It's the controller, not the motor. I'm an engineer who has tested it, and the stock Rad motor handles 1641 watts just fine. What you see in the Bolton video is a fatter magnet shell which is 14mm wider, but they don't show you the big empty space inside. Rad starts with a 500 watt stator core for reduced weight (which is why the build sheets from Bafang say 500), but it's custom wound with heavier wiring than the Bolton upgrade motor (0.65mm for Rad, 0.55mm for Bolton). In our tests with the same power fed by identical aftermarket controllers, the Rad motor had higher startup torque, identical acceleration times (0 to 20mph in 4.8 seconds), and ran at lower temperatures. The downside to the Rad motor was having an internal RPM limiter that cannot be bypassed. If I did not need the extra speed for group rides, I'd stick with the Rad motor because it climbs hills better and is lighter.

On my existing Radrover 5, I can set the top speed to 40 km / 24 miles per hour. Is it possible to do this also on the new Radrover 6? I test rode the new RadRover 6 yesterday and couldn't find this adjustment setting? Great review, thanks from Seattle.

i used to be a motorcyclist for many years - then people in cars almost killing me finally got me to stop at age 31. i tried riding dirt bikes for about 2 years now, but the vibrations kill my wrist and its extremely tiring and takes tons and TONS of time just to be able to get to the destination. 5 mins ago i ordered this rad 6 plus and i cannot wait to finally ride a decent quality / decent motor / decent battery e-bike from a good company. thanks for the review!
I have tried to purchase several times but due to my small town location would not work. Just figured out a location it will ship and I bought it! I have my fingers crossed that I will get it👍
Great review. My favorite detail was the higher PAS pedal performance. I didn't like that I would have to jackhammer the pedals to do anything on higher levels on other bikes.
@@billwheeler1213 I have about 160 miles on it now, and I seriously recommend it, it is probably the best thing I have ever had, I can go around my town easily now, and can take myself to after school activities and to friends houses and whatnot. If you have the money, it is seriously worth it.
Sorry that I have not been able to find service or parts for the two RAD ROVERS I own . Been waiting close to a month now. For new LCD display . The service locations Rad Lists for Southern California do not service their products The RAD mobile service does not return calls
I'm not as price sensitive and only looked at this because my first choice Priority Current has everything I want, mid-drive, 140 crazy torque, gates belt drive (no chain!), and integrated battery and great monster hill climbing BUT no throttle (most mid-drives don't have it). I am coming around to not caring about the integrated battery but just wish the chain would be replace with belt drive on these and you got my money. Great review btw.
definitely seconding this. Priority current is still my first choice tbh, but I would be so sold on these if it was belt drive. I have another priority bike and not having to worry about my chain getting destroyed is just such a game changer. They aren't joking about low maintenance, the only time I ever had to worry about maintenance on mine was due to finnicky upgrading parts lol.
Great looking bike but having an integrated battery means doing an upgrade will basically be impossible, that's a massive bummer. Would be nice if it pushed the pice of the 5 down a bit but at least they're releasing new stuff
Just got mine, assembled it, looks great but it doesn't work and in a week the only advice they had was to replace the fuse in the battery, the battery that they say you must NOT open or you will void the warranty. They just cut and paste replies without even looking to see what product you are writing about. Forget calling, they say they have stopped answering support calls. If you can't walk into their store and buy a bike, don't even consider it.
I purchased this bike, loved it and then on the 8th ride, the pedal broke off and almost sent me flying. The pedal is stripped and will not stay on the bike. Their phone lines are always closed and they do not respond to warranty (or any) emails. $2000.00 for an un-rideable bike. Don't do it, folks.
I've been considering the adventon aventure but now this new rad power has me 2nd guessing myself. The Aventure has 80 mm of front travel versus the radpower 60 mm in fork travel not sure if that's a big difference. I've seen mixed reviews on customer service on adventon for customer service, but as far as the specs on the bike any recommendations would be would be appreciated... This will be my 1st E bike so trying to get any recommendations posssible.

