Holy Moses, he's just a baby (with the soul of a wise man). What a gifted man. He's maintained his humanity, throughout my lifetime, listening to Bob Seger. I'm grateful to be alive, during the time of the great "Bob Seger" (and the Silver Bullet Band). 🇨🇦🎶🎸✍🏻❤️✨🌎💫
Pure Rock Gold . That this Footage of Bob even exists is a miracle of sorts . I actually had the great honor of meeting Bob and the rest of the System on their 70 Tour . Great Guys and awesome memories . I just wish this video was an 1 1/2 Hrs long .
I'm 72 yrs old, remember when this song came out, thought it was great. Never thought he would have such a great career. Thanks Bob for all the great songs. ✌️
Takes me back to my high school in the very early 70s. They actually played in my high school gym (Harper Woods, MI-Notre Dame). Seeing those drums waiting for that band on our stage was indescribable. Such a great memory!!
For those of us honored enough to have seen Seger plenty of times back in Michigan, these sounds are still rolling around in our heads. Kinda like the old stadium dogs from Briggs Stadium
Various Livonia junior high and high schools, Schoolcraft College, Livonia ice rink with Nugent for $1.35, Chances Are in AA, and the last time at Bowen Field House in the Spring of '75 opening up for Bachman Turner Overdrive, lol. Great memories.
This really is amazing & it's great that it's an actual real live performance. No lip sync silliness. You knew a man with that amount of passion... & that voice would go far!
Bob would never have lip synched or used autotune. He was genuine. I guess it's difficult for some generations to listen to bands that played their own instruments with nothing other than a microphone. No one in these times can match this kind of talent.
Same year, same members that played my high school in South Windsor, Ontario, Canada... Vincent Massey High School, May 8, 1970. I remember those drums, I remember that night close to 54 years ago... amazing!
As a born and bred Michigander this to me is as GOOD AS IT GETS for us Seger fans! By far my favorite artist of all times, GREAT, GREAT LIVE, especially at Cobo Hall, and "PINE KNOB!" Thanks for posting this RAW High Quality footage.
Honestly, the System was so ahead of it's time. Just look at Pep's INSANE kit (considering it's only 1970, only really Keith Moon and John Bonham were doing a similar thing) and the way he's smashing the shit out of those drums. Bob's guitar tone is as fuzzy and nasty as it ever probably was. I love the Silver Bullet Band a lot and a lot of what came after this era, but Mongrel should be held up in the same regard as his other 70's masterpieces. Definitely Seger's heaviest and rawest period
My BFF worked at Former Farmers Jack's, head manager. She would have to keep the fans away, just doing his own grocery shopping. I use to live right around the corner from him. Nicest man. Detroit Yeah. 🚙
was very lucky to be in michigan in the 60s and early 70s. Saw seger and the last herd and bob seger system in concert at least 20 times. never exactly the same set but always great music. was so lucky to have lived this life...
Wow. Lincoln Park. I was raised in southwest Detroit. Was visiting in Lincoln Park in 67...first time I heard East Side Story. Definitely a local musician that you just knew was going to break out soon.
Tend to think, Bob Has "Earned His grits", over many decades,& can Lay it on to Any real American., One way or Another.. Just Sayin'. May Bob Seger's works of Art Live into Infamy
Bob's earliest works were the most raw and best. We use to drive from Kent State 5 hrs to detroit just to be at his venue gigs 1969-71. Then he started to get gigs arnd Cleveland. J.Geils had the same raw bluesy style.
A lot of people don’t realize that Seger was doing music long before Night Moves. As of 2021, he has been making music for about 60 years. That’s long enough that he would make it into the top 50 longest music careers.
He said himself he was a "Ten year, overnight success." I grew up in Detroit in the 60s-70s. Used to travel and would tell people about this guy Bob Seger. They never heard of him before Beautiful Loser and Live Bullet
This right here seeing live at 14 years old is what keeps me saying I love the Bob Seger System more than the Silver Bullet Band... Guess you had to be there.
