Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band are the greatest group I have ever heard. I went to their concert in 2019 and they sounded as good as they did when they first started. I danced and sang and had a great time. I am 69 years old and that was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. It was excellent! The band rocked it. I was very sorry to hear the sax player passed away. We are losing a lot of our old rockers. They are in their 60’s and 70’s now. No one will ever take their place. ❤️🌹❤️
Yes, I saw Bob and the SBB, a couple of times, over the years. Kickass shows! Amongst the best live shows I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a lot of concerts in my time. 'Still the same'! 😎👍
I can't imagine how I missed it, when it was new. I feel almost guilty, like I let him and myself down, by not hearing it until decades later, in earnest, with my full attention.
He talks about "I think if I had a child, I'd wanna be there for the formative years"... and then he went and DID IT. Stopped touring for 10 years! Pure class. Great father.
I live 1 mile from Bob and I have always appreciated that he gave up touring for over 10 years when he finally had children in Cole and Samantha and devoted his life in watching them grow up. Enjoy your retirement Bob we will miss your shows but its time to relax again and enjoy your family as your children now know what you do for work.
I have loved this man's music since I was a 15 yr old Freshman in high school. And wow, what a great laugh he's got! 😊 Bob Seger is so very underrated, and I just cannot fathom how. Who couldn't love a guy like him?????
I think the guys that don't like Seger are jealous of him, like they were of Elvis. I've met 2 guys who didn’t like Seger. One said he can't sing. 😂 That guy played drums, then I heard him sing, he sucked. 😂
Do you feel the same way about Elon Musk and did you say that about Charlton Heston? Probably not because they fit your narrative. It’s kind of sad how people have become. If I don’t think like you you’re bad. That is messed up.
I was sitting in the Nashville airport one day in the mid 80's. Across the the seat from me sat down this man who looked damn familiar. I finally figured it out. THAT'S BOB SEGER. Finally got up and said; Mr SEGER,and he said, I will never forget it,he said my name is Bob. I was floored. We went with small talk talk, but for some reason we just had a connection. Bob said, hey let's have a beer. Imagine a good old country boy from down off Monteagle Mt in Grundy county. The weather was bad and they had a ground stop on us. We sat and drank beer. Now I'm gonna say. The most down to earth,a man who loves his family. Bob, thanks for giving a good old country boy his 15 min of fame. You're not a beautiful loser. You're an incredible loser. I will send you some moonshine. Good stuff
"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." One of the best lyrics ever. So simple, but hits home. The sentiment normal working people feel often, the loss of innocence to the reality of the grind.
Against the wind applies to so many situations in life including the literal thought of Against The Wind. For instance, may the wind always be at your back only works in your favor if you're bald or have very short hair! If you doubt me, try eating an ice cream cone as you walk down the street with rock n roll length hair!
"the loss of innocence to the reality of the grind." What a perfect representation not only of how most people interpret the lyrics, but also an equally perfect encapsulation of their intent. Amen!
If your still listening to the man, as I still am forty five plus years later, find his early stuff. I missed out on way to much. Oo many great songs of his, great songs, I have never heard on the radio. Their loss, was my loss. Shame on them.
This was a great interview. I'm glad I ran across it. I love Bob Seeger. His music has meant so much to me for so long. The songs , the voice; there's only one Bob Seeger. I feel blessed to have been in his era of Rock and Roll. God bless him !
This guy and his musicians deserve every Rock award there is... Some of my best days were at their concerts. Bob speaking of the "Wall of Sound" made me want to go back and listen to all his songs, to see which had the most of it.
I have to agree. Although I've never met him in person, he seems like a real good down-to-earth person, willing to speak to anyone one-on-one, which is unusual for a star. Believe me I know from growing up at Tahoe and meeting literally hundreds of stars, be it musical or movie stars. I always made sure that I didn't advertise the fact that I had met that a certain person, and I respected their privacy when I met them individually. I would always basically tell them the same thing, that was I respect the fact that you would prefer to be anonymous and just enjoy the beauty of my home, because Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful places in the world and I'm lucky to live here, so I won't announce it out loud that I know who you are, I just want to say how much I enjoy meeting you, then I just would walk away.
