Took my daughter to a Seger concert here in Denver over a decade ago. Here’s this little 7 year old singing every song except the opener (which was a new cover). The other fans in the nosebleeds of the Pepsi Center asked how could she possibly know all the songs?! I’m from Detroit and Segers Greatest Hits 1 and 2 are permanently in my truck. She’s been listening literally her entire life. Great memories!
I've seen every major act live since 73 including Zeppelin and Bob Marley and Bob Seger remains in my top 5 shows. Been to 6 of his concerts. Love fest. Terrific!!!
My daughter 45 and her son know Seger well. He's been in all my vehicles, house and all mp3 players. I think I have everything he recorded.even the old 45s😊
I wonder how the sequence of events breaks down with Heartache Tonight, where Bob did take a writing credit after he spit out the chorus to that song over the phone when Glenn or one of the other writers called Bob looking for help.

Funny you say that... Because those two songs were so grossly overplayed, my wife and I refused to have them in the queue at our wedding reception... Nothing wrong with either song-- we were just exhausted by "overplay fatigue"
I am 58 years old and have seen Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band close to 20 times. I play his music in good times for celebration and in bad times to regroup. His music is in my soul and the live version of Old Time Rock n Roll will be played as the last song at my funeral!!!
Bob is doing just fine! He made millions for Like A Rock when Chevy used it in a commercial. He bought his 50 foot sailboat from some of the royalties he got.
Bob with the last herd played at my high school dances in 1970 when he had 2 songs making the radio - Heavy Music and Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man. Also Ted Nugent with the Amboy Dukes whose hit was Journey to the Center of the Mind. Others were Frigid Pink and Teagarden and Vanwinkle.
I wrote a satirical article for a now-defunct humor site where Bob is complaining that Chevrolet is late with his check and he's broke, no one will answer his calls and he only has cash because Suzi Quatro dropped off a few garbage bags full of empty Bacardi bottles for him to take to the recycling center. All in good fun, of course.
@@mrbniedererI went to school with Sanger and guitarist of the pink. Saw all Detroit music. MC5 Stooges, Up, Frut, Rationals,, Mitchell Ryder and many more. Detroit/ Ann Arbor was music crazy. Saw Lennon, Yoko, Clapton, Chambers Bros, Allman Bros. , Moody Blues, Elvis here in Ann Arbor.
@@Mosely2007 cool! I saw the Stooges in Ann Arbor also Bonnie Raitt with Sippie Wallace at Hill Auditorium. My first time seeing Bonnie was at the Jazz and Blues festival in the Arb. Sounds like we have had similar musical lives as teenagers and now as adults. Also the Frost with Dick Wagner at the LYI events at the Livonia hockey rink during the summer.

I’m wearing my Bob Seger shirt today and then this pops up on my RUclips. Bob Seger is my all time favorite. I started listening to him when I was a year old and his album was one of my first records that was my very own. I cannot put into words what his music means to me. I was abused as a young child and was fortunate enough to have my grandparents step in and adopt me. But until that happened, it was a couple years of abuse and going back and forth between my mom and grandparents. Bob Seger’s music is what got me through it. No matter what was happening to me, his voice was always singing to me. It still sings to me now that I’m 48. He’ll always have a special place in my heart.
My father was a huge fan, I knew entire albums by heart by the time I was 10. His music always takes me back. [Edit: My dad also had a bit of a drinking problem, I wasn't physically abused but sometimes his pain/demons were a bit scary to me as a child.]
Met him at a marina where he kept a couple boats .. I knew who he was said nice to meet you and talked about boats and boat related stuff ... I treated him as a normal guy & he acted like a normal guy .. trust me I wanted a picture and a autograph.. but everyone wants that and so I didn't .. mixed feelings 25 yrs later about that decision.. but glad i was able to meet him never the less because yrs later he started touring again and got to enjoy his concert as a fan
Best 50th birthday present I ever gave was to take my friend (since grade school days) out for dinner then to see Bob seger in concert. He had the best time! His face lit up when our car pulled in front of the concert hall, he had no idea why we were there. Get out ! we yelled at him, we're going to watch Bob play!" Fun times , good times .
I’m from Muscle Shoals and got to meet him at a greasy spoon all night diner. He was very much the gentleman and friendly as they come. Thanks for mentioning Muscle Shoals We are proud of everything that came out of our little town. ❤
I will have to try that place next time I’m in that area. Visited Muscle Shoals/Tuscombia when we vacationed in Corinth a couple of years ago. I did get to eat at Abe’s Cafe in Corinth, lolz.

