      This is what an awful lot of people will end up riding in the near future. Not so good for the elderly and disabled. With thousands of battery’s being charged overnight in flats there will be lots of fatal battery fire incidents, but I suppose saving the planet is worth it. 😐

    • @Slimboid
      @Slimboid Год назад +3

      @@Mezman999 Sounds like you need to make your mind up about who needs saving more - the 8 billion and rising on this planet in general, or the 10% house fire fatalities due to electrical faults, of which battery fires are a smaller portion. Ideally both eh? Let's have some investment in education about battery care (not to mention regulation of manufacture) maybe and the rest will follow.

    Thanks for the entertaining video. In the USA this frame style is called a scrambler or cafe racer, also known as retro ebikes because they resemble the Schwinn Sting-Ray model from the 1960’s. Some call them mopeds, but a true moped has a gas engine.
    A Cruiser style, aka Beach Cruiser, looks like what you might call a “Dutch” bike but with fatter tires (not to be confused with a 4” fat-tire ebike). The principle difference is you can pedal a Cruiser but the ergonomics of Café Racers are usually not comfortable for serious pedaling.

    • @migueruta
      @migueruta Год назад +1

      It doesn't get people into cycling for real! The electric engine can do most of the muscle work. Besides it has a ergo-anatomic problem: you can't set the height of its seat, in order to pedal without hurting your knee joints' structures and without shorten your lower limb muscles, on the long run.
      That means, the taller the rider, more tiring & unconfortable it will become to pedal unless the person only resorts to its electric engine.
      Cheers!😉

I live in central VA, USA and have several Studebakers from a 1953 truck to 1963 Cruiser, a 1977 Wagoneer, and 1992 Subaru SVX in my fleet, along with more mundane dailies. Several times a year I get stopped by cops who just want to check them out and chat and have a random person come up to me probably every third fill up because they don't know what it is, know someone who had one, have always wanted one, etc.

    It looks cool, but how repairable is it? Can you get replacement parts at any bike shop or do they have to be special ordered in from the manufacturer?
    How adjustable is it? I mean it’s obvious the seat won’t adjust to accommodate longer or shorter legs, but what about handlebar height and tilt? Can they be adjusted to fit differently sized riders or does the rider have to adjust to the bike?
    Personally I’ll stick to bikes that every bike shop will have spare parts for. My step through granny ebike might be boring looking but I can add baskets, parcel racks and child seats if needed. I can get replacement parts and servicing at any bike shop and it’s easily adjustable to fit every person in the family who might need to ride it.

No built in trackers, no remote disabling, no alarms no anything really. With so many bikes being stolen, especially in the capital, most of the current offering leaves a lot to be desired imo.

      The moped style ebikes are better left on the flats. The 750w Bafang hub motor is very common on premanufactured ebikes. However, this moped style does not have an adjustable seat, one size fits all. That means for taller riders you either need to stand on the pedals or have an awkward angle for pedaling which makes it difficult to add your full human power to the mix. There are also many ebikes of this style with a lot more power and range for the same or less money. I'm not sure what's available in Europe, but for £2600 ($3200 USD) you could get a moped style ebike with 2 x 1000w hub motors and likely a larger battery. For $2000 USD you could get a 1000w hub motor moped style ebike. If you want to climb hills direct drive hub motors (the Bafang 750w is geared) can handle gobs of peak power given you have a battery that can supply it. Another route is converting a bike with a mid-drive conversion kit most commonly from Bafang or CYC that can utilize the rear gearing on the bike and deliver up to 5000w depending on the model.

    Might be nice to make a helmet that could take a rear mounted Raspi Pi with camera, and a small screen HUD. Aside from just being able to view behind, it could gain smarts to give audible warnings of approaching vehicles, add additional flashy stuff to alert drivers of your presence, signal your left/right turns, etc. It could alert you to accident prone spots, help route you to better streets,... Would make a great addition to the accessories list.