I saw Bob several times from '69 through 72...( and later a couple of times)...THIS is how I like to remember him...not the later schmaltzy stuff. Power!!!
The Bob Seger System and also the Last Heard had some of the most blazing rock around. More folks need to get familiar. Thank you for the upload. It’s appreciated! 💜
saw him several times pre-70's, while he would play high schools and college shows.....was in Cobo Arena during one of the "Live Bullet" recording shows
Each time I hear this I learn more. If I were in a band I would refuse to continue unless the entire band could master the Lucifer jam in practice. Busy drummer is outrageous, love his unique setup.
This is so Amazing I can not even say. Takes me back to Atlanta Jan 1970 (MC5) and Atlanta Pop July 5, 1970! Our music was in fact better! Thank you MichiganRocksandRoll
The moment the camera zeroes in on Bob's face at the beginning of the song is simply breathtaking. His rhythmic head movements and the way he immerses himself in the music are utterly captivating. And when he delivers those lyrics about the devil? Wow, it's just electrifying!
I just discovered Mongrel after years of being a Bob Seger fan. I heard Lucifer via a Little Stevens Nuggets radio show many years ago, but I had no idea how raw, and incredible this early stuff is.
Wow I'm nearly 67 now. I saw Seger many times through the 70's. That man can rock the house down! This is a really great clip of him before his big fame. Always the rocker, and deserving of his fame and fortune through those early years of touring and not cow towing to the music industry, they did it their way. That guy beating those drums...wow! I still think Ramblin' Gamblin' Man is Seger's best song ever! I was fortunate enough to have a birthday gift given to me on my 60th in 2017 by my younger brother. It was tickets to see Bob during his last tour. We had great seats and it was fantastic! Great memories.
Never wrote a song that wasn't good. And surrounded himself with great musicians. Bob is the man. Detroit was the city that gave us so much and has lasted the test of time.
Ramblin'man what I came here for. This is one cool song. I'm a bass player and the other morning on the radio I heard this song so I just had to find it on YT. Another classic from the 70's. Should have known. Other than gospel music there's nothing today worth listening to.
This is the exact line-up as they appeared in a memorable show at the fairgrounds in Fargo, ND in '70. I was blown away at 16 yrs. old by how good they were.
6:50 So F'n Good... Enjoy ! 1st time I've heard Bob go all out from the start on Ramblin Gamblin Man... even throwing in some wild screaming fills 😎🎸( Awesome ) 1970 Headlines : The next real Rock-n-Roll superstar ☆
Amazing to watch this-I was a Senior in high school when Mongrel came out-One of my Coffee Table Favorites for years-Pep Perrine was the Bozzio of the late 60's-Loved his Drum Kit-Saw the System twice at our local high schools-Thanks for the memories Brother 🎸
Proof! Bob Seger was once a psychedelic "guitar god" . I've been trying to tell the late comers for years. Saw them in Wheaton, Maryland during this time. Loudest band ever! The great and legendary Pep Perrine on his giant homemade drum kit. It's a shame people don't do this kind of thing anymore. There was a band or street dance on every block. We were in the presence of greatness and didn't know it.
Yeah,I did'nt latch on to The Bob Seger System ,until I was 19yrs.old .In 1988.None of my friends never heard of them.At this time we where doing alot of Ac*d & shr*oms.I would always play ,I believe is the first album by B.S.System.This album absolutly blew thiere minds.Songs like 2+2=,Lucy Blue,Black eyed girl, ivory .The whole album is a mind blower.I reccamend this album for any trip.It moves it along very well..
This could be my favorite old video of Bob Seger ever. Video and sound quality are both excellent and the performance really captures Bob and the band in the raw. Pep Perrin's drum set was always a show stopper too!
It's amazing to me that my sister, who is 52, wasn't even born yet when this performance was filmed. I was maybe 1 yr old. I've never seen Bob Seger so young.