The funny thing is he sang "today's music ain't got the same soul" in 1979 when groups like Van Halen and the Cars released their second albums, the Clash released London Calling, U2, the Pretenders, Joe Jackson and Dire Straits had just came out. Tom Petty and Springsteen were on fire. One of the greatest eras of music. The words make much more sense today than they did then.
Remember, with all the music you named was vastly different than the 10-20 years previous years, so those older would have felt the same as you do about today’s music.
@@odb_roc_hound4186 Yep. Being in my 40s, I can now understand where my parents were coming from, calling my grunge and metal, "trash" and "noise". I feet that way about most modern music now. Rather than thinking it trash or noise however, I feel modern music is "soulless" and "empty".

@@odb_roc_hound4186 yes but not quite the same, looking back music was still organic and ground breaking in '79, even a lot of disco had great musicianship and feel. It was made by people in the same room feeding off each others energy. It still had soul. From the 40's to the 90's it was about capturing a performance. Subtle mistakes weren't corrected in favor of using an exciting take. Today pop music is created on a grid on a computer, like it's a spreadsheet. The vocal pitch is corrected. Timing mistakes are moved exactly on the beat. The drums are sampled. The 1st verse is just copied to the 2nd verse. Nuance is lost as is the feeling that comes from deep within the soul. There is no grease, no dirt, no nasty... just homogenized perfection.
Well, at the time we rock and rollers were fighting the dreaded tag team of Disco and New Wave, which were vastly different from what we listened to and enjoyed. It made plenty of sense to us back then too.
This is legend in my hometown of Sheffield AL (muscle shoals area). Jimmy Johnson told me this story personally. He said the kid laid down the track as his momma sat in the car outside, then packed up and left.
Bob Seger was someone back in the day that I thought was ok. Didn't mind his songs when on the radio at all. However, in the last decade, I've GREATLY appreciated how good he and his band were. I went to Muscle Shoals studios a few years ago and I never realized how much he recorded there. I regret not seeing him back in the 80s when I had several chances to.
There are so many artists that I grew into. When I was younger, I wasn't musically mature enough to appreciate assists like Bob Seger, Gordon Lightfoot, and even Jackson Brown; to name just a few. Sure, I may have sang along when they came on the radio, but I really didn't fully appreciate them until I was older.
I'm 62 and there are so many songs from back in the 70's when I was in high school that I didn't appreciate until I was much older. They aged like fine wine.
While he didn’t earn royalties on this song, I suspect he attracted many fans that otherwise wouldn’t have explored his music. In an end around way, I’m sure he profited from the song.
I like that Bob Seger was happy to act as a mentor to up and coming musicians. Perhaps the most famous example, Glenn Frey of Eagles fame, who always took the time to thank Bob in later years whenever he had the chance.
My mom (who was born in 1920) called any joyful frenetic dancing, "cutting a Dido". In my 20's I found an interesting old book from 1930s that was a list of sayings, their meanings, and etymology. It explained where "cutting a Dido" came from, apparently there was a tribe in Africa (I think?) that were known for their very energetic style of dancing, and they were the Didos! I'm gonna have to Google that now, I haven't thought about that phrase in years.☺
I just got back from my morning walk where Bob was my choice of music. Every song brought back a memory and reinforced my admiration of the man and his music. Legend❤
Started listening to Seger with my transitor radeo tied to the handlebars of my bike since 2+2 came out. Good old CKLW radio station There was a song before that but i can't remember the tittle. Left Michigan and I moved to Alabama in 1972. Took all my 45s and albums with me. Few years later a bunch of friends were at my house and someone mentioned this new singer that they loved. When they said Bob Seger and the Bullet Band. I just got up and pulled out all my records and said take your pick. Needless to say no one slept that night and im glad i was living on 60 acres so nobody to call the cops. Never did get to see him in concert though and i regret that to this day. Thank you Bob for all the amazing music you shared with the world.
@pixiegirl33 I wish I could remember the song that came out before 2+2. It's driving me nuts. Oh well old age is catching up with me. It was one of the first 45's that I bought. Cost 50 cent from Korvettes. Looking back it wasn't that big of a store, but we could spend hours in the record department. It was several years until the Southland mall was built. Thought that was heaven to have a whole store within the mail that all kinds of music.
I still have my CKLW two album "gold" set with the Big-8 jocks. Went to hear Bob at the band shell at Belle Isle. He did have the song Rosalie, which either came out the year you moved to Alabama or the following year.
Thank goodness for radio stations that let the DJ's program their music back in the 70's. I remember hearing this on the radio and had to buy the album. This song literally blew up back then. I think it was so popular because we were tired of disco.
"Main Street" is the most haunting song ever that brings me back to memories of my youth. How is that song not the best Bob Seger song ever? The melody and lyrical imagery are unmatched.
Main Street is about Main Street, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ann Arbor is where Bob Seger graduated Pioneer High School in 1963 and matured as a young man. The woman sung about is a bit somewhat older escort / stripper / courtesan(?) that Bob Seger fancied and perhaps pursued. Anyway, that's the skinny that I learned while attending UM 1974-1978 from fellow students of Pioneer High School. 😉
@@jazzandbluesculturalherita2547 My mom attended Ann Arbor High School (yes, later Pioneer) with Bob Seger, and she always loved that "Main Street" was about Ann Abor. She also used to laugh when she heard "Night Moves", claiming that Bob was a bit of a loner and wasn't making moves with the ladies. I always said "How could you know? You didn't hang with his crowd." but it was fun to hear her talk about him. That, and other fun things about the school, like how it was so overcrowded at the time that they actually allowed students to cross the roof and re-enter on the other side so they could make it to their next class before the bell!
One of my online acquaintances since the early 2000s is former Chicago and Silver Bullet guitarist Dawayne Bailey. Dawayne (or DB), one of the most underrated (and over-scrutinized) musicians of the last 44 years, reminisced about being in the Silver Bullet Band in the early 80s. "Old Time Rock and Roll" was one song he detested performing. Outside the Chicago fanbase, most people are unaware of DB's existence. The only commercially-issued Bob Seger track he's on is "Like a Rock", on which DB provided the acoustic guitar.

