Can't believe i forgot Lucifer. Grew up listening to him on a transitor radio tied on to my bike with the antenna sticking out between the handle bars. Moved to rural Alabama and alot of people tried to get me this listen to this new guy. It was Seger singing Night Moves. I started laughing a friend had sent me the album when came out. I put it on my stereo then started pulling out my old 45's and albums. We listen to Seger the rest of the night. Needless to say ever time anyone came to my house that is what they wanted to hear. Will die loving Seger!!!!!!!
What's always tripped me out about Seger's early songs was that he was barely out of his teens when he started making records, but he always sounded so much mature for his age. You'd assume a much older dude was doing these tunes, and then you see this mop-haired young dude tearing these songs up like an old pro. That must have really surprised folks back in the day, lol.!
Off the album titled Mongrel. This record was one of many reasons I have been a life long fan. Bob Seger is what one wishes all rock legends were, a solid person and great player who has delivered for 50 fucking years. I'd bet there's not a phony bone in his body. Thank You Bob!
1975 I was 15 and saw Bob in Boston for 3 yrs in a row, 76,77, they were so tight and experienced ny then, what a show, and not because I was tripping.
Had this song in over 40 years.... I live in the south now, man, I miss the Detroit Rock sene of the late 60's - early 70's. SRC, Amboy Dukes, Seger, Grand Funk, MC 5, et. al. Motor City ROCKS!
Alan Hause that really was a special scene...and if you look at the musical landscape of the time, it was so heavy in comparison. I think it has had more influence over time than the much more widely known SF and LA scenes of that same era. It was raw, gritty and music for the sake of making music. And aside from the MC5, it wasnt steeped in politics like SF nor had an art house/folk vibe of those LA bands...and even the MC5s political overtones were more of a satirical middle fingers up type of thing. It was just gritty rock n roll with absolutely no window dressing.
Used to go and hear the Bob Seger System every chance I could. This was an amazing album to hear live. Met Bob at one of the gigs and he was a genuinely nice person. Glad to finally see a video of Lucifer. Still sounds good.
That was tasty! I had never heard this one before. Like so many others, I discovered Bob Seger with Night Moves. I am enjoying going down the RUclips rabbit hole. Thanks for posting this.
Gotta love Bob! He is one of the very few who was around since 60's and has made it all the way up to the present day without embarrassing himself. Seriously! Never went off following some ridiculous fashion trend and just did his beautiful thing. Not many others could make that claim. I want to say Neil Young because I love Neil, but in truth he did have a few miner moments of what we'll just call lapses in judgement.
I grew up in the 60's North of Detroit listening to Seger. I'm in my 60's now and still listening to it loud!! Difference is I don't have to wait for a DJ to play what I wanna hear lol
LoL, nice to meet you fellow Michigander. I grew up downriver from Detroit. Was an instant fan of Seger and still have him blaring at 68 years old. When I die he is who I want to hear.
I've told people that before Silver Bullet there was Bob Seger System.. they had no idea! I had the "45" of Lucifer... hearing that voice come out of the young Bob Seger is amazing!!!
Love him and his music!!!! He was such a kick ass performer!!!! This has always been my fav song by home. As many of his concerts I've been to I only heard him do it live once at Pine Knob. He always gave his all at his concerts. I lived in Ann Arbor for many years. I bought my bookcase in a store there that has since closed. After I bought the the owner of the store told me Bob Seger had bought the same bookcase there.
I've loved Seger since I first heard Live Bullet in about '76. I've never even heard this song before. Love it! One of the best voices in Rock! thanks for posting!
To this day I see him at a local bar called Bullfrogs in Ortonville, mi ,,,,,Great dude takes pictures and is soo cool with everyone....love detroits own rocken bob seger
Love our hometown boy Bob. I live a mile from the place he lived on Airport and Andersonville. My uncle had beers with him at 300 when he was just starting out, said he was a great guy but thought his band sucked, even thought to himself...they'll never make it. He admits now he was way wrong. Lol.
Grew up in the Detroit suburbs way back when Bob Seger was formed so got to see young Bob and his band a few times for 2 to 3 dollars i call that a bargain.
From "Travelin' Man," the book by Gary Graff and Tom Weschler, Tom explains that he sold the Gibson Firebird guitar to Bob for $75 profit in August, 1969, and it was pristine at the time. Tom was amazed later that Bob painted it, but the paint was inspired by a flag-painted guitar owned by a member of the MC5.
Damn do I wish I grew up in the 60's and 70's. I was born in the wrong era... ahhh whatever I was born in '95 but I feel as if my generation is keeping some of the 60's and 70's music and ways alive. Trust me, it's not dead.
Something Aussies can always relate to is Detroit/Michigan Rock n Roll ... there is a shared taste and sentiment between the two places which is can vouch for.
Damn. I have loved this song for decades and this is the first time I ever saw the lyrics. What a brilliant song and delivery. No wonder he made it big. BTW--- inside reference-- thanks WABX for playing!!!! All time favorite Bob Seger song. I saw Bob in the grocery store and I was too intimidated to go pay homage in person. Damn again.
No nonsense sound. Bob, like John Kaye, sounds and moves right behind a mic. Steppenwolf and The Bob Seger System hails from the era when "Pop" became "Hard Rock." Stay frosty.
I was starting Grade Twelve when this gem hit,and if I heard it today, even on 580 AM here in Windsor before July 6,my 65th birthday,I'd have the big one and not get my Canada Pension. Boppin' Bobby strikes again!!!!!
My band "East River Drive" opened for Bob in 1967 in Jackson Mich. Saw him in Toledo at the Hunington Center in Febuary. What memories that brought back.
Bob Seger has such a powerful voice it's got that rock/soul sound to it. I like hearing Bob's early stuff it just has rocking has his later stuff with the Silver Bullet Band
YES , in 1993 Capitol released Seger's back catalog. I bought a few of the reissues available thinking I had time to buy the rest. It was less than 2 months they were gone. SO in answer to if I dubbed the music YES In stereo from a CAPITOL REISSUE OF MONGREL. In fact the fade is enhanced to extend the song.
Nice! Do you have any of his older stuff? I'll check your profile. Some songs from the Ramblin Gamblin man album is what I think I'm looking for or maybe even older. Thanks.
+Blaire Ronzel While I was picking through them at Meijers (Michigan Chain) I did see Brand New Morning. However, Not Noah. Knowing that Brand New Morning was like Bruce's Nebraska, I passed, for Rambling Gambling Man, Seger Seven and Mongrel, Hoping to come back later for the rest. However, my opportunity passed very quickly, as they were "recalled" within a month. Maybe within Weeks. I got what I wanted. Smoking OP's and BAck in 72 were on a WB subsidiary Palladium. So I did not expect to see them.
Always LOVED Bob Seger and still do, saw him a # of times, 1st was at at a place called "The Crows Nest" when I was 16 and the band I believe was called Bob Seger and the Last Herd. I am 65 now. He was from Ann Arbor originally I believe.
The television show that Bob Seger is on was called "The Upbeat Show" on WEWS, Channel 5, in Cleveland. It was hosted by Don Webster, who is now retired from the station. The date of filming is not known, but probably could be researched in the studio archives.
I remember how crazy for him I was then. His talent, and his baby face. I had a baby face too at that time. So he never struck me that way. To me he was just Great and still is. I used to wish I could just meet him, and talk to him. Like he was a person, oh yeah, he was a person! I never did meet him, but I always was a number 1 fan.
I'm really embarassed to say that I did not know Bob Seger was the embodiment of garage rock in the 60s...this stuff I'm finding on youtube ranks up there with the best of the music in a era that set the blueprint for rock....anyone know if there are CDs with this old stuff?
Love seeing these early, early recordings. Nobody like Bob Seger. I like the Bob Seger System as much as I like Bob Seger & Silver Bullet Band (and that is saying a lot)! : )
Back in the early 80s I would run into Bob stopping at the Lemon Peel. It was a great place to stop for a drink on Woodward Avenue. He was just socializing. He would talk to anybody.

