What I like about ElectroHeads videos is the daily, real world performance of the e-bikes. Yes, the Hill test is fun to watch, and sometimes Eilis navigating London traffic scares the b’jabbers out of me, but the rest is very informative, too. 😊

So did the bike downshift itself when you hit that steep grade and slowed? I assume that's how the two speed helped but you didn't actually explain that it did that. Auto shifting isn't always preferential if it doesn't have angle sensing or smart electronics that know when to downshift. Love the channel, your policy commentary, and fun practical reviews. Thanks Electroheads! Thanks Eilis!

40NM isn't enough without a throttle. I had a 40NW bike and it sturggled in Edinburgh with our hills. I required a throttle to manage the hills. The problem isn't going up the hill but stop/starts on a hill unless the torque is higher and/or you have a throttle.

I had a similar problem with my 50nm engwe L20 cargo ebike with hill starts in auld reekie. At 34k, it's a hefty bike to get moving even on the flat. Solution? Yes, enable the throttle for a powered and smooth move off. After that, pedal assist did the rest. It did Henderson St/Dundas Street up to George St. no problem. It even coped with The Mound up to Deacon Brodie's. Not fast by any means, but it didn't struggle. 👍 Cockburn St next LOL.

Have had the ADO 20 Pro for the past 6 weeks and knocked out over 100 miles on it (the light blue colour).
Granted I live in London, but Sport mode level 3, no issues with ANY hills nipping around SW London.
Very quick off the mark (need to be a little careful of the front wheel lifting on occasion).
Turn by turn navigation on the screen when paired with the ADO app is also pretty sweet.
Have to admit, the magnets don't really hold together when transporting it folded.
    Happy riding!

Excellent entertaining review for real world riding. Although I don't live in England, in Australia we suffer the same regulations. At 25kph I am the slowest on my commute to the city. Manufacturers seem to exaggerate potential distance however if you have a flat area and ride casually 25% below maximum speed then I'm sure those figures can be close.
Again that isn't practical in reality. but if you plan on an extended ride it is worth knowing.

Combined gearbox/motor is definitely the way manufacturers ought to go for compact, suburban bikes with hub motors. I am assuming that the rider gets the benefit of the gearing as well as the motor. If not, I'm not quite so impressed.
Shimano is the company I'd pick to develop such things as they have expertise in both motors and hub gears. It "just" has to be done in a way that doesn't make the rear of the bike too heavy and it also must be robust.

The problem for me is a bike at this price range would take me 10 years to pay off in saved diesel cost.
A while ago having seen an evrc episode about a "budget" e-bike at £600, I worked out that even at £600 it would take 2 years of riding to work 5 days a week at my car's MPG to break even. I work hybrid so go to the office less than that which makes the payback longer and then there is also the weather, I'm not gonna ride it in rain or snow. So 10 years is a conservative estimate for a bike north of £1500.
Where are the budget e-bikes? Everything is so expensive, I couldn't possibly justify spending over £300.

I have the original ado air 20. I think the non pro version is perfect for a normal city commute.
However I do think it lacks power over steep inclines, especially steep inclines over longer distance. This is also where the single gear becomes an issue, as you can't just go down a gear. So I just end up brute force pedalling up 😅.
To be clear, it's great for normal commute or the occasional hill (like a bridge), which is perfect for my use. But it does have drawbacks depending on your individual circumstances.

Man do I have a different A20 to everyone else?
My knees are killing me on hills and I have to change gears to the highest. Admittedly I am not the fittest! But still, this make it seem like a doddle

battery on the seat post means you cannot put a seatpost suspension to lessen the bumps of being a hard tail bike (no rear suspension).
seat post suspensions are usually what i prefer with folding bikes like these because they always lack rear suspension to keep it portable and lighter.
the motor is underpowered, but i guess the use case is lightweight that you can pedal if you run out of battery.
however i would prefer the velotric fold 1 over this because you can put a suspension seatpost because the battery is in a different spot, is ipx rated water proof for rain, 120 lbs rear rack weight capacity, still lean and lightweight enough to pedal without power, folds well, has more power than this motor.

Odd that there's no "no entry" signs on the one way road.

10:03 "the advantage of lower cadence is that you can tackle those hills" Say what? It's actually the opposite!

what would be cool is,, that the bike would regenerate going downhill, there by getting back the range you lost going up hilll

There's an argument against that for something like a bike as it adds weight.

It's not worth it, you might get 2% more range at best. Regenerative braking works better with heavier vehicles.

When you were going down the hill, you said it was a one-way road that was ok. You were only going one way 😂

I don't see how the PRO helps on a hill? Normally on a hill you switch back to a lower gear so this PRO switching to a higher gear at 20km/h seems completely counterproductive for a hill.
That said I have the regular air 20. It is pretty nice but I dislike the high cadence at 25km/h. The peddling is very light so it doesn't cost any effort but you still tire because of the huge amount you are peddling. The pro does seem like it does that better. Switching to a higher gear to make the cadence lower is great. I didn't think the difference in the heaviness of peddling would be very noticeable although you said it was more of a workout so maybe I am wrong there?