One of my favourite Seger songs. Everyone talks about it in Risky Business but my memory was in ALF when he was left alone and was grooving to it then caused havoc in the apartment
My wife and I used to dance to “Old Time Rock and Roll “ back when we were first married. I’m still a huge Seger fan. My favourite song is “Turn the Page “.
Bob Seger is an American Icon. I got tickets that someone didn’t pick up from work, and I got to see him back in 2011. I can’t explain what it was like hearing THE sax on Turn The Page live and in person. Still The Same is my all time favorite Bob Seger song!
My best friend died in October, after 40 years of friendship. He DESPISED this song, so when I created a playlist to commemorate him, it had to be on the list! It makes me smile in posthumous prank joy every time I hear it! I've just shared this video on his Facebook page... LOL!

I visited the muscle Shoals studio a couple of time within the last few years . That actual piano that Bob played that intro on , is still there. You can sit at it if you want. I highly recommend going to the studio and taking a tour. So COOL
My friends went to see Bob Segar. They came by to surprise me and take me to the concert. I was in bed with the flu and had a raging fever. I barely remembered them coming by.
My friend Forrest McDonald played the solo on the studio version. Professor, you should look him up because he has all sorts of stories to tell. I can get you in touch with him if you would like.

I can only envy those who got to see Bob Seger live in concert. Have to make do with the albums “Live Bullet” and “Live Tonight”. I didn’t know that the guitar solo on “Old Time Rock And Roll” was played by a teenager. This was a terrific song, and Bob Seger had to have been kicking himself in the ass. The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section core 4 known as "The Swampers" were Barry Beckett(keys), Roger Hawkins(drums), David Hood(bass,trombone) and Jimmy Johnson(guitar) The Swampers recorded, produced, or engineered classic hits by Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Percy Sledge, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Leon Russell, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rod Stewart, Bob Seger and The Staple Singers. Todays song is Iconic for sure.
If you want to see a documentary you will never forget, and will probably watch multiple times, watch ‘Muscle Shoals”….its on YT, it’s beautiful…definitely the best doc I’ve ever seen, but it may also be the best MOTION PICTURE I’ve ever seen too. Just the story of Rick Hall is amazing. RIP to Rick and all the other guys who’ve left us.

