The Toyota Champ is going to be my next utility truck. I'll have to buy the sides to the bed to keep my feed where it belongs, but being able to fold down the sides as well as the tail gate is an awesome feature for a rancher. Being able to forklift a pallet of feed onto the truck from three directions is a great idea.
I have a 2014 SRX4. The 2 wheel version is probably faster but I have accidentally laid a 4 wheel patch. The only thing that has gone wrong is that the sunroof drain clogged and flooded the trunk, shorting the tailgate module and pump. Parking facing downhill worked until it could be fixed. Fixing this car is pretty easy and I'm not a mechanic but I have fixed everything that has gone wrong so far. Thanks Scotty great video.
My 2013 SRX ran 180,000 miles with no issues. Mobil one at 3-5,000 miles & ac filter. Trans fluid transfusion every 40,000. Oil changes helped me avoid chain slap caused by dirty oil.
I'm not a fan of modern Cadillacs mainly because I think they are more or less just rebadged Chevy SUVs with a 30% price mark up. Same with modern Lincolns. But, I would love to have a 1975 or 76 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz with the 500. Now that's a proper Cadillac.
If you fix a couple defects, they aren't bad engines. As long as you don't kill any computer modules. And as long as you dont mind taking the entire engine apart and making sure to put all new gaskets on everything that needs to be removed like when replacing the starter. I got the intake manifold off (,the starter is under it), then i noticed the valve covers leaking and had to get a special pulley remover for the water pump pulley (which needs to be removed to get the valve cover off), and don't forget you have to take, basically, the entire front end and radiator off, just to replace the alternator. Stuff like that. Lol
@@gigglybeastI had a 15 LaCrosse 3.6L with 142K before the accident which never had issues and now I replaced my 07 LS460 with a 14 CTS V-Sport Premium 3.6 twin turbo and so far no engine/electrical issues
Scotty, sorry but I need to correct you (rare). The replacement XT5 sells so well that GM has tried to discontinue it since 2021 but can't because there's so much demand, they just extended it to 2025. I think you're thinking of the XT4 which is a smaller vehicle. I'm a 50 year Cadillac owner had great ones and no so great (70's were not so well made) and can tell you my 2020 XT5 is my favorite. Better than any BMW or MBZ I've owned.
I have 2 Buick LaCrosses with the same engine. 200k on one and still going strong. GM recommends a Dexos approved oil (synthetic oil) on these and they are right. I change the oil every 5,000 miles regardless of percentage oil life left with Dexos approved full synthetic and both cars have treated me well without any major issues. I bought a Cadillac XT5 as well with an updated version of this engine. The Buicks have 305hp and the Cadillac has 325hp. All are “zippy” and fun to drive!
I have my 2001 Cadillac ElDorado ESC with the 32 valve V8 Northstar engine for over 2 years. No issues yet. It’s got 82K original miles on it and runs like a top.
Beautiful car! I've wanted one since i first saw them as a teenager when they were still being made. That generation of Cadillac had some incredible cars. Enjoy every moment you have with it. I hope that none of the Northstar - related issues find you.
My Mazda 3 just needs the wire unclipped, then turn the bulb assembly 90 degrees and out it comes. That's all it takes on something designed for ease of maintenance. Also dead simple: Battery changes, engine air filter, oil changes (though watch out for the crush washer you'll need to replace).
I have a 2009 CTS 3.6 DI. I was the only sale at that dealer in that month (this was when GM was going through bankruptcy) The dealer changed my extended warranty from 100K Mi to 75K Mi and I did not pay attention when I purchased the car (in 2009). At 99.7K Mi I got the recall for the timing issue. $7.8 K warranty work. However, the recall only covered the timing, it DID NOT cover the damage the timing issue did to the engine. Nor the fact that the breather tube on the Passenger side was replaced with a sensor causing the oil to coke in that area. Long story short, it cost me an additional $5.6K to rebuild the engine. Valve train, Cams, Bearings, 2 pistons, all of the rings, the works. That shyster Dealer cost me that $5.6K by pulling that switch and me not catching it. I will not ever, ever purchase another GM vehicle, for any reason, due to that experience.
Grandmas used Cadillac is a lawn ornament- it rubs but it needs repaired monthly- (we love the massive sunroof in it) so she got a 2012 Lexus. Much nicer car. Seats are not as comfortable but otherwise it is better.