An artist who was one of my first hero's. Just loved his music from the first time I ever heard it. Just about every song he recorded I fell in love with. What an absolute titan
🖤🥀Excellent interview with Bob Seger he's so creative and and a powerful artist. I love all of his song's I've got many albums from the 70s on up. He's a amazing person. Thanks for posting this video it's priceless and unbelievable🥀🖤✌☝️
My all time favorite artist. I *finally* got to see him live in 2011 (I truly thought it would never happen!) Totally worth the wait. I lost my h.s. best friend a couple of years ago. She used to lend me her ID so I could dance the night away at my very first/fav bar. Our anthem was Old Time Rock 'n Roll (live version). I can still see my gypsy soul friend rocking out to it on that dance floor. There's not a person in my life, Bob doesn't know. He's always been along for the ride.
Back in the day, I wasn't a Seger fan. But one of my best friends was a diehard fan, so definitely heard it back then. Now in my 60's, just recently I've taking up listening and enjoying Seger songs like never before. Stumbled across this interview and glad I watched it. Makes one think about the days of youth, when the world was quite different. "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then."
For me, "Hollywood Nights" is my favorite drive mixtape when your out on the highway taking a long road trip. And it's interviews like this that make RUclips great. It's fantastic to be able to find these gems of great interviews with a legend like Bob Seger. We also get to see the diversity of the interview skills of Bob Costas.
Nine Tonight was mine. He starts off rockin' it, and in the end it builds up, and builds, and in the end, " Good night everybody. " It just leaves you wanting more. Maybe that is why my cassette player ate my tape in a week's time. I had just started driving a truck over the road, Quincy, Il. to Kansas City, Mo., then to Detroit and back. I bought that tape three times in one year.
There are sooo many great songs in Bob's musical catalog. One of Seger's song really reflected my life at one time, called "Down on Main Street". Reminded me of Dearborn Avenue, which was the main street through my Delray neighborhood in SW Detroit. Bob Segers music will always bring back someone's memories and describes somebody's childhood neighborhood. Very down to earth guy.
My first Bob Seger concert was after the release of Night Moves. Golden Earring was the opening band. I think my ticket cost me eight fifty. When they played Main Street Alto Reed played his sax from a cat walk with the spot light focused on him. I remember people lighting up joints and passing them down the aisles. I have seen Bob several times since then but the first concert was the best.
I love Turn the Page. The way Bob belts out those lyrics, especially in the climax at the end just rocks my world like nothing else. ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮ PEACE TO BOB ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮
What a Great interview that I have not seen before. Ty for sharing this about such a Great song writer , singer & all around decent person & Living Legend Bob Seger..from a fan since the late 1960's ty Mr. Seger ❤
One of the GREATEST storytellers of all time.......if there was one concert I could attend, it would be Bob Seger......he always put’s me “in the mood”!
there is nothing this guy can't make into an absolutely riveting story, not only with his words but with his voice. EVEN HIS SPEAKING VOICE, EVEN HIS LAUGH.
I saw Bob Seger down in Florida over 20 years ago and he did three encores because he cared so much about how the people felt and that they wanted more what a great guy and what an incredible concert.
There was a story in the news a few years ago, where a woman who had been in a coma for =7 years = suddenly woke up, and right away said she wanted to go to a Bob Seger concert...for real ! Bob heard about it and arranged it all for her, giving her the VIP treatment. How great is that !
He is an old soul and a big heart. 🤗 My favorite song is "you'll accompany me" but one song he does not get praised enough for us "Come to poppa" and my 2nd favorite "against the wind " It's soulful and really groovy type song, the beat makes you wanna jump up and get your body moving.
saw Bob Seger at hara Arena in 197?? he was the feature band i believe he even had to reschedule the concert cause had an illness but 9 of us went in a Gremlin luckily someone gave us a ride for a ticket Night Moves was big that summer and had great airplay the 70s were so cool and great - i wonder where everyone is at ?
. I SO wish that instead of asking Seger if "Night Moves" is his best song (7:56), Costas had instead simply asked him, "What is your best song?".....and also (at some point) asked him which of his albums is his favorite (and/or his "best"). Overall though, a pretty great interview.....thank you VERY much for not only posting this, but doing all the editing you mention above, in order for us to be able to see/hear all this all in one piece.......MUCH appreciated !! .
One of my first memories of music (or anything really) is hearing Mainstreet. I guess I was around 2 years old. My parents had the album, and it was my favorite song. Still love it!