Wow! Unbelievable! Bob Seger as I remember him! Awesome! Absolutely amazing! I shared this with my Detroit friends in my age group and they're all totally blown away! Thank you so much for this. Detroit rocks!
I have never heard the song Lucifer or Song for Rufus before, but I have heard Ramblin' Gamblin' Man - Awesome - I just shared this on my Facebook page and on Bob Seger Fans page
Above all... the performers/creators and their song were and still are really rocksolid! So they are at least an essential inspirationt for what the nowadays world knows as "metal" or "hardrock" or whatevver you like to call it. To me, it's nothin' less than good times rocck 'n' roll. Everlasting thanx for this gift!
One of my most prized possessions is a cassette tape of the Bob Seger System live at Beginnings in Schaumburg, IL.back in '78! Same rough edged band, grinding it's way through Bob's industrial rock. I lost interested as his sound became more refined. A great songwriter and force in rock. The real deal!
I swear Dr. Bob Seger (honorary Doctorate from Wayne State University in 1989) has the same great voice in 1966, 1978, 1989, 2005 and today! Great singer, songwriter, musician and all around great guy. I just imagine him at two years old singing "you can call me Lucifer if you think you should" in that classic Seger voice. He is Michigan! You would see him around the Detroit area, at a restaurant or at a Piston's game. He was/is always kind and gracious. Met him twice - in 1989 at Wayne State and again in 1991 at a Pistons game. Back in '93 I worked with a woman who was about 20 years older. She heard me listening to Seger one afternoon. The next day she brought in a scrapbook containing pictures of her and Bob Seger, Mitch Ryder, Ted Nugent and other Detroit area musicians from '66-68. Many of the pics were from her parent's basement in Royal Oak, MI. Guess she was kind of a groupie. Incredible pictures!
Ramblin Gamblin Man was the song that made me know he was on his way to greater things. Thanks Bob for your music. Wonder if there are any of Chuck's Children still out there.
Vintage, passionate Gold Seger! Back when talent and playing music just bcz you loved it actually meant something to those performing and those listening.
OH MY LORD THANK YOU FROM THE PIT OF MY GUTS!! Bob at his ultimate BEST. :-) LIFE IS SHORT AND I AINT LYIN! first time i EVER got that line. bwahahaha THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Pep and that god damn homemade kit. THIS IS FUCKING PRICELESS! THANK YOU THANK YOU. lol So LOVE this.
This is the most AMAZING thing I have ever seen in my life. This is some serious Seger holy grail type stuff! EXCELLENT!
Agreed.
Yes!
He's on fire here!
Fing Amazing!

First time seeing this! My dad and I seen him and his band in 2019! Great experience! So much energy!

Bob Seger Detroit Grit Legendary 🇺🇸🏁. Take care! Adios
saw him. Not "seen him". I know you were better taught. Write like an adult.
My Beginnings with Bob as his Drum Roadie ....Went on to Be his sound man and tour manager .....Days Gone By ......
Dude really? How freakin cool!
Tell me more about these drums, I mean, they seem kinda revolutionary for the time.
One of the all-time greats!!! when the music of Detroit and Michigan in general was ruling the airwaves with MOTOWN and local Rock n Roll.
My mind is blown. I can’t believe this exists in such high quality.
Yeh, wish there was more like this
Holy Moses, he's just a baby (with the soul of a wise man). What a gifted man. He's maintained his humanity, throughout my lifetime, listening to Bob Seger. I'm grateful to be alive, during the time of the great "Bob Seger" (and the Silver Bullet Band).

That kid Seger has a set of pipes on him, eh?
I'm 72 yrs old, remember when this song came out, thought it was great. Never thought he would have such a great career. Thanks Bob for all the great songs. ✌️

Envious...across the creek...still MOTOWN..
I used to go see Bob Segar Ted Nugent @ Notre Dame High School in FB Harper Woods Michigan.
Hi Jeff...another Harper Woods alumni here!