I am always grateful when you highlight anything with Bob Seger. I'm surprised you haven't interviewed him. I listened to Bob Kevoian interview him many years ago, he seems to be one of the nicest guys in the business.
Either John or Paul of the Beatles said, once it's out there, it belongs to everyone. They went thru some similar things, missed the boat. But it's all part of the gig. When it to comes to it, it was a gift that certain people got to be in part of. Bob Segar played his part.

So many of Bob's songs have come out of my mouth: this one of course but more often with #1- Main Street, Turn the Page, Against the Wind and the ladies asked me so often to do duets with them and that's the most fun when the shy ones will "try", if I helped them... which brought We've Got Tonight out of us.

My mother lived for Bob! She went to several of his concerts. We listened to Bob in our house from the start. I came of age with his songs and when my mother would overnight host my own children (all her grandchildren actually as well!) they would fall asleep listening to Bob. They all know his songs by heart and still listen to him too and they were all born in the later 80’s and early 90’s! Now they play them for their children. They too will know Bob’s songs. I’m the same age as Tom Cruise and I’ve watched his career over the years as well but Risky Business came along just as I was in college myself and it was a great 80’s iconic movie. Bob Seger is one of favorites. Old Time Rock n Roll was my mom's favorite song especially when it came on the radio while she was driving! And it took me a second to figure out which song the Professor was talking about until he said it was in a movie then I figured out the song before the Professor said which one! I love that scene in Risky Business.
Okay, you don't take a writing credit, but George Jackson gets a lifetime of residuals. That is honesty and nobility. Bob made enough money, believe me.
This song is great but brings back bad memories. Last date was to see this movie. Still listen to the song. Just have to fight back the memory. True testimony to how strong a song can be attached to our memories good or bad.

Thanks for featuring the band, they first blew me away when I saw them live on the 82 World Vengeance tour with Iron Maiden. It was amazing time in music, that I will never forget.
Old Detroiter here…….I remember Bob with the Last Herd back in ‘65-‘66 playing East side Detroit bars and dances. Walled Lake Casino w/ Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels………Detroit was magical then
Professor you really need to do at least a video about the music in Risky Business and one about Tangerine Dream. Old Time Rock an Roll brought a lot of attention to the movie and to Bob Seger. I love the scene using it in Risky Business as it represented being a teenager home alone. It really fit just "rocking out". I had heard Bob Seger on the local radio but with how many times I've watched Risky Business it's one of the songs I really associate with Bob Seger. I have a number of his releases but it's this song that is "his song". Thanks for bringing some attention to Risky Business. It's my favorite movie ang brought me my favorite band, Tangerine Dream. Risky Business came out when I was in high school - all my friends were madly in love with Tom Cruise! I wasn't, but I've always been weird like that. lol Anyway, they were all singing Old Time Rock and Roll at school and since I hadn't seen the movie, I wondered why so many people were singing this old song so much. I had bought the album around 1980, so of course, I knew it, but how did these Madonna-wannabees know it so well? Then it started playing on top 40 radio - a LOT, and I finally found out it was from that movie. I was really happy that Bob Seger was getting so much attention. Oh, I just listened to George Jackson's version and I kind of like it.
One of my best friends in highschool told me about the scene in Risky Business and said you gotta see the movie. She went on and on about the Tom Cruise scene for she had a crush on him! I can relate.

Enjoyed seeing him back in '83 down on the Ms. coast. We had an extra ticket and I still remember the shock on the guys face when we only sold it for what we paid for it. Great show.

I saw Bob Seger when he opened for Kiss back in 1976. His hair was very long then AND he was not against cover songs as he sang Nutbush City Limits in that set. As to your poll question, Turn The Page is definitely up there.
i had to take about a 10 year break from the song.....now it is okay on occasion. I also had an Aunt that contributed to the overplaying specifically for me.
Disco was the rage, many put it down. (like me). (except for Saturday night Fever) Then wham, "Old Time Rock and Roll" hit the scene. Boy was that tune popular. I don't care what you say, out of all the Bob Seger Hits, this one defines his stuff, So, after listening to all "the old records, by ourself" lets all, "Turn the Page", "get out of here and go to Katmandu" It just might be fun. ;-)
The song would not be a hit without Bob's voice or the original sax sound. Some of the best songs have a sax touching our soul. I saw the movie in the theater and cracked up. Actually it touched a lot of 50s, 60s and early 70s people who lost rock and roll to disco and weren't sure if it would be back in the 1980s. It wasn't voted in to the 100 songs for the century for no reason.