@@bobo42024 I find it comfortable, I bought the most padded seat they sell when I purchased the bike and never tried the one that it came with. I always hated cycling because the seats were not comfortable but I can ride this for hours.
i'm envious. i paid about as much for the same bike a little over 2 years ago, cuz i had to pay for fenders, etc. i have had a few problems too, that the upgrades seem to fix, like the battery mounted lock routinely screws up. that actually happened under warranty, but they kind of blew me off. my lectric xp has been a much better experience, but i still like riding the rover. if this was an option when i bought mine, i think it would have been much better for me, cuz i have to pole vault up onto it. i'm 5'8", but have a short inseam.

Yeah, this is the 6th or 7th (being the Plus) edition of the model. So, it doesn't make sense to make long reviews every time a new model comes into the market. I believe he still has the Reviews from Model 1-6 for you to review or go over with.
Thoughts on RadRover 6 Plus vs. Radrunner Plus? I am planning on pulling the trigger on a car replacement. The Rover 6 Plus would definitely get a rear and front rack. I am wondering if the upgrades of the new Rover outshine the RadRunner Plus and are worth the price gap. Biggest attraction to me is the upgraded motor but with the lack of a center councel option and having to add on additional costs for a rear rack it's a tough decision for me.
Don't do it their overpriced garbage, they're severely underpowered for the price. If you take the motors out of the case they're like a 350 watt motor, maybe a 500 at best, then they're paired with weak controllers. I think they have 16 amp controllers maybe 16.5. I'm not crazy about the new XP I like the old XP a lot better but once you derestrict them their head and shoulders above any Rad. They have Motors that are closer to 750 watts and 18 amp controllers.
@@keithlaurenz3774 agreed depends on your need. Rad bikes are just underpowered. I have the 26in Speedrid, they're only about 1100, way more powerful than the radrover. Check them out on Amazon they get great reviews. There's really only one drawback to it which is, the motor is wired directly into the controller, which makes removing the freewheelin a little more challenging. But in my opinion anything that rad makes is just complete chunk because they refused to give them more power which would cost them next to nothing to do. Ancheer also makes another really nice bike it's a 500 watt, 27.5 mountain bike. They're marketed is only 500 watts but they have a lot more power than you would think.
@@mjsmjs7905 I do want power... My main focus is getting from A to B in the fastest way but also I want cargo space to run errands. I did have my eye on the HyperScorpion. All the power I want and with cargo space but it's more moped than bike. I think I would rarely pedal that thing and just throttle. I still want to pedal and do so comfortably. I am also eyeing the Tern bikes for a mid-drive option. I will check those out this weekend and I have test ride with the Rad bikes this weekend scheduled so it will all be telling by the end of the week.
@@keithlaurenz3774 have you checked out the Bandit, a little expensive but those things are supposed to fly like 40 plus, I've heard mixed reviews in general about to Juiced Bikes . Those scorpions way over a hundred pounds.
Yeah great you can't use one of the thousand's of rad batterys out there. It's the SOS but with more expensive battery and you can't use any battery you may have
Bought one and HATE IT!!! It is truly limited to 20mph so all other bikes pass me and they won't even let me return it (11 miles on it and didn't keep the entire box). Save yourself the slowness - BUY ANY OTHER BIKE INSTEAD!!! THE 6 SHOULD BE DEEP 6'D
That's awesome that Rad power came out with a new bike. I watched 2 reviews can someone tell me is it a true 750w motor or is it a 500 peaking at 750w Trust me people need to know when they're spending that kind of money on a Ebike. That's great that it could climb hills and you added more torque. what's the peak power
Depends on area. U.S has the 750 watt version availble, in Canada we have 500 watts, which is our limited amount of watts allowed. In Europe I think it's only 250.
I like the red one with 6 plus it's awesome bike I have a 20/20 Red Rover that brother is awesome I like the new design I like a new motor too that it's working handling
I was considering buying a Rad bike, but since they stripped all the good parts, taken out a good motor and replaced it with a cheap, 3x less powerful one for Europe, then hiked the prices, I decided to skip them.
