Hello I have a question. This happens with every automatic car I buy. I accidentally switch gears from park to drive and let off the break too quickly. After a while of doing this on accident than the car doesn't switch gears smooothly while driving. It jerks forward and. Did I mess up the transmission and is this a big fix? Please help.
I have a 2013 honda cr-v it hesitates about the third crank it starts then my check engine light is on and other lights I just put a alternated on today doing what's in your video should that fix the problem or should I look into the full pump it doesn't bog down or skip going up a hill or nothing but when I run the car a bit I shut it off then when I get back in it it starts right up and the check engine light is off so could the mass air flow be the problem?
Hello, I have a problem with my 2003 Mercury sable, first of all it does a small series of things that I can’t for the life of me figure out the problem, After my car warms up a little and you happen to be at a stop light or at a hill and as soon as you press the gas peddle it jerks before it goes, like kinda a delay, here lately I noticed when I’m going down the highway with cruise control set at 65 going on level road it’ll ever so slightly slow down and speed up (like go to 63 and back to 65), and sometimes when you stop and put it in park it’ll start revving upwards of 2000-2500 rpms and stay there. No engine light has gone off except every now and then and I read the code it says “manufacture control” but that hasn’t happened in a couple months, also sometimes in park when it’s not revving up it’ll start revving up and down constantly and the car sometimes dies on its own, I went into the store one time and left my car running for the ac and when I came back out my car was dead and it ran the battery down since the accessories kept running, can someone please help me solve this problem!!!! The problems are starting to happen more often, please help me figure it out!! Thanks!
It may be some kind of simple sensor such as an oxygen sensor, MAF sensor, TPS sensor or other sensor. Is your air filter clean? It's possible you could have a throttle body sticking which you need to clean if it's dirty. Not having a check engine light on makes it more difficult to diagnose. You may need to take it to a good trust worthy mechanic. ruclips.net/video/cOAYWVBfuek/видео.html
I tested my maf sensor by starting my car and pulling out the maf sensor plug and the car stopped. Doesnt that mean the maf sensor is working properly. Im having power loss and lurching and hesitation when i accelerate and its getting very frustrating.
Hi I got kia Rio 1.3 2001 model they don't have mass airflow sensor. I change idle control valve but still hestitat special when engine is hot.when u shift to first gear u can't leaf the car move it own.I must always press accelerates

2001 mercedes C180 just got fixed thanks to your video. I did use brake cleaner because that is all i had at home. but it works better now. I did not clean it thoroughly though so I still have occasional sputtering. planning to just replace the MAF. I was worried that the brake cleaner would damage the MAF but it did not
proclaimliberty2000 didn't the can say not to use it on Toyota's? I know because I thought of using this once on my 06 v8 Tundra but I got discouraged as soon as I read "DO NOT USE ON LEXUS OR TOYOTA ENGINE'S" I use to work at AutoZone n a mechanic gave me advice n said to just replace it with an oem one from Toyota so how's it holding up for ya?
hi friend, you said that it would take 50 miles of driving for the check engine light to turn off. What if the check engine light wasn't turned on to begin with and I just wanted to clean the maf sensor? would the check engine light turn on after cleaning? thank you
As long as the key is not in the ignition it should not turn on the check engine light when you disconnect the MAF to clean it. ruclips.net/video/YnckaCCJEEk/видео.html
I’m going to try this tonight. I have a 2003 Ford Focus and I keep getting engine misfires (P0302) and often rough on acceleration from a stop. One time the car just decelerated on highway (only once - checked transmission and it’s fine). Plugs, wires, and cylinders all good. If this doesn’t work - what should I try next? So sorry to ask the question, but I’m on a tight budget and am doing it myself.
This does not sound like a mass air flow sensor problem. P0302 trouble code is an indication that cylinder #2 is misfiring and is not getting the necessary spark to its spark plug. It's very possible spark plug #2 has a loose electrical connection on the spark plug itself or a failing ignition coil which is very easy to replace. Let me know what happens.
proclaimliberty2000 should I test for ignition coil problems then? This problem has been here for so long and getting told to just replace spark plugs when I already did by a mechanic just shot me down. Regardless I might clean the MAF anyways for good measure. Thanks for your response!