I am 58 years old and have seen Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band close to 20 times. I play his music in good times for celebration and in bad times to regroup. His music is in my soul and the live version of Old Time Rock n Roll will be played as the last song at my funeral!!!

Bob with the last herd played at my high school dances in 1970 when he had 2 songs making the radio - Heavy Music and Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man.
Also Ted Nugent with the Amboy Dukes whose hit was Journey to the Center of the Mind. Others were Frigid Pink and Teagarden and Vanwinkle.
I wrote a satirical article for a now-defunct humor site where Bob is complaining that Chevrolet is late with his check and he's broke, no one will answer his calls and he only has cash because Suzi Quatro dropped off a few garbage bags full of empty Bacardi bottles for him to take to the recycling center. All in good fun, of course.

Bob Seger is my all time favorite. I started listening to him when I was a year old and his album was one of my first records that was my very own. I cannot put into words what his music means to me. I was abused as a young child and was fortunate enough to have my grandparents step in and adopt me. But until that happened, it was a couple years of abuse and going back and forth between my mom and grandparents. Bob Seger’s music is what got me through it. No matter what was happening to me, his voice was always singing to me. It still sings to me now that I’m 48. He’ll always have a special place in my heart.
My father was a huge fan, I knew entire albums by heart by the time I was 10.
His music always takes me back.
[Edit: My dad also had a bit of a drinking problem, I wasn't physically abused but sometimes his pain/demons were a bit scary to me as a child.]

Met him at a marina where he kept a couple boats .. I knew who he was said nice to meet you and talked about boats and boat related stuff ... I treated him as a normal guy & he acted like a normal guy .. trust me I wanted a picture and a autograph.. but everyone wants that and so I didn't .. mixed feelings 25 yrs later about that decision.. but glad i was able to meet him never the less because yrs later he started touring again and got to enjoy his concert as a fan
Best 50th birthday present I ever gave was to take my friend (since grade school days) out for dinner then to see Bob seger in concert.
He had the best time! His face lit up when our car pulled in front of the concert hall, he had no idea why we were there.

It was so far ahead of it's time and yes so true today. Everytime I hear it i I think of that and what makes its a great classic rock song.
They ring even more true today than they did back then. Even disco is better than this hip hop schlock.
Bob Segar is a great artist and this song defines Rock and Roll.
The funny thing is he sang "today's music ain't got the same soul" in 1979 when groups like Van Halen and the Cars released their second albums, the Clash released London Calling, U2, the Pretenders, Joe Jackson and Dire Straits had just came out. Tom Petty and Springsteen were on fire. One of the greatest eras of music. The words make much more sense today than they did then.
Remember, with all the music you named was vastly different than the 10-20 years previous years, so those older would have felt the same as you do about today’s music.

@@odb_roc_hound4186 yes but not quite the same, looking back music was still organic and ground breaking in '79, even a lot of disco had great musicianship and feel. It was made by people in the same room feeding off each others energy. It still had soul. From the 40's to the 90's it was about capturing a performance. Subtle mistakes weren't corrected in favor of using an exciting take. Today pop music is created on a grid on a computer, like it's a spreadsheet. The vocal pitch is corrected. Timing mistakes are moved exactly on the beat. The drums are sampled. The 1st verse is just copied to the 2nd verse. Nuance is lost as is the feeling that comes from deep within the soul. There is no grease, no dirt, no nasty... just homogenized perfection.
Well, at the time we rock and rollers were fighting the dreaded tag team of Disco and New Wave, which were vastly different from what we listened to and enjoyed. It made plenty of sense to us back then too.
Thanks for naming the musicians that contributed to these songs. So many great players don't always get the recognition they deserve.
This is legend in my hometown of Sheffield AL (muscle shoals area). Jimmy Johnson told me this story personally. He said the kid laid down the track as his momma sat in the car outside, then packed up and left.
Bob Seger was someone back in the day that I thought was ok. Didn't mind his songs when on the radio at all. However, in the last decade, I've GREATLY appreciated how good he and his band were. I went to Muscle Shoals studios a few years ago and I never realized how much he recorded there. I regret not seeing him back in the 80s when I had several chances to.