Don’t get the Super 73 if you want a bike you can actually pedal as the seat height is not adjustable and most riders can’t achieve proper leg extension. The Rad Rover is the best value on the market. Feel assured that you are making a good decision.
I wonder if you can shift that second screen toward the middle of the bars. I foresee myself falling and that being the first thing to break. Probably expensive to replace too. Wished they switched up the gear switcher
Nice review. Can't believe they didn't upgrade the battery?? The Himiway still out ranges it. The first co. that includes a suspension seatpost will absolutely kill it! LOL 👍😎🚴
You can add a suspension seat post for a pittance, but I did (Shimano) and honestly am not sure it was worth it. My Rad Rover is not the latest but it's arguably among the greatest.
interesting. Rad is German for "bike." actually, it means wheel but, Rad is also the abbreviation for Fahrrad or Motorrad, bicycle or motorcycle, respectively.
Say it with me crap!!! Get the Ancheer Speedrid 26in instead. Amazon selling it now for $1,100. Marketed as a 500w, but it's bigger than the motor that comes on the radrover and Peaks at around 950, if you upgrade the battery Peaks around 1050. Awesome trail bike too, climbs like you wouldn't believe on a trail for $900 less, the Radrover doesn't even come close. And I've been able to outrun every rabid dog that wants to bite my face off.
Looks like Radpower is competing with Aventon now. I like the Rad brakes a lot better. Yes I am an Aventon level owner. Been trying to get new pads for 6 months now. Beware of this people.
I've been considering the Aventon aventure. what are your thoughts on their reliability and customer support versus this new radpower 6. any helpful comments to for my decision would be greatly appreciated.
Hold the battery button down for three seconds and it'll go into a sort of sleep mode and bike will not turn on. Hold down again for three seconds and the bike will turn on.
So much for Radpower's universal battery system. Not a step forward in progress. We don't want ebike companies to all become like car manufacturers with completely proprietary parts. Maybe better for weight distribution, but it's a step backwards in sustainability.

An extra battery is $500+ ish
Oh, the review forgot to mention that the tail light is also a break light when breaks applied.
Go get one and Rad Out.
I have 1800 miles as my daily driver and one almost fatal accident to my name. I have literally driven this in thunderstorms a d blizzards and come through alright (bundle up). I leave it outside in the elements during rain or hail. This bike will get you there. You just gotta ask yourself, do you need to go?
On my existing Radrover 5, I can set the top speed to 40 km / 24 miles per hour. Is it possible to do this also on the new Radrover 6? I test rode the new RadRover 6 yesterday and couldn't find this adjustment setting? Great review, thanks from Seattle.
Can you tell us if it felt any different than your RAD5? did it feel like it had a good amount of torque?..how were the brakes?....thinking Of buying this bike but if the rad 5 felt the same I might look to save some money. Any help would be appreciated.
I hacked my software to increase the limit (look on Google) but really, 20 MPH is plenty fast.
That’s a good looking bike from rad, never thought I’d say that
Haha! What are you trying to 'incinerate'...? Ha! Are you saying you don't think the Rad Runner 1 is sexy...?
@@woodsculptor675 insinuate
Based on that haircut I'd say you don't have great taste to begin with
@@jordanmiles106 It was a joke.
@@jmyers1072 Ouch!
Are those large tires more susceptible to flats than the thinner variety?
Why would they be? I've gone 5 years without a flat.
My question what do you consider rad rover 6 vs priority bicycles ebike. Which is more value for money. Please help me Mike.
i used to be a motorcyclist for many years - then people in cars almost killing me finally got me to stop at age 31. i tried riding dirt bikes for about 2 years now, but the vibrations kill my wrist and its extremely tiring and takes tons and TONS of time just to be able to get to the destination. 5 mins ago i ordered this rad 6 plus and i cannot wait to finally ride a decent quality / decent motor / decent battery e-bike from a good company. thanks for the review!
Mine is on the way! Yay!! I appreciate the great review.
I need help deciding on a bike seems like the Wallke X3 Pro is a good bike, but I also like this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What is best price on entry level rad power commiter city bike? Maybe 1k 1200
How many hours does the battery last?