My 96 Jeep Cherokee has a problem I can't diagnose. The symptoms are similar to a bad/ dirty Mass Airflow Sensor and Throttle Position Sensor, but the symptoms don't fit either exactly. It happens only while driving, not while idling. The engine will suddenly lose RPM as if it want to die for a couple seconds then will go back up to normal, then down and up repeatedly for a couple minutes then will clear up and run fine for a while. It also seems to "pop" lightly like it wants to back fire but can't. Would you consider this a problem with the MAS or TPS or could it be something else? Thank you. P.S. I've tried changing fuel to a higher grade and used fuel injector cleaner.
Hello all. My car is cutting off while driving, check engine light on, hesitant to start after fueling. Could it be the MAF Sensor????? I did get a reading that said so.
I have a question. I drive a Lexus & went over a dip & now when I drive above 65 it smells like burn oil but has no leaks. Please help??? Thanks for the video by the way
My engine is revving up alot when i give it gas but its like bottlenecking itself it revvs up and then accelerates slowly until it hits 2k rpm then it jerks and hauls ass i think its my fuel pump or a bad injector but i can have my gas pedal all the way down and it will cap around 65mph i installed an aftermarket air filter but it was running fine after that...any suggestions on what it could be?
Dr.@k3 aka Doctor At K3 if u used the cotton filter with the oil on it like k&n and others, the oil could be coming off and caking on the maf sensor....this would fix it.
I had a factory original filter on my 2011 malibu with 59000 miles. I changed it yesterday but the air box was filled with sand.. it takes a long time for the car to accelerate... will cleaning the mass air flow sensor help??I vacuumed out the box n put a new air filter on...please advice thanks
The answer to your question is a big yes. This could be your entire acceleration problem. If you do not perform routine air filter maintenance on your engine then the mass air flow sensor will get dirty much faster. Once it gets dirty you WILL have acceleration problems.
Also, just be advised that if you do replace or clean your Mass Air Flow Sensor, it might take up to 50 miles of driving for your check engine light to reset and turn off.
I have a question? I got a 2005 with code p o 172 and p o 175 and replace the intake sensor but didn’t fix my proble still hesitate at 40 mph and the rpm goes higher.. what else do you think I should check
I used the spray to clean the MAF, things have become better for some time but after that the same problem started again (car little hesitates and shakes when starting).
A 2002 GMC Safari 4.3 liter motor runs good idles good sometimes it just don't want to idle but you can start it and hold the gas down a little bit and drive no problem at all and if you hold the gas pedal down around idle position you can actually it will actually start I don't again all by itself what is the problem with that and how do I fix it
most of those cleaners are a mixture of degreaser slash acetone and dry up pretty quick, I would keep going on it, may wipe with a small like eye glasses cloth or camera clothe, it will be ok. been working on GM cars all my life since 8 years old and I am 60, and starting to hate it, but never owned a new car.
I have a problem. Not sure if it falls under the jurisdiction of your video. If I stop at some stop sign, and then I have to enter the road and accelerate, there is a couple of seconds during which I get no acceleration. I can hear the engine roaring, but for couple of seconds, no acceleration. But then the rest of the drive is smooth. I have Nissan altima 2009. Does the solution in your video is exactly related to my problem.??
@@snesha420 Because you replaced it and it did not fix the problem, the next thing I would do is check to make sure that the electrical connection plug that attaches to the mass air flow sensor is receiving voltage. You would need a digital volt meter to perform this.
So with an ODB1 scanner i got 1 code from my car....throttle positioning sensor low voltage? Battery good, guess its the plug and wires to the sensor...?

That is the same kind of another problem I have with 1987 BMW 325I and its worse when its cold, so I always watch my fluids if tranny is just a little low I fill it or top it off but cars been in the family with three people owning it over a 20 yr, period and its a nice car, but they or at least this one must of been built on Monday. its always something, just stay on all your fluids and you will be ok. oh yeah watch out for the other drivers around you.