I started listening to him when I was in college and he was telling the story of growing older. Well it's been 40 years "and I am older now and still running against the wind!"😊😊😊
He sounds just like my uncles and cousins did when I was growing up. Haven't been able to visit Michigan in 2 years now due to the pandemic so watching this made me really realize how I miss the Michigan accent.
Didn't need any music here, no worries.. what a fantastic interview. I saw Seger in concert in New York city way back when he was sporting all that long beautiful hair. What a fantastic concert it was! His music always resonated with me and I am so happy that I have just rediscovered him. His music is timeless. Had a chuckle when he mentioned Bette Midler asking for a Bob Seger ballad. lol Guess she also had good taste.
I was 13 when the guy down the holler was throwing a party. I keep hearing the words night moves. So I go to my neighbors and ask the daughter about the song she had the album. I fell in love with his music.
One of the biggest musical influences in my taste in music. It speaks to my soul. As I aged , I understand some of his lyrics-like the end of night moves. Ain’t it funny how the night moves, when you just don’t seem to have as much to lose…strange how the night moves. With Autumn closes it in…….speaks to me about aging and the end of life.
❤❤❤❤ .. was led here from the podcast.. I have been a fan of Bob Seger since 1966 at the tender age of 10 ; I'm a born and raised Detroiter. First time I saw him was at the Howell Armory right before the Beautiful Loser album came out. Then both nights at Cobo Hall that was recorded and became the Live Bullet album which I have the anniversary edition ( got it last year) .. Saw him at the Pontiac Siverdome and Pine Knob . I'm 66 years old now , Rock and roll never forgets
He didn’t mention the song we all covered in the early days of The Bob Seger System. Ramblin Gamblin Man, was the earliest Segar song that came to mind and for some reason he didn’t pay homage to those days.
Absolutely agree with you! August 30 of 1975 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary and saw Bob Seger opening for Bachman Turner Overdrive. His live performance of RGM blew me away that evening, at 14 years old, and has forever maintained a position in my favorite 3 Seger songs. Ps after Seger and BTO, tinnitus for 3 days and well worth it, cheers!
Excellent! Thanks for posting this. I love Bob Seger's music and saw him in concert back ~1987 but really didn't know much about the man behind the music.
An excellent interview with two amazing men. Costas is superb as a host, doesn't speak over Seger at any time. Great to get a personal view of Bob Seger and his verisimilitude and ability to pull-out memories with grace is good to see. He's a great artist and has created so many songs that have changed the world, it's heart-warming to view his humility and great story-telling skills. Thanks for posting this terrific interview. It builds on my admiration for Bob Seger as a maestro!
Bob Seger needs to pen an autobiography. I know he released a book, but it was more of a picture/memory book. I want to know about the details about how "Main Street" was recorded. I want to know more about his experiences of being in southern California in the late 70's. I want to know about how "Against the Wind" was recorded, and how he reacted when so many rock critics who adored his work felt it was a sell out album. He is one of the few, legendary rockers that we know almost nothing about. I don't have a need to hear about the details of his personal life and his family, but I want to read about his recollections and memories about how his records were done. I was listening to "Stranger In Town" last night, and I realized that I know more about how "Duke" from Genesis was recorded, how "Brothers and Sisters" from the Allman Bros. Band was recorded, how "On The Border" from the Eagles was recorded and how "Dirt" from Alice In Chains was recorded than "Stranger In Town." "Stranger" is an absolute masterpiece. Come on Bob, put out that autobiography! John Mellencamp is another artist who really needs to publish an autobiography. I don't know anything about how "The Lonesome Jubilee" was recorded, or what motivated him to write "Hurt So Good."
You are so right. I have heard Johnny Bee Badanjek Tell stories about his time with Mitch Ryder and the Rockets and the stories are wild and need to be told. Watch this and you may agree ruclips.net/video/4ZkuWFIJAkQ/видео.html
In 1981, as a "tween", my stepmom got me a radio and I heard BETTY LOU'S GETTING OUT TONIGHT and I fell in love with Bob Seger and music in general. 🎶 It's funny once my grandson was going dressed as some little band member for Halloween & I said, "nobody knows who that is. Ya should go as Bob Seger". And he asked "Whose Bob Seger?" So I turned him on to KATMANDU and he's 18 now and a die-hard Bob Seger fan. My sister promised me that they're gonna play ROLL ME AWAY at my funeral. Thanks for the music, Bob! You were always the man 🎶🎵 💜
Bob Seger is beyond a legend. He is one of the greatest songwriters, singers and choreographers of music that has ever lived. He is a national treasure much like Elvis, Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Frank Sinatra, etc. When you listen to his songs, most people can feel and remember many moments in their own lives. Also, he is obviously a very grounded and humble man and this interview is proof that not all stars/celebrities are narcissistic, egomaniacal idiots. He seems rather thoughtful and intelligent. In his heydey, before he hit it real big, he had the greatest rock voice that there was. His version of Tim Hardins, "If I Were a Carpenter", on his highly underrated Smokin OP's album is incredible and demonstrates his full vocal range and capabilty. I listen to Seger a lot, it's hard to have a bad day when I listen to Seger.