Very good review! I’m getting one for my 13th b day, and I can not wait. This looks awesome.
Please post your comments on it. My 13yo also is looking at one.
@@billwheeler1213 I have about 160 miles on it now, and I seriously recommend it, it is probably the best thing I have ever had, I can go around my town easily now, and can take myself to after school activities and to friends houses and whatnot. If you have the money, it is seriously worth it.
Nice Bike, buuuuut. All those features and not even a simple chainguard?
Rubber band on your pants!
What is the torque in Nm? They used a pretty low end shifter. Definitely not as nice as a RapidFire that goes below the handlebar.
Will that display work on previous generation rover?
Sorry that I have not been able to find service or parts for the two RAD ROVERS I own .
Been waiting close to a month now. For new LCD display .
The service locations Rad Lists for Southern California do not service their products
The RAD mobile service does not return calls
@@max_daisy Nice. Glad you are happy with it
Please which is the best vloetric nomad 1 or roven 6 plus .
Ceramic brakes? Those are just barely necessary on sports cars. That's an option to increase their profit margin.
Great looking bike but having an integrated battery means doing an upgrade will basically be impossible, that's a massive bummer. Would be nice if it pushed the pice of the 5 down a bit but at least they're releasing new stuff
Right, and any replacement batteries must be theirs!
Please consider asking Radrover to offer a brighter display that can be seen in bright sunlight in Florida such as a TFT or OLED or LED display.
Looks like a great bike. I'm wondering if there's some kind of option to replace the seat with some form of suspension?
Looks like a standard bicycle seat, so you can use pretty much anything you eant
Can the Rad Rover 6 plus be upgraded to ride a person on bike?
If they wanted my business, Rad needs to do a 60v bbshd with front and rear suspension.
You can always ask them to upgrade to that.
Buy a radrunner
The Adventure is literally better in every way and it's cheaper. Plus, it's in stock so you don't have to wait months on end for a bike.
@@independentmind85 accept in customer service. I've tried calling them at least 7 they never answer the phone.... What I see people writing on RUclips reviews about it being non existent is a 100% true
750W motor and a throttle. No throttle, no deal!
I’ve been looking at Haybike and Radio Flyer. I went and test rode the Plus. It’s very nice. Rides very smooth and big. I’m 6’2”. I really like that they have a shop close to me.
Great review, I have a rad rover plus and really enjoy it! My wife's little dog loves to go for rides in the pet carrier up front. I'm sure I get a lot of attention especially because they don't expect a 6'3 guy my size with a dog in a carrier!
Is the bike comfortable for you? This thing is one sale right now for $2000 (CAD) .
I want to buy it but I am 6'4" so I'm a little skeptical.
@@bobo42024 I find it comfortable, I bought the most padded seat they sell when I purchased the bike and never tried the one that it came with. I always hated cycling because the seats were not comfortable but I can ride this for hours.
Great review. Many thanks from across the Pond!
Ya did a real nice job. Told me exactly what I wanted to know. Thanx
i'm envious. i paid about as much for the same bike a little over 2 years ago, cuz i had to pay for fenders, etc. i have had a few problems too, that the upgrades seem to fix, like the battery mounted lock routinely screws up. that actually happened under warranty, but they kind of blew me off.
my lectric xp has been a much better experience, but i still like riding the rover. if this was an option when i bought mine, i think it would have been much better for me, cuz i have to pole vault up onto it. i'm 5'8", but have a short inseam.
I bought mine a day ago RAD 6 The Waiting Game so i watched all the videos ,i can fix my own ride if needed , will buy another battery for long range riding ( OLD DUDE ) but not dead yet ;-}
shipping Starts in September
Same here Paul...67yo here. Got mine a week ago. I'm in Palm Springs California (hotter than hell here 108°) so haven't even able to leave my class A Coach for most of the day. A breeze is being in front of the open oven at Thanksgiving. Lol. Anyways after I get a feel for it I'll get another battery for the backpack as with anything electric, be prepared.