There are so many artists that I grew into. When I was younger, I wasn't musically mature enough to appreciate assists like Bob Seger, Gordon Lightfoot, and even Jackson Brown; to name just a few. Sure, I may have sang along when they came on the radio, but I really didn't fully appreciate them until I was older.
I'm 62 and there are so many songs from back in the 70's when I was in high school that I didn't appreciate until I was much older. They aged like fine wine.
While he didn’t earn royalties on this song, I suspect he attracted many fans that otherwise wouldn’t have explored his music. In an end around way, I’m sure he profited from the song.
He earned royalties, just not songwriting royalties.

I like that Bob Seger was happy to act as a mentor to up and coming musicians. Perhaps the most famous example, Glenn Frey of Eagles fame, who always took the time to thank Bob in later years whenever he had the chance.

My mom (who was born in 1920) called any joyful frenetic dancing, "cutting a Dido".
In my 20's I found an interesting old book from 1930s that was a list of sayings, their meanings, and etymology. It explained where "cutting a Dido" came from, apparently there was a tribe in Africa (I think?) that were known for their very energetic style of dancing, and they were the Didos!
I'm gonna have to Google that now, I haven't thought about that phrase in years.☺

There was a song before that but i can't remember the tittle. Left Michigan and I moved to Alabama in 1972. Took all my 45s and albums with me. Few years later a bunch of friends were at my house and someone mentioned this new singer that they loved. When they said Bob Seger and the Bullet Band. I just got up and pulled out all my records and said take your pick. Needless to say no one slept that night and im glad i was living on 60 acres so nobody to call the cops. Never did get to see him in concert though and i regret that to this day. Thank you Bob for all the amazing music you shared with the world.
I listened to CKLW as a kid too as my first "very own" radio was an AM transistor. I can still hear their bumper, C K L W...The motor city.

Cost 50 cent from Korvettes. Looking back it wasn't that big of a store, but we could spend hours in the record department. It was several years until the Southland mall was built. Thought that was heaven to have a whole store within the mail that all kinds of music.
I still have my CKLW two album "gold" set with the Big-8 jocks. Went to hear Bob at the band shell at Belle Isle. He did have the song Rosalie, which either came out the year you moved to Alabama or the following year.

"Main Street" is the most haunting song ever that brings me back to memories of my youth. How is that song not the best Bob Seger song ever? The melody and lyrical imagery are unmatched.
Main Street is about Main Street, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ann Arbor is where Bob Seger graduated Pioneer High School in 1963 and matured as a young man. The woman sung about is a bit somewhat older escort / stripper / courtesan(?) that Bob Seger fancied and perhaps pursued. Anyway, that's the skinny that I learned while attending UM 1974-1978 from fellow students of Pioneer High School. 😉

She also used to laugh when she heard "Night Moves", claiming that Bob was a bit of a loner and wasn't making moves with the ladies. I always said "How could you know? You didn't hang with his crowd." but it was fun to hear her talk about him. That, and other fun things about the school, like how it was so overcrowded at the time that they actually allowed students to cross the roof and re-enter on the other side so they could make it to their next class before the bell!
One of my online acquaintances since the early 2000s is former Chicago and Silver Bullet guitarist Dawayne Bailey. Dawayne (or DB), one of the most underrated (and over-scrutinized) musicians of the last 44 years, reminisced about being in the Silver Bullet Band in the early 80s. "Old Time Rock and Roll" was one song he detested performing.
Outside the Chicago fanbase, most people are unaware of DB's existence. The only commercially-issued Bob Seger track he's on is "Like a Rock", on which DB provided the acoustic guitar.

I visited the muscle Shoals studio a couple of time within the last few years . That actual piano that Bob played that intro on , is still there. You can sit at it if you want. I highly recommend going to the studio and taking a tour. So COOL

If you want to see a documentary you will never forget, and will probably watch multiple times, watch ‘Muscle Shoals”….its on YT, it’s beautiful…definitely the best doc I’ve ever seen, but it may also be the best MOTION PICTURE I’ve ever seen too. Just the story of Rick Hall is amazing.