My very first concert, August 1977, 14 years old(about to begin 9th grade), Pine Knob Music Theater, Clarkston, Michigan(so a “home town” show for Bob)……my introduction to live music. 🙏🎶😎
He has always been pretty down to earth. There are many stories about kind things he has done, as well as how well he treats his fans. Have never heard or read anything negative about him.
This is great!! I had never seen this interview before. Bob Seger is one of my favorite rock and roll artists. His songs speak to your heart and soul. Live he is truly one of the best and I saw him live from 1981 thru the 2010s. Just amazing shows!! I have heard from people who actually know Bob or someone close to him that he is a genuine and kind person. One of my favorite people on the whole planet!!!

he'd be an interesting guy to run into at the store lol. I live not far from battle creek and he's a big deal on the west side of the state
Great artist
@officialbobseger39your music has always made me feel upbeat, thanks!
A true pro. Every ounce of energy he tried to give away.
I love Seger and Stevie Ray Vaughan, 2 of my favorite singers.
I was jamming out to Seger in '78 and my Dad said I'll be glad when you outgrow that shit! I'm still jamming out to Seger in 2024!! ❤

It's so easy to forget how damn good Costas was as a host, and Seger has always been a treasure!
Costas is just great.
His interview with Paul McCartney from about this same time period is really good too.

I SO wish that instead of asking Seger if "Night Moves" is his best song (7:56), Costas had instead simply asked him, "What is your best song?".....and also (at some point) asked him which of his albums is his favorite (and/or his "best").
Overall though, a pretty great interview.....thank you VERY much for not only posting this, but doing all the editing you mention above, in order for us to be able to see/hear all this all in one piece.......MUCH appreciated !!
.
What a national treasure Bob Seger is. An amazingly talented songwriter and musician with an unforgettable voice. Just love the guy.👍👍
Terrific interview. Always loved the music, but really love the man Seger became. thanx
This was a fantastic interview. Probably the best I’ve ever seen. It was very personal and down to earth.
One of my first memories of music (or anything really) is hearing Mainstreet. I guess I was around 2 years old. My parents had the album, and it was my favorite song. Still love it!
Great interview...I wish there were more "behind the scenes" interviews like this!
I started listening to him when I was in college and he was telling the story of growing older. Well it's been 40 years "and I am older now and still running against the wind!"😊😊😊
It’s now 2024 & Bob is 80 & his music is still kicking! Songs of many of our lives!
É verdade eu não canso de escutar ❤
great singer and all-round class act. by all accounts, one of the nicest guys in the music biz
“Wish I didn’t know now, what I didn’t know then!” Powerful lyric !!
Bob Seger's the best rocker ever!
One of the coolest dudes in r+r history
Definitely one of them.
BS is a true gentleman.
Michigan accent 🥰 This guy is the real deal
. Legend
Super Michigander!
Lowper
As a Clevelander it sounds like home!
Bette covered one of Bob's songs in the film, The Rose. I believe it was Fire Down Below. Like Seger, she rocked it out! 😎👍
I saw him open for Kiss in Baltimore I think when I was in high-school around 75...to this day one of the best live shows I've ever seen
After seeing him at Pine Knob IN 77! MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME -
FAV TUNE (TURN THE PAGE!!!)
I'm only 1:45 in and he already seems like the coolest guy in rock and roll that I've ever seen interviewed. Wish I could chat with him for an hour!
Damn brah - mix in a few early episodes of Happy Days 😎
Me too!
Hiya Timothy from a different Timothy. 4-27-2022
More like a day, I would be tongue tied the first hour or two?
First time I’ve seen Bob Seger interviewed. What a nice, reflective, open man.
@officialbobseger39 😄
I was 13 when the guy down the holler was throwing a party. I keep hearing the words night moves. So I go to my neighbors and ask the daughter about the song she had the album. I fell in love with his music.