I like to thank you for your easy and understandable explanation. Just Saturday finished at work to go back home and the middle of the way which is about 1 mile, I was waiting for the green light at the stop light and when I gave gas to my Car it hesitate it so bad I thought the engine is going to go off but it didn't, I continue to go forward but I noticed it was running rough like never before, I was afraid that my Car would stall and proceed to get out of the way because I got a lot of cars behind me, I shut it off and waited for a few minutes then turned on and made it home safely today I needed to go to the store and you did the same thing, I like to thank you for posting this, tomorrow morning I will do a cleaning to that sensor but I don't have that spray, do they sell it in any auto parts store? Thanks, JD

My 87 runs really good but it has a constant intermittent hesitation as if it hiccups, has good pick up speed and with air on, sitting at a light sometimes it will stall, but starts right back up, I did all the cleaning stuff like you all say on here, and can't wait to see if it works, but this car has issues, one thing quits working and you fix it then another thing quits ?? I get a lot of compliments,(nice car) but again its black and new convertible black top, and new tires its a nice driving car till this problem, And I've been working on cars with my father since I was 8 yrs old and I am 60, just want to drive and enjoy life.
It sounds like it might be a dirty throttle body. ruclips.net/video/cOAYWVBfuek/видео.html

When I let off the gas , I have a jerking.... is that the same for that sensor???? 5.4 V8
My gas doesn’t feel smooth when pressing the pedal and I’ve taken it to multiple auto repair shops multiple times regarding this issue. They keep telling me nothings wrong. Does VW Jetta’s have this part?
How can we actually know that this is the actual problem? Coz my car also struggles to accelerate when i press the gas or brake. It had body shop service n they changed the intercooler too. After I realized the problem, i went back n told them n they said it might be intercooler coz thats the only thing they touched when they changed the bumper so they changed the intercooler the second time with factory product but i still face the issue. Any suggestion?
What causes the problem driving 10-20 miles per hour car jerking hard and stop and did it again?change all coil and spark plug and map sensor oem part.but when unplug the map sensor the car drive normal no jerking
Do Honda Accord 02 have mass flow air sensor to Or something different ?
Did this but had to get a special short screwdriver and someone to pull the plug out. Thank you it worked got the warning lights off but then went on again. I guess I'll have to wait 50 miles and hope there is no other issue.
How'd it go?
your the best, worked great, made a huge difference, buy this man a beer, or a soda maybe a glass of ice water. what ever he wants. Thanks

Goodmorning,
My engine hesitate anD i noticed water dipping from my exhaust, what would be the possible cause of this. Thank you sir
Please help.
motor mount?
I have a 2013 honda cr-v it hesitates about the third crank it starts then my check engine light is on and other lights I just put a alternated on today doing what's in your video should that fix the problem or should I look into the full pump it doesn't bog down or skip going up a hill or nothing but when I run the car a bit I shut it off then when I get back in it it starts right up and the check engine light is off so could the mass air flow be the problem?
Hello, I have a problem with my 2003 Mercury sable, first of all it does a small series of things that I can’t for the life of me figure out the problem,
After my car warms up a little and you happen to be at a stop light or at a hill and as soon as you press the gas peddle it jerks before it goes, like kinda a delay, here lately I noticed when I’m going down the highway with cruise control set at 65 going on level road it’ll ever so slightly slow down and speed up (like go to 63 and back to 65), and sometimes when you stop and put it in park it’ll start revving upwards of 2000-2500 rpms and stay there.
Im having power loss and lurching and hesitation when i accelerate and its getting very frustrating.
my ford focus 2004 drive for a while and then hesitate and shut off. i could start back after a couple of minutes. would this cause .
Is that piece the same as a camshaft on a nissan altima 2005
I want to see how it works after you cleaned and installed.
Hi I got kia Rio 1.3 2001 model they don't have mass airflow sensor. I change idle control valve but still hestitat special when engine is hot.when u shift to first gear u can't leaf the car move it own.I must always press accelerates
What type vehicle is that
would you get black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe if you step on accelerator peddle when its not working right
I've never heard of a dirty of faulty MAF causing black smoke. It sounds to me like the piston rings in the engine are worn.