My mother lived for Bob! She went to several of his concerts. We listened to Bob in our house from the start. I came of age with his songs and when my mother would overnight host my own children (all her grandchildren actually as well!) they would fall asleep listening to Bob. They all know his songs by heart and still listen to him too and they were all born in the later 80’s and early 90’s! Now they play them for their children. They too will know Bob’s songs. I’m the same age as Tom Cruise and I’ve watched his career over the years as well but Risky Business came along just as I was in college myself and it was a great 80’s iconic movie. And yes, Rebecca was gorgeous! Every young man’s fantasy for sure! Thanks again for sharing. You are a truly gifted story teller my friend.

Bob Seger is one of favorites. Old Time Rock n Roll was my mom's favorite song especially when it came on the radio while she was driving! And it took me a second to figure out which song the Professor was talking about until he said it was in a movie then I figured out the song before the Professor said which one! I love that scene in Risky Business.

Old Detroiter here…….I remember Bob with the Last Herd back in ‘65-‘66 playing East side Detroit bars and dances. Walled Lake Casino w/ Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels………Detroit was magical then

Professor you really need to do at least a video about the music in Risky Business and one about Tangerine Dream. Old Time Rock an Roll brought a lot of attention to the movie and to Bob Seger. I love the scene using it in Risky Business as it represented being a teenager home alone. It really fit just "rocking out". I had heard Bob Seger on the local radio but with how many times I've watched Risky Business it's one of the songs I really associate with Bob Seger. I have a number of his releases but it's this song that is "his song".
Thanks for bringing some attention to Risky Business. It's my favorite movie ang brought me my favorite band, Tangerine Dream. They both need more attention. Thanks, great video Professor.
Risky Business came out when I was in high school - all my friends were madly in love with Tom Cruise! I wasn't, but I've always been weird like that. lol Anyway, they were all singing Old Time Rock and Roll at school and since I hadn't seen the movie, I wondered why so many people were singing this old song so much. I had bought the album around 1980, so of course, I knew it, but how did these Madonna-wannabees know it so well? Then it started playing on top 40 radio - a LOT, and I finally found out it was from that movie. I was really happy that Bob Seger was getting so much attention. Oh, I just listened to George Jackson's version and I kind of like it.

One of my best friends in highschool told me about the scene in Risky Business and said you gotta see the movie. She went on and on about the Tom Cruise scene for she had a crush on him! I can relate.
I didn’t see the movie either. Everyone at school was talking about the movie and this scene, but I just wasn’t interested. I’m still not a Tom Cruise fan.

@@johnblossom8447 I'm not either. I do have a lot of respect for him as an actor. He does most of his own stunts, and can actually fly a fighter jet. He's just kind of smarmy.
Enjoyed seeing him back in '83 down on the Ms. coast. We had an extra ticket and I still remember the shock on the guys face when we only sold it for what we paid for it. Great show.

Bob Seger is a true treasure to music. I'm pretty sure rambling man was done in mono, at least that's the way it sounds. I looked all over for a rework of that one, never found it. Lesson to all... ALWAYS TAKE CREDIT.

I danced with my daughter at her two weddings in a special non traditional father-daughter dance. It has always been my favorite R&R song.
I saw Bob Seger when he opened for Kiss back in 1976. His hair was very long then AND he was not against cover songs as he sang Nutbush City Limits in that set.

Overplaying by classic rock stations made me sick of hearing it
i had to take about a 10 year break from the song.....now it is okay on occasion. I also had an Aunt that contributed to the overplaying specifically for me.
This was my favorite song outside of gospel and country when I was growing up.
Disco was the rage, many put it down. (like me). (except for Saturday night Fever) Then wham, "Old Time Rock and Roll" hit the scene. Boy was that tune popular. I don't care what you say, out of all the Bob Seger Hits, this one defines his stuff, So, after listening to all "the old records, by ourself" lets all, "Turn the Page", "get out of here and go to Katmandu" It just might be fun. ;-)

The song would not be a hit without Bob's voice or the original sax sound. Some of the best songs have a sax touching our soul. I saw the movie in the theater and cracked up. Actually it touched a lot of 50s, 60s and early 70s people who lost rock and roll to disco and weren't sure if it would be back in the 1980s. It wasn't voted in to the 100 songs for the century for no reason.

I remember watching The Osmonds TV series, but I liked The Jacksons one better. That was my introduction to George Clinton (The Hairy Godfather).