He is a great musician , thanks for all the great music and memories of our lives
Bob Seger has the sexiest voice in Rock n Roll.
There’s no one else even close to his gifts. He’s still amazing. 🥰🎶🥰
He does
Damn Straight
His voice is from the smoking👎👎👎👎👎. Which is a shame. It really aged him🙁🙁🙁…but still a gifted performer. I love his songs❤❤❤
It's an amazing million dollar voice...
Great interview! Both Bobs are smart, informed and thoughtful men.
I grew up in Detroit and had the pleasure of seeing Bob many times.
I was young when Seger was at his best and he is incredible. A great songwriter/ singer from my hometown.
A national treasure. Voice is unmatched
Fabulous laugh ! I grew up going to his concerts love him .
2024 and I still listen to Rock N Roll Everyday
"'Til It Shines" will always be my favorite Seger song.
You bet , mine too . This song is in a Steven Baldwin movie titled Crossing the Bridge , good movie .
That’s a really great one. For me it’s Fire Lake.
Mine is Ship of fools, off night moves album
I was in Kathmandu ( Nepal) when I heard Seegers Kathmandu! Total Rock and Roll!
❤❤❤❤ .. was led here from the podcast..
What podcast?????
@@MICHIGANROCKSANDROLL WCSX 94.7 here in Michigan.
Thanks for the memories Bob!!!!!!!
Yep ❤ Bob Seger, my kids already know which of his songs to play at my Funeral, or what ever they do for me🤗
Great interview with the 2 iconic Bob's. Rock and Roll Never Forgets.
Great interview. Love both Bobs! Stayed up too late a lot of work nights, but it was worth it.
Like A Rock - Bob Seger your music is with me always. Thank you ❤❤❤
@officialbobseger39 😄
I was a lucky kid. I grew up in Michigan and seen Seger back in 1973. We were all so proud.
Bob Seger is a great interviewee and Bob Costas is a great interviewer. I would love to hear Terry Gross talk to Bob.
Gotta love Bob Seger seen him in concert a few years back he still kicks ass
Best Seger ballad. Down on Main Street
@officialbobseger39 😄
Saw him in concert in Washington, D.C. about 1977, with friend from high school. It was at a venue called The Capital Centre!! Great show!
I don't read much, But, I would buy that book. And I also read every comment on this page. Which I don't usually do?
Matt Smith
I agree, I would very much enjoy reading autobiographies from Bob & John. 👍🎶🎸
In 1981, as a "tween", my stepmom got me a radio and I heard BETTY LOU'S GETTING OUT TONIGHT and I fell in love with Bob Seger and music in general. 🎶
It's funny once my grandson was going dressed as some little band member for Halloween & I said, "nobody knows who that is.
You were always the man 🎶🎵 💜
One of the greats one of America s most talented singer songwriters
Bob’s early stuff lays the foundation for have the rock n roll in existence today. He pressed out all boundaries outward. Love the Seger System most.
Awesome!! Thank you for posting!
My very first concert, August 1977, 14 years old(about to begin 9th grade), Pine Knob Music Theater, Clarkston, Michigan(so a “home town” show for Bob)……my introduction to live music. 🙏🎶😎
The death of his Detroit buddy Glenn Frey hit him hard..
Was and is a sweetheart of a guy. Thanks for everything Bob
As a young fan of Bob Seger I didn’t know Bob laughed and carried on like this!!! I bet he’s the greatest friend ever to have!
Glenn Frey was one of his best friends...
Grew up like all else in Bloomfield hills, Mich.Saw the system at Birmingham Palladium in 1969
He has always been pretty down to earth. There are many stories about kind things he has done, as well as how well he treats his fans. Have never heard or read anything negative about him.
Bobs music will be played for ever, because we still Love That Old Time Rock and Roll. Bobs a bad man!
I love his realism! He really made Chevy ownership a popular thing.

@officialbobseger39 It is awesome how bad "Bob Seger" is at speaking English.
What a great piece. Only a Bob Costas can do justice to a
Bob Seger. Great interviewer/interview. Love Bob.
Awesome interview with one of the greats.
So few interviews with Bob. Very cool and one of my biggest music heroes!
Saw Bob twice on his final tour. He did not disappoint.
I missed the last few tours. Bought tickets, got sick. I love Bob so much!