But today throughout my town and on the path I see more and more E-bikes. I tell folks if I want exercise I will walk, but for getting to the store or just joy riding you can't beat them. I build my own generally to keep it light and more like the bicycle it is. But your E-bike is clean for a fat tire most are really designed to look like a motorcycle which to me is just to clunky. I really like the fact your frame is more tapered and the way they utilized the open frame for storage. PS you could also add a second battery there if you wanted to for more range. Stunning, reflective analysis of a new way of getting about, very enjoyable and visually appealing. A tiny bit light on technical stuff, weight, lifting it up a few stairs sort of thing, it looks bulky and difficult to store. I am thinking about the price- and assuming it is Eeeek...The luggage thing is a pretty trick but of limited practical value. If you could push that panel out the back over the wheel and to enable wide stuff to be carried there, that would work. Like the rocker switch, that brilliant saddle and the low line of the bike for smaller folk. Not quite with you on the road rage thing, the angriest people I see are men dressed in lycra on racing bikes tearing through the traffic and red lights daring anyone to stop them and intimidating pedestrians with "death or move" stares. Could you do a few test runs in the rain, to help us get the whole world of cycling in perspective? Love the specs, one of the best things I have seen, need a few more designs though. Thank you, great work.

  • @Ianmundo

    few issues I anticipate with this design, no guards mean getting sprayed up the crotch and back on wet roads. Lack of seat height adjustment lends to awkward position for pedalling. Heavy tyres and frames are mitigated by electric assistance but are difficult to pull up if you need to mount a kerb

    i like how that man thinks lol.
    my only concern i guess would be the lack of seat height adjustability. im only 5'4 and like 120 lbs so im curious what the ride comfort would be between someone my size and someone like 6'4. very cool bike, and video! thank you for sharing ^_^ 💕💕

      Got my newgen bike last week 345-S. Been riding on the road legally as I entered the code in the settings (hold the menu button and go to the extra settings then it asks for the code) I reduced the speed limit to 15.5mph and disabled the throttle so now it is legal to ride on the road and bike paths. I can always change it back whenever I want which is nice.

    • @dtz1000
      @dtz1000 Год назад +1

      @@697_ It still has a 750W motor which is not street legal in the UK. Changing the settings isn't going to change that.

    For just over 2k it's not so bad. But personally it's good. But for me I would go with a small cargo E-bike or just go crazy and go with the Tern GSD because carrying stuff is better. With this Cruiser it looks good but sometimes you need to pop to the shops on the way home and need to carry stuff. But it's nice and suits a lot of people. Just for the price and as a car replacement a cargo E-bike would be better.

    There are a lot of e-bikes that have very small frames and this is one of them. Also, the chain isn't guarded so expect trouser legs to get some oil on them. No mudguards, expect to get a damp bum. Apart from that it's great. 😐

    As for the dude on the scooter saying you may come to grief on the EV bike ... lol , pot calling kettle black , he`s a funny guy , the truth is , all of these methods of personal transport , be it a skate board , a push scooter , a bike ...... EV types or otherwise , including any other means of transport including full size proper motor bikes and scooters have a large element of risk and danger built in to them , ...... no metal cocoon around you , no seat belts , no air bags , most do not have ABS brakes , etc ,etc .
    But we all throw the dice and accept X amount of risk that suits us , not to mention , some of us enjoy a bit of risk taking , while others believe ....... shit will never ever happen to me :) , this is just how humans operate .
    I`d have your EV bike in heart beat ;) .

    This style of frame compared to conventional style of cycle frame. I was always of the belief that each leg should be more or less fully extended at the bottom of the power stroke. On this bike frame it’s not possible to stretch the leg (the leg is very scrunched up). I wonder if using such a bike on regular longish distances will take a negative toll on one’s knee joints ?

    Maybe it's not an issue given that pedalling is only a hint to the motor, but the distance between the crank and saddle appears to be non-adjustable. That means your legs never extend fully and so a lot of effort is going to be wasted.

    Cool machine , i`m not one to give a toss about cosmetics , but practicality is a big point winner for me , the cruiser looks very simple with a nice comfy seat , and it seems it just works for its purpose , gets you from point A to point B with a minimum of fuss or effort ( i hate conventional bike seats with a passion ) in reasonable comfort , and yes i would have a pack rack to stow my shi..... stuff :) .