That right there is one of his very finest songs... ever! This is the kind of music we grew up with in southern Michigan in the 60's
epic
So blessed to have grown up to listen, see and still listening to the best of Rock & Roll.
Can't believe i forgot Lucifer. Grew up listening to him on a transitor radio tied on to my bike with the antenna sticking out between the handle bars. The legs on this song are unreal. It flat out rocks by any year's standards.
Well said! I totally agree. A born pro with pure soul.

@@harolddavis9677 Yep. Just a teenage kid... but he always sounded prefect live! Unlike nearly every other band..
Kirk Wood He set a whole new Precedent in music. A legend in his own time!
Was thinking the same thing. He looks like a kid and sounds like a 35 yr old soul/r&b singer.
Don Webster and UPBEAT! , recorded in Cleveland and picked up in over 100 markets, always had top notch talent
1975 I was 15 and saw Bob in Boston for 3 yrs in a row, 76,77, they were so tight and experienced ny then, what a show, and not because I was tripping.
Para mi el mejor de su tiempo, todavía conservo su LP Mongrel", soy cubano y vivo en Cuba, mis saludos para ese gran artista.
wow! Bob seger had a vocal energy from deep down, it was so intense that it doesn't even look like it fit his age at that time.
I said the same thing right now! Just sent this to a friend with the same message!
His early Real Rock & Roll stuff......before he sold out

Michigan Rock at its best. And I am glad I was there at the time
Had this song in over 40 years.... I live in the south now, man, I miss the Detroit Rock sene of the late 60's - early 70's. SRC, Amboy Dukes, Seger, Grand Funk, MC 5, et. al. Motor City ROCKS!

Never really cared for Amboy Dukes but a couple of songs because did not care for Ted Nugent.
This is one heavy-boogyin' tune. Seger should've been bigger sooner. Definitely killin' it here.
Used to go and hear the Bob Seger System every chance I could. This was an amazing album to hear live. Met Bob at one of the gigs and he was a genuinely nice person. Glad to finally see a video of Lucifer. Still sounds good.

Yeah, Great Britain has Paul Mc Cartney , America has Bob Seger, Both are naturally cool, no gimmicks, or Bull Sh t !

March 16, 1970 this song was "hitbound" on CKLW, the Big 8----50,000 watts booming out of the Motor City.
Booming out of Windsor that is:))
CKLW Windsor Canada.
Old BSS is one of Detroit's many underrepresented gems. High time the rest of the world was reminded.
I've loved Seger since I first heard Live Bullet in about '76. I've never even heard this song before. Love it! One of the best voices in Rock! thanks for posting!

First song I ever heard from Bobby Seger, and still my favourite. Awesome video. Thanks. Forgot about that show which fortunately was shown in Canada.

I noticed that too.
