Love, love my RadRunner! I’m 69 and have it as my grocery getter on a rack behind my motorhome. Rad has tons of videos out on how-to’s. I found all of them very helpful. I added the upgraded display upgrade. Basket on back as Arkansas doesn’t allow passengers on bikes. I also added mirrors and the console and fenders.

Awesome Steven, I have no doubt you'll love it! Remember to install the fenders AND the wheel skirts while the wheel is off as I stated in my video. It will save you a lot of headache and some tore up knuckles. Write back after you put it together and ride for a day or two. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the bike... Good luck my friend and happy riding!

I rode a RadWagon 12 thousand miles over a 2 year period. Rad bikes (which I love and would buy again) are not built to withstand the rigors of high speed riding. If you "hack" your controller to gain speed, you will significantly increase wear on the components and be at risk of catastrophic failure. If you do hack your controller for more speed, I highly suggest you first upgrade your brakes, spokes, cassette, chain and chain ring. I rode my Rad at the highest assist settings when I first got it and had so many issues. It was not until I started to moderate my use of assist that the bike rode without failure. After a couple of years I did want more speed and more power to go up hills so I sold the Rad and built a bike to spec. I now ride a Haro with a BBSHD motor but I still need to moderate my speed to conserve the longevity of the components. Same issue, I got the bike put together and started riding at full assist (which got me top speeds of around 35mph on the flats). The chain (KMC) stretched out with under 1000 miles on it and the rear cassette went shortly after. Now I ride it in a moderate assist level and only bump it up on occasion. Lastly, if you hack your controller and burn out your motor by over working it, your warranty will be void and Rad will not replace or fix it. P.S. If your bike can assist at speeds over 23 miles an hour and has a throttle, it is considered a Class 3 eBike in Washington state and can not be ridden on any sidewalks or trails. Rad Power bikes with throttles are governed at a max speed of about 20mph which makes them Class 2 out of the box. Class 1 and 2 bikes can be ridden virtually anywhere a peddle bikes are allowed.

*HOLY SHIT!* *"Catastrophic Failure?* *Okay then, I'm 'all done' with the idea of an 'E-Bike'*
( I'm starting 'year 4' with my '08 Honda 'Metropolitan' and in 66-years it's the most dependable machine I've ever
had including many other M/C's and cars since I was 14...with a saddle the size of a 'Barcolounger' and the ability to
haul my fat-ass and a cubic-yard of groceries at 42-mph and 'sipping fuel from a thimble' while doing it)
*I love toys as much as any other guy, but the idea of spending hundreds or thousands on a 'really cool bike that
powers itself' and then find-out it's an endless 'problem child' that has to be 'babied' and 'upgraded' from a 'base
model' really SUCKS in my opinion*

in canada i believe that your e bike of any kind cant be over 500 watts of power and cant exceed speed of 32 or more or else it falls into a different class and is now more bs im just getting into these new e bikes to ive watched so many vids im stuck at what i want/need i love the super 73s2 the rad runners ,rayvolt ringo or the blast outsider from vintage iron cycles. Maybe a sur ron? but thats kinda a dirt bike not road legal maybe with mods? but all those bikes are different in there own way and how you would use them ... still makes it so hard to choose i do know i want something that can go anywhere a person walks or bikes and can do dirt /grass trails well and hills without going less then 15

@@dadrunner8056 So your just going to believe anyone who posts a comment? lol, Chains don't stretch for one, the pins wear on the side plates etc. And you should defiantly replace a chain before 1000 miles if your riding hard, duh. So of course your cassette went soon after. It wore out with the chain there genius.

Thanks for sharing! I, too, find the RadRunner a fun ebike. I purchased the standard setup and built it up with the add-on backseat package and the fender package. I also added a 6" motorcycle headlight to it since Rad do not have any to sell. My only complain about the bike: when I tried to install the back fender it was really hard to remove the 3 screws, Rad put those screws in too tight that the screwheads were damaged & I had to use extractor bits to get them out (not too sure why Rad did it since the fenders package comes with the screws anyway).
Talk about the add-ons, most of them are sold out, including their new headlight upgrade. It has great battery for sure, and at $1,299 it's a steal.
    Happy "Rad-ing"!

An interesting accessory for Rad Power Bikes is a Veltop attachment for riding in the rain .
It has a front windshield with a canvas cover for riding in the rain.
Apparently the new model (Veltop Urban) gets around having to attach it behind your back seat like the older model (Veltop Classic 3 and earlier) did.
In addition it has a front basket making it more stable.
I attached this on my RadRover a few years ago however it did require modification as it normally would not attach on the handlebars (I used a Handlebar accessory extender).
One note is that the old model (Classic 3) used fiberglass rods to hope up the canvas roof.
These annoyingly broke a lot so I replaced them using two whip antennas for a CB radio that I cut for the right length.
The steel whip antennas also made the front windshield far more stable being mounted.
Before it was kind of iffy and the windshield would sometimes flop back annoyingly.
My crude home made hacks fixed these issues.
It was a little difficult to get on and off the bike but like I said earlier the new model (Veltop Urban) for upright bikes gets around this and the fiberglass rod issue might not be a problem for that model..
I did have to wear gaiters around my legs because even with the mud/rain guards on the bicycle rain would still splash on to my legs.
But after these fixes it was very pleasant and even preferable to ride in rainy weather (I would be one of the very very few cyclists on the trails and streets
I reached 4,000 miles on my RadRover but going through a crosswalk with the signal clear in May 2019 I had a truck driver not visible in the cab go through a red light and hit my bike.
I pedaled as fast as I could with the throttle and escaped being struck. However the bike was hit badly and the rear wheel was hit. I consider it perhaps totaled. Even my Veltop windshield got scratched badly. The driver did not stay and took off doing a hit and run. So I have been without my ebike for about a year and a half. It was a lot of fun while it lasted. If there is a another stimulus check coming perhaps I will get another one.
I might even opt for the less expensive RadRunner as it's easier to get on and off a Veltop equipped bike with one that's Open Step.
However looking at the geometry of the handlebars on the Radrunner a crossbar would have to be welded on them. With the RadRover one could easily get around that