@joe schmo Another battery for sure :) 67 years here also < went to a New Park and Ride for the bus , all flat and i forgot to drop the assist down to like 1 to 3 and it was on 5 when i simply turned and the bike kicked in on the turn and i went down ,nothing got hurt ( slow) but that won't happen again < Got mine Sept , and still learning do's and don't and i ride a mountain bike also this is different , i wear all the safety gear ,got a rearview cam a must / You get to ride all year, here we have a winter and i won't do it, Not a kid 🚴🚴♀️🚴♂️🙂❤️🤍💙, Peace Joe
How many speeds? Is it fast?
This doesn't sound like a review at all to me. It sounds more like a marketing video.
He's being informative without being long-winded, obviously you haven't watched any of these videos before. Feel free to waste your time and watch a half hour video that'll eventually tell you the same thing
Yeah, this is the 6th or 7th (being the Plus) edition of the model. So, it doesn't make sense to make long reviews every time a new model comes into the market. I believe he still has the Reviews from Model 1-6 for you to review or go over with.
Just got mine today. Love it.
Question, can that frame accommodate small frame riders?
They lowered the minimum seat height so it does fit a wider range now.
Have you ever seen one of these bikes in real life? They're massive, get a radrunner you'll be happy
@@mjsmjs7905 Too bad the XPs are fugly and I don't have any interest in a folding bike. Don't need it and prefer a solid frame.
How does one change the time?
The gear shifter on the handle bars is super cheap and clunky. I bought a $16 one from Amazon that fit and works better.
why dont they offer it in UK? just detune motor to 250w and if we want, we can unlock remaining power on the settings
Great Video, I love my Radrunner 2 it's an amazing bike. From the UK
Yeah great you can't use one of the thousand's of rad batterys out there. It's the SOS but with more expensive battery and you can't use any battery you may have
Is this better than adventure 2 avton
Bought one and HATE IT!!! It is truly limited to 20mph so all other bikes pass me and they won't even let me return it (11 miles on it and didn't keep the entire box). Save yourself the slowness - BUY ANY OTHER BIKE INSTEAD!!! THE 6 SHOULD BE DEEP 6'D
It clearly states that 20mph is the fastest it goes. You should learn how to read lol.
@@lukejones2929 lolololololol
You can unlock it to 24 MPH
You are just sad, slow and dumb…
That's awesome that Rad power came out with a new bike. I watched 2 reviews can someone tell me is it a true 750w motor or is it a 500 peaking at 750w Trust me people need to know when they're spending that kind of money on a Ebike. That's great that it could climb hills and you added more torque. what's the peak power
Depends on area. U.S has the 750 watt version availble, in Canada we have 500 watts, which is our limited amount of watts allowed. In Europe I think it's only 250.
"That kind of money?" Guess you haven't priced Specialized or other big names.
When do you get your tiny Chinese truck?
Well done man. Looks great
This is torque sensored?
How do you change the clock time on the lcd
how do i charge the battery?
This is my next bicycle and it will be my first e-bike. Can't wait to get one!
Don’t get the Super 73 if you want a bike you can actually pedal as the seat height is not adjustable and most riders can’t achieve proper leg extension.
The Rad Rover is the best value on the market. Feel assured that you are making a good decision.
Does anyone know how to raise the handlebars?
Awesome review!
Nice pleasant review. 👍🏻
Eh....so now we have two screens to look at? Not my style. I do like the full hydraulic brakes, though.
I agree. Two screens is absolutely ridiculous. I usually like Micah, but this was really a stretch to find a way to say anything positive about that.
Is the aventon aventure still the better choice?
No
I wonder if you can shift that second screen toward the middle of the bars.
Great bike but the battery is way too small at 14ah, most manufacturers are making them with 20ah batteries
What’s the weight of the bike? Thanks!
74lbs...step thru is 72lbs
interesting. Rad is German for "bike." actually, it means wheel but, Rad is also the abbreviation for Fahrrad or Motorrad, bicycle or motorcycle, respectively.
can any of their bikes do 28 mph?
Very tall. If you are short it is still do-able but have to hop on and off when stopping.
Good video and to the point
Cool bike.
Wish there was a way to disable power without removing battery.
Anyone can walk up and hit the power button.
