    I had the same exact thing. Engine died at the stop sign. Started the engine again over and over, but ran really rough for a few seconds then sputtered and died. Absolutely NO codes. I Changed the MAF and started right back up and ran nice and smooth. Thanks for the video.

      Awesome! The lack of codes made this one tricky, but I’m glad it got you back on the road.

    My XTS is the same..it's really bad about throwing codes when it needs to. A scanner is usually needed to find out if you have codes.

    Is this what I used when my gas isn't reading correctly on my dashboard?! I've gotten a new exhaust, tune up, oil change, she filters etc and a new battery. There is no gas leak. I've put fuel injector cleaner in there (Lucas). Any idea on why when I fill my gas, the mileage fluctuate without even driving or very little driving. For example, it can go from a half tank to a quarter and I only drive across the street.

    • @titansgarage
      @titansgarage  2 года назад

      Do you mean your gas gauge itself is fluctuating? If so, you have a very different issue than described here

    • @MsYakKi
      @MsYakKi 2 года назад

      @@titansgarage Yes. I'm just trying to pinpoint it before getting charge an arm and leg. What kind of issue would this be? I have no lights on.

    • @titansgarage
      @titansgarage  2 года назад +1

      @@MsYakKi I would almost assuredly say it is your fuel sending unit/ fuel level sensor. It is likely corroded or failed and is sending the wrong signal to the fuel needle. It is located in the fuel tank.

    • @MsYakKi
      @MsYakKi 2 года назад

      @@titansgarage okay thank you, so it just needs to be cleaned? Is there some product that I specifically buy? I've already tried the fuel injector cleaner twice.

    • @titansgarage
      @titansgarage  2 года назад +1

      @@MsYakKi Unfortunately, my experience is that the only fix is to replace the unit itself. I have not done it on the SRX before but on some vehicles you can access the fuel tank underneath the rear seat, however, on other cars you must drop the fuel tank to access the unit. It sits inside the gas tank and has a float on it to gauge the fuel level. It can be a job but it is not hard if you take your time.
      I also know some people who ignore it and just track their fuel mileage to ensure they do not run out of fuel. I do not prefer this path!

    Would you mine explaining how you scanned for the pending code? I had the autoparts store scan and there were no hard codes or check engine light.

    • @titansgarage
      @titansgarage  Год назад

      Hi Mike, most of the “nicer” scanners will show both pending and “hard” codes. I say nicer only to say mine was $90 and does this. Some of the $20-30 scanners do not.
      Effectively, a pending code will show when the ECM sees something abnormal and is watching to see if it happens again. It was strange because in the case of my SRX, it would run and die, but still was not setting that hard code.
      Something you can do cheap before you spend $50 on a new MAF sensor is simply buy a can of MAF cleaner and clean it, let it dry overnight and try it.

      Maybe get a second opinion but with so many sensors bad, this seems like a bigger issue than just a MAAF sensor

    Assuming that is the problem, do you need a scan tool to program the new mass air flow sensor, or can you change it and be good to go?

      @@titansgarage ok. Thanks. I just bought a 2010 SRX base model from my girlfriends Co worker. It stopped on him a week ago and he's not got with cars at all so without checking it out he had it towed home and bought a new Ford Bronco. We bought it from him for 1600$ towed it home last night and going to start checking it out when I get home from work. I'm thinking mass airflow sensor ad well. It happened to my girlfriends 2008 m35s back in 2018. Left her stranded off the freeway. It wouldn't crank only continually turn over. She said it was shaking bad and wouldn't accelerate good before it finally stalled. I got it towed home, took the intake off cleaned all parts most importantly the maf sensor with maff sensor cleaner. Put everything back and it ran like a champ. Still running like a champ here in 2022. I have the same symptoms with the SRX. Hope this I'd all it is.

      @@compound00 I think you're onto the problem for sure! When I cleaned the MAF it worked for ~4 weeks and then acted up again. I then replaced the MAF and had no issues since for about a year now.