I did not see the LCD in the accessories list, maybe out of stock as well, but thanks to your tip, definitely will be on the look out to get that extra speed. Just got one (Radrunner) for my wife - doubled her around Banff where we live. Runs great - did some knuckle damage getting the accessories added and two screws were torqued to tight and stripped when trying to get them out so the rear fender is on with 2 screws instead of 3 and the console is on with 3 instead of 4.
Doesn't do hills around here as well as I hoped but is like riding in first on our none electric bikes but a greater distance per peddle so it gets up the hill with some oomph I have to add to get to the next flat spot.
They threw in the front light though I thought I had to order it as an extra - that was cool - THANKS RAD - and I love that the brakes activate a brake light behind the passenger seat.
The cup holder and the phone holder on the console are both too small - I will have to go to the plumbing store and get two sizes of PVC and glue that together to make a kick ass cup holder - maybe even make it to hold 2 cups and a bottle of wine ;) - mount to fit into theirs.
I like your video and it's content ;) - maybe retool the showroom part and slow it down so no one falls off or gets sick from that ride. Though the sped up part with you and your son installing the accessories was a great idea to put content ;) without boring the audience overtly.
Have a blast with you new bike and I love the comments with all the ideas to enhance this bike even more.
    35K views in 2.5 months - That's pretty RAD for a new channel. ;) ;)

    • @jamescockrum1365

@@ki4low234 - uhmm... Actually... I would love to have one, but I have a Kawasaki dirt bike, a quad and a couple of gas powered bikes and this bike fills the bill for what I wanted, an electric utilitarian bike with some minor off-road capabilities that will mostly be used on the road - that being said - it would be a blast to ride an off road electric bike like that without engine noise. I think from what I've seen they are great bikes with more than enough power to have a ton of fun. On the budget factor, I got this bike with all available options accept one box for half the price and can swap options to customize it for the mission of the day. The Onyx would be one of my TOP choices for a bike of that class, but again, it was not what I was looking for when I purchased this bike. - I've only just gotten my Radrunner day before yesterday and so far I am VERY pleased with this bike and Rad Bikes, Keenan, in customer service who helped me with some questions provided excellent service. Infact I am considering purchasing 3 more bikes from Rad this week, 1 for my wife and 2 more for my boys, they are just trying to figure out which models they want.
Maybe sometime in the near future I'll be in the market for another ebike for strictly off-road and the rcr will DEFINITELY be on the options table.

My disabled brother-in-law bought one. I've been bicycling for 57 years. This bike is well built and has some cool accessories. This is also the biggest waste of money for an e-bike. They won't sell you tires or inner tubes and the ones that come on the bike are cheap. Most bikes sold don't come with "the best" tires and tubes. Rad Power Bikes have tubes and tires in stock but are keeping them for new bike sales. It's now an almost $2,000 paper weight. The 22x3 tires are only used by Rad. No one else makes them or the tubes. They sell an equally bad "armored liner" meant as an adapter so you can use 22x1.75 tubes in the 22x3 tires. Why is there not a class action suit against them?

Great review! Thanks for posting. I've heard the 'Pannier' pronounced many different ways, of course I'm from Missouri where we can't even agree how to pronounce the name of our state.
    A couple of questions:
    How long/far is your commute?
How much weight does each accessory add to the bike?
I would have loved some closer video of each of the accessories mounted.
Whats included in that tool kit.
I assume you ordered the new seat from someone else?
Did you get any extra tires / tubes? I assume it has tubes.

I'd love a detail of taking the back wheel off.
Once again thanks! I'm looking forward to more videos.

And lastly was it too much trouble to move and remount the front light to make the front rack system work? Appreciated!!!

I have a 2018 RadMini it is very well made. I have 1000 miles and 18 months on the bike. The build is sturdy and strong will last a life time. My disappointment is in the power and the claim of 750 watts and 80 newt meters of torque. These claims are misappropriations of labeling standards. Actual newt meters are around 30 and the 750w motor is too a 500w. I won’t go into details but the Ebikes community has much concerning this online. You will not be able to comfortably handle hills fully loaded. Too if you get in a pinch and need some power to get out of it- it ain’t going to happen. American car drivers are arrogant, self absorbed ie, this is my road drivers. You need to get out of a pinch and this bike will not allow that. Be careful going into intersections and the light changes.

Yeah I remember someone else saying you need to get a seat post to change the seat but it's an opportunity to get another piece of shock absorption in if you find the right one. What mirror did you install? I haven't found one I'm confident will fit on the handlebars so it would be nice to know what option is tried and true. Thanks for the hecka dad vibes and hello from shoreline 🤙

Hello Josilyn, how about this? Being a fellow Washingtonian, I'll do a video for you to help answer your questions. Keep checking back, it will be up in the next day or two. Remember to click the likes and subscribe if you haven't yet? Happy riding!

    • @dadrunner8056
      @dadrunner8056  4 года назад +1

Hello again Josilyn. Do to timing It may be a bit longer than expected to do the video. I do however want to get your questions answered just in case. If you upgrade the seat you will need to purchase a new post. The size of the replacement post needs to be 27.2mm in diameter and no more than 390mm tall. As for the comfort, you can look into a replacement post with built-in suspension. A post like that will sit higher up, so based on your height that's something to consider. Now for the mirror. The mirror I went with is made by "Hafny" model number HF-MR095. I bought it on Amazon for about $25.