I will have to try this since my 1992 Honda accord has been getting worse with stalling when I stop and severe surging on acceleration.
It sounds like you also need to perform this. ruclips.net/video/cOAYWVBfuek/видео.html
Had the same problem but it was the air tube it had a huge crack and was sucking in air , part was 100$ so i just used black duct tape instead
Our 1989 Honda Civic with 1.5 engine does not have a MAFS, But throttle does quickly ebb and flow until the car is fully warmed-up. Any other culprit(s) to look for?
It has a MAP sensor and a IAT sensor.
Aldo check & clean the *ntake Air Control (IAC) Valve and throttle body.
Is this available on diesel engines?
2001 mercedes C180 just got fixed thanks to your video. I did use brake cleaner because that is all i had at home. but it works better now. I did not clean it thoroughly though so I still have occasional sputtering. planning to just replace the MAF. I was worried that the brake cleaner would damage the MAF but it did not
I'm sure once you replace it your performance will improve dramatically.
proclaimliberty2000 didn't the can say not to use it on Toyota's? I know because I thought of using this once on my 06 v8 Tundra but I got discouraged as soon as I read "DO NOT USE ON LEXUS OR TOYOTA ENGINE'S" I use to work at AutoZone n a mechanic gave me advice n said to just replace it with an oem one from Toyota so how's it holding up for ya?
My can doesn't say that and there have been no problems.
I bought a new one; i also replaced the fuel pump and it's running lovely now
proclaimliberty2000 what car is this you are working on ?????
Would any quick drying cleaning product work???
Neftali Garcia Not if it leaves residue on the wires. That’s why I only use mass air flow sensor cleaner.
DO THEY SELL A BIGGER CAN i may need more than ten gallons!
i have a 2007 chevy aveo that sputters upon acceleration or up hill at about 2500 rpms what causes this
Clean mass air flow sensor. But also check air filter.
I did all that too, and new air filter but its killing me so bad I want to sell it.
Matthew Simonds if it's not idling right also check to make sure no coolant is running down into the spark plug holes 😒
this is why new technology fails I like classics better
true
@PGm issa maybe but the issues were much cheaper and easier to fix
Like my instructor said carburetors are for old people who wont die lol but they still easier to maintain
hi friend, you said that it would take 50 miles of driving for the check engine light to turn off.

Brenna Paulson It’s very possible that replacing the ignition coil will fix it.
If your check engine light is not on, then cleaning the MAF would be a good start.
ok thank you.
wouldn't electronics cleaner be the same?
Damage your part to wrong kind of chemical
Hello all. My car is cutting off while driving, check engine light on, hesitant to start after fueling. Could it be the MAF Sensor????? I did get a reading that said so.
Country Lifestyle bro did you solved itV
Had a issue with my Neon where it wouldn't accelerate past 2300 rpms. I fixed it with a new cam shaft position sensor.
I have a question. I drive a Lexus & went over a dip & now when I drive above 65 it smells like burn oil but has no leaks. Please help??? Thanks for the video by the way
Brandin Sanchez Are your drive belts good and tight?
i have a Volvo that bumps when i accelerate it will this be useful
Probably yes, also check the Spark plugs if its running on gasoline.
I got p0171, amd p0174 on a malibu maxx 05. I have replace the maf sensor no changes. Any ideas.
Dr.@k3 aka Doctor At K3 if u used the cotton filter with the oil on it like k&n and others, the oil could be coming off and caking on the maf sensor....this would fix it.
also what vehicle is this for? I didn't see where mine was..
Great Video Paul! Very Detailed! Thanks
Once it gets dirty you WILL have acceleration problems.
proclaimliberty2000 thanks ill clean it out and hopefully save myself $$$$ . ill confirm back in a week
Also, just be advised that if you do replace or clean your Mass Air Flow Sensor, it might take up to 50 miles of driving for your check engine light to reset and turn off.
proclaimliberty2000 currently my light is not on. so hopefully it stays off
I have a 2003 Acura MDX would that work for me
I am hoping this works on my Altima! Thanks for the info
Did it work cuz I got the same thing on my fuckin Altima
I have a question? I got a 2005 with code p o 172 and p o 175 and replace the intake sensor but didn’t fix my proble still hesitate at 40 mph and the rpm goes higher.. what else do you think I should check
Jerry Velasquez did you replace the mass air flow sensor with a genuine OEM?