I have essentially the same car, 2010 Equinox with the 3.0V6. The ONLY thing I wish I had done as part of the maintenance was regular (40K) transmission fluid exchanges. I didn't do that and the trans failed at 149K miles. I've used either Mobil 1, Penz Plat, Amsoil for oil and have changed it every 4-7K miles. It just turned 176K miles. I took it to Orlando and back in a day, probably a couple hundred miles at least and was getting around 26mpg.
I’ve had 4 different Cadillacs over the past 15ish years, tho always the CTS and all of them have lasted well over 250,000 with only general maintenance, oil changes, plugs and wires, ect.. and where still going after I got rid of them, only did got rid of them cause I wanted a newer model, currently have a CT5 with 120,000 and not a day of issues.. but those aren’t the suvs so maybe those are different.
The cadillac SUVs are just rebranded chevrolets..gmcs.. or buick suvs(get the buick even Scotty endorsed one), the srx/xt5 are just chevy captivas, the old xts was a chevy impala.. the ats, cts, ct4,5,6 are the only "true" cadillacs platforms
They went to the XT5 model. My wife had the 2014 SRX. Headlights were terrible at night. Bought the brightest bulbs I could install. GM had a fix … R&R headlight assemblies to the tune of $600. Recalled? Nope.
One would have thought that those at GM/Cadillac would have learned about downsizing with the Cadillac Cimarron debacle back in the 80's. but I guess not.
Later model GM V6's don't have the same issues with the timing chains as the earlier GM HF V6s. The problem was traced down to consumption of oil through the pcv system due to design flaw in the valve cover gasket and ventilation system. The revised system uses a different gasket with an integrated baffle to prevent as much oil from being ingested and the newer engines use improved hydraulic tensioners. An older engine can be easily retrofitted with the new valve cover gasket. However timing chain stretch and wear could be avoided in ANY of these engines by simply checking your oil level regularly as it was oil starvation that causes the excess heat leading to chain stretch and the damage to the tensioners. FYI the replacement to the SRX is the XT5 and it's actually a little bigger, comparable in size to the Honda Pilot/MDX and they've actually been selling well. Still think they are around $8-12k over priced in my opinion
I'm happy to hear that hopefully GM has upgraded the 3.6L. I've been considering a Cadillac and both the timing chain stretch and cylinder deactivation had me thinking that I'd buy a new one and either dump it before the drivetrain warranty ends or buy the factory extended warranty. For the moment, I'm sticking with my Subaru Legacy.
@@lkjh00on89 right around when they came out of with LFX series engines. In some models this was as early as 2010 but mostly this was resolved by 2012 mid way through the 3rd generation runs. These problems were pretty much remedied by the 4th generations that came out in 2016, but as stated there can be issues in vehicles where oil changes were neglected. for the record I had an ATS-V with the LF4 V6. Fantastic car, it was a monster on the track and felt much more responsive than the M3/M4. I always used Penzoil Platinum ultra and a Wix filter and that car had zero problems even with beating on it at the track
After watching this video I'm glad I did not buy a Cadillac and I bought another car with a manual transmission I was having some doubts about buying a cheap car with a manual but I did and after reading or listening about a Cadillac having timing chain issues when timing chains should never have problems made me glad I did not buy a CT 4 Cadillac

I've never seen this show from Scotty, but I wonder: Would a high end scan tool be worth it to help maintain and ward off problems for an iffy old used car? For models with known issues, would routine scanning let you catch and remedy an issue before it became big problem? Or are models with repair issues just going to fall apart because the parts are bad?
Almost every new car has electric parking brakes….I prefer manual parking brakes because if the battery dies and it needs towed, you can release the brake and move it
Hi Scotty. Love your knowledge & Humor. How about a video on a Lincoln MKS 2017-2022 or an MKZ same year span.? Thinking about one of those to start road tripping. Have I missed any on the Lincoln’s?
I have one of these at 121K miles (2012 MY)- engine is fine, so long as you change the oil regularly- timing chain stretch comes from prolonged oil changes- I was doing them every 5K, now at 4K and no oil consumed between changes. Lifetime tranny fluid? Nope- changed that at 60K and I just drained and filled that at 116K miles. Runs perfectly. The key as usual is proper oil/fluid changes. I recently had the O2 sensors changed (all 4) and it’s FWD- AWD is a pain as the subframe needs to be removed to get to the rear O2 sensors on the cat.
