    Regarding electonically limiting speed, I believe that Volvo, Renault and Dacia have been limiting their cars to 112mph for the past few years.
    I also heard of plans for cars to dynamically adjust this limit to the align with speed limits, but can't find a reference to this now.
    Oddly, this sounds like more of a safety hazard than a safety feature..
    Example: Speed limit is 100kph
    You start to overtake a van which is travelling 85kph.
    During overtake, van accelerates to 95kph.
    You need to momentaily exceed 100kph in order to safely pass and to leave adequate space between you and the van you just passed as you move back into the left lane.
    Now imagine your car suddely applying a 100kph limit in the midst of the overtaking manouver. Sounds like a very dangerous situation for both vehicles, not to mention oncoming traffic! 😮

      I've heard I you put your foot down it will override the speed limiter. It does come in initially but is easily overridden. Cars with cruise control often have the speed limiter option that does get overridden if you floor it.

    • @ianhill4585
      @ianhill4585 2 месяца назад

      Speed limiters on trucks only work on level ground, uphill the limiter is not engaged as you're fighting the incline,and can't reach the limiters setting , and down hill the overrun pushes the truck past the limiter, (I myself have done 75 mph in a 56 mph limited truck). That's why most trucks are limited to 56 mph, but the speed limit in the highway code is 60 mph, a laughable 4 mph overrun allowance.

If the intent is to add a "wear tax" onto new/replacement components, why should I have to pay for the previous owners heavy right foot or "Sweeney" style driving techniques?

    Taking this all in, but I’m not sure about being taxed on your EV battery not having much capacity left as you’re having to charge it more. Capacity is less, so therefore it will be fully charged quicker…. Wouldn’t take the same amount of power to charge a half capacity battery as a full capacity battery. Be like saying it takes same amount of power to charge a 50,000mah battery as a 100,000mah version.

      Davy, theres a lot of poor quaility brains trying to think nowadays & making the rules...Take electric cars not been required to use the same charging plug...
      Lets have rules requiring the removal time for a battery service @ circa 1/2 hr, rear bumper off slide out the back!!!...
      Obligatory battery service parts, to replace dead cells...

    EVs and Hybrids do not make more brake dust. They make much less, because of the brake regen. The brake pads are replaced around 200.000 km compared to 60.000 for IC. This does not mean that I agree with the EV enforcement.

    One of the big attractions of EVs at present share lower running costs - free road tax & cheaper electricity at night. As I’ve said to EV owners, enjoy it while it lasts because it’s temporary.
    Once there’s a critical mass of EVs they’ll find new ways to tax them too.
    If there’s no petrol or diesel to double tax (yes there’s a double tax) then they’ll have to raise the revenue elsewhere. My personal view is that it’ll be road pricing. All these new cars are bristling with technology & are permanently connected to the internet. It won’t be hard to collect the revenue then.

  • @bills6093
    @bills6093 10 дней назад

    Well, they'd be giving up the revenue from speeding tickets and fees if your car was speed and location controlled remotely.

    Vehicle to vehicle, vehicle to network and vehicle to everything is what is coming. Your vehicles will be sending out live data of your speed position and vehicle health. All new cars at the moment must have road sign recognition, the plan is it have tge cars recognise signs to adjust vehicle speed, ar first you may be able to overide the speed limit but that will change and you will no longer be able to. The vehicle to vehicle network will allow cars to talk to each other so your car will automatically slow for other vehicles

    Of course it’s the ‘war on the motorist’ coupled with pay per mile the cameras are all set up for this coupled with electric prices for battery charging will skyrocket the cost of a full tank of fuel will be equal to a full charge, and still nowhere near the range of a normal vehicle, plus don’t forget when the next ‘lockdown’ happens they can prevent you from driving on account of the tech in these ‘electric vehicles aka battery powered vehicles, in rush hours £6 per mile in cities £1 on motorways, I’m afraid to say also euro 6 vehicles will be taxed like normal gasoline vehicles £200 surcharge on parking permits etc!
