless in most situations. The range is cool. The speed is all right. You could not lock this up to keep it outside. It would get stolen. It’s so bulky and heavy it would be a lot harder to bring into an elevator. And it’s so heavy you wouldn’t carry it up multiple flights of stairs. It would be in danger at home, and at work, and when parked while visiting friends, and while parked while you shop.
    For a little more (less than 3,500) you can get a tiny 125cc motorcycle. Those get stolen at a lower rate. It goes faster. It’s made well. It has a much longer range. They’ve got a better light and turn signal system.
    This feels like a toy for people with too much money.

    • @geeksam
      @geeksam 3 года назад

      Having previously lived in the Bay Area, I agree that it's probably hard to keep anything intact if you have to lock it up outside, especially at night. But ebikes are a great option for plenty of people. For example, up here in Portland, there are hills I just don't want to pedal up, street theft isn't rampant, and most of our housing units have off-street places to park bikes.
      Also, depending on the range you actually need, CSC makes a few electric motorcycle options for $2200-$2500. (They do seem to be out of stock lately, though.) At that price, you can have an electric for your daily commute and a 600cc for your weekend rides on highways 35, 92, 9, 128... damn, I do miss all the fun roads down there. Even 49 had some fun twisty sections. :)
      Bottom line: Don't like it? Don't buy it. Not everything has to appeal to you. Or, as we used to tell our kiddo, "don't yuck other people's yum." ;)

    • @zero11010
      @zero11010 3 года назад +1

      @@geeksam Not just outside. The surge of break-ins in garages and even in communal areas within apartments would make that hard in the bay area. I've lived in Oakland for years and in the locked parking garage cars would be broken into or stolen regularly, and I had people try to steel my motorcycle more than once ... there's no way a 2,000 e-bike would last.
      I'm not going to think that a thing like this at a price point like this makes a lot of sense for most people. I'm excited to see what continues to happen with the e-bike market though. The tech growing at an awesome pace. For me to get on board it needs to be a lot less expensive than a motorcycle or it needs to be as good of a mode of transportation.
      As far as the last part. I'm a pretty firm believer in the first amendment and allowing people to speak their mind. There's a difference between trying to make someone feel bad and just saying you don't like the thing. I think you should like this bike as much as you want and it would be silly for me not liking it to impact how much you enjoy it. I think people should keep speaking their mind, or you'll end up more people shocked and offended when someone disagrees with them (I don't mean you as you don't seem offended, but in modern society we do have more and more people who have difficulty with virtually anything that isn't a form of affirmation or agreement and the concept of "don't yuck my yum" sure seems like it would make that worse).

    Just purchased on June 20th, 2024, I worked for 2 days and have stopped working, Customer Support has not been helpful, and have been unresponsive. They thought it was the controller, ordered it, on July 6th, and as of July 9th it has not been sent out yet. And I have to take the bike apart and fix it. I called a service center (the closest was 2 hours way) and they felt it was the motor. They have not been helpful, as it is so big, I can't transport it and would have to hire a van and drive 2 hours each way to get it to a service center. So, if anything goes wrong with the bike as in my situation, and you're not close to a service center nor have a vehicle large enough to transport this bike, as of the date of this writing, you are screwed. And good luck speaking with someone with authority to make decisions.