We had a 2010 SRX (3.0 v6) by 150k miles the motor locked up elderly driven and Cadillac dealer maintained . Right after that repair a whole other engine , a sensor went out inside transmission and it cost the same to replace with a less miles transmission than replace sensor. Was a beautiful car ours was loaded with dvds in headrest and custom mesh Cadillac grills all over but doesn’t matter when it won’t run….
Bought a 2009 srx4 a year and a half ago. No major issues until the fuel pump went out a couple months ago. $2000 to replace at the dealership. But then fuel gauge stopped working properly. Been 3 weeks waiting for them to figure that out....under warranty of course tho. So ive had 2 brand new loaner cars to drive in the meantime😅😅
Scotty is starting a beauty cover-manufacturing company. 😂 Don’t they have any other function? I heard they helped with heat dissipation? Just for looks?
I have owned 7 Cadillacs...from a 1974 Coupe de Ville to a recent 2018 XT5. They're not without some maintenance. But, Cadillac is the standard for Luxury and Quality. I've loved and enjoyed all the Cadillacs that I've owned. I am disappointed that the size of the Luxury car underwent some downsizing. I will say that of all my the Cadillacs, I never had engine problems with the Northstar. If you have mechanical issues, you pay more at the dealership service repair, but with a Cadillac, it will be repaired properly.
I've owned 3 of them, you couldn't give me another one, the Lincoln is a far better car, the Town Car beats them all, most trouble free car I've ever owned, and the best.
Got an 07 3.6l V6, 09 STS V 4.4 and a 2015 3.6l v6...I hate GM and I bought the 07 v6 from desperation. It is a great car and made me want to buy more. These cars came with a very detailed maintenance record however. I think these are great cars if cared for. I would so not buy one where I was unsure of maintenence. My 07 V6 STS is all original and runs beautifully, like hybrid quiet. Just change your oil, with the right oil, when needed!
"People want luxury SUVs but are sick of the ridiculous prices!" lol If the price isn't ridiculous it isn't luxury and if a common man can afford the repairs then it DEFINITELY isn't luxury. "It doesn't have to be better, it just has to be more expensive." - Cadillac internal company motto since 1954.
Well .if it didnt have the vvt on the engine cover..might be alright..had a 2000 dts with the northstar engine ..awesome car awesome engine..ride like it was new..never replaced engine belts ..just 2 coils..still smooth when i sold it..almost 8 years of running for two thousand ..northstar engine great..no problems...this caddy you have too new...a money pit..ha.
Check brake & transmission fluid levels. Have each wheel spin freely by hand to determine if a brake pad is stuck or wheel bearing is bad . Hope helps.
Woohoo, I’ve got a ‘14 SRX with 90k on it I bought from grandpa a few years back. Happy with it thus far but def baby it. Gunna take it for the long haul and see how she goes. Minor interior things still broke after the babying but it’s not the highest quality auto out there. gas hog but drives smooth as can be. Fingers crossed on the timing chains...

Hi Scotty. Love your knowledge & Humor. How about a video on a Lincoln MKS 2017-2022 or an MKZ same year span.? Thinking about one of those to start road tripping. Have I missed any on the Lincoln’s?
Don't buy a new Lincoln. They've got the same eco boost nonsense the ford's do. Get acura or lexus
I recently had the O2 sensors changed (all 4) and it’s FWD- AWD is a pain as the subframe needs to be removed to get to the rear O2 sensors on the cat.
scotty is getting all the dogs in the area all riled up.
Warren Buffett just bought a Cadillac after driving a Ford for 20 years❤
We had a 2010 SRX (3.0 v6) by 150k miles the motor locked up elderly driven and Cadillac dealer maintained . Right after that repair a whole other engine , a sensor went out inside transmission and it cost the same to replace with a less miles transmission than replace sensor. Was a beautiful car ours was loaded with dvds in headrest and custom mesh Cadillac grills all over but doesn’t matter when it won’t run….
you're like christopher walken on fast forword man i love hearing you
Bought a 2009 srx4 a year and a half ago.
Timing chain issue can be fixed, I think there is an alternate upgraded tensioner.
But it's a big job, & costly.
LFX engines have the timing chain problem solved, as long as you change synthetic oil at 500 mi intervals
GM puts a lot of Engineering into Planned Obsolescence rather than reliability !
Scotty, you actually said something nice about a GM product. What's this world coming to?
Is it me or is every issue with every car Scotty looks at “ perfectly normal”. When’s the last time he actually fixed something?
Great video, Scotty. Thanks.
Cadillac is undeniably a titan in the auto industry.