I used the spray to clean the MAF, things have become better for some time but after that the same problem started again (car little hesitates and shakes when starting).
I would of loved seeing the issue before and after
A 2002 GMC Safari 4.3 liter motor runs good idles good sometimes it just don't want to idle but you can start it and hold the gas down a little bit and drive no problem at all and if you hold the gas pedal down around idle position you can actually it will actually start I don't again all by itself what is the problem with that and how do I fix it
You may need to clean your throttle body ruclips.net/video/cOAYWVBfuek/видео.html
Do you have to undo the battery terminal first before you do this ?
Nop
As long as the starter switch is off or remove the key it should be ok.
I accidentally sprayed some carb cleaner on the sensor what should I do next?
most of those cleaners are a mixture of degreaser slash acetone and dry up pretty quick, I would keep going on it, may wipe with a small like eye glasses cloth or camera clothe, it will be ok. been working on GM cars all my life since 8 years old and I am 60, and starting to hate it, but never owned a new car.
get a new one, carb/throttle body cleaner is too strong for electrical 👍
Sell it to the junk yard👍
I was going to use carb spray. maybe it screw up the plastic. Just give it a visual first. I guess.
@@maxlove4821 That would increase the MASS AIR FLOW of his ass! 😂
Nabeel Ahmed sounds more like transmission
I just tightened the jubilee clips either side of it. They were loose. Sorted not happened since.
2012 nissan maxima.. revving when idle and hesitating when accelerating. Mas air flow sensor changed but no changes. Any ideas?!
Shazeika Khan do you have a check engine light on the dashboard of your vehicle?
@@proclaimliberty2000 yes.. it says mas air flow sensor. 😣
@@snesha420 Because you replaced it and it did not fix the problem, the next thing I would do is check to make sure that the electrical connection plug that attaches to the mass air flow sensor is receiving voltage. You would need a digital volt meter to perform this.
What if its not the mass air flow sensor,or spark plugs,or alternator, or throttle positioning sensor?
So with an ODB1 scanner i got 1 code from my car....throttle positioning sensor low voltage? Battery good, guess its the plug and wires to the sensor...?
2018 Ford eco sport perking during acceleration after 60/70mph and already had the engine replaced because of the oil pump and engine failure.
Ok i have a question for u. scotty Kilmer my name is Sammy and i have a 01 dodge Dakota slt 5.9 360 v8 it is smoking from the heads and leaking oil what does that mean?
Matthew Scruggs most likely valve cover gaskets
cleaned maf sensor still hesitates when i punch it only when it has warmed up ,running cold no problem , what do u think it could b ?
I would replace the maf sensor.
Got a used 2009 Nissan quest and it sounds and feels like it takes a bit longer to shift when accelerating. I have no experience when it comes to working on cars.... so could this work for my problem? Pls let me know asap. Thank you!
Yes, replacing the MAF sensor could fix your problem but it might just need to be cleaned. ruclips.net/video/YnckaCCJEEk/видео.html
proclaimliberty2000 okay thank u!
Would this work for code p0420?
do you think diconneting the battery is better ?
It's not neccessary.
Thank you so so much. Solved the problem immediately.

Thanks, JD
Oh man. It just happened to me couple days ago when i came to red lights. I stayed there for 20 min n cars were coming n waiting behind me while hazardous lights were on, then move on next line. I was talking to AAA, but after waiting for 20 min there, i turned it on n i drove. I didn’t know what happened but i also have the same problem that my car struggles to accelerate, maybe this caused that problem as well. Tomorrow will try this

Did that it helped for 100 miles then back to the same trouble as before. For $ 35 replace the sensor. Should take care of the problum if not the throttle body needs to be cleaned or replaced.