Caddy power I have one my uncle got brand new it was 45 k but it was for business but my next one will be brand new
I've owned 3 of them, you couldn't give me another one, the Lincoln is a far better car, the Town Car beats them all, most trouble free car I've ever owned, and the best.
Worst Balls Ever!
@ 1:22 306 hp a few minutes later 7:40 308 hp maybe that engine cover was weighing it down 🤔😁
"People want luxury SUVs but are sick of the ridiculous prices!" lol If the price isn't ridiculous it isn't luxury and if a common man can afford the repairs then it DEFINITELY isn't luxury.
"It doesn't have to be better, it just has to be more expensive." - Cadillac internal company motto since 1954.
Caddy put foam in the frame and so water collected and causes them to rot out. 😂 sure is quieter but the whole thing rusts out.
My neighbor has a 2014 Cadillac SRX Base with AWD. She only has 45,000 on it
I got 2 05,s no major problems, so far.
After changing cue it door wont close complete and both temp buttons up red and down blue stay on and bows hot Ac now
Worse car I've had ever owned was a 2007 sts v6 awd. Was needing its 4th set of timing chains when I traded it in.
GM junk
And here my 89 deville still going after all these years. Only oil changes and tires for me.
Scotty bout to make that check engine light permanent when it comes on 😂
Scotty your killing me with the camera motion.
The car buyer leaened what to look for by you, Scotty. Then he wanted you to verify the purchase. He got lucky twice!
The older srx and sts with the rwd Northstar where bulletproof
For some odd reason scotty reminds me of puppet with strings attached 🤔 😂 when he moves his arms i got distracted
1:10 There's NOTHING reliable about a GM 3.6L HF V6.
scottie has balls?!?!?!? Now THAT'S FUNNY!!!!!
Scotty, keep the camera more still, im getting a stroke trying to watch the detail of what your showing..
Scotty brought up a valuable point dead battery you can’t put your vehicle in park or take out park. So you gotta chalk the wheels. be fore warned.
New GM trucks must be running to take the trans out of park. Be fore warned.
I have a 05 SRX Northstar V8 131K miles runs great needs 2 cats and suspension work misfire on cylinder 7 tho 😂
Scotty kilmer always on top of things
2011 Chevrolet equinox with 3.0 v6 has grinding noises on slow acceleration what could it be ?
Check brake & transmission fluid levels. Have each wheel spin freely by hand to determine if a brake pad is stuck or wheel bearing is bad . Hope helps.
RIP Scotty Kilmer
Woohoo, I’ve got a ‘14 SRX with 90k on it I bought from grandpa a few years back. Happy with it thus far but def baby it. Gunna take it for the long haul and see how she goes. Minor interior things still broke after the babying but it’s not the highest quality auto out there. gas hog but drives smooth as can be. Fingers crossed on the timing chains...
Does Scotty edit his own videos and maintain 2 videos a day rate all by himself?
It’s just an overpriced Chevy😢Caddy is not an upscale luxury vehicle that it used to be. I miss my beautiful 1982 Coupe de Ville!
Every video he says lately “ use some of Bernie’s cleaner” promoting this cleaner lately.
Scott is it better to run my engine without the cover??
Can you inform me about the xts Cadillac I can’t find any videos about it and I’d like to know if there reliable or not
Got a steal of a deal. Lucky man.
I have a 2011 STS should I trade it for 2013 Volkswagen Jetta??
!959 Sedan Deville. That's a beautiful automobile. Now, not so much.
These crossover crapboxes are Chevys. The cars are Cadillacs.
I hear the transmissions in those are crap
SRX was replaced with the XT5, which is at least the same size if not slightly bigger
Can You please tell me ur options on 2019 Cadillac CRX sport utility 40
Scotty's enthusiasm never ceases to amaze 😂
Hey. Hey! I like that. Hey, guess what!?! Hey, the traction control isn't working so well. Good!
Awesome. 😅
Scotty's balls are so big he had to ditch the spare tire in his '94 Toyota Celica to make room for them.
The 2010 srx are bad with timing chains. By 2012 it was starting to get better
All these used cars are great until the first major repair that costs you a couple of grand. Then they become endless money pits .
Thanks Scotty for telling the truth😊
Scotty calling out the Mustang driver for obeying traffic laws on public roads is so 2024
It's another gm boat anchor?
What was the mileage on that SRX? Couldn’t understand it lol
Mileage on the SRX was 100,300.
Does it have a turbo for that size V6 engine to produce 308HP ?
Nope.
No
